Good dual sport helmet! This helmet is a great helmet when riding my dual sport on the trails, or on the road. When reaching high speeds mostly if on a sport bike for sure wind catches the visor a bit but not too bad. Very comfortable and cheap! Defenatly bang for the buck! Good visability and lots of air flow. Don't know too much on sound because I always wear ear plugs when riding. Anyways great helmet and would recommend to any dual sport rider looking for a good but very affordable helmet. October 13, 2014
really impressed! Bought this in a size large just over two weeks ago, I'm impressed for the price! Fit took a few commutes to break in - now have about 400 miles on the helmet- so the fit was a bit snug fore and aft. Once the liner and my head settled in I like it! Coming off a Bell Star Carbon size L - perfect fit- and a TLD Air size XL which was a just a tiny bit loose so I was in between AFX sizing. Customer service rep recommended a large so a thank you to him! Lots of vents as we've had triple digit temps here lately and its not too hot on the slab. Like the shield a lot, nice to have Sun shield down but visor up for lane sharing! Went with white and added some white reflective tape on the back and sides, just about the perfect commuter helmet and taking it to the trails this weekend! October 6, 2014
I'm very happy with this helmet. I'm very happy with this helmet. I bought a 2nd helmet for my Son because I liked the helmet. October 1, 2014
Great Helmet Great Deal Fits perfect! Finally a helmet that fits me perfect. Love the look and the 2 shields. Love the ventilation, perfect for offroad use when things get a little heated. Might be too cold for winter use, but I will have to wait and find out. Also quick strap is a really nice feature too. September 30, 2014
OK helmet, poor QC This is my first foray into the realm of budget helmets. I needed a new lid to replace my Arai Vector as it's out of it's service life and falling apart (amazingly comfy lid btw). I'm not intending on using this for long, only a few months until some new helmets I've been waiting on are released. With that in mind, here are my thoughts: Fit: A little large. I wear a medium in most other manufacturers (Arai, AGV, Shoei), and I like my fit snug so the helmet doesn't bobble around (you know...proper fit). The medium AFX is pretty big and there is definitely some play right out of the box. My head measures just a tad over 58cm, so according to the size chart I thought medium would be fine. It fits, but wobbles a little more than other helmets I'm used to. I'm not sure if the small would fit better or not; just be weary. Noise: It's louder than my previous helmet, but I wear earplugs or earbuds for any ride longer than 20 mins, so this doesn't bother me. I haven't heard any whistling or anything weird. Venting and Airflow: Most of the venting comes up from the neck area, or in through the visor when cracked open. I get absolutely NO venting through any of the vents on the top or back. There is excessive hot glue plugging up the holes under the plastic vent pieces rendering the vents useless. Luckily enough air comes up from underneath that it hasn't mattered yet. Vision: Shield is clear and distortion free for me. Sunshade works great and comes down nice and low. Just dark enough to block enough sun to make it comfortable, but not so dark it's hard to see in dusk/dawn situations. Finish and Quality: Terrible. Glue over-applied everywhere, so much so that it has blocked all of the vent holes. Visor seal is crooked, and forehead liner attachment points are bent. In general, most fit tolerances are huge. Obviously there is little to no quality control within AFX, or they just don't care, because this helmet is a travesty in this department. Very disappointing. Conclusion: I didn't expect too much out of this helmet for it's cost, and most things are forgivable for a low cost lid. The blatant lack of QC in the manufacturing process however is somewhat frustrating. Obviously, I don't expect this helmet to compete with other helmets 5x it's cost, but some BASIC quality control would have been nice. To have all of your vents plugged from the factory isn't acceptable in any helmet at any price. This is something I can't even fix as the holes are not accessible from the inside of the helmet. Other than that, it's about what I expected. Maybe I've been spoiled by my previous helmet, but I tried to keep my expectations low with this. It'll work for the next few months, then serve as a backup. September 23, 2014
a little noisy, but worth the price much better on the road than the 39, a little noisy but with all the vents its to be expected. fit is like was described and comfortable all day. September 22, 2014
AFX DS-41 This is the 2nd AFX DS-41 I have purchased from Revzilla. I contacted Revzilla on the sizing and was assured it was the same as the AFX-39, which I wear a small in. I ordered the Gray AFX-41 in a small. Upon arrival, and trying the small 41 on, it was noted that the 41 in small is way smaller than the AFX-39 small! There seemed to be zero padding in the neck, and forehead area. It fit very tight! Also, on the back of the helmet there was white showing through where it looked like they had missed painting it. I returned the helmet to Revzilla, and chose a medium AFX-41. They were out of stock on the Gray, so I chose Flat Black. The Medium 41 fits a bit lose, but there is proper padding in the neck and forehead area. The ventilation on this helmet is insane! Tons of air flow! Vision is also excellent , and the shield seemed to fog less than my 39. The drop down tinted visor was also great, although a bit cheap. The shield seems to hold its position in the detents better than the 39 also. I can crack it open to the 1st detent and it will stay. This helmet is noticeably louder than the 39. I attribute this to the ventilation, and the way air flows in beside the shield and tinted visor. I had no trouble with the shield hitting the visor and scuffing up the clear shield,as others have described. The Visor, in the lowest setting, allows the shield to fully retract up. Overall, I love this helmet. I'm saving it for a summer helmet, and keeping my 39 for cooler temps. September 22, 2014
Great helmet with a few flaws... Got the helmet in Feb 14'. I use it daily and I like the wide field of view and the flip down sun visor when I'm in the dirt although it's way too light to block any real sunshine. I ride about 50/50 as I'm in Uganda. The drawback to this helmet are that it's HEAVY but for the price I expected it. The other BIG drawback is that the constant use of the face shield quickly stripped away the ratchet notches so the visor no longer stays up. I wrote AFX and they've sent me a new visor and shield which they say has been improved over the original for free! Haven't tried it yet as I'm in Uganda and the package was shipped to my US address. I hope to update once the new stuff is put on. All in all, it's more than adequate for the price! September 22, 2014

