Nice jacket, good features, some odd bits
Purchased to replace my cool weather Firstgear jacket. Was originally disappointed by 2 things. 1) Had chest pads in and felt stiff, like flat boards were pressing on my chest. Fit was great except for this, very uncomfortable. Took me a while to figure out how to get rid of them. Without them it fits great. I'm 5'11" and 200lbs and I ordered the XL for layering. 2) The black I ordered is an Alpinestars billboard. Unlike the picture it has a large white (not black as shown) Alpinestars logo at rear waist as well as large ones on each shoulder. Ugh! I've been paid to sponsor gear in the past and would rather be a little more unobtrusive. I think a Sharpie or two will take care of it, but still the pictures should be accurate. It would have swayed my decision toward another jacket. Okay so there are a couple of features that I like about this jacket. The price-point is great, lot of jacket for the price. Neck rolls down for more airflow and better yet the collar is comfortable and snug up into the helmet creating very little airflow to skin at helmet/jacket interface.Went for a nice long ride the other day at 30-36 degrees (f) with my windscreen down to get full air blast. Wore a long underwear shirt and a windbreaker under the jacket with liner. Worked great. No cold spots and comfy. Love the snap-back of the upper zipper cover allowing better airflow if you zip down a little. Loved the double zip. Made sitting on the bike a little more comfortable when I unzipped from the bottom a little. Not thrilled about the clumsy velcro at the sleeve bottoms. awkward to use and doesn't really lie flat, but I could get them into the gauntlet of my gloves with a little work. When standing in the jacket or when riding with hands on bars the jacket is great, unfortunately when I sit up with a hand of the bars the jacket digs into my armpit a little. Too stiff? Its weird and don't think it will be too uncomfortable in the long run.

Commuters: Buy This Jacket
I purchased this since I commute year round here in Salt Lake City. I have a Dainese jacket for the warmer times and this is strictly for colder, slightly wetter days. I love this jacket's styling, the fit was perfect, and the features are very functional. For the price I am very satisfied. I used to wear my snowboarding gear but was always concerned since I had no body armor. I like that I can take the thermal lining out for warmer days or to put my heated jacket liner underneath. Also, I ride a S1000RR and I still love this jacket even if it's more "touring" oriented. Def recommended!

Great Winter Jacket
I love this jacket for winter and rain. Living in Texas panhandle commuting to work early morning can be 20 to 30 degrees. Coming back home temps can be 40 to 50 degrees and this jacket does well in all those temps. When raining this jacket is amazing as well. After 3 winters searching for the best jacket I found this one.

Great 3 Season Jacket
This jacket meets my needs for a 3 season jacket (Fall, Winter & Spring). It does not have enough air flow for warm weather climates or the Summer. I have another jacket I use for Summer. The Andes jacket was fine when I used it in the Fall. When it was warmer, I removed the liner and opened the vents on the jacket, which don't vent directly to the body. This was enough to help during those warmer Fall days. I don't ride much in the winter, but did ride on those days hovering in the low 40's and the jacket kept me warm and comfortable. Have not used it in Spring yet, but believe this jacket will be fine. As far as fit, I am 5'10", 44 chest and weigh 200lbs, so I ordered a size XL. This size is a great fit, it is comfortable but not baggy. It fits like a motorcycle jacket should and is well made. I never used it in the rain, so I am not able to review how it handles rain. Overall, I am very pleased with this jacket.

Fantastic cool weather jacket
As a Minnesotan rider, who cant seem to stop riding when it gets cold, I needed a warmer jacket. With the liner in this jacket, I was able to ride home with just a T-Shirt under in high 30 degree weather and my upper body was absolutely fine with the temperature. I also rode 40+ miles in pouring rain in 40 degree weather on the freeway and I stayed warm and completely dry, as did the waterproof pockets. I do plan on riding until snow falls, so hopefully it can hold up to the horror that is early Minnesota winter.

