Very poor build quality, falling apart after less than 7,000 miles! I'm basically a year round rider and live in the southeast US, so temperature-wise these work in all but the coldest days we have. They don't flow the most air during the summer months, but are okay, and with grip warmers can be used down to about 50*F pretty comfortably. Fitment they ran a little small, but fairly accurate to the size chart. HOWEVER - after about 9 months of riding, and just about 7,000 miles, the gloves are falling apart. The stitching has failed in two of the fingertips, the leather around the cuff on my right glove is literally disintegrating, and the rubber covering over the knuckle protector falls off a little more each day. I did not purchase these from RevZilla as I'm sure they would have taken care of me, but be forewarned if your reseller won't take care you, Alpinestars themselves will not do anything, even if they are under warranty! After exchanging a few emails with their customer support, I sent them pictures, and they just stopped responding to any emails. I blasted every email address on their site with the situation, but could not get any further response. This was my first and last alpinestars purchase! With how these gloves have held up with regular day to day use, I cannot trust with how they would do in a high-speed crash. Save the $90 and get some Held, Dianese, or Spidi gloves which are all of much higher quality for the money! June 25, 2015
Good quality for price I purchased these gloves over some of the more expensive GP style Alpinestars gloves because I wanted an everyday glove that gave a little more protection but didn't want to spend that much. Considering the price and how it feels on the hand, I believe it is exactly what I was looking for. Style wise it is excellent and matches my jacket perfectly. June 10, 2015
Excellent Quality Gloves Bought this to be a heavier, more protective product than the mesh gloves I usually ride with. The ventilation could be a bit better for our hot Florida summers but the gloves are still very wearable. I noticed the fit was tight for my hand size (medium) initially but did tend to loosen up with use. These are quality leather gloves with built-in protection so take some getting used too if one has always worn lightweight gloves. Overall, a very nice product, typical of Alpinestars gear. AStars SP8 Gauntlet Pretty good glove for the price. Haven't had to crash test it yet thankfully. Seems to run a little small, I wear a medium in most other gloves and it is a bit tight on me. Overall would recommend if you're looking for a good affordable gauntlet glove. June 8, 2015
short Fit - measured right in the middle of the medium size just under 3.5 inches cross section of the palm. gloves fit good around the palm but are too short, and i don't have monkey hands or anything. the fingers were short almost painfully so, and the palm didn't extend to the wrist. short about .25 inches with the glove pulled all the way down. my hand measures 7 and 7/8 inch. round off to 8 inches just to be safe, and I had to go to a large to make it work unless you like bruised fingers. Comfort - feels a bit thin on the leather, not what i expected from an almost track level glove. Pinky finger was has a seam right over the first knuckle. other than the shortness and pinky finger it was pliable and almost broken in out of the box. Protection - as stated above seemed a bit thin on the leather. but the cuff was plenty sturdy and was comfortable with or without a jacket. style- looks great ( black white red color) Airflow- because its a little less beefy than a real track glove, it doesn't get that warm even on 80 deg days. 93+ and it will either need lots of speed or you may sweat in them. Warm enough at 55+ while being comfortable. No room for liners FYI. All in All, could be better priced around 65-70 not 89. June 3, 2015
True to Size, Nicely Made I ordered an XL as per the sizing chart, and it fit well. The stitching and construction are all very nice. The velcro closure is quick to get on and off, but feels very secure. As a bonus, they look good, too. June 1, 2015
a mixed bag I bought these glove and the day after went on a 2200 mile tour around the great lakes on my 2013 street triple r. During the trip I experienced freezing cold rainy weather and 80 degree stop start traffic. So its safe to say I put these gloves through a lot. First off, comfort.... They run small and stiff there is no way around it, they are tight in the palm even after you break them in and if you plan on wearing inner glove liners the problem obviously gets even worse. When it comes to protection its another mixed bag. Despite being a full glove by no means is this a track ready glove. There is no real finger protection or hard wrist protection, however the knuckles have sliders. Lastly, Temperature control, these gloves are kinda the master of none when it comes to this. Based on my riding they do great with low 70 high 60 degree riding anything else you run into either the glove doesn't breath enough to do well with the heat, or the glove is too thin and your hands freeze. Even with inserts sub 50 degree weather is quite unpleasant. When it comes to recommending the protect, I'm sorta in a maybe camp. if you can deal with the short comings and you love the look, go for it. But if u need a do everything glove i dont think this is it. May 25, 2015
Great Gloves An awesome pair of gloves to own. They look great and fit well. The left is a little tighter than the right, but over all great fitting gloves. May 25, 2015

