Crash tested
This is my 2nd review on this booth (i have the non-vented ones), my first review was mostly on fit and comfort while riding. Unfortunately I low-sided in these boots at the track going about 50 mph. i hit the gravel, flipped and spun a few times and went sliding face down. I was able to confidently stand up moments after the crash, and walked away with absolutely NO PROBLEMS with my legs, shins, ankles, feet, toes. And though i was sore in other places my legs and feet did not suffer any injury or soreness after the crash. Also after wiping them off, they look almost new again haha. highly recommended for protection. hopes this helps.

VERY DISAPPOINTED :(
At first i loved them, they were comfortable and look like nice quality boots.
The second time, i had them on almost all day, but by the end of the day the right ankle protection fail, coming loose at the bottom, the screw that holds the piece in place came out.

I'm really dissapointed with the whole buying experience with this brand... Never buying alpinestars products again

Surprisingly comfortable and 'airy'
I live in California and only ride casually so warm weather performance was one key thing. I wanted a white boot to compliment my A* 2-piece race suit but didn't want to spend a fortune on it and so I was really happy to find the SMX 6 vented boots. As usual, Revzilla delivered quickly and the boots fit like I've been wearing them for years. I've had a couple Sidi and other boots in the past but none were this comfortable, even after wearing them for months. I didn't have any of the problems mentioned below but did make sure that the small allen screws are tightened so I don't lose them (will keep on checking on them regularly). It also surprised me how much airflow my feet get during riding. Due to this, I would not recommend this boot below 55-60F temperatures as it does get pretty cold in there. Having said that, it will be amazing on sunny 85-90F days... Also, if you're buying a suit with this boot, the A* Motegi goes really well with it in terms of design and fitment.

Great boot.. Except it came apart after ONE ride
Have had several pairs of other A* boots. These are typical good fit, nice construction, and I appreciate the new details relative to the SMX5.

That said,
The ankle protector screw came out after ONE ride. Yes, it was maybe 4 hours total.

I'm in contact with A* on warranty work, and I will try to update with my experiences, but they clearly have a QC issue with this boot.

Great starter boots!
I picked up these boots to get off riding in high top sneakers. I had initially tried riding with my friends Super Tech R boots, but I didnt like them. I couldnt feel my pegs and shifters I felt disconnected from my bike. These SMX 6 on the other hand feel more like regular shoes/boots than a specific riding boots. I can feel where my pegs and shifters are and I feel a better connection with my bike. The venting is great as well once you get up to speed. I have wide feet and the foot bed is nice and accommodating. The zipper velcro system is nice, making getting in and out of the boots a breeze as well as fine tuning them to your fit.

Love these boots
After trying a pair or two of riding shoes (that did not fit) I purchased these SMX6's. The shoes would have been fine for a modest amount of foot protection and to keep that tendon of your shifter foot big toe from getting really sore, but they just left me feeling exposed in the ankle and shin. I think having the foot protection really made the ankle and shin exposure stand out.

As soon as I slid my foot into the footbed of the first boot, I knew I was going to be happy. These boots are great. Very comfortable as others have mentioned, and lots of protection. They seem to have some type of foam padding or boot liner that is very comfortable. They feel almost like ski boots, but not nearly as bulky or awkward. I got the vented version and on the highway in the 60 degree temp area I could feel the cool air blowing on my toes, especially if I pointed my toes down exposing the top of the shoe to the slipstream. Even if you are not riding I have to believe that the perforations will at least allow some steam to leave the shoe! The sole if very stiff, but you can still walk in these. I wouldn't want to walk in them all day, or around the mall if your girlfriend makes you go there, but certainly from the pit-side parking lot to the stands and down to the concession stand for a few hotdogs at your local race track.

I've attached a few pics of mine with a pair of jeans on. I am able to snug the top of the boot up on my shin/calf and get a pair of Levi's 505 jeans down over them. In the future I plan to wear a pair of some type of riding pants with knee/shin pads, so I am guessing they won't fit outside the boot at that time. But with a more sport specific pair of pants, I imagine they will look good on the outside of the pants anyway.

I don't know what to tell you about boot size and shape. I did try a few different brands at my bike shop simply trying to find a pair to buy. The Alpinestars fit me the best of the other brands I tried. The Dainese's were very loose on my heel so as a brand, I had to rule them out. I tired at least one other brand but I can't remember which one. The Alpinestars just seemed to feel "normal" to me. I wear a size 12 dress/work shoe, and probably a 12.5 sneaker. I was surprised that in these boots, a size 46 was the right choice. I think that translates to about an 11.5 American if I remember correctly. They are not too tight or too loose. Just right! I'm very happy with my choice.

