Does the job Pros: - Airflow. - Price point. Cons: - Cuffs are a little small. Had trouble fitting gauntlet-length gloves underneath. - Hard to clean. Bugs and dirt stick in the mesh. - Windproof liner feels cheap, doesn't do much. - Rough collar lip. Irritated me after constant shoulder checks. - Inner mesh pockets move/shift. November 25, 2014
Reasonable summer jacket The jacket has a good semi-slim cut, and it fits within the size chart guidelines. The Bio Armor pieces stay in place fairly well, though the elbow pads have a tendency to easily move around unless your arms really fill out the jacket or you're wearing a heavier layer underneath (somewhat defeating the point of it being summer weight) as there's no way to cinch them into place. The optional Bio Armor (and I imagine the new Nucleon) back protection fits the protection pocket very well and provides some nice additional peace of mind without any real bulk. The styling and branding are solid and the high visibility yellow really pops in bad lighting conditions. However, the reflective patches on the upper arms/chest and upper arms/back don't seem to actually reflect much of anything (tested with a camera flash as well as asking fellow riders after night rides) and are pretty useless. So if visibility is a concern the high-visibility version is ok but you're better off looking elsewhere. If you end up in a position where you have to ride with this in some light rain it'll hold up pretty well except that the rain-liner vest doesn't come down the full length of the jacket and you'll quickly find your mid-section wet while the rest of you is still dry. On my particular jacket the vest liner's rain gutter isn't actually stitched properly and doesn't function very well so there may be some quality control issues. To be fair you really shouldn't ride with this in the rain but it is nice to have the option if an unexpected summer shower comes through. I've put in about three months of riding with it and a few thousand miles and it's still holding up well. The non-mesh textile panels when fully zippered along with the wind/rain liner vest can help push this jacket into early fall if you've got some solid base layers but it's not something I'd suggest. With the liner out and the sleeve vents open this jacket flows a ton of air and it's excellent for really hot and humid summer days. October 18, 2014
Great Jacket Great fit. Looks and feels amazing. airflow is good. Zipper pockets are a little further back than i would like. But overall a nice jacket. October 6, 2014
Amazing Great Jacket. Keeps me protected and cool in this humid South Florida weather. September 18, 2014
Great Jacket Comfortable jacket with plenty of breathability to it and very slimming. September 1, 2014
Has great airflow for those hot days and great protection if you fall. Not a single problem. I've already fallen off my bike in the jacket and it doesn't even have a scratch. August 25, 2014
Great Jacket for the money, awesome air flow This is my first jacket and I don't really have anything else to compare it to. I have been wearing it for 3 months and I must say that the air flow it is awesome in the Puerto Rico hot weather. Elbow pads do sit a little to low. I do get lots of compliments from my peers and pics look awesome. Do feel a pretty protected but I guess that more protection would require a bit more money. In general, I am very please with the purchase and will be posting back after 1 year of riding August 21, 2014
After 1 year of commuting with this jacket The stitching is coming apart and my back and chest pads keep falling out. I feel very unsafe wearing this jacket. If you care about fashion only and not protection then by all means, get this jacket. I always get complements on how I look when I wear it. I also know that I would feel a lot safer wearing something else. I'm very disappointing in the quality of this jacket after only 1 year. August 20, 2014

Mehmet D asked: Is there a way to place bio armor CHEST pads in these jacket? Any modifications? May 22, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
Jonathon W: Yes, the jacket is compatible with the bio armor chest pads. There is a zipper on the inside bottom of the jacket (its hidden behind the zipper for the connection to pants). Open the zipper, dig around to the chest compartment, and you can un-velcro the chest armor enclosures. Take out the foam stuff and put the bio armor in. May 22, 2014

Mehmet D: Thanks Jonathan, very very much. May 22, 2014
Ryan K: yes there is. You can up grade the back and chest. I do believe you can get into elbow as well. I did the chest and the back for my jacket and i feel much safer. May 23, 2014

