Very good mesh jacket Bought the hiViz version, the jacket is very nice! Would have like a zipper on the wrist. The protection can be improved with better back protection. Can't wait for summer to ride this jacket! The besh mesh jacket I ever had so far! January 6, 2015
Nice first impression Got this jacket as at a closeout price. I was looking for a nice hot weather riding jacket, but couldn't find anything with good construction and protection at a price that I could afford. Revzilla came through with their closeouts and I snatched this one up! The fit is right on (I'm 5'5, 125 lbs) with good armor. I will be upgrading the back pad though, as the included one is not up to my liking. I haven't ridden with it yet, but from what I can tell, it should breath well. January 5, 2015
Great overall 3 season jacket! I wear a size 42 leather jacket and bought a large and it fits me perfectly when fitted with an Alpinestars Track Protection Vest. Ventilation is amazing. Fits me personally great, I'm only 5"7 at around 85kg and it fits me great. Length is awesome, not too high to ride up your back and not too low to hang over / annoy your rear. One gripe which most people said already is the protection. It's a lightweight jacket, so it's very minimal, although tolerable if you're just going for a quick squirt down to the store. Although, paired up with a vest, or bionic armor (which has mesh venting) would be perfect and offer a great ALL round jacket. I have worn this in winter when the breeze is a bit chilly, chuck the waterproof liner in and a hoodie and you're set! So you could say it's a 3 and a half or 4 season jacket! December 29, 2014
Excellent Jacket Overall very satisfied. Note for the air flow, wich is excellent! December 15, 2014
My first jacket After graduating the MSF course I knew I needed the gear to put up with the humidity and temperatures that Minnesota summers can bring so I went along with the T-GP-R jacket from Alpinestars. I have to say that the money has been well worth it. I was looking for a vented jacket that wouldn't leave me sweating like a pig while I cruise to work or go on trips over the weekend and this jacket has delivered in that aspect. If anything it doesn't feel like I am wearing anything once I remove the liner and the wind goes right through the jacket so we'll see if that aspect holds up in the event of when I go down. The jacket is very form fitting. I was thinking I would have to order a large but ordered a medium and have to say it fits me like a glove, almost as if I am wearing nothing at all. However the elbow, back, and shoulder armor gives me a slight reassurance in terms of protection. I would certainly opt in for some advanced body protection though. December 2, 2014
Well worth the money! First off, this jacket may not be built for all shapes and sizes. That being said I'm 6'1' (Aprox. 185cm) and 150 pounds. Despite many of the reviews claiming the product ran small, I stuck with my LARGE anyway. It fits perfect, and I'm quite a lengthy guy. The sleeves come to exactly where i need them, however I was most worried about the torso length of the jacket not being long enough. Many brands don't tailor to a slender build and chop the torso short. However, this was not a problem with this jacket. TORSO LENGTH WAS PERFECT. I even have enough breathable room within the jacket to wear a hoodie if I want to (I prefer it this way, fills the jacket a little more for a snugger feel). I recommend replacing the chest and back protectors, as they are not the greatest on the market. Despite that, the shoulder and elbow/forearm guards are some of the best you can find in a jacket. My one and only complaint about this jacket is the way the elbow guards seem to move around freely, however when I strap my Alpinestars gauntlets over the sleeves it holds them in place quite well. If you are looking for an affordable jacket from a brand that doesn't cut corners, look no further! This jacket isn't even a deal at that price, it's a steal! Oh yeah I almost forget, thanks Revzilla for the incredible shipping times. I've order two products from you guys (This jacket & Icon Variant Thriller Edition) and each time they arrived on my doorstep in UNDER 24 HOURS with standard free shipping! Incredible doesn't even do it justice. Thanks again guys. December 2, 2014
Lots of air flow, keeps you cool even in sunny Hawaii! Great jacket! Keeps the air flowing to keep you cool, with quality protection! November 29, 2014
Great Jacket but Pathetic Chest and Back Protectors I love the style and comfort factor. I'm 5'6", 160lbs, with an athletic frame (40s suite size) and the Medium fits me extremely well. The CE rated shoulder and elbow protectors are awesome. The elbow protectors cover a good amount of your forearm as well. After you dial in the straps for fitment, the protectors are solid and won't budge. I dinged the jacket on Protection, Features, and Bang for the Buck due to the lack of CE rated Chest and Back protectors. I would have liked to get a little more than those flimsy foam inserts. I will definitely be upgrading with a Body Vest so I can switch from Alpinestars to another brand easily when I purchase a leather jacket for warmer riding. On that note the windbreaker liner works very well, just standing around in it in my house I began to sweat! I could easily see this being used as a Spring/Fall jacket with a sweatshirt underneath. Couple other dings: - Watch the velcro patches, they tend to stick onto the mesh and rip it up a bit resulting in little fuzzies. - Very small gripe but the way the internal liner "snaps" on around the cuff feels fairly cheap for the jacket. It also makes it a little difficult to get your hand through at times, but again a very small gripe. November 12, 2014