I'm a bit bigger, at 6' 220lb, and I went with an XL, and it is a tad loose with the liner in, and quite a bit loose with the liner out. Even with the arm adjustments, and the waist adjustments I'm still a little small for this jacket, yet I believe the L would have been too small.

My only real complaints are the lack of hand warmer pockets, and one of the elbow pads had an issue staying where it needed to be. With some fiddling I was able to get it to stay, but it could easily become loose again.

Overall I am extremely happy with how this jacket performs in the cooler months, and very happy with the water protection. The price point of this jacket with it's features is absolutely fantastic.

The best jacket i could have ever wanted
I got this jacket last year in prep for getting my motorcycle license. till then i used it as my off-road winter jacket and it worked like a charm. i live near Vancouver so our winter consists of heavy fog, rain (and a lot of it) and really cold temperatures. and the jacket keeps me nice and toasty warm and dry to add to the awesomeness! it has a lot of pockets for all my little gadgets i take with me on my rides. my sole complaint is the jacket performance in warmer weather conditions. with the insulation inside the air flow isn't great. so if i'm stopped at a stop light i get quite warm really quickly and while moving air doesn't get to the skin very well so cooling down takes time. with the fleece removed airflow is still pretty bad but makes the jacket a bit more bearable. id say this jacket is the perfect 3 season's jacket. and you can wear it into the early weeks of summer but that all matters where you live. the hi viz is very visible too so drivers will definitely see you coming by. i highly recommend this jacket for anyone who rides in colder weather and or in rain. best bang for your buck by my standards.

Great, quality jacket
I wore a Tourmaster Transition jacket for 5 years and it was very good, but the Andes is great. The permanent Drystar liner keeps it from being a hot weather, summer jacket but it's just right for the other three seasons. I've only worn it in the winter so far and it's done well down in the mid-20'sF. I'm confident it'll be fine in the single digits too. The material and craftsmanship is excellent, a notch above my Tourmaster. I've ridden in the rain a few times and the waterproofing is excellent, a benefit of the Drystar liner. I'd buy this jacket again and highly recommend it for the $250 price I paid.

JACKET IS PERFECT FOR COOL CONDITIONS, THE ONLY THING I WILL INVEST IS ON GETTING THE UPGRADE PROTECTIONS SINCE THE ONE THAT COME WITH ARE CHEAP. IT CAN HANDLE LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN WITH OUT GETTING WET. PERFECT FOR CONDITION BETWEEN 35F TO 75F.

Good cheap waterproof jacket
I got this jacket and the matching pants to use for winter commuting in the rain. For that purpose it does a great job, however when the weather gets hot that non-removable waterproof liner gets awfully hot. I can't comfortably wear this jacket above 75 degrees unless I am moving at constant highway speeds; any slower and you start sweating and thanks to the waterproof liner the sweat doesn't have anywhere to go.

This jacket will definitely keep you dry, I've worn it through some ridiculous rain at highway speeds and come out almost completely dry except for a little bit where the two jacket flaps come together, there was a dime sized wet spot due to me not quite getting the rain gutter under it lined up correctly.

Overall I recommend this jacket for late fall, winter, and early spring riding. It doesn't have tons of features but the price is right.

Great value, seems very well made
I am 5' 10" 130lb. I ordered the small and with all the adjustments cinched down as much as they will go it fits well. The arms are very baggy as is the rest of it. Definitely a touring cut and not a sport cut.
That said it's very comfortable.

I ordered the high vis and it's brilliant! Very visible and looks awesome!

The build quality seems very high and I didn't find any loose seems etc...

The "airflow" is pretty much a joke. But that's ok because I ordered this for the colder months as I have a dainese air flux for the summer. Between putting a base layer under the air flux and being able to take in/out the thermal liner on this I am going to be comfortable no matter the conditions.

I haven't got a chance to test the waterproofing yet. But I will get many opportunities here in Alabama.

Revzilla is great as always.

