What is going on with this shoddy key? I'll reiterate what everyone else says, it takes a lot to get the alarm to ring. I've only heard the alarm ring once, I've tried to intentionally set it off a few times. But this doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the freaking key. There is something really wrong with the key for this thing. I'm not sure if mine was cut improperly or this occurs across all of the same model, but first of all, it takes a few tries to even get the key into the key hole. Even breaking the threshold doesn't happen smoothly every time, you have to make sure the slit is fully horizontal and not turned a bit. The key also seems to want to catch onto something so it is hard to insert fully at times. And when I do successfully insert it, sometimes it doesn't even turn until I wiggle the key around and/or just pull it out completely and reinsert it to try again. Based on this one experience with their key problems, I will probably not buy anything from this company again. January 12, 2015
Works well as lock, alarm is not sensitive. Works fine as a disc lock, but as others have noted, the alarm is very insenstive. Someone could definitely sit on the bike or move the wheel quite a bit before it goes off. Here's a video of me setting off the alarm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9McaxuJB7o November 24, 2014
Functions well The unit comes with a case and warning lanyard, is conveniently easy to activate or not activate the alarm feature... September 16, 2014
Okay Like all the other reviews say, it is not very sensitive, if someone really tried to move the bike, it would go off. But it will not go off from just a neighborhood kid touching bike. It is also not very loud, but enough to provide annoyance to the bad-guy for sure. I was looking for something not over sensitive, so this is okay with me, got what I bought. I may be having a little buyers remorse as I watch the kids playing on the street... It does seem hefty, would probably take a while to knock off the disk, bad-guy would be better off taking the assembly off. Provides effective crime-of-opportunity deterrence, but will not stop a professional, nothing will really... The locked but no alarm position is a good feature and great for transport. The reminder cable is pretty flimsy looking and feeling I am sure will break in no time. Came out of the box with scuff marks all over it, not one to care too much, so I did not do anything about it, but it colored my opinion of the overall product. September 2, 2014
Hard to activate the alarm Have read the reviews and knew this alarm is not very sensitive. That was what I want because I dont want it goes off because of a cat or wind. You really need a big impact to the lock otherwise it wont give you any alarm. I was glad I pick until 2 weeks ago someone rode on my bike to feel how is it like and dropped the brand new bike on ground!! I never dropped it!!! If the lock is more sensitive, I think when those people touch my bike, the alarm would scare them out. Now I consider replacing the lock. August 3, 2014
It's ok Priced right but the alarm doesn't seem to be very sensitive... Or very loud Comes with a little bag and "reminder" lanyard tho so that's cool. Other than that just a standard disk lock June 30, 2014
Pretty tough lock This lock feels extremely tough, it's heavy and it feels like it could take a lot of punishment. The alarm is pretty loud, and the option to lock it without activating the alarm is pretty handy (it beeps loudly when you activate it, so you don't have to worry about leaving it off by mistake). overall a good purchase that gives me some piece of mind leaving my bike around town. Loud, but needs a lot of movement to trigger This is my second alarmed disc lock. It's easier to put on than the Abus 8077 I have on my other bike, but it is also noticeably less sensitive to movement. Relatively light movement will set off the 8077, but i need to move this one quite a bit for it to start the alarm. It was also about ninety bucks less, so I think that's to be expected.