If you're at a stand stilI it's hot but tolerable. I immediately upgraded the back pad to the Bionic Air. The default one is about a 1/2" think foam pad which would do nothing in a crash. The jacket breathes so well that if it gets down to 50 degrees in the evening on a freeway, you're gonna be shivering. Jul 21, 2014

Even taking out the liner the jacket is a little warm in the summertime riding in 95 and 100 degree temperatures. Taking out the pads makes it a little cooler, but, I put them back in. I like the aggressive yet not flamboyant style of this jacket, and I trust it's lightweight mesh construction won't cook me for the rest of the summer and into fall. I was also drawn to the inclusion of a wind/rain liner and what sound like very decent armor pieces that won't have to be upgraded immediately, if ever. Aug 17, 2013

A shopper asked: I'm 5' 9" and 175 lbs. Fairly athletic build but not nearly as built as Anthony in the review videos. I seem to be right between the medium and large according to the size chart. Any advice on which size would be best for me? I wear a Joe Rocket Pheonix 4.0 right now in medium and its actually a little big for me without the liner. Do these jackets break in at all?

Thank you!

John K:
I'm 5' 10", 170 lbs, 40" chest, 34" waist and the medium fits very well.  It's snug enough as you'd like a motorcycle jacket to fit but loose enough to be comfortable on and off the bike.  I honestly think a large might be too baggy and long on you.  I haven't used the liner because when it's cool enough to do so, I switch to a leather jacket.

I've worn this jacket all summer in Texas and I haven't noticed any break-in.  Unlike leather, I wouldn't think this kind of material would break in much.

Richard V: John,

I just got this jacket and live in florida..I've been riding in this jacket for about a week now. During the summer did you change out the chest and back inserts that it came with or did you upgrade it to the armor. It seems like those inserts are blocking some of the airflow but I have them in there for protection. Lemme know! Awesome jacket btw would 100% recommend it. I'm 5'8", 38" chest, 32" waist and I rock the medium. Dec 11, 2013
John K: I replaced the back pad with a Bio Armor protector. The Bio Armor back protector also works in my TZ-1 so it was a good buy. I never removed the chest inserts but I always meant to since they don't seem to provide any protective benefit and only serve to block air. Next warm season, I'll remove the chest pieces. I don't think you gain/lose much in terms of cooling by upgrading to a heavier back protector. I did end up ditching the TZ-1 during the hotter days in favor of a mesh jacket. Hope this helps... Dec 15, 2013
David B: How's it going? We have a similar build. I am 5'11 and 175 - fairly athletic build as well but somewhat thinner than Anthony too.

I was worried about the jacket size as well - I decided to get the large and it was a good decision. The jacket is definitely snug with the liner inside. It's been so hot out - I've had the liner out for most of the time I've had the jacket. It doesn't make a huge difference in how the jacket fits, but there's a little more space with the liner out.

I am guessing that you would rather have a touch more room than not enough - I would try the large if I were you.