Bradford S: No, the liner is only a vest. Mar 18, 2014

Sebastian G: Thank you Brad, and I have another question that maybe you can help me. The sleeves are in mesh or textile? basically I need to know if it are warmer early in the morning.
Thanks again! Mar 19, 2014
Bradford S: Sebastian, the sleeves are solid textile, there is a zipper that you can open starting at the wrist back about 9 or 10 inches if you want venting in the sleeves. I find the jacket is a bit warm in hot weather and have no problems keeping warm at 65 with the sleeves zipped shut. There is no venting in the arm pits so that makes the jacket warmer in cooler weather. By the way I am riding a TL1000S if your riding a Hypermotard you may catch more air than me. 4 what its worth... good luck, I really like the jacket but upgrade the back protector. Mar 19, 2014
A shopper asked: My Chest size matches the medium size but my hight matches an XL (I'm 6'1"). I prefer a tighter fit jacket. Would the medium work for me or would I just look ridiculous? Aug 16, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Brian D: I am about the same height and on the border between a large and XL. I tried the large and the XL. I like a little more of a relaxed fit in the arms. I felt for me the large was just a tad short on the arms when in riding position, so I went with the XL. 6'1"ish and 187 lbs. 44" chest, arms length about 25". With your height I would go with the Large if you like a tighter fit. I think the MED would be like a tall guy in a little coat. RevZilla does have no restocking fees so if you didn't like the fit you can always return for a different size. That is what I did. By the way. The jacket is awesome! Great airflow and very comfortable. Cool weather make sure to wear the lining and a extra layer with long sleeves. The jacket is ment to keep the air flowing. Hope this helps. Ride safe! Aug 16, 2013

KEVIN K: I have a 39.5 inch chest, or 100 cm chest, using the Large Viper Air Jacket with the Bionic Chest Guards and the Bionic Air Back Protector I get about a quarter to about a half inch of spare room in the chest area. The main chest zip looks weak in my opinion, so if you plan on putting stuff in the jacket may be tight or may break the zip. Aug 16, 2013
Reply to KEVIN Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Lewis J: I matched the chest size and found the jacket a touch too tight so I went up one (medium to large). As for length, you'll be fine in the sleeves but the jacket is meant to be short fitting at the waist. A medium may be a bit too short though. I'd recommend splitting the difference and getting a large. Aug 17, 2013
Reply to Lewis Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Nadir T: You would look ridiculous. I'm 6'2", got the XL with no regrets. The length is right and the chest fits pretty well even though my chest is an L sized chest. Some of my T-shirts are still longer than the jacket but most aren't. Get the XL. You'll look like you're wearing a belly shirt in an M. Aug 16, 2013
Reply to Nadir Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Jessie R: I'm 5'10 and have a 42inch chest. I got a Large and the fit is pretty good. The jacket itself is some what short in length. I have a pudgy belly so also take that into consideration. But based on what I have and use, I would recommend getting one that will fit your chest. Aug 16, 2013

Eric E: I'm 6' 2" but slick at 155 lbs and like a tighter jacket too but my past A stars medium was feeling tight. I went for a large this time and glad I did. I can adjust the straps on side for better fit and at worst you can exchange for free Aug 16, 2013
Reply to Eric Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Irina B: Get the medium if you can. I'm 6'0 165lb and got the large, and it's a bit on the loose side. The sleeves are plenty long , so I would recommend you try medium first, if anything revzilla will switch for a large at no cost. Aug 17, 2013
Reply to Irina Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
robert s: I think you would find a medium to short and too restrictive. I am 6ft 2 and 200 lbs / 36 inch waist . the XL fits snug and the length is perfect. I only have a 32inch inseam so my back is long. hope that helps ! Aug 16, 2013

David C. H: I took a chance and ordered the 'small' even tho I might sometimes wear a 'medium'. I'm glad I did. It fits a bit snug, but is just super with a t-shirt underneath. Love it. Hope this helps. Aug 16, 2013

Michael P: I am 6' 4" and 190 lbs, usually wear a large, but in this jacket to get the length I need in the arms, I ordered the XL. Snug (but comfortable) fit through the chest and sleeves fit fine. Aug 17, 2013
Reply to Michael Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Jeremy B: The sleeves will probably be long enough either way. It may be a little short in the waist. I would go by chest measurement if I were you. If you don't like it you can always exchange it Aug 16, 2013
Reply to Jeremy Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Adam C: I'd split the difference and get a large. I'm 5'9" wearing the medium and it fits me perfectly both in terms of length and width. At 6'1" I think you'd look a bit goofy in a medium. Aug 16, 2013
Reply to Adam Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Lisandro Angel O: I have the medium size I'm 5''11" and 175lbs. The jacket justs fits I feel if I was a bit taller the jacket may expose more on the back side when I'm hunched over on a sport bike. Aug 16, 2013
Allen L: I'm an XXL waist and chest. I'm 5'10" with a large build and wide shoulders. This jacket is made to fit tight, It forms to my size and is very comfortable. I rode for 4 hours straight and didn't have a single problem. I would get the jacket for a snug fit. Aug 16, 2013