JESSE D: I like the way the helmet looks and that it is DOT approved, I had an opportunity to try one on at a local bike shop and try out its features, I like the venting and the flip down built in tinted sun visor and the way the helmet fits, I've read some mixed reviews on this helmet but mainly about wind noise, I ride mostly back roads and trails and a short distance to and from work; If weather permits, But for no more than this helmet cost I can deal with a bit of wind noise; If that's the case. Shane W: I like the design of this helmet. I also have friends with similar style helmets. On long ATV trips and when getting caught in the rain it is nice to not have a wet face from a traditional ATV helmet . The reviews helped by not have many complaints of it fogging up like other brands of with the dual design. Further more, no complaints of the vision being askew from the bend in the shield. I will post more later once I have this helmet and have a chance to give it a good review. Mar 10, 2014
Steven R: I chose this unit for its price point within the category of helmets designed for this type of riding. It reviews fairly well condsidering that it is not high end and allows me to get something more suited to my needs without necessarily having to dive into the deep end right off the bat. Mar 3, 2014
Rick V: I sent in my Arai XD3 last month to have the chin strap fixed to Arai USA. After them having the Helmet for a month I called them. They told me that they would not fix my frayed chin strap due to the liner being too compressed. I have never had a major crash with the Helmet, and they never called me to let me know that they would not fix it. So poor customer service and they would not fix a warranty problem. So why spend another 700 bucks on XD4. I am hoping for better value with the AFX FX-41 Mar 3, 2014
JOAO G: double visor Mar 2, 2014

ryan r: bang 4 buck, styling, dual sport/adv Feb 14, 2014
Shannon G: I bought this because I have been looking for a dual sport helmet and the drop down sun visor along with the low price caused me to decide on this helmet. The sun visor is more important than the price. I would have paid more for a better helmet that had a drop down sun visor if I had the choice. Feb 11, 2014