Hope this help !

A s: I'm 6'0 185 and wear a large, I have really long arms, wide back, but a 32 waist. The XL fit me in the arm length category but was huge in the midsection. I ended up with a large and a set of guantlet gloves to make up for the length. I've had my jacket for almost a year now and its loosened a little bit, I normally ride without the liner but with the liner in it fits way snugger. Its a great jacket though, you'll love it. herman g: I am 5'8" about 145 lbs and wear a medium. It tends to be a bit loose on me but then I do not like it too snug or form fitting. I wear size 38 jacket to give you idea on shoulders. If you like it snug or tight fitting get the medium, otherwise get a large. Not too much break in as it is not leather. This is mainly my summer jacket as it is ventilated unlike my other A Star jack which is also textile that i use for winter time. Sep 6, 2013

JD H: I am 5'9", 200 lbs, and I wear a size 48 coat to fit my chest and shoulders. I bought the xl and it fits well in the chest and shoulders. It is a tad long in the sleeves and loose across the stomach area. I have not noticed it breaking in much and loosening up. Overall I am very satisfied with the jacket and would recommend it. Shawn L: I own this jacket in a large. I'm 5'9 190 and it fits as it should. It is a bit tight in the arms with anything other than a short sleeve shirt on underneath. I have an athletic build and i am larger in the arms and chest than Anthony. Sep 3, 2013

A shopper asked: I ride a harley fxr. is the Alpinestars T-GP-R Air mesh a suitable jacket for cruiser riders or is it sports type of jacket primarily. Thanks in advan Jun 10, 2012

VanBeidaRiffer: I've worn the yellow flouro version on a '72 Sporty (the one with bass-boat paint) with a supermoto-style helmet so anything is possible. Expect some funny looks and gestures if you do this, though.

However, this jacket does not favor a true cruiser riding style. The cut pulls your arms forward towards sports/standard controls. If you have low and forward bars and a not so loud loud black jacket, this might be perfect, though.

Larell: I would say go for it. Flows tons of air and fits great. Has CE armor in shoulders, elbows/forearms. The fit is not aggressive at all compared to say, a Dainese Avro. Its long in the waist and sleeve and doesn't appear to be designed specifically for gauntlet gloves like the Avro. Jul 18, 2012

Mikuni41: It's a track-looking jacket mostly. I have one that i actually zip to a pair of leather GP/Track pants i have as they have a nice perimeter zipper that fits any AlpineStars pants, Not really meant for the track , but really nice and airy jacket for canyon riding in the summer. RevZilla: The Alpinestars T-GP-R Air Jacket is more sport oriented by design, however it will cause no ill effect on a cruiser, standard, or any other two wheeled contraption you can imagine. There is very minimal pre-curve in the sleeves indicative of sport aggressive leathers. Jul 3, 2012

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
anthony r: The reflective areas are very reflective but they're small areas. The jacket is awesome all around though. By far my favorite and I've been riding for 8 years now. If you need more reflectivity just but some 3M strips online and stock then to your helmet and around your bike. That's what I do. You barely notice them during the day and they really come alive with headlights at night. Mar 17, 2014

Luis M asked: Hi I drive mu bike in a very hot part of texas, I need a lot of ventilation, which jackets do you recommend me to buy?
Sep 30, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Richard F: I live up in the DFW area and I'd have to say, this jacket worked very well in the heat these last two summers. It's not going to be as cool as a solid mesh jacket, but I found the ventilation adequate for the summer.

As for other jackets, the only other summer jacket I've owned was a Dainese Air-Frame. It's also a good jacket but also more expensive than this. Either one will serve you well in the heat.

David A: this jacket flows a pretty good amount of air as long as your moving. not surprisingly it still gets pretty toasty if your in stop-and-go traffic. I bought the white one since the whole point of a summer jacket is to keep you cool...black is kinda self defeating.

overall i like this jacket pretty well. my biggest complaint is that the air protectors dont stay put. the pocket for them is a little oversized and the protectors slide up past my elbows.

i would rate this jacket about a 7 on a 1-10 scale for summer riding.

