WAY better than I expected
I was expecting really terrible build quality based on other reviews, and while this isn't a Shoei or Arai, given the price point and the features of the helmet, it is really a very good buy. I am really pleased. For the most part the helmet feels solid, the vents feel a little cheap, but I only paid $130 for the helmet, the visor can't go up all the way if you have the peak down all the way, if you raise the peak a little it is fine though, plus I only paid $130 for the helmet, the padding isn't quite as comfortable as my Shoei Hornet that I had (I crashed offroad a few too many times, and this is my replacement helmet) but I only paid $130 for the helmet, the matte finish is good, the helmet is a LITTLE heavy but you only really notice it when you are holding it in your hands, plus I only paid $130 for the helmet, the click down visor that came with mine was already the dark tint and it can be a little difficult to get to come down all the way but the construction feels good and not to mention I only paid $130 for the helmet. If you are expecting a Shoei Hornet or Arai XD-4 you will be disappointed, if you are expecting bang for your buck this helmet is spectacular. And I would like to reiterate, as a whole the build quality is pretty good. I had the pleasure of riding it at speed today and it doesn't generate more noise than my shoei did and I didn't feel too much wind or buffeting on my head. Very good buy and I would buy another. My only complaint really is that it isn't Snell rated, but I did only pay $130 for this helmet.

3+ month delay - Broken out of the box
Can't write a legitimate review as the lid was broken out of the box. It's safe to say that I'm pretty upset by this. If it still wasn't ready, delay it again until you get it right, don't ship an inferior product.

That aside, the fitment is what I had read about the FX39, runs a little on the bigger side for XL, seemed to be very comfortable when on my head. Worth a note, the visor DOES NOT go all the way up like a normal full face helmet does, even at its highest, it was right in the top 20% of my field of view. What's worse is that it makes contact with the sun visor on the highest setting and that rubs on the visor, the plastic AFX cover is still on my faceshield and it's plain to see that in time, the visor itself will be scratched to heck. The fit and finish on this helmet is abysmal, it definitely feels like it's made in a sweatshop. The vents don't fully close and feel as if they'll snap off after 50 toggles. There are numerous manufacturing blemishes throughout, both on the shell and the vents, little plastic bits still hanging on from when they were made. Every plastic part on it squeaks and creaks like a hundred year old house. The sun visor on mine arrived cracked and looks like it was made out of Styrofoam. Pics of the mess are included, check them out and judge for yourself.

On the upside, it does look incredible and the built in sun shield works fine, even with glasses... but it too feels cheap.

This product was clearly not ready for full scale production. Give this one a few years and they might have something decent.

For the price, great helmet
First and foremost, if you are ordering this helmet expecting quality akin to something like Arai, Shoei, AGV, etc, you are going to have a bad time, so save yourself the trouble, and buy one of those. Keep in mind part of the reason you're looking at this helmet is the price, it's best not to be delusioned into expecting something you won't get.

Moving on.

I ordered this helmet after trying out a Fly Trekker for a bit and liking it, but it ran a little tight. A friend has the fx-39 (shares the same shell as the fly trekker) and since this is a direct successor to the 39 I decided to wait it out.

The helmet itself is very nice, but does run a bit on the large size, I chose an XL but maybe should've picked up a L. It does lack in the finishing details of things, the vents are made of cheap looking matte plastic, with some plastic casting burrs here and there, and they are not very easy to open.

The helmet is definitely on the loud side, but take one look at it and you should be able to realize that going in. It's not any louder than the fly trekker to me.

The peak works great, not much pull on the highway and blocks out the sun well, I like it better than the fly trekker.

The visor is clear but due to the 3D shape, 2 of the 5 visor positions are pretty much useless. It is also a lot easier to remove than the trekker or 39, due to no longer having to remove the peak to get the visor on or off. It is still no quick release system, which would've been nice, but a couple turns of the bolt and the visor comes right out.

Like it's little brother the 39, the 41 has a ratcheting chin strap instead of the typical dual 'D' rings you find on most helmets, and I'm hooked, it's so much easier than fumbling with the rings, making putting on or taking off the helmet, even with gloves, a breeze. It is one of those little details that immediately spoils you, and you look at your other helmet straps in disgust.

I am very satisfied with this helmet, and would definitely buy it again.

