New motorcyclist in early 2012. This was a good choice for a starting helmet. Sub $300 mark: excellent choice.
I read reviews, before buying this helmet, that said some customers sent the helmet back because the sun-glass visor warped one's vision a bit, and I believe that one person said that "It felt like it was ripping my ears off."<br><br>As for the sun-glass visor, they're correct in that it is not perfect. It has a slight inconsistency in the way it lets light through, of which took a little to get used to. However, it took about 10 minutes before it didn't bother me anymore. It's a very handy feature for a person who wears prescription glasses. If you know you want perfection, go for the $300+ mark and save yourself the time.<br><br>With the "... ripping my ears off." comment: there is also some truth to this. I've noticed that other full-faced, but non-modular, helmets are built to let the ears pass the cheek guarding portion of the helmet with little, to no, effort. The cheek guards are more form-fitting on this helmet, and I have learned that if I put the helmet on while pulling slightly outwards on the cheek guards, I have no problem getting my ears in comfortably. The face shield DOES HAVE TO BE OPEN to put the helmet on, at least in my experience.<br><br>I bought this helmet according to the sizing guide, and it does fit a little snug, but I like that. The chin strap works very well for me, though it started out too long. I was able to cut it to size, and keep it from fraying by melting the very end with some short swoops of a lighter's flame.<br><br>By the way, I got the White version, and I take loving pride in the fact that others have observed that I look like a "New Age Storm Trooper."

Fantastic Winter helmet.. with a few quirks
This is a fantastic helmet overall. I love the design and it is very comfortable. The only thing I don't like is that the deployable sunshield never goes all the way up, it hangs a little in your vision and is annoying. The padding is good and comfortable however the skull padding and cheek padding don't seem to compare perfectly; the skull padding fits looser than the cheeks. The seal around your head and under your chin is very good and makes it quiet.<br>This is definitely a WINTER helmet; the strong seal and lowish airflow do not suit summer riding well but will keep you warm in the winter.<br>Other reviews comment on the quality being lesser but I have found that not to be the case. I will be buying another one of these when It needs replacing, I do wish it had a bit more airflow though. Seems very light for a modular helmet.<br>Looks fantastic with the silver mirror face shield.

Quiet, with great peripheral view
CON: A bit heavy if you are used to a super lightweight helmet<br><br>PRO: Cool Euro-look. Super quiet (considering it's a modular). The visor bends around the helmet so far that there is absolutely zero obstruction in your peripheral vision. Plenty of venting at speed, yet it's great for winter riding if you close all the vents.<br><br>NOTE: I like that the modular front rotates up and over the helmet and rests on the back (although you can't ride with it like that for very long unless you've got a Vin Diesel neck, too much weight at the back)

Looks nice but ran small
The helmet has a lot of nice features, plenty of side padding and looks really cool but, the sizing ran small. After viewing the store review and reading other comments that it ran large I ordered a medium even though I'm at the upper end of the measurements (I measure 23" exactly). I could get it on, but it was so tight across my forehead that it left a deep impression and gave me a headache after only a few minutes. Also because it was so tight the edges of the plastic in the back of the helmet liner pressed into the back of my head making it just too uncomfortable. Unfortunately this one has to go back for a refund because I needed it for a planned ride and couldn't wait for a replacement, hopefully the refund process will be painless.

Fair Pricing, Fair quality.
CONS: The left pivot of the visor was slightly loose upon arrival, this problem worsened until the left side of the visor detached from the helmet. To remedy this I pried loose the panel covering the pivot and screwed the pivot back into place, tightly. The visor now seals more securely against the weatherstripping and clicks into position as firmly as it should. Wearing the chin-bar all the way back is uncomfortable and therefore not recommended. The vent switches are difficult to toggle at first (gotta break them in). The sun visor is not optically correct. I would recommend trying to find one that is. It doesn't come with proper instructions for changing any of the visors.<br><br>PROS: The helmet is quite aerodynamically correct. Turning my head at 50mph yields very little instability (That's as fast as I've had to go up to this point in time). The chin bar snaps into place very firmly. Finding the vent switches with gloves on isn't a difficult task. The visor stays adequately fog free. There is a crevice between the chin cushions and the temple cushions that allows me to wear my glasses in comfort. Plenty of ear-space. Ratcheting chin-strap is superb.<br><br>And lastly, I think it looks cool. It kind of reminds me of a Gundam head. Go ahead, image search it.

very good for the price.
I like the helmet it seems to fit and the pull down shield is convenient. It does seem a bit heavy but I haven't worn a helmet for over 25 years.

good buy
This helmet is exactly what I wanted. The fit is perfect and the flip up front changing it from a full face to a 3/4 will be great on warmer days. Minor fogging while stopped quickly goes away once you start moving.