For the cooler fall and winter commutes. If the road is dry, I ride. It gets down in the mid 20's here in SLC in January. So a nice base layer and this jacket should be good. And if it dips into the teens, I have my heated jacket liner to wear underneath.

Great, high quality three season jacket. This is perfect for fall, spring, and winter. With the liner, I wore this in single digit temperatures without a problem. The weather proofing works well. It's not good when the temps hit 80F+. I love this jacket and highly recommend it.

Very happy with this jacket. I commute inland from a coastal climate so having something warm year round is important. This jacket is toasty in the morning fog, but not too warm if it's 75 out when I'm heading home. Plenty of pockets for storage, and if it does get really warm, the liner zips out easily. The front and back vents aren't as effective as a jacket that doesn't have an integrated waterproof liner, but they definitely help. Overall, very happy.

Can I upgrade the armor? Can I add back protection to it? If Yes, which armor do you recommend?
Raul E on Mar 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can upgrade the armor. I think the CE1 shoulder and elbow armor included is sufficient so I left those as is. The back foam I replaced with upgraded armor from Alpinestars, the one I have is discontinued though. Look at the Alpinestars Nucleon back armor. I have a small jacket and used the medium back armor. Contact Revzilla to see if back armor sizing is the same on the Nucleon.
I live in Colorado, ride year round and am looking for a jacket that I can wear most of the time. I was leaning towards the Alpinestars Lucerne but saw this one and decided to ask for some advice between the two and also on sizing. I'm 5'11" 195 with a 46-47" chest. 3XL? Thanks!
A shopper on Nov 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I love my dry star jacket.... Warm, cold doesn't matter and she held up really well when I dumped it on black ice!
Does this jacket come with a liner for cold weather? If so, is it removable in order to wear the jacket in warm weather? Thanks.
A shopper on Mar 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the jacket does come with a removable liner. I've kept the liner in all Winter and the jacket is very comfortable and warm. I highly recommend it. (FYI, regarding sizing, I am 5’ 9” with a 42” inch chest and size L fits perfectly.)
Is the armor adjustable?
Bart D on Dec 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes it is but do not expect much, I got it in medium and fit perfect but I like my jackets little oversize... So large could be an option.... But it is up to you... If you are medium ask for medium will fit you right but if you want a lttle extra go large.... On a jacket I am 40 some times 42 short and wear 32 waisr jeans..
But buy buy the jacket you will love it.
5'-11" 275. 42" waist and 30" sleeve. What would be the best fit? Looking at 3XL.
A S on Jul 28, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I'm 6'5" 270 and I wear a 3XL. It just about perfect for me, with a little room for a lyre or two under. The sleeves are likely a little long for you, but gloves will probably keep them at bay. I also never tighten the elbows; I imagine that could help with the sleeves being baggy as we'll. good luck.
OK, can anyone tell me where/how you remove the foam chest protectors? At 5:25 he said you have the ability to use any of the Alpinestars chest protectors in this jacket. That's fine, except that I can't find where you remove them. No problem with the shoulders, elbows, and back, but don't see any opening to remove, or replace the chest foam pieces?

BEST ANSWER: You have to open the zipper at the bottom of the jacket and go between the lining and the "outter shell". The chest protectors are inside a velcro-closed "bag" similar to the shoulder bag. I hope this can help you.

BEST ANSWER: Awesome jacket! However, the sizing runs on the tight end. Order a size larger than what you normally wear. The Large will be too tight. You should go with the XL.

BEST ANSWER: I dont know if I can post it on their website. I will try. I can also tell you I love this Jacket. I have this and a first gear heated liner. Last week the temp (before wind chill) was -4. The combo plugged in was toasty. This jacket alone seems to keep me warm in the low teens. My only complaint is the neck fastening. But that could be because of my neck.
Hello, I'm 5'10" - 160 lbs., thin build. Which size would be best suited for my stature in this jacket?