A shopper asked: Hi, I'm 5 ft 6 in weighing 167lbs, chest 40 in, waist 39, hip 43. Which size will fit me best? pls help Mar 18, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Christian L: Im 5'10", 150 lbs, chest 39 in, waist 31 in, with fairly broad shoulders relative to the rest of my torso, and a Medium fits me perfect with the waist adjustment straps tightened down pretty far. There is plenty of waist adjustment on this jacket, and I would say the main limiting factor is in the shoulder/chest area, so I would choose a size based on your chest measurement. Mar 18, 2014
Reply to Christian Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Mazlan H: I basically ordered one size larger than my measurements as suggested by Eddyelbows and it fits great! Air flow could improve with more rev but overall a snug fit. It does bulk up with the extra chest and back armour pads. The velcro on the wrist is not too good. Catches my gloves and pulls them out! Mar 19, 2014
Reply to Mazlan Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Bradford S: If you normally wear a medium you are gonna want a large. I am an XL and I had to send it back for an exchange to XXL, and its not large enough to wear a sweatshirt under it even at that. Its gonna be warmer than you may think in the summer months but no where near as warm as leather. Mar 18, 2014

Bradford S: ps... I have the Bio Armor back protector and it makes a little difference in the snugness. Mar 19, 2014
William L B: Hello,
I would say go with the XL for your dimensions given. And you should still have descent room to with out the padding upgrading to CE back & chest (must haves). XL should be spot on not tight. XXL should be a loose fit, on the baggy side.

Kenneth A asked: Is this good for cool weather like here in Orlando, FL? During fall and winter here we get around 40F (the lowest). Oct 28, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Brian D: with the rain liner and a sweatshirt it is perfect for riding in the 40's. I live in the Midwest and during the fall we have a lot of 40 degree riding days. Jacket works great but you do need something underneath. It is a summer jacket and has a lot of airflow. I have had the jacket for 2 years. Works great. Oct 29, 2014
Reply to Brian Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Ashlin H: It does come with a windproof liner. I wear mine through when it's around 40F but with a sweatshirt underneath. I doubt you'd stay warm without an auxiliary layer underneath. The mesh breathes incredibly well, so even with the liner in, the liner will get cold. Oct 29, 2014
Reply to Ashlin Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Eric E: It's pretty ventilated all through the chest area and flows some good air. I wear this as my summer jacket. I'd be too cool in it if you are talking 40 degree weather plus moving at speed at the bike. Oct 29, 2014

Phillip T: I would say that before ordering my jacket this last time, I went ot a local shop and tried on the same jacket. I later found out that some local shops will match the price of Revzilla, but not on all items. Revzilla offers cash incentives on purchases the dealers won't offer though. Visit a local dealer and try on the same jacket or something similar by the same maker. I believe you would want a Medium, but try one on first. The return policy with Revzilla is great as I have had to return some items in exchange for another size, because I didn't try it on first. May 30, 2014

Saroyan C: You should get small. I got a small at 5ft 8inch 38 chest 30 waist and it is almost perfect, a little on the smaller side. Should probably fit you perfectly. May 29, 2014

A shopper asked: I am planning on purchasing this product as well as the bio armor back protector and i need to know what size i need if i am a size XXL? Feb 23, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Colt T: Yeah, if you're a size XXL in most things, you'd probably want a XXXL in this. I ordered an XL at first because that's what I wear in almost all US clothing. It was very tight and short, and for reference I'm 6'4, 250lbs with an athletic build. I returned the XL for a XXL, and now I'm going to probably order a 3XL too before deciding whether to keep the XXL or 3XL. I didn't notice much difference at all from the XL to XXL, and I'm hoping the 3XL at least gets an inch or 2 longer. There's no way to connect the jacket to any pants if all of the jackets regardless of size only come down to about 4" above where the good lord split me. Apr 24, 2014

