Arlen Ness Naked Stage 1 Big Sucker Air Filter For Harley Touring

Arlen Ness, the "King of Choppers", knows a thing or two about performance. The Big Sucker is the best-selling and most powerful air cleaner kit on the market - period. Simply, the Big Sucker is designed to give your engine maximum airflow for maximum performance. Testing shows that by simply installing a Big Sucker kit, horsepower gains of up to 21% are attainable.

The air filter elements are made one at a time using the finest materials available. The red hue filters are all pre-oiled, and feature four layers of surgical-grade cotton to promote airflow and filter air effectively. The filters are hand-poured one at a time in a urethane body, unlike many other filters that are spun, which can leave a residue on the filtration media.

The Big Sucker air filter kit features a one-piece aluminum backing plate and eliminates the need for banjo fittings, hoses and a filter. The breather exits at the mouth of the throttle body, creating a virtually closed-loop system.

Features:

  • Accepts stock air cleaner cover
  • Available with black, chrome or natural finish backing plate

Note: Filter uses your OEM cover and does not include one.

Great $/Power gain I consider myself a 2-3 beard kinda guy. Installing the Big Sucker on my 2014 Ultra Limited was a piece of cake. Just make sure you have a star drive set and some grease. I give the instructions a 4/5 stars because they lack clarity. You also can't torque the 3 allen keyed treaded bolts into the carburetor because there isn't a stop in the carb body thread housing, it just keeps going. You have to thread them so that there is enough bolt protruding from the carb housing so that the new cleaner housing can be mounted. I also purchased the Vance & Hines FuelPak3. Installed it, installed the app on my iphone6+, configured the bluetooth, configured the mods (CFM slip ons, stock header, big sucker), downloaded the map and flashed the bike in less than 15 minutes. Works just like it is supposed to. An amazing difference in power and the motor runs noticeably much cooler. Be prepared for your Big Sucker to make sucking noise when you give it throttle. Proof that the stock air cleaner was choking the bike. Getting my Vance & Hines power dual header this week. Can't wait. April 13, 2015
Great quality. Great quality. Great fit. Performed well. Very pleased with performance. August 25, 2014

Robert L: The biggest difference between the Harley Stage 1 filter and the Arlen Ness Big Sucker is the grade of the filter material. The Harley Stage 1 in NOT a K&N filter. Yes you can clean the Harley filter but you will end up replacing it with a K&N. Yes the Big Sucker will provide much better flow, as there is more surface area and the backing plate is gone. A shopper asked: Does this installation require removal of the plastic backing plate on a 2014 HD FLHX? Also with the Big Sucker; if the backing plate is removed is the look similar to other BS installations in that one can see the filter element. I had a BS on my 2009 Road King and use the OEM filter cover however could readily see the filter. Jan 3, 2015

Richard D: Yes. Per the instructions for my 2014 ultra limited, which looks to be the same as yours, the back plate comes off an I am using the stock cover. I can not easily see my filter but if I could, the amount of airflow is worth it over stock. What else you putting on yours? fuel mgmt, exhaust?? Jan 6, 2015
Reply to Richard Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Matthew B: Yes, the backing is removed. I don't feel that you can see the element once the OEM cover is re-installed. You can put your finger down in and hook around the cover and feel it, but it does not stand out visually. Jan 6, 2015

Jeremiah M: Yes you do remove the stock backing plate. As for seeing the air filter you can, but you have to make an actual effort to try and see it. I was wanting mine to look like factory and it does. Jan 6, 2015
