Awesome Jacket. BUT, if you wear a backpack frequently you may want to consider another jacket.
This is my first jacket I have purchased, so I don't have anything to compare to, but I will still give my thoughts. This is an awesome jacket, so don't let my minor nuances scare you away from it. I bought the non perforated version because I am cold blooded, and would rather be too hot than too cold. I debated between this and the Celer jacket, but decided to go with this because it didn't have the back hump, and I wear a backpack a lot. Looking back on it, the extra airflow may have been nicer than a slightly uncomfortable backpack, because the 2 zippered vents by the shoulders are covered by the backpack straps when I wear it. So when it is really hot, I dread wearing a backpack with this jacket. If alpinestars added a few additional zipper vents, I would give it a 10/10. That being said, I still love it! It looks great, and offers great protection. I added the bionic back armor, and it works perfectly. It actually seems to vent a little better with it because it lifts the jacket slightly off of your skin. The left handed zipper takes a bit to get used to, and still throws me off sometimes. (I am left handed, go figure). It includes both sides of the 3/4 zipper, if you have pants that you want to pair it with. Just take it to a tailor and have them attach it to the pants. I got the white/red version, so the white gets a little dirty, but I use Meguiar's leather wipes from Autozone and they work great to clean it! I am a tall skinny fella, (5'11", 150 lbs) and I got the 42/52. My torso probably would have fit a little better in a 40/50, but the arms would have been too short. Plus it gave me the option to put a thin layer underneath for the cold weather. I wear Spidi full cuff gloves, and sometimes the sleeve zippers will cause a pressure point if you tighten the gloves too tight. That's not a problem anymore since I realized that was the cause. Overall, the quality of the jacket is great. I have put about 3000 miles on it and it still looks almost new. No stitching has come apart whatsoever.

Well, there you have it. More information about a jacket than you will ever need. Maybe If I paid this much attention to my girlfriend, I wouldn't need to go riding all the time to burn off stress. Eh... I'll stick with riding!

Premium Quality
I have used this jacket since July 2014. The leather breaks in quickly. Based on build quality I expect this jacket to serve me for many miles. The zippers and lining are well made. Very comfortable. It is heavy, but all quality leather jackets are (I think the weight is indicative of the thickness of the leather = protection). Armor stays in place and the back padding can be upgraded. Chest padding is also included.

I live in NC and the summer can be very hot and humid. I purchased this jacket to provide exceptional protection in the event of an accident while allowing ample air flow. Air flow is tremendous. I admit it does get warm in the 95 to 100 deg F range, but bearable while moving.

I am 6' tall with a 44" chest and 35" sleeve (measured from the neck) and the 44 US 54 EURO size I purchased does not allow much more than a long sleeve t shirt without feeling extremely tight. Useful for me in the temperature range 48 to 95 degrees F. This jacket meets all my expectations.

AMAZING Jacket
One of the best purchases I made this year....
I live in freezing $%^&ing Minnesota, USA and ride from early spring until the tires refuse to grip anymore due to the cold in November. I'm 6-4", and about 195 pounds. Lanky with long arms and broad shoulders. The Alpine Stars GP Plus R I ordered was in size 54 but was a bit snug, especially around the biceps, so I exchanged it for a 56. Fit like it was made for me. Formed to my body. Looks INCREDIBLE!!!! I rode when it was 40 degrees out and didn't feel a thing, I was also wearing AlpineStars gauntlet gloves with Gortex (Also ordered from Rev). AlpineStars has always made excellent products. And, as always, Revzilla's customer service was fantastic. I would buy again if I had a time machine.

I would highly recommend this jacket!
At this price point I think this is one of the best jackets on the market. It has C.E. level 1 in the elbows and shoulders. I would recommend buying the bionic air back protector and chest pads which are also C.E. level 1. The back protector is light and comfortable I barley know it's there, it's easy to install. Chest pads are also comfortable, the install is not quite as easy but I wouldn't say it was hard. You don't want to be caught in a bad situation with that flimsy foam that comes with the jacket. The jacket is super comfortable, it doesn't restrict me when I'm riding. With the vents on the shoulder open it flows quite a bit of air it's definitely noticeable. This is a good looking jacket alpinestars did a great gob designing the aesthetics. This thing has a ton of pockets it has two on the outside with zippers, it has the waterproof one on the inside left chest, then it has three with Velcro also on the inside.