Great helmet dont listen to the picky people....
After looking at all the reviews, I was skeptical about getting this helmet. But what I kinda came to realize is that all the people giving it bad reviews are either insanely picky or have owned a 500$ helmet before. The helmet is not perfect. But as another reviewer mentioned... its $140ish! It does breathe very well... almost too well and part of the problem is the visor doesnt shut all the way. But all it takes is a little filling and itll work. AFX did a amazing job on the style of the helmet and threw some nice features into it such as the inside visor and a fast removable shield. The shield is kinda funky lookin but it serves it purpose very well. I wouldnt hesitate to buy this helmet again. Ive gotten countless of comments about the helmet saying i should paint it green and look like the dude from halo. I have the pearl white helmet and it looks amazing. but i say all this coming from a sparx nexxus. If your thinking about buying this and you know your a particular person, buy a shoei or aria or some other funky name fancy helmet. If your looking for a great cheap(er) dualsport helmet that has a couple of easy to fix flaws, BUY THE HELMET!

Awesome DS Helmet
I replaced an AFX FX-39 with this 41 and have been really pleased with my decision. When I bought the 39, I was a little leery because with helmets, you typically get exactly what you pay for. The 39 was a pleasant surprise because it was well put together, looked great, and came with some cool features like the ratcheting chin strap (which I now want for all of my other helmets).

The 41 is even better and I'd pull the trigger on the purchase again without hesitation. It kept the chinstrap design, shrunk the helmet down so it's more true to size (the large on the 39 was pretty loose [a common complaint with that helmet] whereas on the 41, the lid fits like a glove), added a functional retractable interior sun visor (so I can ditch the tinted goggles when I ride during daylight), included a much appreciated chin curtain which cuts down on the breeze quite a bit (the 39 was notoriously "well-vented." Ha), looks modern, and, though I haven't verified via scale, seems to weigh a noticeable bit less.

All in all, like with Scorpion helmets, you feel like you're getting a lot more helmet than you paid for. It's a steal at a shade over $100 and I see zero reason to even look at any other more expensive dual sport lids.

My opinion is based purely on comfort and convenience, though. I wear these things 5 days a week, 6+ hours a day so that's a hugely important factor when purchasing any dual-sport or MotoX helmet for myself. I've not yet had the chance to crash test it, but it feels like it would be up to the task. If I ever put it to use in that way, I'll certainly update with my finding.

AFX FX-41 DS
I loved the helmet as soon as I received it. The look and the fit. I had it for about a week, using it everyday and the flip down sun visor in the helmet kept popping off the lever that is used to flip it up/down. I would just pop it back into place and go on. Then one day it popped out and I could not get it back in place and then I finally realized it was because the lever had broken internally. So I called AFX and explained what had happened and the lady told me that it was a manufacturing defect and that they had a bad batch of those helmets made and said call revzilla and tell them that I needed to return it.

Other than that this helmet is awesome and has tremendous airflow (not such a good thing on chilly mornings.) excellent on hot days.

Noise is ridiculously loud with the wind coming in, but nothing that a pair of ear plugs can't fix!

All in all great helmet!

Great bang for your buck.
This helmet is more than the sum of its parts. First off, it looks awesome. I swear if it had a gold tinted visor folks would be calling you Master Chief. Fit is good and the sizing is spot on. Loaded with vents and the air circulation is good. Interior materials are better than expected for this price range. The flip down sun-visor rocks but the mechanism could work a little smoother. Now to the best feature. The ratchet style chin strap is one of the best things ever made. Once you use it you'll wonder why they even make the D ring style. That's the good. The bad? Well for the money spent there's not much to complain about. Sure the finish is not the best and the chin vent screen is junk (its starts coming off if you touch it) but that's about the only complaints I have. 4 Stars.

A great DS helmet...for the price.
We are talking about a sub $150 helmet, keep that in mind here. You really do get a ton for the money. Perhaps most importantly it fits good, and I love the quick release chin strap. I consider myself to have a big head and the XXL (based off the measurement chart) fits great.

I bought this helmet for more commuting use where I wouldn't be worried about getting it stolen if I left it out on my bike. Its super vented, the drop down visor is convenient, and the liner is easily removable to wash. The venting is so good, that it's going to be cool in sub 60* weather. I've ridden with mine down around 40* with a balaclava and I didn't mind it on a shorter ride.

