Hasn't worked out so well The idea of this shoe is excellent. A motorcycle shoe that looks like a shoe, but is waterproof and offers a certain level of heel protection. The execution, however, I'm not so sure about. I have always had good experiences with Alpinestars products, but this one fails. My intended purpose for this shoe, whether it was really designed for this or not, is to have an all day shoe that starts on the motorcycle, continues at work, and ends after the commute back home. Unfortunately, It's not that simple. Do not expect to be able to wear these as regular shoes and last any length of time. The tread depth on the bottom is shallow. To be fair, maybe they weren't designed to be used this way, but after only a few weeks of daily wear, the tread on the bottom in critical areas is gone and the sole is too slippery for the shoe to be useful. The actual body of the shoe has held up very well, but because the sole is slick in spots, they're useless now. Are they actually waterproof? Yes. In absolute downpours they are truly waterproof. They are also comfortably warm in the winter, but are too hot to wear in alabama summer. However, even though they are waterproof, I can't use them in the rain because they're simply too slick. Slick enough that I've almost fallen when putting my foot down on wet pavement. If that's not bad enough, they don't grip wet metal pegs at all. It doesn't help that they don't have a heel. They do grip rubber pegs, but only slightly better. What's the point in having a waterproof shoe if it can't grip in wet conditions? "Well, what if you had not worn them out and only worn them on the bike? Would you like them then?" Even when they were brand new and the sole wasn't slick they didn't grip very well. So, no. Maybe if they had a normal shoe sole, they would be acceptable, but for now it's a 100% FAIL. Like I said, I do like Alpinestars products. This is the only problem I have ever had with Alpinestars and I now commute to work in Toucan boots and change into shoes when I get to work. If I could get something like this that would function both as a shoe and a motorcycle shoe and ACTUALLY WORKED, I would buy it. There are good points to these shoes, but nothing redeems them. This shoe looks better in person than it does in the picture. It is also very comfortable. If you use it only for the bike and you have rubber pegs, it'll probably be fine for you. May 12, 2014
Alpinestars are the best! Finally a high quality sneaker for riding. Everyone knows that Alpinestars has been an industry standard for all motorcycle boots/shoes (MX & Street) forever, so it's no shock that I love this sneaker. The WPJoey has been classified as a shoe and it's not, it's a sneaker and that's what's so great about it! It's waterproof, it has a sturdy feel to it (more like a shoe, especially around the ankle) and it looks very similar to the canvas Converse sneakers I've been wearing for years. The ventilation is exactly what any experienced motorcycle rider would expect from waterproof foot gear, which is not as good as non waterproof foot gear. Get the regular Joey if you want a more breathable sneaker. The bottom line, every other company that puts out a sneaker type product has failed to make them look like sneakers. They always look goofy and weird, like some funky shoe/sneaker hybrid and have little to no protection at all. If you want foot gear for real riding, road trips etc... then get boots. If you want a casual, extremely cool looking waterproof sneaker with decent support that you can wear around town like a real sneaker, then the Alpinestars WP Joey is it. And remember, it's Alpinestars, an industry leader in motorcycle foot gear, so it costs a little more but it's worth it. April 21, 2014
Good protection, great value, modern style. This shoe is good for riding around town, providing you with some modicum of protection while maintaing a casual look. Obviously not for track days or hard riding, but gets the job done and is reasonably priced. April 7, 2014
Great fitting boot that is true to its size Out of the box this is a great fitting boot, it does look a little big but that is just the extra padding and waterproof layers, it does fit true to it's size for shoe size. It is a very comfortable boot, a little stiff so will take some breaking in until it can be worn as an every day shoe like advertised but definitely could be. It has good air flow but your feet will get a little toasty if you are just sitting around from all the extra layers. Has good protection all around from what I can feel of the extra padding. Have not tested their waterproofness yet but from all the layering they feel like they'll do the job. I definitely recommend this boot for someone who needs something for waterproof or just an everyday riding boot without getting a full on riding boot such as race boots - this coming from an every day commuter. Not Bad! I really like the look. They fit in well with my lifestyle. My office is a casual environment so I can rock em all day. Like Anthony says, the flexible sole and lack of armor should prevent them from being the choice for aggressive riding. In-town duty and the scooter scene are perfect for these boots. I am planning a weekend ride and feel confident with the waterproofing feature. I hope they are not too hot, based on other reviews! February 20, 2014
Good Product Despite Problems I normally wear an 11.5 in street shoes, the Aplinestars 11 fit perfect. The shoe is well formed and nice and stiff without being too stiff. I did not like the welt (bottom edges) being "distressed" and didn't notice that in the pics. I can dirty up my own shoes, thanks kindly. In the rain they were certainly waterproof; I rode in the rain at least 5 different times, 50-70mi at a time. I wear these shoes daily, all day, so I managed to kill them pretty early. Within 3mo a rip formed on the left outside along the seam and it kept growing. I'm getting a new set through a friend who is connected with Aplinestars US; there was no way to repair them. Remember, I wore these as my only shoes. Riding, hiking on broken terrain, working, wrenching, etc. It was a true torture test so they may not fail under more moderate use (there aren't hiking boots after all). The other downside is to be expected: sweat. These shoes are waterproof so they do not breath. On days in the 80's or above they are pretty sweaty, though not uncomfortable. I also did not like the tread. It provides little grip on wet concrete/tile/grass, and was showing obvious signs of wear after a few months of heavy use. I still recommend this shoe if you are not going to expect as much of it as I did. It fits well, is not heavy, and will stay on your feet in a crash, unlike sneakers. They have all day comfort and the Aplinestars panel on the side does not contrast with the body of the shoe nearly as much as the photos. If you want to wear them in the summer, consider the non-waterproof version. As for bang-for-the-buck, I cannot compare them except to shoes that are a step up in features like the TCX X-Square, which are styled like a Formula 1 shoe. Apples/oranges. There might be better shoes for the price, but if this is the one you like, get it. February 18, 2014
Good shoe for around town. This shoe works great for what I bought it for, which is rides around town and to work. Its comfortable enough to ware all day so I don't have to bring a change of shoes. They are stiffer than the skate shoes I was riding in before, but the protection on the ankle was a little flimsier than I thought it would be. Also, the top of the tongue digs into my ankle after 4 or 5 hours but I think it will ware in better. Over all, great shoe for what i bought it for. Definitely happy with them. February 17, 2014
Great style for a protective shoe They look great. So much so that I wish they were a little more comfortable so I could wear them even when I'm not riding. They are a little stiff, but they are still new. I'm pretty sure they will break in nicely like my other alpinestar products. October 28, 2013