Matt W: Love Alpinestars as a brand and their quality. Was looking for a new street/season glove. Looked at the SP-2 and SP-8; didn't like the new red SP-2 design, so went with the SP-8. Feb 22, 2014
Raul A: I dig the colors I needed a more comfortable pair of gloves for the next season also Feb 11, 2014
Cody B: I choose these as a good compromise between protection and price. I'm a musician so I have to protect my hands, and these borderline track gloves should do the job for most street riding. Nov 11, 2013
G R: I needed gloves and these were the most protective looking and best rated. The stitching is coming apart on several fingers of my throttle hand after 100 or so miles riding. Could be a fluke. Great gloves otherwise. Oct 1, 2013
Brennan B asked: Do these gloves fit under a jacket? If not, do you feel they are tight enough and will not fall off if overtop of a jacket? Mar 31, 2015

john r: These gloves will not fit under most riding jackets. These gloves feel secure and won't fall off over the top of your sleeves. Gauntlet style gloves are made to be worn with the gloves over the cuff of your jacket. Great gloves for the price, I highly recommend them. Apr 1, 2015

Sridhar T: Brennan, the gloves fit tight like you dipped your hand in paint. They don't go under the jacket , too wide mouth but very snug and the fingers move flexible.

Michael T: You should be able to fit these under the sleeves of your jacket without much of an issue, I have a medium build with a relatively tight jacket and it works for me. The Velcro straps are strong and make these gloves snug but comfortable around the wrists should you decide to leave them over the jacket. Apr 9, 2015

Aleksei P asked: How are these in the heat (85+ degrees)? Feb 2, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Alfred R: Hello, Aleksei-

First to answer your question: the SP8 gloves were just fine in high temperatures. I ride an ADV bike with hand guards that block the wind, and the SP8's are adequately ventilated for warm temperatures. I believe any full-coverage glove like these will understandably be a bit on the warm/hot side in 85+ degree temperatures, but (for me) that is a small trade-off for the protection offered by the gloves.

I used these gloves last summer 2014 riding thru Texas hill country in +/- 100 degree heat. At the end of the day, the SP8 gloves were soaked with perspiration from my hands, but they dried out by morning. After several back-to-back days of this, the gloves started to discolor my hands a blue-black color- due to the leather color pigment of the gloves. I did not have a major objection to this- given the daily hard use I was giving these gloves on our cross-country ride- but of course I was disappointed.

What I DID object to about these gloves is that less than eight months after purchasing them, the stitching around the fingers started to loosen and unravel- just from regular, daily use- NOT dropping the bike or anything like that. I contacted Alpinestars to see if they would replace the gloves, but they said no, considering it just "normal wear and tear". For the price point of these gloves, I think the stitching should have stood up better than it did. And given this price point, Aleksei, I think you could perhaps find a better choice of glove(s) at Revzilla that would be suitable for your warm weather riding, and hopefully hold up better than the SP8 did for me.

I hope I have answered your question. Hope to see you out there, and... ride safe!

Peter H: They flow a decent amount of air, especially if you ride with your fingers covering the levers. There are perforations along the side of the fingers.

I'll have to echo the previous answer's sentiment: I wouldn't buy these again. the suede covered padding area wore through from the waffle grips on my old DRZ. I have scorpion SG3s now and am much happier with them.

john r: Not bad at all for being a gauntlet as long as you're moving. But I can see them getting uncomfortable 95+ with any significant amount of humidity. Feb 2, 2015

Trevor C asked: how will these gloves hold up in a slide at 80-100 mph?
Anthony described these as being not really a great track day glove but more spirited riding. what is the criteria for sport riding to track riding, slide protection or impact resistance?

john r: This is merely speculation because I haven't slid with these gloves... yet. I consider these gloves like a summertime street gauntlet. They are not going to provide the protection of say the GP Techs but I still have a lot of confidence in their ability to protect my hands and wrists if I go down. Hope that helps. May 21, 2015