Everything does feel cheap and plasticy though, from the peak to the visor. I bought the dusted black, which kind of looks like plastic so maybe that's part of the issue. Features are NOT a representation of the feel...visor is clear and doesn't leak (even in rain), the vent's actually close and open so you can feel the difference, and the strap allows ton's of adjustability. The overall look is awesome, very shapely and definitely not boring to look at...looks better than a lot of helmets 5 times the price The noise isn't far off from any DS helmet out there, meaning its not quiet but I can still hear music through my bluetooth. I had to trim a little bit of the molding to get my Sena SMH5 mounted just FYI.

not quite the quality i was hoping for, but what i expected...
I start by saying, that unless this helmet really wows me, I will most likely not buy another AFX product in the near future (this is based on principle, as the company continually pushed back the date for which the helmet was coming out, and this tarnishes my view of them).

Back to the actual helmet though, out of the box, it looked really clean, and was everything i had hoped, but as i examined it closer, it became more what I had expected to get than what I had hoped to get.

there were no cracks or dings out of the box, no scratches to mention, but upon closer inspection, there was some bits of plastic hanging from where the vents were attached, and on the underside of the sun visor there was excess plastic as well. when messing with the vents to see how sturdy they were, they seemed rather weak, and had trouble closing/opening all the way. I also was unable to open my shield to the max of its potential, because it would hit the sun visor, so in order to open it as far as it goes, i had to move the visor back about half way. the drop down tinted shield is kind of hard to operate, have to force it a bit.

This may seem like a negative review, but all these problems are minor in my opinion, the shields both function well, the finish is good with the exception of that little bit of excess plastic (which is easy to peel off), the vents work well enough if you force them, though i can't say how long they will last. the quick release chin strap is really nice, easy to remove padding on inside is also a big plus, for easy washing or replacement, and the visor, and shield hitting each other can be easily solved by moving the visor back a little.

I have seen the helmets stores sell for $80-100 that come with less vents, that are usually even worse than this helmets, the shields are janky and hard to open/close properly, padding you can't remove, plus no ECE stamp. yes, this helmet has some small issues and blemishes, but for the money i definitely think its worth it. (so far) As i have yet to be able to use it, what with it being winter, and snowy, and im not sure how long those vents will last if you open/close them a lot, but that is really the only thing I am concerned with having go wrong on the helmet.

OK helmet, poor QC
This is my first foray into the realm of budget helmets. I needed a new lid to replace my Arai Vector as it's out of it's service life and falling apart (amazingly comfy lid btw). I'm not intending on using this for long, only a few months until some new helmets I've been waiting on are released. With that in mind, here are my thoughts:

Fit: A little large. I wear a medium in most other manufacturers (Arai, AGV, Shoei), and I like my fit snug so the helmet doesn't bobble around (you know...proper fit). The medium AFX is pretty big and there is definitely some play right out of the box. My head measures just a tad over 58cm, so according to the size chart I thought medium would be fine. It fits, but wobbles a little more than other helmets I'm used to. I'm not sure if the small would fit better or not; just be weary.

Noise: It's louder than my previous helmet, but I wear earplugs or earbuds for any ride longer than 20 mins, so this doesn't bother me. I haven't heard any whistling or anything weird.

Venting and Airflow: Most of the venting comes up from the neck area, or in through the visor when cracked open. I get absolutely NO venting through any of the vents on the top or back. There is excessive hot glue plugging up the holes under the plastic vent pieces rendering the vents useless. Luckily enough air comes up from underneath that it hasn't mattered yet.

Vision: Shield is clear and distortion free for me. Sunshade works great and comes down nice and low. Just dark enough to block enough sun to make it comfortable, but not so dark it's hard to see in dusk/dawn situations.

Finish and Quality: Terrible. Glue over-applied everywhere, so much so that it has blocked all of the vent holes. Visor seal is crooked, and forehead liner attachment points are bent. In general, most fit tolerances are huge. Obviously there is little to no quality control within AFX, or they just don't care, because this helmet is a travesty in this department. Very disappointing.

Conclusion: I didn't expect too much out of this helmet for it's cost, and most things are forgivable for a low cost lid. The blatant lack of QC in the manufacturing process however is somewhat frustrating. Obviously, I don't expect this helmet to compete with other helmets 5x it's cost, but some BASIC quality control would have been nice. To have all of your vents plugged from the factory isn't acceptable in any helmet at any price. This is something I can't even fix as the holes are not accessible from the inside of the helmet. Other than that, it's about what I expected. Maybe I've been spoiled by my previous helmet, but I tried to keep my expectations low with this. It'll work for the next few months, then serve as a backup.

I really liked my AFX FX-39 helmet, but when it was time to replace it, I chose the FX-41 with the integrated drop-down sun visor. It's still a very light helmet, but the sizing is weird. It's a little loose (like I'm between sizes), so it buffets a lot on the highway, but it's otherwise comfortable for around town and dual-sporting, especially in the summer. Try one on first.