MAJOR quality control problem with ankle protection - broke instantly on both boots
***PIC OF PROBLEM ATTACHED***
Bought these and used them only about 2 weeks. Before I really even had a chance to use them (not a scratch on the toe slider or anywhere else - nothing but the sole has touched the ground of either boot), I put them on to ride one morning and noticed a washer was peaking out from the plastic ankle brace and the screw that binds it to the body of the boot was completely disconnected.

Thing is, you *can't* reattach this screw without removing the liner of the boot...which of course is permanently sewn in. So sure enough I had to pay $12 out of pocket to mail the left boot back to AlpineStars for a warranty repair.

Well guess what: a couple days later I go to pick up the right boot to put it back in the closet while I await warranty return of my left one, and *clink* a little washer falls on the floor! What the actual !@$%? I'm already out 8 days of riding due to waiting on return of the left boot, which I haven't even gotten back yet, and the right one has the exact same problem!?

I'd have let one boot slide, but having the same problem on both boots is an inexcusable QA issue that I cannot let go un-reviewed. While this boot is otherwise very comfortable and seems like it'd hold up in a crash (except for the ankle!), this major design flaw and the fact that this apparently common issue can't be fixed by the consumer means I have to suggest you keep shopping.

Snug fit.
I was on the fence about returning these boots because the fit was somewhat snug. After a few hours, they broke in nicely and now are very comfortable.

Airflow is good, especially if you can get your feet out in the breeze. I have an FZ-09, with a fairly upright seating position, and I noticed if i lean forward (making the tops of my boots face the front) then the airflow is much better. sitting upright, not so much air goes through them.

Good range of motion through the ankles, and a decent feel through the uppers make these boots a great buy.

Excellent Riding Boot
I was looking for a intermediate riding boot, something that could have adequate protection, do the occasional track day, but not be horrible to walk around in off the bike, on the weekends. This boot does all that and more. The level of protection at this price point is impressive. The linkage and hard parts are top quality. The boot is light, and while the foot controls might feel slightly muted with them compared to say, a riding shoe, it's not by much. These boots are actually more comfortable to walk around in than some of my riding shoes. Great value, protection and comfort, if you're looking for a good all around boot with protection and comfort this is an excellent option.

First Set of Riding Boots AWSOME.
I wear a 12-1/2 and got size 48 EURO and they fit perfect.
They are extremely light. They are lighter than most of my shoes and fit well.
This is my first set of Street Boots. Ive had Motocross boots before, but these are alot different in a good way.
Also, easy to walk around in and don't feel awkward.

The most comfortable boots I've ever owned, most comfortable shoes I've ever owned for that matter. I wear size 14, I have wide feet, they fit like a glove. I tried on many different boots in the Philly showroom, none of them were anywhere near as comfortable as these.

I recently funded my brother's introduction to track days, purchasing him a full set of gear. Took him to Philly, and he tried on about a dozen pairs of boots. He settled on these, and likes them just as much as I do.

For me these boots hit the sweet spot between hardcore race boots and comfortable street riding boots. I wanted a pair of boots adequate for a few track lessons, but mainly to be used on weekend rides when I put on my full leathers. They are comfortable enough to walk in but have the sturdy heel, outer toe and high shin protection. They are also easier to get in and out of than the full race boots.

I am 56 years old, and after not riding for 42 years (prior MX experience) I know what can happen when riding. So now on a CBR650F and I know I love the twisties. I wanted a boot that would afford me the proper protection, and the SMX 6 after reading all the technical specs and reviews should do that. As well, I plan on some track days, though I will take it easy, but you never know what will happen or when. ATGATT or better said, ride smart and protect yourself!

For full coverage on the street these are technical boots that will do well. Also the perforations are perfect for our SoCal weather here in San Diego. These are the boots I wear when I am going to spend the better part of the day riding, as opposed to commuting because of their increased protection and airflow.

I am in the process of piecing together my track suit. This has a bit more protection than the mx-5s on closeout and with the revzilla cash i have from my previous purchase this comes out to be near the same price as the mx-5s. This is my first aggressive track/street boot. I use cortech vice wp for commuting in a size 45, and seeing as how many comments state that the mx-6 runs a bit big I chose the size 45 to hopefully get a good fit.

Upon research, it seems this was the best value for the bucks. Also, Alpinestars and Revzilla both are reputable brands!!

I've never owned Alpinestars boots before and I figure I'd give them try.

I rtecently bought the SMX-6 and the bottom screws holding the multi-link tpu system came loose. which makes the extra protection from the multi-link pretty useless. does anyone else have this problem? or suggestions on how to screw it back in short of tearing the liner. they are brand new 270 dollar boots and I don't think i should have to do that.

