Awesome boots I read that the A star sizes are tough to get right on so I went to my local motorcycle gear store and checked out the SMX 6 had to try on few different sizes but once I got the right one the boot felt super stiff but I expected that since there new and I read once broke in they are very comfortable so I ordered the SMX 6 Vented and after about 6 hours of riding total they fit just perfect not stiff anymore very comfortable and provide plenty of protection. July 29, 2015
Great shoe for the price Pros: Great protection Very durable Good air flow (have ridden in 100 F plus) Cons: Stiff (to be expected from this type of boot, so not really a con) Feels like there is a bit too much space around the ankle Overall a very good boot for the price point. I am always looking for products with track day level safety that are still comfortable enough to ride with in the city on a hot day. Would definitely recommend if you are living in a hot climate and are looking for a full size leather boot. July 29, 2015
really when is too much enough? or is over the top just right? July 28, 2015
Great starter boots! I picked up these boots to get off riding in high top sneakers. I had initially tried riding with my friends Super Tech R boots, but I didnt like them. I couldnt feel my pegs and shifters I felt disconnected from my bike. These SMX 6 on the other hand feel more like regular shoes/boots than a specific riding boots. I can feel where my pegs and shifters are and I feel a better connection with my bike. The venting is great as well once you get up to speed. I have wide feet and the foot bed is nice and accommodating. The zipper velcro system is nice, making getting in and out of the boots a breeze as well as fine tuning them to your fit. July 27, 2015
Can't even tell you are wearing them Super comfortable. Think of them as your new favorite pair of shoes. Size is a little larger than standard. I went .5 size down. All hard ware/safety stuff is in the right spots. Good feel for brakes and shifter. Toe slider works well :) too. July 19, 2015
Super Comfy These boots are super comfortable and well ventilated, based on my experience. I got 'em for norcal summer and they're working out so far. One time, I got caught in a 50 degree drizzle at night, and my feet were just fine. I would absolutely buy these again. July 17, 2015
Highly Recommend Let me start of by saying these boots are the perfect combination of style, comfort, protection and price. I would definitely recommend these boots for anyone. Whether your commuting, touring, or on the Track I doubt you would find any reason to complain about this product. These are the type of boots that inspire confidence in your riding. July 14, 2015
Super comfortable, not so vented Quality was very nice as expected from alpinestars. They are very comfortable and the protection feels bulletproof. However, the venting was not noticeable. I'm unsure how the fine perforation on the exterior flows air through the rest of the layers of the boot. Those little metal screen "vents" seem to just be aesthetic. The liner feels amazing. I wish it had some kind of different adjustment though instead of a zipper and Velcro, like the buckles on off-road boots. Over all a very nice pair of boots! July 1, 2015

Edcel P: I am in the process of piecing together my track suit. This has a bit more protection than the mx-5s on closeout and with the revzilla cash i have from my previous purchase this comes out to be near the same price as the mx-5s. This is my first aggressive track/street boot. I use cortech vice wp for commuting in a size 45, and seeing as how many comments state that the mx-6 runs a bit big I chose the size 45 to hopefully get a good fit. Sep 19, 2014

Ryan H: Good on track off track boot, had high reviews and good styling Dec 17, 2013
steve b: Check your sizes carefully! I wear European shoes everyday, other moto boots and even cycling shoes all fit well as a 46.
These 46's are WAY big! I had to exchange down. Good news is Revzilla makes it pretty easy, but I'm still out the shipping charges.
I wish Revzilla was like zappos and paid for the return shipping too!

Chris L asked: I rtecently bought the SMX-6 and the bottom screws holding the multi-link tpu system came loose. which makes the extra protection from the multi-link pretty useless. does anyone else have this problem? or suggestions on how to screw it back in short of tearing the liner. they are brand new 270 dollar boots and I don't think i should have to do that. Brian K: Sorry to hear of your problem. I chose to return these boots as they seemed overpriced for the amount/lack of protection. Sounds like you have a legitimate warranty claim. Send them back for a replacement or refund. Feb 18, 2014

carlos m: Hi chris. This is exactly what happen to my boots after only the second time wearing them. I call revzilla and they will only tell you to call alpinestars, wich i did, and they told me to send the boots to them with a returned number they gave me. It's been only 1 week and haven't heard from them yet. Be prepared to be down another $20 to ship them back, they said they will see if they can be fix or they will send you new ones at no extra cost, wich i think is the less they can do because they should payback the $20 for sending their bad product back to them. Good luck and be patience my friend Feb 18, 2014

craig w asked: I currently wear the smx-2 short boot and have never worn a full length boot. Can u still wear these under your pant or do you have to wear them on the outside? Jul 14, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
Kent H: If you are wearing a suit then no, they go on the outside. If you have loose/ relaxed for jeans, they'll fit on the inside but it'll look slightly bulky. Jul 14, 2014

Levi B: No I wear them on the inside just fine. You look like a superhero if u don't lol Jul 14, 2014

Micah S: I just tested with my Dianese D1 jeans and it's not even close. Unless your pants are bell bottoms they probably won't fit over the SMX-6.