Aggressive look, well designed, great buy!
This was my first jacket, and I am extremely happy with both the product and the outstanding service Revzilla provides. Ordered it on a wednesday at 2pm and received it the following day at noon. The jacket is true to its size and the size chart provided by revzilla. I ordered the black/white size 40/50 and it fits great. I am 5'8" and 155 lbs. I've been wearing the jacket for over 2 weeks now and I have no complaints whatsoever. The vents provide good ventilation, though it can still get a bit hot in traffic in the summer, but I rather be hot and well protected. It is an aggressive looking jacket which matches the aggresive look of my black CBR600rr graffiti edition. I've gotten many compliments already by friends and other riders. Highly recommend it. 2 Thumbs up Alpinestars and Revzilla!

GREAT jacket - just a few minor gripes
This review is for the non-perforated version, so I cannot comment on the airflow through the perforated one. This one doesn't have a lot of airflow but that's expected.

The jacket does not come with real armor - the included foam pads are "comfort" pads only. You'll want to add a back protector and chest armor to get the most protection. Having done that, I can say that the armor "disappears", even when wearing a backpack. I don't notice it at all.

I'm a tall guy with long, skinny arms. This jacket is better tailored to me than most of my clothes, motorcycle-related or not. This feels like a custom fit, no joke. I love it. The jacket leather has a high-quality look and feel, enough so that I enjoy looking at it on the hanger! The leather smell is really very nice, too.

With a proper fit, plus chest armor, the inside pocket will allow one thin wallet, or a smartphone (not recommended). Any more than that and you've got a sore chest after a one hour ride, most likely, unless you buy the jacket a little loose.

The three snaps on the inside of the back panel are for attaching the jacket to a strap-on back protector. If you are not using one of those, then the snaps threaten to punch holes in your skin if you crash and land right on them. Surprisingly, they don't bother me at all, even with a backpack on while riding. Still, I filled them in with hot glue to keep from having a line of core samples along my backbone if the worst happens. The hot glue "plugs" can be easily removed later if desired.

This jacket pairs nicely with the Alpinestars Track Leather Pants. Zipping them together is fairly easy with the 270 degree zip.

I have received a LOT of compliments on this jacket (black/white/red).

Great Jacket for a decent price. While there are cheaper options out there, this jacket keeps me warm in cold and cool in the heat
Although this is my first jacket, I have to say I am thoroughly pleased with this purchase. Rode through 50 degree weather and it kept me warm. During the day, rode in 80-85 degree weather and it was still decently cool (with the air flow areas open).

Only item (which isn't an issue) is the zipper is on the left side.. most jackets I've ever worn they are on the right.

Two words... Buy it.
So I've tried out quite a few jackets and full suits this last season but one I've been debating getting as I fell in love with it at first sight was the Alpinestars Celer. I did have a chance to try it on and use it but I'm not reviewing the Celer... This is for the GP Plus R. Well when I saw the new GP plus R it was a tough decision... Do I get the GP plus R, a Celer of my own, or maybe a Dainese Laguna Seca?

Style: I wound up choosing the GP plus R in off-white with red (Despite all the non-riding girls I showed my choices to picking the red or black and red Celer at first glance) and I have ZERO buyers remorse on my choice! Seeing it on me those same girls gave me lots of compliments, the pictures don't do it justice. It should be mentioned that this jacket is not "pure" white but instead has almost a very subtle two tone white which includes off-white or eggshell. At first I thought this could be a problem but as soon as I opened the box I felt like a kid during Christmas! Stunning! It definitely leans on the side of tech inspired and has a little more edge in the lines. So for styling I feel like Alpinestars has moved lightyears ahead this season from last (I had the chance to buy last years GP off a buddy for $200 and didn't even entertain the idea). Nice job a*stars!

