Pretty Good I have wide feet and I usually buy 12 wide. I bought 13's here and they ended up fitting perfectly. It also looks awesome. November 10, 2014
good fit, flexible, easy to wear and walk Prior to owning these boots I owned a pair of technik chicane's for my R1 that were great for a year. The technics lasted a solid year before becoming uncomfortable to walk in but provided better protection for aggressive riding. I burned up the toe sliders on the old boots and these do not have any toe sliders just some rubber where the slider should go. The are great for the every day commute but don't let your toe grab the ground as there isn't much between your toe and the ground. I ride as much as the weather permits, put about 15k miles on my R1 last year and recently got a WR450 Sumo which is far more fun. I ride aggressively on twisty roads , hooligan in the city and lay it over on the track. So these Astars will not be my track boot as they'll take too much abuse. Buy these for the street, great quality, get race boots for the track these won't last but a few laps before your toes are exposed. November 3, 2014
Excellent Waterproof Boots for the Price I was in the market for some waterproof boots for commuting and general riding. These boots look good, fit well, and have great features for the price. The protection seems solid, though not as much as some higher-end boots. They could work well for generally walking around if you want to ride somewhere and have things to do but they probably wouldn't be comfortable to walk around in all day because of the stiff protection. I finally found my favorite riding shoe! What can I say, great deal, exceptional shoe! I normally wear boots when I ride for a long ride, and tennis shoes (I know, not safe) on short commutes... but I pulled the trigger on these and don't regret it. I wear them a lot, even while on duty as a LEO occasionally because they are quite comfortable. I only have one negative to say really, and it's that the high top portion around your exterior ankle is a little bothersome at first. I haven't really worn them in yet, but they have began to improve, and I imagine that they'll be fine after some more use. The strap across the front is handy for securing the strings when tied, and the strings sit just right at the top to tighten the shoe comfortably and securely. I have never owned a pair of Alpinestar shoes, much less any Euro sized clothing... so I took the advice of Revzilla and ordered the 11.5 (as I normally wear an 11W). The 11.5 fits really nice for my length, and surprisingly very comfortable in my width as well. It has great arch support, too. They are more comfortable than my duty boots that I wear at the Sheriff's Office for long tours of duty and lots of standing/walking. I have no regrets on these shoes, and will definitely be considering more Alpinestar shoes in the future! October 16, 2014
Good shoes... Hard to get on and off but after they're on they fit great. Also somebody said the toe box is very little in the vertical dimension but it wasn't for me I could still move my toes around fine with them on. Also the main reason I got these was so I could take a Basic Riders Course and one of their requirements was to wear sturdy over the ankle footwear and these shoes meet that criteria. October 10, 2014
Simply great boots Have nothing to complain about with these boots. They're comfortable, easy to wear for extended periods of time, haven't been much more than a couple hours yet, but I'll put that to the test this weekend with 6 hour ride to Moab, they waterproof and it actually works, and they look good. They fit a bit narrow, but I have narrow feet so I like it, they don't breathe the best, but I don't mind to much this time of year, I'll have to wait for a couple hot days to tell you how much of an issue that is. Overall I would absolutely recommend these to a friend. October 8, 2014
The Perfect Compromise This shoe is able to provide you with a little more versatility than you may have with a full length race boot. Definitely not a great option if you want to have solid protection if you plan on riding hard and at high speeds, does not give the subconscious, inspiring confidence you might have with a full boot. Definitely a GREAT option to those like myself who already have a full race boot but don't have a step in between for more casual riding situations. If you are looking for something you can wear to and from the gym, dinner, the bars, around the city, this can definitely bridge that gap. I believe that this riding shoe offers a great deal of versatility and a perfect compromise between safety/comfort. For the rider who wants to stay protected even in between casual outings, and even in some rain, look no further. This boot has clean style with the perfect compromise between safety and comfort, full blown plasticity and more simple practicality. Note: -Having no TPR or some type of hardened toe shifter panel will inevitably wear down the oiled suede sooner than later. -Excellent waterproofing and waterproof tongue -Velcro strap is actually functional and is great for tucking laces. -Definitely BANG FOR YOUR BUCK build quality at this price. -may take some getting used to shifting with a flat sole, not like having a heel drop on your typical race boot. -Steel shank makes for a perfect stiffness and breaking them in will make the comfortable, be patient. Perfect for what it is at an affordable price July 31, 2014
Shoes, not boots These are beefy riding shoes, not boots. Also, the toe box felt too tight in the vertical dimension. I returned them and got TCX X-Five boots and feel like I gained a lot of protection (shin and ankle) and comfort without sacrificing the ability to walk around. These Alpinestars have a very stiff sole, so I probably wouldn't have enjoyed walking around in them anyway. June 16, 2014

Ariel G asked: Is the TPR malleus/lateral protection enough for spirited riding? I dont want to be caught with a broken ankle if another waterproof sneaker/shoe could provide a bit more protection. The style on these is exactly what i want though Aug 9, 2013

Herb V: I think it's good protection shy of a racing boot.. You can tighten the top pretty good. I put my foot in a pot hole any other shoe i would have twisted my ankle pretty bad but these provided great protection. Haven't taken a spill with these yet though luckily.