BEST ANSWER: Sorry to hear of your problem. I chose to return these boots as they seemed overpriced for the amount/lack of protection. Sounds like you have a legitimate warranty claim. Send them back for a replacement or refund.
I currently wear the smx-2 short boot and have never worn a full length boot. Can u still wear these under your pant or do you have to wear them on the outside?
whip00 on Jul 14, 2014
BEST ANSWER: If you are wearing a suit then no, they go on the outside. If you have loose/ relaxed for jeans, they'll fit on the inside but it'll look slightly bulky.
Are these boots comfortable on a cruiser? I am looking for books with max protection for my cruiser trips (~100 miles)

I've had a little trouble with Alpinestar's velcro in the past. How does the big velcro patch on these boots hold up to repeated use? Also, I have kinda wide feet. Would this boot be comfortable for everyday riding?
Jason R on Jul 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: To be honest.... I have the vented and the non-vented for both hot and cold weather riding. The velcro on the vented are holding up nicely after about 4 months of use (I ride daily to/from work and weekend riding) I only have 2 months in the non-vented but they are still like the day I bought them. To date... no issues. I wear 9.5-10 in mens and in these I wear an 8 (this was weird) but they are comfortable on daily rides as well as weekend long-haul gettaways. If you have wide feet.... depends how wide but the sizing can be a factor. These boots should be a little snug in the beginning and eventually they will stretch out but not a lot. These are a little narrow in the beginning . Hope this helps
Hi,i used to have alpinestars WEB gore tex in size 42 but it was a little small for my foot, what do you advise for Alpinestars SMX 6 Vented Boots 42or 43?

BEST ANSWER: Hello , I wear a size 9 sneaker and I bought the corresponding size for the smx-6. They fit great and true to size. I got them for the track but I wear them on any ride now because of how comfortable they are. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for added street protection.
Are the soles on the SMX 6 model replaceable? I'm trying to find a boot that is entry level but has a replaceable sole to increase the longevity of use.
A shopper on Aug 13, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Contact Alpinestars because the soles on the SMX-5's are in fact replaceable. I would not doubt they are replaceable on the SMX-6's as well. You have to mail them in to Alpinestars in California and they will freshen them up.
I was just wondering if this boot is comfortable to walk around in. I want a boot that has the maximum protection that I could also wear all day, and if i could aslo take it to the track then thats an added bonus. Would this boot do that or is it too track oriented? The other boot I am looking at is the Dainese TRQ tour boots. What do yall think?

BEST ANSWER: These boots have pretty stiff ankle support, they aren't really meant for wearing while walking around. Short distances are manageable and they're comfortable to wear for long periods of riding though. Also, they're pretty bulky at the top so they won't fit under most normal pants.
Has anyone used these vented boots in cold temperature? I'm talking Philadelphia winter in December so like 30 degrees in the morning? What's it like when beefing up with extra socks?
A shopper on Jul 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I'm in Maryland so pretty much the same temps you have. I bought a size larger than needed so I could wear thick socks in the cold or windbreaker type socks. They've worked fine so far but last year I didn't ride below about 40 degrees. At that temp my feet weren't a problem. I find also that if I ride with my feet horizontal on the pegs and level with the ground the airflow is cut off for the most part. So if I want more airflow when it's hot I lift my heels to expose the top of my feet to the wind, if it's cold I keep them horizontal. Hope this helps. If regular socks aren't warm enough I would just get a pair of heated socks, can't imagine that wouldn't do the trick. I really like the boots, very comfortable.
Thinking about getting the SMX 6 boots but cant decide what one to get the vented or non vented. I live on the Gulf Coast so its hot here sometimes but it gets wet here a lot as well... I really dont want the Waterpoof ones tho. Also i wear a 10 in most shoes like DC shoes what do you recommend size wise in these?
Corey W on May 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I bought mine last year, my feet sweat hardcore and I live in Wisconsin where it's not nearly as warm as for you, but I'd recommend the vented ones. Size is pretty solid, I wear a 10.5 and bought the 43s fit well.
I currently wear the SMX 2 short boot in a 39. Its tight but not uncomfortable. What size do you recommend in this boot? I am also looking at the SMX 6 and the SMX Plus in the closeout section. I do mainly road touring but I would like to try a track session.

BEST ANSWER: Im not sure how these compare to the SMX2 short boot but I have this boot in Euro size 44, which Alpinestars calls a 9.5 in US sizes. I generally wear a 10 -10.5 in most shoes/boots. Im still able to wear a thick pair of smart wool socks with them when I ride as well so I would say these run a little large, personally. The top of the boot is a little wide -possibly to accommodate the angle of your leg in the riding position but you can correct this somewhat by pulling closure tight. My knee/shin guards tuck in to them well also. Otherwise, they are very comfortable. Flow a lot of air. I found them to fit more comfortably than Sidi boots.