When I'm out riding I usually wear A* GP Pro leathers with these boots -- they're not really suited for everyday commuter wear.

Fedir P: It depends on pants. My riding pants have decent opening and I have no problem wearing them over boots. However, you can have certain problem with regular jeans (especially skinny ones) Jul 14, 2014

Samuel B: If you have really wide pant legs maybe, but in my experience the shin protection of the boot is too wide for most jeans to fit over. Jul 14, 2014

Jason R asked: I've had a little trouble with Alpinestar's velcro in the past. How does the big velcro patch on these boots hold up to repeated use? Also, I have kinda wide feet. Would this boot be comfortable for everyday riding? Jul 12, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Johnathan R: To be honest.... I have the vented and the non-vented for both hot and cold weather riding. The velcro on the vented are holding up nicely after about 4 months of use (I ride daily to/from work and weekend riding) I only have 2 months in the non-vented but they are still like the day I bought them. To date... no issues. I wear 9.5-10 in mens and in these I wear an 8 (this was weird) but they are comfortable on daily rides as well as weekend long-haul gettaways. If you have wide feet.... depends how wide but the sizing can be a factor. These boots should be a little snug in the beginning and eventually they will stretch out but not a lot. These are a little narrow in the beginning . Hope this helps Jul 12, 2014

Jason M: I've had mine for a couple months and wear them 3-4 times a week. So far the Velcro is fine, almost too strong. No pilling or signs of wear. The zipper goes about 2/3 up, so the Velcro mostly just keeps everything tight, it doesn't hold boot on. My feet are on the wide side of normal and they fit fine. There's room for wider feet due to padding and stretch in the forefoot.
These are different than MX boots. Not as much support, but more mobility with the protective parts wrapping around a padded, stretchy boot. Definitely comfortable on the bike, not sure about wearing them around as I usually just walk into work and change into work shoes.
I'm really happy with them.

Colin F: I found these boots to be wider than Sidi's. Velcro is good but the top of the boot opening is big so you end up folding the enclosure over more than is intended based on design and there isn't as big of a patch of Velcro as necessary to accommodate. I've been meaning to take mine to my tailor to add a bigger connective patch to deal with a tighter closure. Very comfortable. Highly vented. Jul 12, 2014

Mark S: I have both these and the smx5 as well both the Velcro on each is great. Had the mx5 for two years and smx6 for almost a year no issues. I also have a wide foot and find they fit really well. I would highly recommend these. Jul 13, 2014

Banning C: Good ventilation and good fit. I cannot speak to whether or not this boot will accommodate a wide foot, however the boot has been great for me and no velcro issues thus far. Jul 13, 2014
Reply to Banning Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
David C: I haven't had any problems with the Velcro yet. I've got about 1000 miles in them, so far so good. I've got wide feet too and the SMX 6 fits great. I tried a few others that wouldn't fit due to width. I did size up one size to 45 rather than 44. I wear 10.5 to 11 shoes depending on which brand. I sized up so I could wear a thick windbreaker sock in cold weather to cut off the venting, then in hot weather I wear thin socks and put in a dr. scholls foot bed in so the boot fits snug and I get the benefit of the perforation. That way I didn't have to buy 2 pairs of boots. Sounds crazy but it's worked for me. Jul 12, 2014

Vic A: Hi Jason. Based on one of the RevIlla videos, I ordered the Alpinestars SMX6 and Daniele TR Course Out. I tried on both and kept the Dainese and returned the Astars. The Astars were more comfy but ran a little big in size, especially the width. I did not like the giant Velcro panels - I thought they would be a pain to deal with. And the Dainese offers better ankle protection.

I mostly ride on the track. If I were to ride more on the street I would probably pick they Astars. They were super comfy.

Hope this helps.

Andrew H: Its about 2 inches wide by 4 inches - just an approximation. I use them daily with long socks and over pants. Between the zipper and the velcro these bad boys won't be coming loose any time soon. Jul 12, 2014

A shopper asked: Hi,i used to have alpinestars WEB gore tex in size 42 but it was a little small for my foot, what do you advise for Alpinestars SMX 6 Vented Boots 42or 43? Jul 24, 2014

marcio s: Hello , I wear a size 9 sneaker and I bought the corresponding size for the smx-6. They fit great and true to size. I got them for the track but I wear them on any ride now because of how comfortable they are. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for added street protection. Jul 24, 2014

Tanner R: In bicycling shoes I wear a size 42.5. In street shoes (Adidas) I wear a size 9. I found that Alpinestars street boots like smx-1 and the smx-6 run a little big. I wear a size 42 (men's 8) in Alpinestars and I find it very comfortable. Jul 25, 2014

