Very good boot for the price. Very impressed with these boots/shoes. It fits slightly large, I got them in US 10.5, I wear size 11 shoes. The boot came a half size too big. But it's okay, they still fit great, are pretty stylish, and are not bulky, they're very easy to shift with. May 25, 2015
So glad I went smaller than usual. Perfect fit! I am happy with shipping, size, and comfort. I read a review that said " go smaller, they run big". Examples of foot wear I use. I wear a size 11 Nike air max, I run a 10.5 wide dress shoe. I was worried to go a full size smaller, but took a chance. I got a 9.5 or on this a 44. So glad I did! It's perfect! I even have room to wear thick socks! Now if you race a lot, I might get boots with a little more stiffness. But I dive into corners with a hyabusa and they work well for me. And they are pre-broken in for walking in. I am not the guy to mess with reviews, but it's hard for me to buy footwear on line. And after I ordered these, I totally thought I might be returning for a larger size! Brian, ripping up the mountains of maine. May 21, 2015
Great fit and comfort I have been looking for a boot which provides adequate protection for city commuter rider, provides enough airflow during summer heat, ability to wear all day at work with a pair of jeans. Alpinestars S-MX 1 Boots seem to be a good match. Boots are soft and comfortable on the inside, but cautious with sizing as they run larger then normal size. I wear size 10.5 in daily footwear, and had to pickup 9.5 in Alpinestars S-MX 1 Boot. Once you put a boot on, there is a Velcro strap over the top which holds boot in place. I wish Alpinestar put more secure mechanism in place to allow user adjust tightness and fitting of a boot. Color selection for the S-MX1 is relatively weak, its offered in all black, hideous white-black-red and white-black colors. I wish Alpinestar designers provided more color options such as grey, brown etc. In my opinion S-MX1 boot is a good daily rider boot, but has room for improvement. May 18, 2015
AWESOME riding shoe! Bought these for riding the canyon! my feet size is 8 1/2. i normally wear size 9 or 9 1/2 in dress shoes depend on the brand and size 9 in all running shoes. i bought this boot in size 8 and fit perfectly! LOVE THEM SO MUCH! Very comfortable!! i can walk in them all day long! feels like i am walking on air. these boot is a bit on the larger size so make sure you get one size down! They also are a little wider in the front for people with wide feet, like myself. So if you have wide feet, these shoes will make you smile all day! the straps are easy to work with. i hate those shoes string ties. always come loose, with these strap from the s-mx 1 you do not have to worry about a single thing! protection is high! it hold my ankle really well, the structure is great in all area. all these little protective items on the boot adds up. i would recommend this to anyone in a heart beat! ~apologized for my grammar, English my second language. May 18, 2015
Not sure what happened... I bought these and they were perfect for a while... then I'm not sure what exactly happened My guess is I got my feet wet from a pool and then put these one to walk around the house. Then later that day i put them on again and there was some crazy pressure on the big toes. I haven't tried fixing them yet because I have non-summer gear. Other than that, they are super lightweight and generally pretty comfortable. The airflow is great and if you like the tech style, they're great looking. I recommend them, but don't get them wet! May 8, 2015
great multi-purpose shoe! I bought these boots for commuting and casual riding. They look great with a pair of jeans! I find them comfortable enough to put on and wear all day whether running around town on the bike, or if there's a chance I might ride at all. Decent toe box reinforcement doesn't collapse when shifting like sneakers eventually do. I really like the way air moves through the boot when travelling at highway speed or greater. The toe sliders on this model are a bit cheap and snap on and off, kinda wish they were a bit more secure to the toe. I also find that the traction on wet surfaces like sealed concrete or mossy/leaf covered surfaces can be a bit sketchy, watch out for the oil spots around gas pumps. All in all, I'm very happy with these boots! May 7, 2015
Great boot/shoe I just bought my first bike and didn't know what to get for shoe, so I decided on this shoe based on reviews. I absolutely love it. Out of the box I wore an hour or so just to break them in a little so i wouldn't have sore feet after my first ride. They have good breathability, the extra material where the shifter is, is a nice addition. It feels sturdy shifting and just riding. May 4, 2015

Have a few friends that own this shoe, so i was able to try it on. and i must say it is awesome. this for me is perfect for aggressive street riding, and gives me confidence in a laydown or crash situation Nov 29, 2013

Ronald J: Very comfortable to walk in once riding is done. The plastic piece on the toe is strictly decorative. I ride a naked bike so pebbles sometimes get in the low ankles, but they are still good in my opinion. Oct 20, 2013

S T: saw your video review Aug 26, 2013
Rameh E: good reviews on shoes, short, ok for walking, affordable price, good design Aug 23, 2013
Jonathan L: The main reason is the built in features combined with the size. I wear size 14 so I did not want to buy something that was not already made small. The price was a selling point but it was more the style. I like the short boot / shoe style and combined with no laces replacable sliders and the safety features it just seemed like the right choice. Well see how they hold up. Aug 16, 2013

Tu N asked: I had no issues before, but today when I put the shoes on, some kind of metal piece inside the toe area on the upper side were pressing on my toes... I never felt it before. (not sure if leaving them outside has anything to do with it... Please let me know if anyone has this issue?
Thanks.

