not so good
First the good: the sound is deep and certainly louder but not too loud. The headers are higher up and tucked in if cornering is what you are into and this is a distinct improvement over the OEM. Easy to install.
Now to the bad: The finish is turned by the exhaust heat pretty quickly. The header pipes get a brownish/grayish hue but certainly NOT black. I combined these pipes with the Fuel Pack and did not like the result. Ran too lean and had to really keep the revs higher to access the grunt. Low speed character is rougher, just not as smooth as stock.
These are coming off after one year and the Basani's are going on. Let you know.

Good Choice for the Harley XR1200x
Vance and Hines makes some decent exhaust pipes and these are no exception. V&H techs told me there is no difference in performance between the stainless steel and the black metal. Since black matches my bike better I decided to go with the black metal version. The pipes have an great sound and can be loud so go easy on the gas in the neighborhoods. People have complained the black paint seems to chalk from the heads but they can easily be repainted with heat quality paint. You can't paint the stainless pipes to hide any bluing. My only complaint is V&H doesn't make a heat guard for the pipes. Not too much of an issue if you ride with leathers and boots.

Great sound, but finish doesn't hold up.
I just purchased a 2010 XR1200 with these pipes. Love everything about them, except for the finish failing on the headers. Looks like the heat is burning the coating off and as a result a little rust has developed.