I got the Large size model and it prefect for me. A little heavy on the front, but not a deal breaker. I wear glasses and in south Florida having the built in sun visor is good thing.

Fantastic Helemt
This is a great helmet period! The fit is quite good and very comfortable. After a long ride there were no aches or pains. Air flow is really nice for me; it flows enough to prevent the visor fogging up and keeps my face relatively cool without being cold. The internal sun shade is great for bright days saving time from having switch visors all of the time. It can be a bit noisy at speed but to me that just comes with the territory of riding a motorcycle so it doesn't bother me.<br><br>The only slight issue I experienced was the screws that secure the flip-up portion of the helmet came loose a few times after riding, but nothing a little blue locktite couldn't fix in under 10 minutes.<br><br>I recommend this helmet to anyone! I bought this really as a relatively inexpensive 1st helmet and do love it and would definitely buy another!

Great so far
I received the helmet from revzilla very quickly afx sizing chart seems to run a little tight I have a 60.5-61 cm head and I ordered a large it fits fairly tight but should hopefully break in that 10% if you don't like tight helmets or get headaches easy order one size larger I also noticed on the helmet it had a sticker saying the large was a 59-60 cm not a 60-61 like the website shows also afx does not recommend you ride with the chin bar in the back position idk why they send a card saying it should only be ridden with the helmet in the closed and locked position I haven't tried it so I don't know as for shape I have a oval head shape and this helmet is good for me I also can wear head phones or ear buds rather the type that go in the ear not over while the helmet is on the sun visor is an awesome addition it comes down a lot further then I thought from looking at pictures it almost touches my noise so sun should not be an issue I ordered the flat black I love it so far I also think it looks much cooler in person the shape is not as awkward as it looks online and the ratcheting chin strap is awesome much quicker and easier once you get the hang of it

Occasionally I ride with a more mature crowd for some light sport touring and modular style helmets are nice for talking with the other gent's at stop signs and inner sections gas stations and those types of situations. My previous modular helmet was literally falling apart from prolonged use and daily commuting to work so it was time for a new lid. After a thorough search and many video reviews later I decided to try this helmet out, I will review the helmet after I try it out extensively.

I could not resist the esthetic design of this helmet, looks futuristic! Besides it's difficult to smooch a babe wearing a full-face helmet :-)

well it has some really nice features and not so expensive. Besides I'm a little bit claustrophobic, so the modular helmet is a must for me. Hope it gets here by tuesday. Thanks!

Looking for comfortable modular helmet I can use my uclear Bluetooth with and not create pressure points on sides of my head after wearing for 45 mins. Present helmet is a 3xl and without speakers installed after wearing for 45 mins have to take off due to pressure on side of head is painful. Hopefully this helmet will resolve this issue.

BEST ANSWER: Modulars are DOT not snell rated because of the chin bar. It is just plastic. Not very strong. Do not drop this helmet.
How difficult is it to open the visor/vents with gloves on?
A shopper on Jul 8, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The top vents have not been an issue at all with gloves. However my gloved hands do occasionally slip off of the smaller and thin tab for the front vent. The visor can be difficult when opening, with my gloved fingers slipping similar to the front vent tab, but closing has yet to be a problem.
sizing. I have a big melon and also need to get it on / off with my glasses. should I go with xl. I weaR 7 3/4 HAT.?
A shopper on Jun 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: dear big melon

the helmet is great the functionality of modular makes riding more enjoyable.

i wear glasses as well and you can put them on after helmet is on

the modular option makes it easy to switch from eyeglasses to sun glasses

sizing ran true to sizing descriptions
How do you replace the face shield?? I want to install a anti-fog insert. Thanx.
A shopper on Oct 20, 2013
BEST ANSWER: You have to remove the two vanity plates on the side of the helmet. They are locked into place with two L tabs each. Simply pull them up and they will snap out of place. My first time doing this, I thought they were going to break. You may have an easier time with a thin flat-head screwdriver to push the L tabs inward while prying the plates up with your free hand. The visor itself is then locked in place with a flat-head screw. Remove the screw and pull the black round locking mechanism out of its space. The visor will slip right off without issue. Installation is reverse. Do be mindful of the teeth on the black round locking mechanism and the direction they face when removing or you may not be able to open/close your visor completely if not installed the same way. Simply pop the vanity plates back into place.
I need a new helmet for a long trip I'm about to take . Locally I do not have many choices . Every helmet fits feels different hard to buy over internet . I tried on a scorpion EXO900X Large was very tight , XL felt good. How would this AFX size up with this comparison ?
A S on Feb 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The sizing chart was spot-on for me. Keep in mind that you do want the helmet to fit a bit tight, as the padding will break in with use and naturally loosen up for a more relaxed fit. A new helmet that fits loose, will eventually be very loose with use.