Ritch G: I have the same problem. For me it's the left foot. The shift pad protector starts bending inward and it's definitely a defect. I have to push on the inside of the shoe upwards and try to work the bend out and when I'm done riding it's back again and my toes hurt. These boots are very comfortable on and off the bike and I'm surprised there's no recall on them. Sep 16, 2013

Charalampos P: Same problem with me! I have 2 pairs of these (all-black and black-white-red), one ~2y old and one ~1y old. The newer pair has the problem on both sides (left&right), the older only one. It feels like the "ceiling" of the boot in the front has collapsed right above the large toe area. It wasn't there in the beginning, as I have ridden extensively with the older pair and several times with the new one.
I effectively cannot wear/ride with those boots any more. I tried to squeeze it back inside but it's too hard and the location (tip of the shoe) too narrow to do anything drastic.
Surprises me too they didn't recall those as this is a definite defect on their end! Bought the 2nd pair here with Revzilla last October.
Any advice? I'm very frustrated as I love those boots otherwise. I'm about to contact Alpinestars Customer Care directly too.

Dear valued customer,
Thanks for contacting Alpinestars and for riding with us.
Alpinestars products support office has been informed.

The boots can be fixed, but we understand that this is not a simple repair. In order to fix this is necessary to warm the boots up and put them back on their last.
My understanding is that you cannot contact the dealer where the boots were purchased from, however this is what we normally suggest.
On the other hand you might have the boots double checked by our Distributor- (...) - as this is our local Product Repair and Warranty center for Products in Greece-

Best regards,
S.D.

A shopper asked: I'm looking for a street book like the A* SMX-1. I wear size 13 and my foot runs a bit wide. What boots/sizing would you recommend? Mar 24, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
jettamkv21: I bought the 46 (11.5) even though i usually where a 12-12.5 depending of the type of shoe. They fit snug in the wide area of the foot at first but broke in nicely. and are a little loose at the top of the boot. i'd say go with the 48 (12.5) and if they are just way too tight and you don't think they'd break in enough for your foot send em back for the 49 (13.5) and run a little loose. Just don't wear them outside or on the bike and leave the tags on. Walk around the house a bit to get a feel for them. like they say they do the first exchange/return for free. Hope this helps May 22, 2012

starionrst2: I wear 11 comfortably and 10.5 with some pressure on the toes in most Nike shoes ... I got the SMX-1 size 10.5 US (45 EU) and they feel great. I put em on and walked around in them all day and no discomfort at all. I tend to think my foot is a little wider than normal, so I was worried if that would be an issue with the SMX-1, but it was a perfect fit. Plus they do wear in a little bit...so walk around in them for like an hour and see how you like them... So iin your case, go for the 12.5US (48EU)...if not you can always exchange them... Good luck. Maxilou: Width should not be a problem, my foot is kinda wide and mine fit fine. The general rule for sizing is to find your size on the Euro/American transition chart and get a size smaller, I did it and mine fit perfectly. I strongly recommend these boots, comfortable and lots of great features. They look really cool too (not important for most but looking dorky ain't cool!) Mar 26, 2012

zivbenster: Both Rev'it and TCX shoes that i've tried run large- so you can try there.
also check the RevZilla Touring and Commuting Boots review-

To see Anthony's description of the shoe sizes.

Sarge: I have a wide foot also and have no problem with this boot, they fit great. As for size, you'll probably need a 47 (if you're usually a 48). Jun 25, 2012

SineNomine: Probably the EUR 47 (US 12) - I wear a 10.5 and I ordered a whole size down (9.5) and it is still just a tad loose. Mar 31, 2012

A shopper asked: Does the S-MX1 have a "hard" lower shin protection and "hard" ankle protection. Can you kindly please add more to the description regarding safety? Oct 3, 2011
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
starionrst2: Not too much lower shin protection, however it will definitely be better than a sneaker. Its more like a construction boot level of protection but a lot more comfortable and lightweight....Ankle protection is pretty good, I mean if you take a fall in these guys in will definitely be better than in sneakers or boots...
I feel safe when I ride in these and the comfort is great.

