I really wanted to like this helmet
I really wanted to like this helmet but you get what you pay for. First the positives. The helmet arrived to the west coast the day after ordering. I love the chin strap buckle. Its easy to use even with gloves on. I also like that the helmet has wide field of view. There is absolutely no blockage of vision even with the full face shield on. As far as size, I was right in the middle of the med sz range. I should have ordered one size up. Trying it on it was snug and I figured it would break in. I forgot to take into account the skull cap I wear and a full face balaclava when the weather gets cold. Overall, the helmet wears small. Its a great helmet for about 50mi, unfortunately I have a 75mi commute. There is pressure on the forehead area and the ear cuffs don't completely cover my ears. I understand some of my unhappines is the fitment issue. That aside the reason I chose this helmet was its ability to configure to several styles. I have always been a 3/4 open face helmet but I wanted something to wear when the weather turned. My overall idea of these type of modular helmets is they try to be too many things and don't do anything quite right. The plastic pieces (chin bar, visors) feel made from cheap plastic. The chin covers are very cheap and come off when I grab the chin strap to put the helmet on. Ive thrown them away. Ive tried all configurations and the helmet is very noisy. The quietest is with the full face shield and chin bar. However the face shield has no raised edge or stub to raise and lower the shield. With the chin bar on there is no way to raise the shield as it sits flush with the bar. The loudest style is with face shield only. Ventilation is adequate. Although I do not feel air moving through the helmet, I can tell you even in 100+ temps the helmet is not overly hot. I assume this is because of the passive air vents. I am neutral in recommending this helmet. Overall I don't think the pros outweigh the cons. You're going to get what you pay for. This is helmet marketed as do-all, which it may be. It just doesn't do it well.

The size is just perfect to the indicated value. It´s a little bit too hard inside. Noise level is high. It has so many vent holes but you don´t feel the airflow inside. Outside on the helmet it says that chin guard is not an approved protection.

Great helmet for the money!
I wore this helmet for two 6 hour stretches with temps in the mid 80s and high humidity and so far I am very pleased. When I first got it I was concerned that it was too tight but after an hour on the road it felt perfect and stayed that way. I have only worn it with the chin bar removed on the road so far. The long face shield is great and the slider for the sun shield is easy to operate once you get used to its location. The chin bar feels very sturdy but the visor parts feel a bit on the flimsy side. The only other con I can find with it is that the face shield doesn't have a tab on it for easy lifting when you use it with the chin bar. There is a recess in the chin bar for you to get a finger into to lift the shield, but a tab would have been easier to find with a glove on.
Overall, a very versatile helmet at an exceptional price.

Great product. Versatile. No regrets!
The helmet is a great bang for your buck. I can change it however I want, if I'm going on a quick trip I strip it of everything except the small visor. I plan on using the full face during the winter. There are some small Cons though but for the price most of them will have these. Keep in mind that most of what I've used are expensive full face lightweight helmets. I have not tried this in full-face(too hot in FL). For the price however(and even just convenience) this is the perfect helmet.
-Amazing bang for buck
-Noisy(worn other half helmets and this is noisiest)
-Good airflow yet feels hotter than others
-Feels heavy(comparing to high priced though)
If someone made this helmet in higher price range quality($500-$600) with low weight and less noisy, I would stock up on them and never want anything else.

Geoffrey H: Looking for a full-face helmet for cold rainy days, this was one of my first search results and looks quite cool. I especially like the large visor, a feature I didn't realize I wanted until I saw it. I frequently wear a baseball cap under my helmet to shield my eyes from the sun, and I hope the visor will fill that role.Oct 4, 2014
Ray B: Because of the way the helmet changes and the tinted visor featureSep 13, 2014

A shopper asked:When is the afx fx-55 helmet going to be available?Sep 19, 2013
Paul T:I believe the helmet bar is more for protection from the elements and small debris like rocks and branches. It won't protect your face as well as a full molded chin bar but will provide more protection than a helmet without one. Now understand this is just my opinion since I ordered the helmet in April with an expected ship date of late April which has now been pushed back to June due to it being on back order. I just returned from a trip to Georgia. I live in upstate NY and wanted a modular helmet since it was 25F degrees here when I left home and arrived in Georgia with 95F. Unfortunately still waiting for the helmet to arrive. I can give you a better assessment when it gets here. My friend has a shark modular helmet where the chin bar folds all the way back so he can ride with it open. His helmet was over $400 new. He still chooses to wear a half helmet when it gets super hot. We were dying in 95 degrees facing the sun at highway speeds in Georgia. Any helmet will provide some protection, just keep the rubber side down. Ride on!May 12, 2014
A S asked:what is the fit like? I tried a speed$strength ss220 or 2500 their version of this type (removable chin bar) of helmet and in an XL my chin hit the bar.would I have the same prob with this? I wear a 7 1/8- 7 1/4 hat size and in speed & strength I wear an XL.Jun 20, 2014
Paul T:To be honest with you, I'm excited to see what it is like. I ordered the helmet from Revzilla in April but have yet to receive it. The expected delivery date continues to be pushed back. I suspect a manufacturing issue. I just sent an Email to AFX to find out why the delay. As soon as I receive the helmet, I'll try to answer your question in my review of the product. Sorry I couldn't help more.Jun 21, 2014
Paul T:I did get a response from AFX. They said the helmet should be available end of July, early August. It looks like some vendors are beginning to show the helmet in stock. Hoping it gets to my door soon.Jul 27, 2014
Richard D:I feel that while it fits my ovular head well, it is definitely rounder than my fx-50, giving the slightest pressure at the for head. Which I feel is going away the more I wear it and the liner forms to my head.Aug 11, 2014
