Alpinestars Andes Drystar Jacket 4.6 5 31 31
Great in cold weather. Good value Bought the Andes Jacket based on reviews, and the video. I have worn in temps down to 40° F with only a long sleeve button up shirt under it. I wanted to see how warm the jacket was on it's own. It did what it's supposed to do and I didn't miss not wearing any additional base layers. I have ordered the matching Andes pants after trying them on in the Philly store, and suspect that their performance will be just a good as the jacket. Good quality, and features for the price. Have not tried the air flow yet, that is why it is only Average. The only thing that I did have done was to move the velco at the wrist over so that I could get the wrist opening tighter. I would have liked hand warmer pockets, but that being said, I did know that it didn't come with them. Not a deal breaker by any means. November 9, 2015
Excellent Hi Viz Cool Weather Jacket I normally wear a size Medium in nearly everything but got a Large and it fits perfectly. The padding on the shoulders and elbows stays in place well, and there are pockets all over this thing! The zipper is very well-made, and the details like the waterproof zipped pockets on the front and fleece lining around the throat show they went above and beyond to make a great jacket. I've tested it in 40º weather and was very warm with the liner. Without the liner, I was still warm in 60º weather with all the vents closed. I haven't tested it in hot weather or rain yet. I've been very happy with this and hope it will work as a 3 season fall/winter/spring jacket for years to come. November 2, 2015
Great Winter Jacket I love this jacket for winter and rain. Living in Texas panhandle commuting to work early morning can be 20 to 30 degrees. Coming back home temps can be 40 to 50 degrees and this jacket does well in all those temps. When raining this jacket is amazing as well. After 3 winters searching for the best jacket I found this one. October 27, 2015
Fantastic cool weather jacket As a Minnesotan rider, who cant seem to stop riding when it gets cold, I needed a warmer jacket. With the liner in this jacket, I was able to ride home with just a T-Shirt under in high 30 degree weather and my upper body was absolutely fine with the temperature. I also rode 40+ miles in pouring rain in 40 degree weather on the freeway and I stayed warm and completely dry, as did the waterproof pockets. I do plan on riding until snow falls, so hopefully it can hold up to the horror that is early Minnesota winter. I'm a bit bigger, at 6' 220lb, and I went with an XL, and it is a tad loose with the liner in, and quite a bit loose with the liner out. Even with the arm adjustments, and the waist adjustments I'm still a little small for this jacket, yet I believe the L would have been too small. My only real complaints are the lack of hand warmer pockets, and one of the elbow pads had an issue staying where it needed to be. With some fiddling I was able to get it to stay, but it could easily become loose again. Overall I am extremely happy with how this jacket performs in the cooler months, and very happy with the water protection. The price point of this jacket with it's features is absolutely fantastic. Good Value Haven't ridden in cold or wet conditions yet but otherwise seems like a good jacket. Fits well, comfortable, good protection (with optional armor), and looks good with a bunch of pockets and decent amount of features. I'm 5'9 185lbs with a 44 inch chest and the XL fits well with some extra room. However, the airflow is below average (uncomfortable above 75 degrees) and the cuffs could use a better design. Overall good bang for the buck. October 5, 2015
Commuters: Buy This Jacket I purchased this since I commute year round here in Salt Lake City. I have a Dainese jacket for the warmer times and this is strictly for colder, slightly wetter days. I love this jacket's styling, the fit was perfect, and the features are very functional. For the price I am very satisfied. I used to wear my snowboarding gear but was always concerned since I had no body armor. I like that I can take the thermal lining out for warmer days or to put my heated jacket liner underneath. Also, I ride a S1000RR and I still love this jacket even if it's more "touring" oriented. Def recommended! October 2, 2015
Good product Good product, I use it in all conditions between Highland and sea region, I live in ecuatorial region and use it in Andes region without internal cover, and work very good, I go near to volcano and is very comfortable September 14, 2015
Not expensive and good quality This jacket looks very modern and it's true to size, the protections seem a little bit more than average and the "back protector" included is just a piece of foam so I recommend to buy the back protector from alpinestars. I liked the detail Alpinestars did in the chest it has a more rough feeling I think it has a foam protector inside of the jacket, never seen that before. I bought the Hi-viz version and it looks very cool!, two or three of my friends are looking for one of these. I think it's a more winter oriented jacket so for the price you get more than you think! RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Trynn O: For the cooler fall and winter commutes. If the road is dry, I ride. It gets down in the mid 20's here in SLC in January. So a nice base layer and this jacket should be good. And if it dips into the teens, I have my heated jacket liner to wear underneath. Sep 29, 2015