Kevin H: I bought this jacket and the Bionic Air Back protector this summer. I ordered both in Medium, and it fit great. I watched the long video on here where Anthony talks about all of the Alpinestars armor, and I believe that you would order a Large. Honestly, I would spring for the Bionic Air Back instead of the Bio armor. The Bio armor isn't that much of an upgrade over what comes in the jacket. Other than that, it's a great jacket, I've worn it year round and been comfortable. Never switched to my leather jacket for winter riding. A little warm in the summer, but pretty much everything is. Jeremy B: I purchased the 2XL and the fit is snug and definitely for a well built person. If you have round mid section vs the v-shape I would buy a larger size. I'm v-shape so the 2nd works for me. Feb 23, 2014

Lewis J: I've washed it in the machine on wool or delicate setting with no issues. I remove the armor pieces first and use a toothbrush to scrub some stain remover into the white areas if they're particularly dirty. Take it out right when the cycle finishes and hang dry. Aug 16, 2014

A shopper asked: is this jacket rainproof ? Aug 7, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Louis-Daniel B: It is not. Comes with an inner waterproof vest (that does not cover your arms). Tried it once and got soaked. Great ventilation and looks. Armor feels light as well (compared to my other jackets). Would I still buy again? Sure. It's a good cpmpromise away from heavier and hotter jackets. Plus I intend on getting additional armored pieces Aug 7, 2014
Scott C: Not rainproof but somewhat resistant. Jacket has thousands of microperferations for ventilation. You can almost see some light coming through the jacket. Extremely light weight and fits like an Italian tapered jacket. Aug 7, 2014

Alan M asked: I have another Astars jacket that's size 56/46 and it fits me snug but comfortably. The sizing chart suggests I'm on the border between XL and XXL. On one hand I am tempted to go the size up to provide room for armor and better airflow; on another hand I'm tempted to stick with XL since I'm losing weight and I do like the snug fit. Any thoughts from those of you who own it? May 9, 2014

Gabriel J: I had medium size. I remove all the armor to had better airflow. I am in Puerto Rico temp. Is 80F average. Sometimes 95f. All Italian clothing and jacket fit small or more slim to the body. My jacket is the best. May 13, 2014

Jeremy B: You should definitely buy the larger size. I have about a 48-50 inch chest and the XXL is really snug May 9, 2014

A shopper asked: Is the cut of this jacket the same as the Alpinestars T-GP R Textile or the Alpinestars T-GP Plus Air? I have the T-GP Plus Air in S and I don't like the cut as it's too short from the front. On the other hand, I tried out the T-GP R Textile (unfortunately it's discontinued) in S and it's a perfect cut for me. Please advise. Thanks. Jan 9, 2014

Kevin H: Well, I couldn't tell you how it fit's compared to the other jackets that you mentioned, but I can tell you how it fits me. I'm 5'8", right around 160, and in fairly decent shape. I have a medium, and it fit's pretty good. Right now, I'm wearing a full uniform underneath and it still fits fine, in addition to having put the Bionic back and chest protectors inside it. I did break my arm a few months ago and wear a brace on it now, so that sleeve is slightly snug but still comfortable. Length wise it's spot on, shoulders is good, and the sleeves are the right length. Without knowing how tall you are, how much you weigh, etc. I can't really tell you how a small would fit you, but I'd say go ahead and order it. Ships for free, exchange for free. Jan 16, 2014

Gabriel J: I am 5"6" 160lbs riding a ducati monster S2R. I use the jacket every day ride to work. fit me very well, This jacket is a Italian stylish design is s short, The textile good is like ballistic like Tumi bags but stronger. Ventilation not good for Caribbean using all the protection pads, If you remove the protection pads the air flow much better, I like a lot very comfortable with and with out the pads. The reflective on the design area not that kind of reflective., My jacket is black and reflective yellow. I hope this help you Jan 17, 2014

David C. H: I don't know about the cut of the other jackets mentioned, and I don't intend to sound like Goldielocks, but I think this jacket is neither too short nor too long, it's just right. I love my jacket. Jan 16, 2014

Sydney H asked: I am 6' tall and 175 lbs with a 40-42" chest. I usually buy a large in jackets but have noticed recently that the elbow and forearm armor in astars jackets have been sagging a lot on me. considering the fact that i am pretty sure that is not supposed to happen, I am wondering what effect it has on safety. should i be worried about it? Should I try a medium, even if my measurements suggest it will be way to small? Or should I go with the large and just deal with the sag? Is there anyway to control it or reduce the sagging?

thanks

Bharat J: I'm a pretty skinny guy, so my forearms aren't that big but I've found the forearm area to be the tightest area of the jacket. I do workout, so my forearms aren't wimpy, but they aren't monstrous by any means.

