Great City Riding Gloves. Awesome styling.
The problems that I have with this gloves is the seams inside the gloves can be felt during long rides. The Mesh on the fingers gets frayed too easily when putting the gloves on.
Overall it is quite a good pair of gloves for the price and the styling is great. Airflow is good but not great. Fit is a little small, so if you are in between sizes, go up a size and don't make the same mistake that I did.
Do Recommend to City Riders but not to Riders who do trackdays.

Was looking for a new pair of street riding gloves. These were in the same price range as my last pair and looked to provide similar amount of protection. I liked the styling better on the A* so I gave them a try. Happy with them after about a week and few short (less than 10 miles each trips).
Sizing Note- I usually wear a size L in other brands. XL in these are a perfect but snug fit. I expect them to loosen a little over time but L would have been much too tight.
Cons: -A couple threads of stitching on one of the palm areas were loose and frayed when they arrived (about a two stitch gap). It is minor at this point but being that it is on the palm where I hold the clutch side grip, it may impact the construction after more use. Will have to see how they hold up over time. (see photo)
-(Nitpicky opinion here)- the velcro flap on the wrist goes from top to bottom. This makes it somewhat awkward to secure with the other hand and get the velcro lined up properly. Still gets the job done, but other shorty gloves I've owned went from bottom to top and I never thought about it, but they were much easier to put on. These make me feel like I could use another thumb.

Build quality of the gloves seems to be good so far and the styling is really nice. The glove seems to fit well except the pinky is a bit on the big size, but not so much that it makes it annoying to wear. Overall, they are very comfortable and would definitely recommend them!

I am a sport touring rider and enjoy "aggressive" long distance touring. For long hours in the saddle, comfort is absolutely essential. The Alpinestars SMX-2 Air Carbon Gloves fill the bill, then some. The construction and attention to detail is excellent. Engineering is well thought-out. Comfort is very good. The only drawback is the fact that Alpinestars fits on the small side. I am normally a size Large in most gloves, but in the Alpinestars I wear an XL, and even then it's a little snug. I guess that's a European thing. Go figure. Would I purchase these gloves again .... ABSOLUTELY! Would I recommend them to a friend .... WITHOUT A DOUBT! Oh, one more thing ... these glove are really cool-looking and make you look like you ride better than you really do. Girls find them attractive, too. Just sayin'.

I recommend these gloves for someone who likes a lightweight breathable glove for commuting, the only gripe I have with these gloves is the mesh got caught in the Velcro of the thumb while putting the other glove on and the mesh starts to fray easily. I am on the fence about recommending these because of that, but overall I recommend them, the fraying hasn't proven to be a big deal at all and seems to be holding up well despite that. You have good feeling in these gloves and the knuckle protection seems very good for a short glove.
There is definitely some room for improvement in the design of this glove, but overall after wearing them an entire riding season I can recommend them.

i bought these gloves and i love em, i have noticed that they let a lot of air flow,, good in the heat, but bad in the cold, then again, obviously these aren't winter gloves, if i drive on the freeway at night, my hands do get really cold,

I have to say, These are probably some the best gloves that I have worn. This is indeed my second pair in the SMX-2 series. They fit very well and make riding a pleasure. Since day one, the gloves fit perfect agains my hand, the knuckles didn't rub and the glove felt like it gave me all sensation as if not wearing them. BIG PLUS: I can use my phone wearing the gloves as well, I have an HTC EVO and no problems swiping the keys.

How do these two compare? I'm looking for a pair of street riding gloves but I have long and narrow fingers (8.5" around knuckles, but 8.25" from wrist crease to tip of middle finger). I tried on the FL1 in an XL and liked the length, but was a little wider than ideal for my hand. Is the AStars a good alternative?

No .. you will find them too snug. The Alpinestars aren't for those with ... ummmm ... plump hands. I highly suggest you look at something in the Held glove line since they offer you greater variety of sizing options, including a "Long" option for those with long fingers.