Brett B: Great, high quality three season jacket. This is perfect for fall, spring, and winter. With the liner, I wore this in single digit temperatures without a problem. The weather proofing works well. It's not good when the temps hit 80F+. I love this jacket and highly recommend it. May 4, 2015

David B: Very happy with this jacket. I commute inland from a coastal climate so having something warm year round is important. This jacket is toasty in the morning fog, but not too warm if it's 75 out when I'm heading home. Plenty of pockets for storage, and if it does get really warm, the liner zips out easily. The front and back vents aren't as effective as a jacket that doesn't have an integrated waterproof liner, but they definitely help. Overall, very happy. May 28, 2014

A shopper asked: Does this jacket come with a liner for cold weather? If so, is it removable in order to wear the jacket in warm weather? Thanks. Mar 12, 2014

Jason O: Yes, the jacket does come with a removable liner. I've kept the liner in all Winter and the jacket is very comfortable and warm. I highly recommend it. (FYI, regarding sizing, I am 5’ 9” with a 42” inch chest and size L fits perfectly.) Mar 14, 2014

Eric K: Yes on both counts--the liner is removable, and without it the jacket is good for warm days (though probably not super hot ones). With the liner, the jacket is quite warm, suitable for temperatures near freezing or even a little below. Mar 14, 2014

and it has another liner not removable that has the drystar which is the waterproof liner.

A S asked: 5'-11" 275. 42" waist and 30" sleeve. What would be the best fit? Looking at 3XL. Jul 28, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Joel M: I'm 6'5" 270 and I wear a 3XL. It just about perfect for me, with a little room for a lyre or two under. The sleeves are likely a little long for you, but gloves will probably keep them at bay. I also never tighten the elbows; I imagine that could help with the sleeves being baggy as we'll. good luck. Jul 28, 2014
Reply to Joel Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Joel M: I'm 6'5" 270. I'm very happy with my 3XL. I've got room for a layer or two under. The sleeves are a little long when not wearing gloves and off the bike. They might be a little exaggerated for you, but the elbow straps might help keep the cuffs back off your hands. Jul 28, 2014

Dmitry K: I'm 5'-11'' 210. 33" waist. I got an XL and it a bit bigger that I need but L was way too small. I decided to stay with XL and pretty happy with the jacket during 40-60 weather Jul 30, 2014

A shopper asked: OK, can anyone tell me where/how you remove the foam chest protectors? At 5:25 he said you have the ability to use any of the Alpinestars chest protectors in this jacket. That's fine, except that I can't find where you remove them. No problem with the shoulders, elbows, and back, but don't see any opening to remove, or replace the chest foam pieces? Oct 27, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Ricardo B: You have to open the zipper at the bottom of the jacket and go between the lining and the "outter shell". The chest protectors are inside a velcro-closed "bag" similar to the shoulder bag. I hope this can help you. Oct 28, 2015

Juan V: i don't know how to do it.

If you know how to, would you please tell me?

Javier L: Awesome jacket! However, the sizing runs on the tight end. Order a size larger than what you normally wear. The Large will be too tight. You should go with the XL. Feb 4, 2015

Thanyaporn H: I dont know if I can post it on their website. I will try. I can also tell you I love this Jacket. I have this and a first gear heated liner. Last week the temp (before wind chill) was -4. The combo plugged in was toasty. This jacket alone seems to keep me warm in the low teens. My only complaint is the neck fastening. But that could be because of my neck. Jan 29, 2014

A shopper asked: I live in Colorado, ride year round and am looking for a jacket that I can wear most of the time. I was leaning towards the Alpinestars Lucerne but saw this one and decided to ask for some advice between the two and also on sizing. I'm 5'11" 195 with a 46-47" chest. 3XL? Thanks! Nov 6, 2015

Raul E asked: Can I upgrade the armor? Can I add back protection to it? If Yes, which armor do you recommend? Mar 19, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Darren L: Yes you can upgrade the armor. I think the CE1 shoulder and elbow armor included is sufficient so I left those as is. The back foam I replaced with upgraded armor from Alpinestars, the one I have is discontinued though. Look at the Alpinestars Nucleon back armor. I have a small jacket and used the medium back armor. Contact Revzilla to see if back armor sizing is the same on the Nucleon. Mar 19, 2015