Comfort: sizing is very accurate based on the a*stars size chart and I had a Revzilla staff member also give me their opinion based on my measurements provided by my tailor at no charge which I recommend doing because size does matter. I'm 6'1", 180ish lbs, and it fits perfectly. I also bought the bionic air insert which is held in under interior liner by four seemingly flimsy but well placed Velcro tabs that do the job. There are also three buttons that stick out which seem to allow a compatible a*stars race or maybe CEII rated back armor. My concern with these is will they collapse or cause more damage if I go down and hit my back? Something to think about maybe. Actually one of the most comfortable sport jackets I've owned to date. The stance is not too aggressive however there is interior armor and you'll feel it in there but nothing of discomfort for me. I feel like this is the best blend of a track/street style sport jacket. One thing that has bothered me on a small scale is the neck of the jacket. At first I thought my helmet strap was on too tight and quickly realized that the front of the neck on the jacket was protruding into my neck and could be correctly by pulling down on the front of the jacket. Not a big deal but I find myself doing it on occasion. Something else I haven't quite figured out is which gloves to pair this with... The GP Plus gauntlets seem to have a hard time going over the cuff of the sleeves.

Air flow: The flow control system seems to work well as I left the zippers open during 80 degree weather here in San Diego but my Ducati reaches 220 degrees at lights so if I lived in a hotter city I would highly reconsider buying the perforated version of this jacket. Riding at night in temps of 65 degrees I thanked myself for sticking to all leather this time around.

Features: I think I covered a fair amount of these and for the price you get pretty much everything you could imagine plus more! Remember, I could have bought the Celer or something more expensive and didn't. Maybe if I was in track attack mode I would buy the Celer but do yourself a favor and pick this one up. You'll look and feel great in it.

Alpinestars GP Plus R Leather Jacket is a very nice jacket
Alpinestars GP Plus R Leather Jacket:
Overall the jacket is very nice. What I like about it is too long to list so I'm going to be very picky and write about the minor things I don't like:

1. The zipper is reversed. You have to use your left hand to pull it up.

2. The lining is just a tiny but longer than the leather on the sleeves. (I mean really small) The problem is that if your gloves have Velcro exposed, it may snag the lining a bit.

3. My other leather jackets and race suits have no collar and I am used to moving my head side to side very freely. It takes some getting used to the collar on this jacket. Might not be a problem if your previous jackets have collars.

That's my honest review. Hope it helps regardless of your decision.

Good Jacket fairly comfortable
This jacket is super nice while out on a ride. But it does get pretty toasty in with some warmer weather. That said its tolerable long as you got some wind on you. Off the bike the jacket for me is just a tad uncomfortable in the elbows because of the armor. Overall a good price and it can always be zipped up to make a race suit which I will be doing at some point before I buy a full suit.

I ride a cruiser, but like the style, look and protection that race gear offers. The jacket fits like a glove. Had to send the first jacket to Alpinestars. Protection pockets were sewn in incorrectly; they didn't cup my shoulder or elbow. Alpinestars replaced the jacket. New jacket's pockets feel slightly off centered but better. When ordering this jacket I would personally take a deep breath in, hold it while measuring my chest and go with that size, if you want a little play in the jacket.

A great all around jacket. Can be zipped into pants for a track day or just a casual ride. The ventilation isn't that great and the zippered vents don't work well because the inside mesh impedes the zipper's movement.

I purchased this due to the reputation and testing of alpinestar gear. I almost went with the icon leather jacket but chose this instead because of its clean look.

I was choosing a Bday gift for my boyfriend. I want him to be safe, but he gets too hot wearing jackets. I was concerned the leather may be too warm. I watched the video you had online and liked the vetilation options. I also liked the pads that can be upgraded for the back and chest. I also like the Alpinestars brand and reputation, so I wanted to go with that brand.