Also have ridden in a downpour with these and they worked great. Hope this helps

Machelle B: Hello. I have been using these daily for the past year and have been very satisfied. Protection wise, I think they are a good compromise for the daiy commuter that needs to walk around in their riding shoes. Much better performing than many of the sneeker style shoes out there. They have nice firm padding that comes well above the ankle and TPR in the right places yet remain comfortable. The waterproofing has worked flawlessly and the Velcro straps keep the laces from getting caught up. For the $$$ they're hard to beat IMHO Aug 9, 2013

Brandon Z: I haven't wrecked while wearing them, so I can't speak to the amount of protection they provide. I can tell you that the ankle protection in these is a lot more soft and flexible than in my other two pairs of MC shoes. Aug 9, 2013

Chris F: To Ariel G,
I am a rarity in that I prefer to enjoy our sport alone. That being said, ...I am seldom closer than waving distance to other bikers. Therefore, I never see other peoples "kits," up close. So, take that into consideration when you read that I think these shoes are little more than a cool looking pair of casual, over-the-ankle foot-ware. Support?, yeah there's some extra padding in the ankle area, along with some cool plastic panels on the exterior. Very much like a lot of high-top sneakers. There is no toe box. The sole is thin, which is good, and stiff from side to side, also good. They are way better than tennis shoes, and a tad better than high tops. For what it's worth, this is my humble opinion. Chris A: I recently purchased this riding shoe because I wanted something stylish to walk around in during local rides. After 300+ miles of riding in them, I have to say I feel completely safe wearing these for spirited riding. The protection this riding shoe offers is great, it's the best of both worlds for me. While feeling durable and pretty close to a low cut riding boot as far as lateral protection, it offers style and comfort for off the bike use. My favorite part about the Fastback is the sneaker like feel, very light. I can get all my riding done and walk around with these for hours to come if need be. It feels like a riding shoe initially, but once you break them in, it becomes more comfortable and easy to ride in. Aug 10, 2013

First officer Andre Felipe(TAM) G: I really dont know what you mean with " spirited " riding , but what i can tell you ... It's 100% waterproof , comfortable , resistent enough to protect your skin, but if you want something to protect your ankles from bending , i would suggest something more rigid like Dainese race short boots for exemple .
I really like these boots , and i really would buy again !!

Anthony D: I would answer this in two parts. First if lateral support is your top concern, maybe you should consider a higher boot. In my opinion there is sufficient protection and support in this boot however I own a higher cut boot for adv touring and off road riding. Aug 11, 2013

PHIL D: Ariel this is a great riding shoe and also is stylish. There are other boots which provide higher protection of the ankle so the trade off is comfort walking around and price. i wear these all the time riding on the street. Aug 10, 2013

A shopper asked: Hi, I am in the process of purchasing my first dedicated motorcycle boots. I use the bike daily to commute around the city but also use the highway from time to time for 2-3 hour commutes. With this in mind I am looking at the Fastbacks versus the TCX X Cube. I prefer the look of the Alpinestars but was wondering if they offer the same or better protection than then TCX X Cubes? Any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks Jan 21, 2014

PETER B: I must own 25 boots of all types and brands. If I were to have only one motorcycle boot, it would be a full height boot. That said, I do like my Alpinestars Fastbacks. They are comfortable, supportive, protective and good looking. My only complaint is the lack of a heel, which gives them a bit of the look of a slipper. I'm not familiar with the TCX X Cube, but I do have a pair of TCX Jupiter Evo Gore Tex, and they are at the top of my list of short boots. I prefer their looks and feel over the Alpinestars, and they are a bit stiffer which I like. Very comfortable for all day wear. For a full height boot, you might also look at the TCX X-FIVE PLUS GORE TEX BOOTS. Like the Jupiters, they are a conservative looking boot that visually wear well over time and go well with any pants. Stiff and supportive, they are also great for day long wear. For both of these TCX boots I ordered a size down from my regular boot size, but of course everyone is different. If you are looking for waterproof, leather and Gore Tex can't be beat for breath ability. Other outer materials (such as Lorica in Sidi boots) and a non-Gore Tex liner just don't breathe as well and my feet perspire in them. Good hunting. Jan 21, 2014

