SW-MOTECH Skid Plate BMW R1200RT

Whether you are getting stuck in the mud or running in a desert rally, the SW-MOTECH Skid Plate is a great piece of protection for your motorcycle’s fragile underbelly.

These skid plates are laser cut from a highly-durable aluminum alloy - 4.0mm thick aluminum is used for the base plate and 2.5mm thick aluminum is used for the side plates. The base plate is meant to take any direct impact and the side plates wrap around the engine block to provide both bottom and side protection. Unlike other skid plates which are welded together at the folds, these skid plates are held together by the same punch-rivet technology found on most modern german cars.

SW-MOTECH works closely with multiple motorcycle manufacturers on designing many OEM accessories. The information gathered from this is directly carried over into the design of SW-MOTECH products. This means SW-MOTECH products fit as good or even better than stock equipment.

Includes a cut-out for oil drain bolt to allow for easy oil changes.

IMPOSSIBLE INSTALL!
This skid plate for my (2015 R1200RT) proved to be an impossible installation. Mounting the 1 front and 1 mid engine hangar brackets was fast and easy. The machine quality of these parts is superb. It's possible to mock fit the vary large rock guard and see the fit and finish is superb. All the mounts hole line up perfectly sans the rear most hangar bracket.Unfortunately, this is where the difficulties arise. Mounting the rear hangar is a nightmare.

The aft cross tubular frame member (running from left to right just behind the driver foot pegs) is approximately 3/8"- 1/2" below the base of the engine. Within this limited gap space, installation requires the balancing of 2 upper journal style mounts into which the lower half of the journal must be installed to effectively sandwich around the cross member. Upon those 2 upper mounts, a small nylock must be "glued" into place using heavy grease, with the only other assistance provided by gravity. Keep in mind that the only pressure to keep these mount halves and the perched nylocks in place is the grease and downward force of gravity. I attempted to place some resistance upon the nut, but this only serves to turn the journal around the cross bar, especially given the extremely tight space from above. Ultimately, I found it impossible to use any tool to assist in the resistance of the upward force necessary to marry the components from below.

To make the install even tougher, the lower section components must be merged and installed in unison from below! This means: A 2"+ allen bolt with flat washer + the large hanger bracket + the lower plastic crossbar journal sandwiched. While holding with your left hand, you must line the allen bolt/bracket sandwich assembly (while peering through the center stand assembly). If you are lucky enough to get this far, the allen bolt needs to gain purchase with the nylock resting in position with no downward force against this nut. IMPOSSIBLE. I quit. Items returned.
Sorry I didn't take photos of this ordeal...I was too frustrated and my fingers were covered in grease due to these installation requirements!
If you develop a method (other than removing the engine mounts to provide more space from above) please post a video. This could be a superb product to protect your pipes from damage.

So the only review is a complaint that it's impossible to mount the rear bracket... can anyone say that it actually can be installed by one person?