Austin J: Absolutely awesome jacket. I did start sweating around 85F in dry heat after being on the bike for a while (I also sweat easily), but I could still feel the air through the jacket and definitely kept me cooler than the full textile jacket I own. If you're riding above 85F, you might want to consider a full mesh jacket rather than a textile and mesh. Sep 30, 2013

Julius D: I've got this jacket along with the T-GP-Plus Air & they both vent pretty well. For some reason I feel that the Plus vents better even though there are no vents on the back of it like on the R Air but I've never worn them back to back to compare. I'm more comfortable in the Plus jacket than I am when I wear the R Air. Oct 2, 2013

Gabriel N asked: I am 6ft 190lbs with a 42" chest and i am planning on getting the bionic air back protector as well as chest protectors. Should i get a L or and XL? Also which size back protector should i get with either size? May 28, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Todd W: I would wear a large, I am a 44-46 chest jacket wearer and this one in Xlarge fits fine, kinda loose in my opinion. I am the in-between size guy. My A-stars GP- Tech Air Leather I wear a 46 and a Back protector. It is the upper have a race suit, 899 retail at the time leather jacket. It fits me perfectly once I got accustomed to wearing the correct fit. Loose is not ready a good thing, better than nothing granted, but the protect designed in the jacket is one that it needs to fit. Not binding tight, but not loose. I hope this helps. Once I started wearing full Race Suits, then I started understanding proper fitment. Jun 20, 2014

Steven M: I'm 5'11", 43" chest and 33" waist. I went with the XL. I think it fits fine, but I do have some room around the waist. However, I'm happy with the choice as I can layer up under the jacket if need be. Also, there are velcro straps to get nicer fit around the waist. Jul 17, 2014

Jamahl P: I am 5'11" at 192 lbs with a 44" chest. I purchased a size L and also using the Bionic back and chest protectors. The fit is great, its not tight at all but not too loose. I am using a size L back pad which works with a size large and size XL jacket. May 29, 2014

John C: I'd say a large but it would depend on the bulk of the back protector. I have a 46" chest and have an xl. The jacket will conform a little to your build if it's on the tighter side. It's a good jacket either way, breathes great May 28, 2014

Sydney H asked: I got this jacket and the sizing seems to be ok besides the fact that there is a lot of sagging in the arms around my forearms. Meaning, the protection in the elbow and forearm area seem to sag down quite a bit and I can even rotate the armor pieces almost all the way around my arm. I feel as though the entire sleeve compartment should be more narrow, is that the way it is supposed to be? It's not a matter of comfort so much as me being worried the protection would not work correctly should I get in a crash.

I appreciate the help.

chris s: This is my first non leather motorcycle jacket.. I was pleased with the comfort and lightness of it, but when it comes to protection, I'm not too confident in its abilities.. This type of jacket is very loose and saggy.. In a crash it seems like it would spin on you and the padding will move out of the areas like your arms and shoulders... I guess you have yo get it really snug to stay in place... I like it for hot days just buzzing around locally but for longer rides I will go with leather .. ( I also experience a lot of wind flap in the shoulder area at higher speeds ) would I buy another one?... No.. Nothing better than a high end leather racing jacket May 15, 2014

I would like to get one with white sections but im worried it gets dirty and is an absolute nightmare to wash.

VanBeidaRiffer: Your assumptions are correct. I have the white/black/flouro and it has to be hand washed as soon as you can get to it, which is a pain after riding through swarms of the Minnesota state bird, the mosquito (I recommend starting with a vacuum cleaner in that case). Cleans up decent, but it WILL turn grey/brown eventually if you start to neglect it.

Keep this for your warm, sunny day excursions, and wear a grungy jacket or an over jacket on nasty days if you can. It was worth it to me to get the pretty colors.