Im not sure how yours would be saggy. If they truly are saggy, then the jacket's elbow pads would possibly shift around during a fall. That wouldnt be ideal, but wouldnt entirely compromise all safety. Its a lighter jacket so the overall protection isnt really great to begin with, but its doable for low speeds I'd say

Problem with sizing down is that your arms might fit right, but your chest might get squeezed in a bunch and might not fit at all. To be honest from how my jacket is, hearing about saggy forearms on this jacket would make me thing something was wrong with the manufacturing.

So if the jacket looks botched, you should exchange it. Otherwise I guess try to beef up your forearms a bit haha

Christian L: Im 150lbs, 5'9" with a 39" chest and the Medium fits me pretty spot on with just a little extra in the arm length & chest width, and with the waist straps tightened down pretty far (shoulders are snug). I added the A* bionic chest/back protectors, which tightened up the torso area some. Ive tried on quite a few A* jackets in size Large (Euro 52) and they fit noticably bigger in the arm width than the size Medium (Euro 50). I think a Medium would fit you good as long as its not too short in the torso or arm length. May 29, 2014

George C asked: I have the Megaton Drystar jacket in XXL and with both liners still in, the jacket is perfect, nice and snug. With the first 50+ degree day yesterday, boy was I hot! Took both liners out and it felt "baggy". Based on this, should I get an XL for the Viper? Or did Alpinestars intend the Drystar to mainly be used with the liners? I want the Viper to be snug as I intend to do a lot of highway riding this summer. Thanks. Mar 12, 2014

Bradford S: I have no comment about the Megaton Drystar. The liner in or out will make no difference in size in the Viper Air. Alpinestars run small in size so if you are an XL (like me) 5'11" 218 38" waist, buy the XXL. I also bought the Bio Armor back protector and I have no extra room. The sleeves are a tad long but not a bother. Mar 18, 2014

peter L: the liner for the Viper air jacket is just a paper thin vest so what eversize you are get it in that size because the vest like i said is paper thin..its more like a summer slash warm spring/fall jacket...hope that helps George... Mar 12, 2014

Mohammad A: I find the liner in the viper air to be extremely thin and almost negligible. I do not think it will make a difference to sizing regardless of it being in or out. I stuck with the chest size guide and was happy with fit. Mar 12, 2014

A shopper asked: I am 5'2" and 130 lbs, what size should I get, I like a snug fit but also do not want the front of the jacket to be too short and lift up while riding, judging by others heights and weight and the size they chose I should go with an xs but I feel that would be too small? please help. Roberto A: Hi. Well i'm 6.0 ' and 170 lbs. I chose L size....it fits fine.
Enough lenght for my arms, as well as in the front.

Maybe the M size could fit fine but I was afraid on the arms to be short more than the front.

I don.t know what would fit you better. But im sure you will be fine with S or XS. However i ended up getting L Instead of M and no problems.

Worst case....you can return it and change it for no cost (revzilla poliCy)

hope it helps

Mike S asked: I have a Cortech Tourmaster GX Sport series 2 jacket in size 2XL/48 and it's a bit larger than I would like. Would going with the same size in this AS Viper Air be a bit more snug or would I want to go a size down? Nov 1, 2014

Keith S: I normally wear a large in most jackets but have a XL in this jacket. I'm 5' 8" and 180lbs. The fit is perfect in the chest but the sleeves are a little long. I'm sure a large would have been too tight on me. I don't think I'd go a size down especially if you have a bigger chest. Love the jacket buy the way. Hope that helps in your decision. Nov 1, 2014

David C. H: I think the sizing of this jacket runs a little snug, but that's what you want in a summer sport jacket. I'd order a size down,,, and remember you can always exchange for better personal sizing. I highly recommend this jacket ! Nov 3, 2014

Stardan: I would probably take the medium, especially if you plan on wearing the inner lining (removable) frequently. I'm 5'10" 185lbs, with a 43-44 in. chest, and the Large fits me well. May 21, 2013

RevZilla: The Alpinestars Viper Air Jacket comes with CE certified Bio-Armor protectors in the elbows and shoulders. The chest and back compartments have PE comfort padding that is not CE rated, but CE Bio-Armor is available for purchase separately as an upgrade. Mar 8, 2013
