Alpinestars GP Plus R Leather Jacket
Stylish, thick, and protective
I decided to splurge on an expensive leather jacket that I planned to keep for years. I love the styling of Alpinestars and so, I went with this...non perforated, because I have mesh jackets for blazing hot SoCal heat. I wanted something secure, yet fitted with all the right lines and stylings that I look for in my riding gear. I'm not dissapointed in the overall package...the armor feels substantial (though you'd have to upgrade the back from the temper-foam they give you) and the leather is thick...really THICK. This jacket takes a while to break in, and feels a bit cumbersome when all is said and done. It's a bit heavy and I HATE the main zipper... I'm surprised I haven't read a review yet of how often the flap between the zipper gets stuck...because it happens to me almost 50% of the time I'm zipping up...and it's irritating to fix. The arm zippers are nice, but they're built for the scrawniest of wrists and won't stay zipped down with any gloves, unless you stretch the openings out (tennis balls were recommended). The jacket feels great when riding, but feels heavy and all over the place when you're out and about off the bike. Still, you get some great material, design, and function out if this jacket. I recommend it, even if you go into rage mode every time you try to zip up!

65,000 miles and still holding!!
Alright so I don't like to review any product under 2,000 miles and this one is for sure over due! All I can say it this jacket is spectacular. Fit is pretty good. I'm awkward at 155 lbs and 6'3". Basically a bean pole. But I went with a euro size of 50 and aside from slightly short sleeves this thing fits great. Chest size is a little large large though, enough room for a riding vest underneath, or standalone with the upgrade chest and back protector. After literally 65,000 miles in all conditions it is still standing up great! You will get cold/wet in the rain as this isn't waterproof, and during a 110° Arizona summer, a cooling vest is in order. But that shouldn't come a surprise as it's not a perf jacket. Winter at 20-30° is manageable as long as you have a decent layer underneath. To be honest the shoulder vents do almost nothing for airflow. Zippers have held fine, although the velcro on the cuff is starting to become slightly ineffective. Only from constant changing from a hoodie underneath to a tee-shirt. Yet after 2 years of everyday use and tens of thousands of miles this jacket is for sure a winner!!! I tried to add photos but my phone won't allow me. I'm sure you can image what a leather jacket looks like after so much use!

Very comfortable, great build quality, excellent protection. I think it's a pretty good looking jacket too.
I recommend the back and chest protectors. The fit of the jacket is great with the protectors. The actual pockets that hold them are a bit chintzy, but I have yet to see a jacket w/ really nice pockets for the protectors.
The zipper being on the other side of the zip takes a little getting used to.

This jacket is the most expensive apparel I ever owned (it even costs more than my suit) - but, it really is a fantastically well made product. It feels sturdy, looks great, fits nicely. I've been putting it off for a while now, couldn't really justify the price - but I'm glad I gave in and got it in the end. I'm planing to have it for a really long time.

Great fit, great style, excellent protection.
I've been a fan of the Alpinestars GP-plus for years now, and first started wearing one about 7-8 years ago (I think thats how long it's been). The one I've been wearing needed to be retired, I live in Seattle so it was exposed to a lot of rain as I ride year-round so the leather was stiff, and the zippers were starting to malfunction. The prior one was sized at 50 (EU). I'm 5'11" 175lb, and my measurements were right on the cusp of 48 and 50, on the 48 side, so I bought a 48 this time around. The jacket arrived quickly after ordering, and tried it on... and it was tight (as in snug). Ridiculously tight.
I called the customer service guys at RevZilla and spoke to a girl that knew her s**t. She told me the sizing was correct based off of the measurements I gave her, suggested that I give it a week, wear it daily and as often as I can, just don't ride with it or I can't exchange it for a different size or jacket. I did just that, and over a week the leather stretched, and it now feels like a body glove with a perfect fit. (I don't wear the armor FYI) Very pleased with my purchase and RevZilla customer service.
Pro-tip: the wrists are stupid tight, zip the wrists up and put a tennis ball at the wrist end for 24 hours to stretch the leather, and you won't have to deal with uncomfortable wrists for the first couple weeks.
Also, living in Seattle and seeing as it rains all the time, I use a rain jacket over the GP-plus when I know it's gonna be nasty, but when I accidentally get caught in a random rain shower, the fabric on the inside of the arms soaks right though. Use NikWax to seal it, it won't leave a film, looks the same as when you bought it, and water beads and falls right off of it.

Awesome protection for design.
For a leather jacket price point, IMO this jacket falls in the medium high range. However, the quality build, features, and protections are well worth. It fits snuggly I would say, but after a while, it feels better, more comfortably. Color composition looks great, both for the Blue/Black or White/Red.
Highly recommend for riders who both wants to commute with it, or start to have track days with a 2 pieces leather suits.

Good protection but not super comfortable.
I bought this jacket to replace my old A-star "something something air flow". Ridden with it a few times in colder weather(45-60 degrees). It seems to let some air through but not so much that it cant be worn during colder months. Feels like a very race driven jacket tight and shaped into a riding position not very good for off the bike comfort. I don't know how comfortable it will be during summer with a tee on. Feels like there are pressure point all through out the jacket kind of uncomfortable with just a tee. I bought true to size and it still feels a little tight. If your looking for something a with a little less air flow, good protection, and a racing look this is the jacket. If your looking for comfort i would look else where.

Awesome Jacket. BUT, if you wear a backpack frequently you may want to consider another jacket.
This is my first jacket I have purchased, so I don't have anything to compare to, but I will still give my thoughts. This is an awesome jacket, so don't let my minor nuances scare you away from it. I bought the non perforated version because I am cold blooded, and would rather be too hot than too cold. I debated between this and the Celer jacket, but decided to go with this because it didn't have the back hump, and I wear a backpack a lot. Looking back on it, the extra airflow may have been nicer than a slightly uncomfortable backpack, because the 2 zippered vents by the shoulders are covered by the backpack straps when I wear it. So when it is really hot, I dread wearing a backpack with this jacket. If alpinestars added a few additional zipper vents, I would give it a 10/10. That being said, I still love it! It looks great, and offers great protection. I added the bionic back armor, and it works perfectly. It actually seems to vent a little better with it because it lifts the jacket slightly off of your skin. The left handed zipper takes a bit to get used to, and still throws me off sometimes. (I am left handed, go figure). It includes both sides of the 3/4 zipper, if you have pants that you want to pair it with. Just take it to a tailor and have them attach it to the pants. I got the white/red version, so the white gets a little dirty, but I use Meguiar's leather wipes from Autozone and they work great to clean it! I am a tall skinny fella, (5'11", 150 lbs) and I got the 42/52. My torso probably would have fit a little better in a 40/50, but the arms would have been too short. Plus it gave me the option to put a thin layer underneath for the cold weather. I wear Spidi full cuff gloves, and sometimes the sleeve zippers will cause a pressure point if you tighten the gloves too tight. That's not a problem anymore since I realized that was the cause. Overall, the quality of the jacket is great. I have put about 3000 miles on it and it still looks almost new. No stitching has come apart whatsoever.
Well, there you have it. More information about a jacket than you will ever need. Maybe If I paid this much attention to my girlfriend, I wouldn't need to go riding all the time to burn off stress. Eh... I'll stick with riding!
