AFX FX-39 Dual Sport Camo Helmet
A very good helmet for the price
I had this the marpat camo version helmet for about 6 months. I got tons of compliments on it, including from random motorists at stoplights. If you're looking for a helmet to flow lots of air on a hot day, look no further. It keeps the rain out reasonably well, too. I found the visibility of this helmet to be excellent, and overall it is a very comfortable helmet.
I did have a few complaints, though. This is a pretty loud helmet, and having no windscreen on my bike, I found the sun visor jerked my head around at highway speeds. It also looks pretty big on the head. As far as build quality, you get what you pay for. One of the vents broke shortly after I got the helmet, and after a few months some of vinyl was coming off in spots.
I did set my bike down at low speeds, and the helmet did an excellent job of protecting me. I ended up sending it back to the manufacturer (they study crashed helmets for future designs) and they sent another helmet of my choice for free. It's nice to have a company stand behind their product.

Great helmet for the money.
I see this as a great helmet for the value. Its by fay not the most comfortable helmet I own but for the price I'm very happy. Pros; great ventilation, good field of view & it fits true to size by (AFX sizing chart). I wear a 7 1/4" hat size and the medium fits perfect. Cons; padding is very thin and does little for comfort, quick release buckle (NOT a fan of) & it puts backwards pressure on my adamsapple, also the strap is a mile long but I just tuck it up the inside of the cheek padding. Keep in mind I am use to my $450 agv race helmet that feels like a pillow compared to this dual sport helmet. It holds a great value aka bang for the buck. Overall its a good value but I'd be a little happier if the padding wasn't lacking so and it wasn't so noisy. I have race helmets to dirtbike helmets and this thing does get the loudest over 50mph, hit 80mph for long and you're going to want ear plugs, which I don't like to use while on a bike. The 1st time I tried it on it reminded my of my downhill mountain bike helmet, not exactly what I was hoping for. Is it worth it? For the price and ventilation factor I say yes! FYI I was riding this both on road and off on my Honda XR650R.

I chose this helmet largely based on the reviews and Anthony's high regard for this helmet. My previous helmet was a GMAX GM54S modular helmet which I originally purchase for riding a V-Strom. I've swapped the bike and moved on to a Dual-Sport bike. As such the type of riding I do has changed from mostly tarmac to mostly to dirt roads and trails. While the GMAX really shined on nice smooth roads, it was clunky with a limited amount of vision when used off-road. That's where the FX-39 really shines. The helmet is extremely light by comparison and for the money. It has great ventilation and the vents are easily reached and operated while on the move. As it does not have a chin curtain, you go get more air infiltration at that point. When it's warmer out that's probably great but here in western Colorado, we're still topping out in the 40's. As mentioned by others, the chin strap entirely too long. I can't imagine what the human being would look like that needed a strap that long. If you want a great helmet for the $$, pull the trigger on this one.

I was looking for a helmet that had a cool factor and something that was different. This helmet was perfect. For under a $120 you can't beat this. I got it in matte black, added a sliver shield and it looks Sweet!
Looks is a A+. Helmet feels sturdy. Air flow through vents is good.
My only cons are its a loud helmet and the MX peak at times starts to lift the helmet, but I don't think this helmet was made for the freeway blasting in the 1st place
Overall I love this helmet. I will be ordering another for sure.

Helmet fits great. Vision is very wide. Vents work well. This is my first helmet so I didn't 5 stars as I haven't tried any other helmets. There is room for the Sena SMH10 or the SMH5 Intercom. I haven't mounted the units, but had fitted the Speakers and Mic in the helmet at the bike shop. When the AFX FX-41 DS becomes available I will buy one.

Good performance for the price
I got this as my first dual sport helmet. Fits nicely and I really like the look. Unfortunately after 3 months of use, I was involved in a road accident when a car cut across me in a junction. Broke my hand, had abrasions and bruises all over, whiplash injury and sprained my knee. Thanks to the quick release and fit, paramedics were able to remove my helmet without much problems and pain. The helmet did not have any visible structural failure; only scratches on the impact site. Today, my hand still needs therapy but the helmet looks like it can be used again. I will definitely recommend this and may get the same one again.
- nice design
- fits nicely
- visor is optically correct and things look clear
- good ventilation in tropical climate
- shell looks huge on the head
- a tad noisy