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
F H: My regular street shoes were getting torn from shifting. Although these shoes don't really have any additional protection against the shifter, its nice to have a dedicated pair of Moto shoes for the town. Jun 12, 2014
Elwyn W: stylish street shoe with protection in minor spills May 16, 2014
Joseph P: Least ridiculous looking sneakers of everything on offer. Apr 30, 2014
Apolinario N: I wanted a riding shoe that would appear like a normal shoe for street wear while off the bike. A friend had recommended the ones made by Cortech, but I kept reading negative reviews on them. Then I found this one on the site and while it was more expensive, all the reviews were favorable. I'm wearing them right now and they are very comfortable. Mar 3, 2014
D A: Nice style, waterproof, perfect to use in the city after ride Sep 23, 2013
steve s: Love my joes comfy on the bike and off great feel good with good control water tight and look good to and run true to size the best every day riding shoe i have bought Aug 23, 2013
A shopper asked: Is it just me or does the white section of the sole look a little bit dark in some sections? Like its done on purpose? Oct 29, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Peter J: Not sure it's on purpose however after a few rides there will be normal stains from the road.

These are comfortable riding sneakers with ankle support for those days when boots won't do.

Hope this helps.

Philip H: Yes, it is supposed to look worn in and a bit dirty I suppose. A little silly if you ask me, but the alternative – stark white – might look a little silly as well. At any rate, it looks pretty authentically grungy in real life. Oct 29, 2013

mohd h: Ya.. I know.. at first I thought it was pure white.. but after I bought it.. yes theres some dark spots.. but its nice.. it make the shoe look like its been season/use always rather than a brand new look.. Oct 29, 2013

robi s: correct, its a more like a dirty grey that wont clean to white. its almost a marble like apearance.

if it was a true white, it would look like this dirty gray after riding for a while

Matthew L asked: Is the tongue stitched up to the top, like a gaiter type? It mentions a waterproof liner, but I'm trying to figure out if the tongue is attached all the way up. Sep 26, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Sean M: Hey Matthew,

I've had these all riding season this year and have done roughing 4000km in them.

The tongue isn't stitched up to the top. The tongue is only stitched up until the second last eyelet from the top, after that its free floating.

The waterproof lining is baked into the shoe which is great, but makes the shoe pretty warm.

I've actually stood in 2-3 inch puddles with these shoes and my feet stay dry and toasty :)

Here are a few photos of my shoes currently. tried to show you the liner the best I could.

Brandon R: Yes its similar to Carhart work boots. It doesn't go all the way to the very top if the tongue but its close. When tired tight the overlapping leather makes it waterproof. The only problem I had was if your socks get wet above the ankle it will soak down into the shoe and because they don't breath they will stay wet. But this was a complete downpour when it happened. Overall I would recommend these. Sep 26, 2013

Kymberleigh B: The water proof liner stops approximately 1 1/2" from the top of the shoe. This is the same for the tongue seal as it is all one liner. The tongue is attached to the shoe from the bottom up to just bellow the second eye loop from the top. I wear my Joey WP's often. They are a perfect blend of comfort and support. Sep 27, 2013
Reply to Kymberleigh Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
robi s: the tongue is attached near the top - its stitching intersects just below the second eyelet from the top, any higher and you'd have difficulty putting them on. I can attest they are indeed waterproof.

ps the white sides of soles are an intentional dirty looking grayish-white

A shopper asked: How slippery is the sole on wet surfaces? Nov 26, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
reginald H: I have had zero issues with a slippery sole on wet surfaces. The Joey wp is a way better shoe for comfort compared to the regular Joey too. I have both of them and would only buy the Wp version again. The sole on the wp is very durable and is lasting longer than I expected. I would recommend wp and doubt you will be disappointed. A s: Really can't answer. Never wore the shoes in rain or on a wet surface. I like the fit, feeland look of the shoe and am entirely satisfied with the purchase-- as I am as well with the jacket I purchased at the same time. Thanks Nov 26, 2013

A shopper asked: How true is the sizing? I have a wider foot so depending on the shoe width I can wear a 10 1/2, 11 or 11 1/2. Should I order all 3 sizes then return the sizes that don't fit? Jun 5, 2014

Stephen F: I also have wide feet and had never before purchased shoes without trying them first.

I usually wear UK size 10 1/2 and ordered European size 45.

They fit perfectly

Kennon C: They are about true to fit, they aren't narrow but they aren't an E ether. I wear a 10 1/2 or an 11 in most shoes, Vans or Nikes, and a 10 1/2 fit me well. Jun 5, 2014

mims r: The logo letters do not stand out. The letters are of the same material and color so you have to be looking hard to see them. I like that! Now, the hi-viz yellow laces are another thing. Don't worry, there are black laces that come in the box too. May 20, 2014
