Arai Defiant Chronos Helmet

Detailed, precision clock like inner workings hide beneath the surface of this new design. The Chronus graphic looks sharp from a distance and offers surprising detail up close for those who own magnifying glasses.

Designed specifically for the aesthetics and needs of street fighter and naked bike rider in mind, the Arai Defiant Chronus is equally aggressive and feature rich, as one would expect from a new Arai helmet. Based on the fit and comfort of the Quantum, the Defiant was built for the upright riding position with its aggressive, integrated chin spoiler, which was designed specifically to guide wind around the neck and to improve the aerodynamic properties of the helmet. The Hyper Ridge Bumper circles the bottom of the shell both adding additional strength and also lowering the helmet's center of gravity, while flaring the helmet opening slightly to increase the ease of putting on, and taking off.

The Arai Defiant utilizes Arai's latest faceshield design, the SAI Max Vision Pinlock Shield with Brow Vents and includes Pinlock insert lens. The SAI Max Vision shield has been widened by 5mm left and right and offers one of the widest eyeports available for excellent peripheral vision.

Features:

  • Aggressive new styling
  • Internals are redesigned with a focus on safety and comfort
  • Organic shell shape for superb energy management
  • New IC-4 Upper Intake vents seal more completely when closed

  • New shell shape is easier to put on and take off

Great Airflow and Graphics
Fits snug but still has excellent airflow. Sound levels are very good. Typical Arai quality. The pictures on the website do not do justice to the graphics or colors. . The graphics really are incredibly detailed. Cost is definitely on the high side but it is worth it in my opinion.
I was talking to an Arai rep at a local shop and he made a profound statement that has stuck with me. He said an Arai helmet is one of the few things in the world that no matter how much money you have, you can not buy a better one.

Amazing!
This helmet is amazing. I went with the green one to match the color of my bike. Looks great! Its weight is good, the airflow is really great! Comes with the anti-fog screen on the side that you can stick on to your visor. You get the DVD for the helmet that explains everything. Only thing I can say about this helmet is that the noise level is a little bit high. Its manageable, but as any helmet on the highway, you will hear the wind.

Streetfighter style with the Arai standard for comfort.
I have a Defiant in the chronus Green graphic. First things first, I love this helmet. It is the best fitting helmet I have ever owned. However the fit took me a few try ons to figure out, because it runs a full size to big. I can fit into a medium comfortably, whereas I have a Large Arai Corsair V that fits just as snug. I am a large in most helmets, including HJCs and Shoei's. Fit wise, I find it to be neutral, a lot like a shoei qwest in fact. Rounder than a rf 1200, but not quite as round as my corsair v or my HJC's. I think the sizing difference has a lot to do with noise levels, since I found the defiant to be very quiet, contrary to other reviews. In fact its much quiter than the Corsair V, and my HJC IS-MAX BT. Its slightly louder than my father's Shoei RF-1200, due to the shield pod turbulence, but just barely.

Arai designed the defiant specifically for standard and naked bikes, and you can absolutely tell. It flows air SO well in an upright position or in a 3/4 tuck. I wouldnt doubt that its one of the best flowing helmets on the market right now. My corsair V can only move this much air when in full tuck, and still its not quite the same. The shoei rf 1200 isnt even in the same ballpark, my head gets hot immediately in temperatures above 75 degrees. The arai probably wont be very warm in the early spring or late fall though.

As for the aerodynamics of the defiant, their superb. I dont notice too much or a difference with the chin spolier, compared to the Corsair V, but the fact that it has the same lack of buffeting as the Corsair is Impressive. The rf -1200 is also very aerodynamic, on par with my Arai's.

My only gripe is with the face shield. Im not a fan of Arai's side pod design, but understand why its there and how it works. Its not hard to install the shields once you get the hang of it, but theres so much friction that it seems like its getting unnecessary wear n tear. The Shoei RF 1200 has a much better design for the shields. Both the ease of removal and overall thickness of the shield itself are in a league of their own.

Overall the Defiant is a great helmet, I would buy it again over another Corsair V. Simply because it works better with my naked bike, therefore has more bang for the buck. Once you pull an Arai out of the box, or off the shelf, you understand why they cost more and that you are getting what you pay for. What's your head worth.

Very noisy. The vents whistle badly when the face shield is open.
The Defiant fit is perfect for me. The shape is very comfortable without any pinch points or hotspots. This is my second Arai helmet and the quality has always been the best. The one thing that I don't like is how noisy the helmet is. It will whistle very loudly if the face shield is not completely closed.

ARAI does it again
I purchased this ARAI Defiant Chronus Helmet b/c I always wanted to try one, mainly b/c I've been a Shoei fan all my life, I'm 54 so I've got over 35 years of riding under my belt both on and off road. So to the helmet, it fits like it was made just for me, seriously, it fits me that good. Its high quality, comfortable and the Red & Black graphics look awesome. I've only had it on 3 rides living here in MD, waiting on warmer weather for the true test, long rides etc... I do recommend this Helmet and now I have the best of both worlds for my 2014 R1, 2006 GSXR 750 and 2006 GSXR 600, not to mention the 2015 Road Glide. Ride to Live and Live to Ride !

Anyone switch to the Arai Defiant or Pro-Cruise from an XD-4? Bike is a KTM 1190 Adventure. Thanks.