Hans K: My FX-37 from 2009 just needed to be replaced. Jan 27, 2014
Christian R: Although the FX-41 is a brand new model, reviews of the FX-39 helmet indicated AFX DS helmets to have a good quality. I like the unique look of the helmet and the fact that it has a retractable sun visor. Let's see what it feels like when I receive it. Jan 20, 2014
andrew f: I needed a new lid and ride both dirt and street so just simplified it Jan 19, 2014
John H: Aggresive styling for both adventure touring and off road riding. Liked the Revzilla video! Jan 14, 2014
John H: Wanted a different Dual/Sport helmet than the one I have and this one has some really nice features that I like. Been waiting for months for you to get it in. Jan 11, 2014
rholyn g: u guys are awesome on explaining the item using your videos also nice to have a pre order before a new item comes out hope to be a first to do a review for u guys see yeah back soon... need tires once wife oks it lol Jan 11, 2014
Anthony G: I like the bold lines and large viewing area of the helmet. The drop down tinted shield that is built in is icing on the cake. The resin that I bought from RevZilla was their website, online videos, price and return policy. A local shop could order the helmet for me in two days but they wanted a restocking fee if it didn't fit.

This is my first purchase with RevZilla and I liked their website right from the start.

Daniel F: Because its AWESOME Nov 1, 2013
Richard F: I need a dual sport helmet and this seemed to be the "swiss army knife" of helmets based on the description. I also liked the large amount of vents since I live in Texas. Now to wait for it to arrive and road test it. Oct 9, 2013
Jeff L: why not Oct 7, 2013

A shopper asked: Will the drop down sunshield only be available in light smoke? I was really excited about this helmet until that part of the review. The AFX light smoke does nothing to block normal bright light. I own 3 AFX helmets, and only the dark smoke shield has any effect. I was hoping to use this as a street helmet, but the drop down looks like the light smoke shield. Thanks, Greg. Sep 5, 2013

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (3) No (0)
Amber H: Yes the Sena SMH10 fits. I installed mine on the left vent intake and the battery just to the left side of the DOT sticker on the back. The batter is not centered but it fits the contour of the helmet at that location. It doesn't look bad at all. I'm picky when it comes to things like that, it has to look like it was meant to go there and it does. You will not be disappointed. Jan 31, 2014

A shopper asked: Does anyone know when this AFX FX-41 DS helmet will be available? Also, the helmet I have now (Fly Trekker) does not do well with eye glasses. I'd love to know if the padding in this new AFX is made to work well with someone with glasses. Thanks! Aug 26, 2013

A shopper asked: does any dust or dirt get in this helmet with the shield down? with all the ventilation points im kind of curious if any practicals can get in during road , also is there any shock or pull on the helmet when one turns their head to check behind them at highway speed (55mph+) due to the shape or does air flow smoothly? Sep 24, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
CHRISTOPHER F: I haven't had any problems with dirt or dust getting in. I bought it as a warm weather helmet because of all of the ventilation, and I have another helmet (Scorpion EXO 900 Transformer) for colder weather or rain. This helmet does pull a little at high speeds, so I'll wear the Scorpion for a lot of highway riding, but I've gotten used to the increased drag at high speeds so it doesn't really bother me. I also really like the better visibility of this helmet than my Scorpion - the eyeport is much bigger especially at the sides for your peripheral vision. The quick release buckle is nice, too. Chris V: All helmets will allow dirt in when riding in dusty conditions. Only correct fitting goggles with prevent that. But for casual riding on dirt roads this works pretty well. I have not used it at high speeds but based on its design it probably will buffet at high speeds as will any helmet with a visor/beak Oct 13, 2014

Sheldon B: Yes dust will get in threw the vents if there is dust in the air, yes there is pull onthe helmet when turning head at 55 mph , but no worse than any other helmet I do love this helmet and has been the bestvhelmet I havevowned and I have owned quit a few Sep 26, 2014

sam k asked: How does the afx 41 fit compared to the 39? I remember the 39 was on the large side requiring me to size down from what's marked on the size chart. Is it still the same? May 11, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Gregory P: I do not have experience with the AFX FX-39 helmet. I did recently buy the AFX FX-41. My head measurement was exactly 22" at the crown. I ordered the medium and it fits very well. Two more comments 1) I find very little wind buffeting effect with this helmet when riding my BMW R1200 GSA with the standard windshield. 2) there were comments in the reviews of wind noise, I find there is not added wind noise with this helmet vs. my Arai when wearing earplugs - which I always wear. Alan K: The helmet seems to be an appropriate sizing. I had the 39 and this same size helmet fits more snugly. One drawback is I find it hard to get the earpieces of my glasses to go over my ears as the helmet pushes in leaving no room. Other than that it is an excellent helmet and a very good upgrade from the 39. May 11, 2014