Solon C: I've had the fastbacks for months now and I've done several trips over 3 hours with them. The overall feel of protection with these boots keeps me confident that if I get into a doozey they'll keep my feet protected. The ankle protection is plenty so that if they are done up properly there is minimal movement, if any, but still enough flex to enable shifting. The heel is extremely stiff which is a good thing for a sport touring "shoe" (I consider it more of a boot). They're light and flexible enough to walk in them, though if you're considering being in them for hours upon hours look into getting some real riding shoes with a less rigid sole. I haven't had any experience with the TCXs, but I can assure you if you go with these you probably won't have any complaints.

I hope this helps.

A S: Thanks for the informative answer. Do you have any idea what the difference is in terms of how high each boot comes up the leg. Or is the difference minimal? Yes I probably would be wearing the boots/shoes most of the day. As I am a student I am on a limited budget do not have the luxury of being able to buy two separate type of boots ie. one for the city and one of highway journeys. The vast majority of the time I use the bike in the city so thought I may have to compromise slightly for the long-distance commuting and rather buy a boot that I would wear on a daily basis without having to mess around with separate pairs of shoes etc. What do you think? I know if I got a full racing style boot I would be unlikely to wear it very often around town..... Jan 22, 2014
Reply to A Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Solon C: These boots could work as day shoes if you undo the upper laces closer to the ankle. That way you'll increase the range of motion around that joint. They won't be as comfortable as sneakers, obviously, but realize these are meant for riding so the protective features are what matters most. The bottom line is that these shoes are pretty versatile. Jan 22, 2014
Eric N: Hello,

Let me start by saying I really do like the astars fastbacks I have had them now for almost two years. they are put together well and in my opinion have what seems to be sufficient protection in key areas. With that being said my one gripe with them is that I wish they came up a little higher. I know they are a "riding shoe" and not a boot but it seems that the x cube does offer a higher cut if that may be a concern for you. Which ever way u go u will be making a big step up from sneakers hope this helps. good luck and ride safe

A shopper asked: I tip toe my zx-10r in sneakers. And I am fine with that but will these shoes take further away from my height since it seems like they don't have much sole.

Thanks!

SpadedAce: Can't answer anything about your current boot to say they'll "take away from your height" but they will not add as much as a boot will with a big sole etc. These are almost like wrestling or car racing boots in that they have a very thin sole for better feel.

I tip toe on my GS, and these haven't changed that. I still can reach the ground so I don't think any boot style/size will change that on you either.

Cheers.

cbeamer22: Im a short rider and I wore work boots before. They seem to have a shorter sole from pics but I reach better in these then the work boots. I will have to wait and see after a full season if they wear down more Jan 28, 2013

RevZilla: These boots probably would not be best for your situation. We would recommend the Alpinestars CR-4 Gore-Tex XCR Boot as they have a thick sole and should keep you in contact with the ground. Jan 31, 2013

A shopper asked: Just wondering about sizing.
I tried on 9US at my local shop and they will too tight in the toes but felt okay elsewhere.
I then tried 10US which felt too louse around the ankle area.

Would 9.5US fit okay then? my local doesn't carry half sizes.

SpadedAce: If you used the same sock in both size try-on's, then the middle size should be good. These are supposed to be a very snug fit and the footbed will shape to your feet the more you wear them causing a break-in that will give you just a bit more room.

Good luck.

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Josh V: these shoes run a bit more on boot sizing, which is typically larger than sneaker sizing. so if you wear an 8.5 sneaker, I'd opt for a size 8 to ensure a better fit. also the shoe will break in a bit after the first few uses, so I would say snug is better. (you don't want loose shoes that can fly off in the worst case of a crash, plus you'll have better braking and shifting dexterity). Nov 12, 2014

With this in mind I am looking at the Fastbacks versus the TCX X Cubes. I was wondering if you guys knew how they compared in terms of protection. I have viewed both videos but doesn't seem that conclusive as to which offers better protection? Seems to be the TCX that provide slightly better features but is the difference substantial? Thanks Jan 21, 2014

First officer Andre Felipe(TAM) G: Hi , i will try to be objective!!!
These pairs are very good in terms of comfort , waterproof and protection as well. In the protection issue it will not prevent your ankles to bend , hasn't the toughness or rigidness necessary for it. It's good , i would buy once again. In case for a track day , or riding a superbike , assuming increased risks , i would certain go with something more tough!!
