Akrapovic Exhaust System Yamaha FZ-09 2014
A lot of hype on this pipe... Just hype though.
So these guys (Akrapovic) brag about industry leading quality materials, welding techniques etc. Unfortunately this claim just doesn't stand up.
1- The fitment of the muffler is so tight it WILL make you nervous how close the muffler gets to the swing arm.
2 - The placement for the springs do not align correctly so the springs don't run parallel to the pipe.
3 - Flames are totally cool... but this thing almost seems dangerous it pops 12 inch flames out the back every time you rev it up. AAAAlmost can't complain about this one...
4 - Finally they never even took the time to clean off the pipe stock they bought to build the product. there is lettering on my headers from whoever they bought the pipe from....

POP BURBLE BURBLE BURBLE POP POP! This exhaust made the bike 100x more attractive. Biggest shop in MN said this is the best sounding bike they have ever heard. Hands down I would buy this if it was twice as much. Fit and Finish is perfect. The sound clips and videos don't do this product justice at all. If you're on the edge about getting this, pull the trigger. You will never regret it.

Best exhaust for the FZ-09!
Forget all the other systems for the Fz-09, this is the only one designed with the bike in mind. All the other systems use their proprietary generic muffler attached to new piping, leaving the exhaust protruding from the side, unlike the titanium Akra and stock exhaust.
Installation was easy and straightforward. Included instructions are very clear.
If you plan on removing the silencer, do it before installing the muffler. Remove the set screw, then use a long pipe to tap it out from the inside.

Steven S: I did not want a system requiring fuel mapping. According to Akrapocic, this unit for my FZ09 does not require re-mapping. We shall see! I wanted more aggressive sound, not better performance. The FZ09 does not need any help with performance. Steven ShuppAug 3, 2014
lawrence b: I chose carbon fiber. It looks good and appears to be tuned for ultimate performance.Mar 26, 2014
A shopper asked:Since the Akrapovic titanium has a catalytic converter does fuel system need to be remapped ?May 31, 2014
zach h:The catalytic convertor is an add on to the titanium exhaust. With or without the CC you DO NOT need to do a remap or even need a power commander. The akropovic exhaust was made to work perfectly with stock map.May 31, 2014
Alfred C:The catalytic converter is a$100 option. I purchased and installed a Dyna jet V.when the pipe was installed. The end cap has a tack weld in it too so you have to release that before you can run the pipe without the tri cap. I left it in place. I'm looking for a better air filter too but none are available as of today.Jun 2, 2014
Kirk B:The Ti and Carbon exhausts from Akra are completely different designs, it is not just about the materials used. The Ti version is the closest to stock and has a larger and more muffled can. It is approved for street use in the EU and does not require fueling adjustments. On the other hand, the carbon one is deemed the "race" system and is tuned entirely for performance rather than being street legal.
If you want understated looks and slightly louder sound - go with the Ti version.
If you want added performance and wicked sound - go with the Carbon version.Jul 15, 2014