AliB: There is no hard shin protection on this low-cut boot. On the ankle bone, there is an External TPU "hard" protector. If you are looking for better protection, we recommend taking a look at the Alpinestars S-MX 5 Boot or the Alpinestars S-MX R Boots. Oct 14, 2011

GSXR750ALLDAY: THE SMX1'S DO NOT HAVE A "HARD" SHIN PROTECTION HOWEVER THE ANKLE PROTECTION SEEMS TO BE GOOD ENOUGH. HEY MOST RIDERS RIDE WITH SNEAKERS ANYWAYS.. I HAVE A PAIR OF SMX1'S AND WEAR THEM EVERY DAY. I LIKE THEM ALOT AND AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE. Feb 27, 2012

Maxilou: Mesh up the front to the top where the velcro secure strap is. There is a hard ankle protector and removable/replaceable toe slide. There is also hard heel protection on the rear of the boot. Great boots, I wish I had bought them a long time ago! Mar 26, 2012
Reply to Maxilou Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
jettamkv21: No for the shins and no for the ankle, just the TPU piece on the outer ankle. only real "Hard" protection is the heel cup, toe slider and the stiff sole of the boot. May 22, 2012

Red7139: Just bought these. The answers are no. The "hard" protection is in the heels and that's about it. The soles feel pretty durable too. May 7, 2012

Pat S asked: How does this boot fit on a wider foot? Mar 23, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Donald R: Although my feet are most likely average in width, there is quite a bit of room in my boots. I do believe these boots would be fine for a wider foot. Great boots, I have Sidi racing boots for the track, but love these boots for running around the street! Mar 23, 2014

Javier V: I am 6'1" and have wide feet. They fit great. A little snug at first but they break in after 2-3 rides. Now they feel like regular tennis shoes. I can walk all day in them with no problem. I am a size 13 and purchased size 13. Mar 23, 2014

Matthew S: Honestly they're kind of narrow. They fit me well, and I don't buy wide any kind of shoes. If you require a wide in normal shoes these may not be best. Mar 23, 2014

Moustafa K asked: are these boots waterproof ? Oct 7, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
James L: See manufacturer and product listing for materials. I would not consider these waterproof but they would likely keep your feet dry unless riding in heavy rain for an extended time. These are great boots and are comfortable to walk in and breathe well, which are the main reasons I bought these. Oct 7, 2014

Jeff T: i have not used these in the rain or wet but from what the material feels like, they do not appear to be very water resistant.

my opinion, if there was a puddle or splash, i would not be to worried.

if it is raining? i would def not wear these.

A shopper asked: I am looking for something to use as a daily ride so do not want a full length boot. I also want something that will be tall enough to tuck my leathers into during recreational track days. Will the S-MX1 boot be tall enough to tuck leathers into or would I need to go to the taller S-MX2? Sep 26, 2011
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Maxilou: About the same hight as a regular hiking boot, leathers probably won't stay tucked, but they would be good as an every day rider. I wear running socks with them for more padding when I know I'm going to have them for long periods of time. Mar 26, 2012
Reply to Maxilou Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Mbrowne: I have both pairs and the smx2 is definately taller and better for tucking your leathers into. Would advise you order a size under your regular size as they fit big and wide. Jan 17, 2012
Reply to Mbrowne Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Stevan P: The SMX-1 and SMX-2 are pretty short and there might not enough material above the ankle to really tuck in leathers or pants. We'd suggest a higher boot for race leathers. Oct 19, 2011
Reply to Stevan Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
ninjabt: I would go taller. Unless your leathers are tight around your feet, the boots zip up to tight for anything to be tucked in comfortably. Mar 9, 2013

A shopper asked: Hi im trying to get my first pair of boots. Im looking into the alpinenestars s-mx1 boots. Im kind of confused when it come to sizing, i usually wear a 7.5-8 depending on shoe on my shoes the euro size says 40. Now on the usa size chart says 7.5 is 39 eu, 8 is 40 euro and on the euro chart 40 is 6.5us....41 7.5 us...and 42 is 8...im really confused if some can please help me with this decision and i should pick by euro size or what??...thanks in advance May 5, 2015

Jim W: Not sure if this helps but I normally wear a 9-9 1/2 depending on the shoe. I tried these on and found the 9 1/2 to be too big. I ended up with a 9 u.s., 43 euro. I also wear thin socks with these shoes so keep sock thickness in mind. May 5, 2015

A shopper asked: I wear a size 16 tennis shoe (Vans to be specific) and am having a hard time finding riding shoes that will fit me. I was told these and the MX2 model run a bit larger than normal shoe sizes. Will the Euro size 50 fit? Sep 17, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
zivbenster: The shoes run about 1 Euro size larger, so where i usually fit 43 pretty snugly (actually i look for 43.5 where possible) these 43 are more like rev'it 44.
another thing is that if your feet arent too wide- you could possibly unlace them all the way to make them even looser.

all in all- nothing beats trying them on!

RevZilla: If the boot is facing you, pull the slider towards you where it says "pull." After that all you have to do is slide the piece to the side and it should come off no problem. Keep in mind that the pulling portion takes a little bit of elbow grease. Aug 21, 2012

Kevin M: Carmen, pry up (with a wide flat edge such as a screwdriver)where it says lift here. Then simply slide the slider forward. May 9, 2013