I needed a good leather and I loved the red and white version. More visible in any light than black

Does this jacket allow for a zip in liner as older models did?
A shopper on Aug 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: No you cannot zip in another liner.
What are the 3 snaps on the interior back of the jacket for?
A shopper on Jul 19, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The snaps are for the Alpinestars Bionic Air Back Protector, but you can also use the Bio Armor back protector that replaces the foam insert sales for 29.99.

The buttons on the inside where the back protecter goes do they hit ur back when the back protecter is not in??
A shopper on Sep 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I've never noticed the buttons before, I just had a look at the jacket to see what you meant. My jacket is a very firm fit and I have never felt the buttons.
I'm 6'3" and 180 pounds, with very long arms, and always have trouble finding riding gear which fits me properly. Would this jacket fit a guy like me?
A shopper on Jun 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I am about the same height and about 200lb I believe I got the Large because I am a tall and skinny guy. I would recommend maybe one size up because the chest length is just a little short. I questioned going the size up because the chest width seemed a little too big for me so depending on your chest size I would go up. Over all I would say that the jacket I got is pretty much a perfect fit for myself beside me personally wanting it a little longer to cover up my waist a bit more. Let me know if you have any other question
I am looking to Get a treack suit because over the 2015 year I plan on going a few times I settled on a 2 piece suit so now im shopping and deciding either a Alpinestar Motegi or as jacket pants set. I wwant something that can do 3 seasons and would prefer one with a Liner. Does anyone know the differences between the GP-R, GP+R, and the Jaws? Also any suggestions on wwhich to get would be good help.
Christopher H on Dec 30, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I am no professional but I can tell you that the both Jaw and GP Plus R can be used for the track, however for safety purposes you will need to replace the foam back protection with a real one and maybe add better armors and chest protection. Those jackets are not specifically made for the track there are others more track oriented but you won't want to be wearing them in other places than the track!
Hey All,
I just bought this jacket and was wondering if it'll break in at the shoulders at all? I bought a 54 and it fits perfect besides for being really tight across the shoulders. Let me know
Benjamin D on Dec 8, 2014

So I'm a new rider and I am really trying to focus on protection more than anything, is it possible to wear a Icon Stryker Vest under this? I'm 5'8" 155 pounds with a 98 cm chest 89 cm waist 98 cm hip and 67 cm arm length. What sie do you guys recommend if i want to wear the Icon Stryker Vest under this jacket?
A S on Oct 2, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Unless you already have the vest, I would look into the CE chest protector and the race level back protector instead of using the vest. I bought the CE level 2 back protector for this jacket and the upgraded chest protection and it is great stuff.

Being that the jacket is meant to have the back and cheat protection in it I would think you can probably go 1 size up if you want to use the vest instead of the armor made for the jacket.

I would suggest finding a store that sells the jacket before buying and try it with the vest.
What's the coolest weather you would want to ride in wearing the non-perforated version?
Ryan B on Aug 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: If you get this jacket with a fairly snug fit it doesn't flow much air, even with the vents open so it works fairly well in the cold.
I have worn mine at 10 degrees Celsius (50 Fahrenheit) with a thin sweater underneath and I was fairly warm, but I'm pretty much a human furnace.
It's pretty good at 60 Fahrenheit without a sweater of some kind if you don't mind a bit of cool air getting to you.
Does water damage the leather or any other materials used on this jacket?
A shopper on Aug 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I got caught in a heavy rain storm with the jacket. I made sure I dried it immediately when I got home and have seen no damage. I wouldnt recommend wearing it regularly in the rain but I do not believe an occasional rain will damage the leather as long as yoy dry it right away
I am unsure what size jacket to buy?
chest size: 96cm (Euro Size 48)
waist size: 86cm (Euro Size 48)
overall height: 178cm (Euro Size 50)
weight: 73kg
What euro size 48 or 50 fit me?
Thanks in Advance
Bang Yen L on May 1, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I would recommend the 48. This jacket is a little looser than race fit and the sleeves are long, so if you get the size 50 it will be loose on you.
Check the sizing chart and make sure the arms will be long enough.
I have a 107 cm chest and the 54 fits me great. I could possibly have gotten away with the 52, but it would be quite snug