A shopper asked: Has anyone used these vented boots in cold temperature? I'm talking Philadelphia winter in December so like 30 degrees in the morning? What's it like when beefing up with extra socks? Jul 21, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
David C: I'm in Maryland so pretty much the same temps you have. I bought a size larger than needed so I could wear thick socks in the cold or windbreaker type socks. They've worked fine so far but last year I didn't ride below about 40 degrees. At that temp my feet weren't a problem. I find also that if I ride with my feet horizontal on the pegs and level with the ground the airflow is cut off for the most part. So if I want more airflow when it's hot I lift my heels to expose the top of my feet to the wind, if it's cold I keep them horizontal. Hope this helps. If regular socks aren't warm enough I would just get a pair of heated socks, can't imagine that wouldn't do the trick. I really like the boots, very comfortable. Jul 22, 2015
Reply to David Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
Paul V: Thanks David. Vented boots it is and windproof socks for winter if needed. Jul 22, 2015
Hien T: These boots, just like most motorcycle gear, are very snug when you buy the correct size. If you plan on wearing THICK socks to help keep your feet warm in 30-degree weather, I'd recommend getting different boots. These ventilate very well and will NOT keep your feet warm even if you wear thick socks. Plus, I don't think the boots will fit with thick socks and if they do, then you might not have the proper size. Hope this helps. Jul 22, 2015

Corey W asked: Thinking about getting the SMX 6 boots but cant decide what one to get the vented or non vented. I live on the Gulf Coast so its hot here sometimes but it gets wet here a lot as well... I really dont want the Waterpoof ones tho. Also i wear a 10 in most shoes like DC shoes what do you recommend size wise in these? May 25, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
cory s: I bought mine last year, my feet sweat hardcore and I live in Wisconsin where it's not nearly as warm as for you, but I'd recommend the vented ones. Size is pretty solid, I wear a 10.5 and bought the 43s fit well. May 27, 2015

Stuart K: I live on the gulf coast too. I have the vented ones but to be honest I don't really notice a decent airflow so in my opinion you may be as well with the non vented ones. Jun 5, 2015

tsuyoshi t asked: I currently wear the SMX 2 short boot in a 39. Its tight but not uncomfortable. What size do you recommend in this boot? I am also looking at the SMX 6 and the SMX Plus in the closeout section. I do mainly road touring but I would like to try a track session. Jan 29, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Colin F: Im not sure how these compare to the SMX2 short boot but I have this boot in Euro size 44, which Alpinestars calls a 9.5 in US sizes. I generally wear a 10 -10.5 in most shoes/boots. Im still able to wear a thick pair of smart wool socks with them when I ride as well so I would say these run a little large, personally. The top of the boot is a little wide -possibly to accommodate the angle of your leg in the riding position but you can correct this somewhat by pulling closure tight. My knee/shin guards tuck in to them well also. Otherwise, they are very comfortable. Flow a lot of air. I found them to fit more comfortably than Sidi boots. Jan 29, 2014

John R: I normally wear a 44 and ordered the same size. The boot is roomy enough for thicker socks. This boot is very comfortable, but is really suited for the aggressive weekend warrior or occasional track day guy. Highly recommend. Jan 29, 2014

A shopper asked: I presently wear a pair of SMX-1s in 43 and they're insanely comfortable. I was disappointed to find the SMX-5s are extremely narrow in the toe compared to the SMX-1s. I'm looking for the SMX-1 fit in a full shaft boot. Will the SMX-6s give me the room in the toe I need the SMX-5s lack? Dec 17, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
David C: These (SMX-6) are my first pair of A-stars boots. I tried Dianese boots with the ankle control frame and found it squeezed my ankle and put my heels to sleep. Width at the ball of the foot was snug too. I tried TCX with the ankle control frame as well. Same result of them squeezing my ankle. The TCX did have a lot more width at the ball of the foot though and I would have kept them had it not been for the ankle. (my left ankle was damaged long ago and never healed right)
The SMX-6 is very very comfortable. I have wide feet and love them. You may also want to try TCX. Every TCX I've tried has fit perfect. (except the ankle thing I mentioned) I have TCX riding shoes and love them. I settled on the SMX6 for boots and I'm really happy.
You can always send them back. I did...many times, and Revzilla has been incredible with their service.

David C: The Dianese's are beautiful. I mean it, I wanted to wear them all the time.lol Unfortunately I have wide feet and they put my heels to sleep. Sounds weird I know but they did. I love my SMX-6's. Super comfortable. Both offer great protection although I think the Dianese wins that contest for ankle protection and looks. If you have average width feet you'll love the TR's. To be honest it's mostly preference. Order them both and send back the pair you don't like. Dec 17, 2013