A shopper asked: I like vents, but i noticed the all the vents, when open, are facing upward. how does it preform in the rain? does it flood out? Feb 28, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
David W: I have yet to ride with it in the rain but certainly don't foresee any greater issue with vents than on any other helmet (ADV or other style). When you actually have the helmet in you hands and examine all the vents you'll see most are 'browed' or somewhat shielded when you look directly down onto the top of the helmet. Whether water will tend to accumulate in the vent openings, or flow into them with surface air flow effects is pure speculation. If it's raining that hard it's usually cool enough you would close the three main inlet vents and rear exhaust vents on the upper-part of the shell anyway. Feb 28, 2014

CHRISTOPHER F: I can't really answer that, because I bought this as a hot weather helmet because of all the vents. I have another helmet (Scorpion Transformer exo900) for cold or rain. But yeah, there are a lot of vents and it would probably be a pretty wet helmet. A great way around that, though, is to wear a hooded rain jacket with a nice thin hood that fits under your helmet. That'll stop a lot of the rain. Feb 28, 2014

Tony N: Good question! I've yet ridden in the rain with my new AFX FX-41 helmet this season...However, I've used the helmet in sub 32F temp weather with all the vents closed and I have not felt any air leaks or cold drafts. So, I assume it should also be water tide. At least I hope so, it should be. Feb 28, 2014

A shopper asked: Hello, looking at reviews of this helmet it is mostly men. I am a small girl 5'8 at 117lbs and have a smaller head. Will this helmet be too heavy for me? What is the weight? Do you have a ladies helmet that is similar? Thank you! Sep 30, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Simon V: It's no heavier than other helmets I have really, and lighter than my Shoei she ell approved. It's not a high speed helmet, more of a crushing Enduro all rounder. I think you will be surprised how strong your neck a tuLly is. There are carbon fi dr helmets but they are.10 times the price. Sep 30, 2014

Brian H: I can't answer in terms of weight, but I'm a 6' guy at 165 lbs and I wear a size medium and I find the helmet to be very light Sep 30, 2014

Allen A asked: I have a Bell Moto 9 Carbon XXL, in size how would the XXL size compare in the AFX? Aug 30, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Dan R: I really liked the look of this helmet, however, after reading others reviews, I knew I needed to actually put one on my head. Normally I buy XL sizes, GMax open face for putting around on a small trail bike and HJC full for racecar application.

I tried on the the AFX and found that the XL was just a tad too loose for DP bike application, so I went with the Large. I found the large pretty snug in my cheek area but it has wore in nicely. This helmet is hard to beat for the price and all its features if it fits properly.

My head is more round than oblong.

Simon V: Well Allen, I have a smaller size but it is smaller than other helmets I have in the same size range.
The padding can come fully out, so you could modify it a bitt I suppose??

Christopher O asked: The FX39 was in dire need of a chin curtain and since it didn't ship with one, you had to buy it separately. Is it the same deal for the FX41? I don't see a separate curtain for sale so will the 39 curtain fit? Mar 27, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Tony N: First off, I like the FX40 a lot. It's really a good helmet. You get a lot for your money!
The FX40 doesn't come fitted with a chin curtain. I don 't need it because I only use it during warm weather riding. Perhaps, the FX39 chin curtain may work. However, I don't know for sure.

Jerry M: I checked several other resources and came up short. Try doing some research and get back to ZLA with a part number if possible. Below is not a link (revzilla thinks its my email and doesnt allow that) but it will get you AFX customer service. They wont sell you parts but can certainly point you in the right direction.