RevZilla: As long as the protection pads and the liner are removable, we would recommend you using a washing machine with a front loader with a gentle cleaning cycle, and then hang dry the jacket. If you do not have a front loading washing machine, then hand wash would be your best option. Aug 29, 2012

gasaholic: I have this jacket in white and black. It is not hard to clean; i clean it in a sink with soap and water, then let it air dry. The only thing that has been an issue is that I have a slight discoloration of the white sections from where a BIG nasty bug has splattered. Sep 5, 2012

A shopper asked: How does this Jacket do in the cold months of Florida? Does it provide good wind resistance? Oct 8, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Phuong N: Its does pretty good job of stopping wind when u put in the removable liner that comes with the jacket. I would recommend a neck guard or bandana because it lacks neck protection. All in all its pretty good. I live in cleveland ohio and its about 50-60 degrees in the fall. Also buy one size bigger. Oct 8, 2014

William S: Given that I live in Minnesota I can't answer this exactly. There is a zip out wind resistant liner that does block some wind. I have worn it comfortably on some pretty chilly occasions with a hoody underneath it. 50 degrees Farenheit? Oct 8, 2014

A shopper asked: I am 6'2 170lbs. The measurements i took with the tailor tape was: Chest-41', Waist-33', Hip-37', Arm-28'. I double checked the measurements to ensure right sizing. I do not seem to fit all into one category and was wondering what i should do? I watched the sizing video and am willing to go with longer sleeves and loose chest fitting rather than short sleeves and tight chest. Please respond when ever Apr 7, 2013

eddiev: Just bought this jacket....im 6'5 220 pounds with an athletic build. The 2XL fits really good, it actually fits like my scorpion vent tech Large-Tall. Sleeves are perfect length and the overall length of the jacket comes past my belt line with the seat about 5 inches past that.. So far loving it, looks great, and lots of mesh for great air flow. If your a taller guy like me and finding jackets is a problem defiantly get this one...Alpinestars came though with it...

Also rocking this jacket with the Icon Compound mesh pants...great combo check those out as well

cbeamer22: I would be more worried the length of the jacket. The first one I recieved was based on measurements from a tailor. The problem is suits dont allow for movement and I got a jacket that fit but I couldnt move well and it was short. Moved up a size and even thought the sleeves are supposed to be longer they fit just fine and it was at the length I needed it to be. Apr 8, 2013

A shopper asked: It appears the red/white/black option has changed.

Is the current version shown what will ship?
Mar 18, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Chewza: I was originally bitten by the change. The White/Black with Red lettering is what will ship. There are no red panels on this jacket as there were in previous pictures. Not sure why Alpinestars changed the look as I preferred the old color combo better, but it is what it is. So again, what you see is what will ship. Apr 2, 2012

Olyrider: I was concerned about the same thing. I wanted the more red 2.0 than the red and black 3.0. The 2.0 I received was as shown, with all red sleeves. Mar 19, 2012

A shopper asked: Could we get a view of the back for the Black, Black and White colors? Feb 24, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Stevan P: Unfortunately, since the jacket is new we do not have availability in all the colors to take images of the backs. Hopefully in the next month we will have a solid inventory and will update images as we are capable. Mar 5, 2012

Brayan P: Steve I have owned this jacket since April 2012.
To me honest xl will be just fine but if you are upgrading the back and chest protectors you might want to go with a bigger size.

A shopper asked: Which textile pants will zip with this jacket? Apr 10, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: Any pair of similarly-sized leather or textile pants from Alpinestars should match as long as they are listed as having a connection zipper in the product description. Apr 17, 2013

A shopper asked: I have a pair of A* SP2 gloves and was wondering if this jackets, at the wrists, is low enough profile that I can fit the back end of my gloves OVER the jacket? My current jacket doesn't allow for this and it is very cumbersome and, quite frankly, ugly to look at to have the gloves stuffed into my jacket. Feb 15, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Sceaj: Kind of late now, but I have that exact combo. The SP2 works great with this jacket. The jacket has velcro cuffs so you can snug them up around your wrist. Apr 2, 2013