Got this helmet when it first came out. Gave it an honest try but it is just too large. It fits my head fine but the exterior is huge. Catches wind and rips head side to side. The front is long and awkward. I don't recommend it unless it's strictly used for dirt riding below 60mph

Price and looks was right
J O on Apr 22, 2016
For the aggressive look and it being under $200

The AFX FX-41 DS is a very beautiful helmet itself, and I chose this helmet due to its nice looks, as well its comfort. I'd highly suggest this helmet.

Looked really cool.

Price point and features (venting, strap, inner flip visor). Looks great. I'm a new rider and don't have a job yet (grad school).

Looking for a dual sport helmet and I liked some of the features in this helmet like the price, and flip down tinted visor.
scottl on Nov 28, 2015
This is my second AFX FX41. Bought this one for a friend. Love my white one, use it every day. I get people asking about it and it's features can't be beat for the money. Gets real loud on the highway but it's super vented so it's understandable for a $160 helmet
A S on Oct 20, 2015
Features for the price point
Roman S on Oct 17, 2015
A nicely styled helmet in the perfect price point. Way outclassed the other helmets I was looking at in the same price area.
Clarke J on Oct 6, 2015
I wanted a full face helmet with a larger opening to aid the side view. The dual sport helmet looks as though it will meet my needs.

What is the fit of a SENA SMH10 on this helmet?
Leon G on Oct 24, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I mounted up my SMH10 no problem and one on a SMH5, both will work.
just how dark is that flip down smoke inner shield? It appears to be much lighter than some I have seen in some other touring helmets for example
Darrin K on Sep 15, 2013
BEST ANSWER: It is actually much darker than it looks in the video i would say as dark as my Oakley grey lenses.
I have a Scorpion EXO 1100 size XL and when I compare the sizing charts of the AFX FX-41 DS and Scorpion helmets the fitment seems to be between a large and extra large. Are the head types the same and what would be the best fit compared to my Scorpion EXO 1100?

BEST ANSWER: REVZILLA GEAR HEADS WOULD KNOW - i ONLY KNOW ONE SIDE OF THAT EQUATION - SORRY!
Will the Sena smh10 fit on this helmet with the unique shape? I have concerns that it won't.
A shopper on Jan 4, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes the Sena SMH10 fits. I installed mine on the left vent intake and the battery just to the left side of the DOT sticker on the back. The batter is not centered but it fits the contour of the helmet at that location. It doesn't look bad at all. I'm picky when it comes to things like that, it has to look like it was meant to go there and it does. You will not be disappointed.
Will the drop down sunshield only be available in light smoke? I was really excited about this helmet until that part of the review. The AFX light smoke does nothing to block normal bright light. I own 3 AFX helmets, and only the dark smoke shield has any effect. I was hoping to use this as a street helmet, but the drop down looks like the light smoke shield. Thanks, Greg.
A shopper on Sep 5, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Not to worry! The AFX FX-41 internal sun shield can be changed to a dark smoke if desired.
How many shell sizes does AFX offer for this helmet? Thx.
407guy on Jan 8, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I Heard from the Revzilla guys that there are 2 shell sizes
Curious how the fitment is compared to say, a Shoei RF1100, is it comparable sizing/shape on the inside?
A shopper on Oct 15, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I'd say the rf 1100 fits more loosely than the racer r pro

I see people have asked about if this helmet can have the Sena SMH10 attached to it, but I have a 10C and was wondering if there is room in the helmet for the speakers and the boom mic? I couldn't tell in the video if there were speaker cut out pockets, or if there would even be room for the speakers. Thanks!
Allan B on Nov 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: What I can tell you is that I have the Motocomm MC-552, which is a mic (velcro in place, not a boom mic) and speakers for full face helmets that connect to a Motorola FRS radio handset, with a handlebar-mounted PTT switch. The mic fits in a generous space in the helmet chin. The speakers BARELY fit in the ear space in the padding, but they do fit. Can't comment specifically on the SMH10, but thought you'd at least have this reference.
I was wondering. If I were to take off the peak (I LOVE the streetfighter look of the AX-8 EVO Naked) will the screws fill the holes without sticking up to far? Also, could you guys maybe take a flat black one and take the peak off and post a picture? I would love to see how it looks without it.
A shopper on Oct 2, 2013
BEST ANSWER: On page 24 of the AFX helmet catalog there is a picture of one. Revzilla won't let me post a link to it, but it is under customer resources and catalog archives on the afx helmets websit
