SW-MOTECH Quick-Lock EVO Side Case Racks Ducati Multistrada 1200 / S

The SW-MOTECH Quick-Lock EVO Side Case Racks are second-to-none when it comes to versatility, strength, and ease of use. SW-MOTECH has taken their world famous Quick-Lock Original Side Case Racks and stepped up the design with a more robust, oval steel rack that has an even more narrow profile, compared to the originals. The racks can be taken off the bike in less than 30 seconds with just a flat head screwdriver. Simply turn the quick-release fasteners on each side and you’re done. With the racks removed, only the small mounting brackets remain visible on either side of the bike. The welding processes used in the manufacturing of these racks are EN certified to the same standards as rail vehicles.

With the addition of luggage-specific adapter kits (sold separately), these rack can be used with cases made by Givi (Monokey), TraX Alu-Box, Pelican, Micatech V2, Kappa, Shad, Hepco-Becker, Krauser and more. They are ideal for the occasional weekend tourer who desires a "stealth" look during the week, as well as the weekday commuter who needs an unencumbered machine for spirited weekend fun.

Note: Top case rack, top case, and side cases sold separately.

Needs License Plate Holder modification...
I have done multiple long distance trips on my 2014 Multistrada 1200S with my son on my Street Triple R; invariably its me that has to carry all our gear while he rides "free".

The standard 58L panniers on the Multi are not a total disaster, but I found I was always really squeezing things in, struggling to close them and then everything fell out when I just wanted a bottle of water. On our last trip we had a little rain and the panniers weren't completely watertight. So I resolved to buy some aftermarket panniers.

Touratech are the "go to" panniers for ADV riders but they aren't cheap (especially as I have to pay tax on them in WA) and most importantly the racks are permanently mounted to the bike which is not what I want when I'm not touring. Instead I snagged the SW-Motech Quick-Lock EVO Racks in a sale here with a view to buying the new Trax ADV panniers when next season comes around.

Overall, I'm happy with the racks: the basic mounting was easy, the instructions are clear enough, all the various bolts fit correctly and the powder finish on the racks is great. Once mounted, they seem very sturdy to me. Installation and removal of the racks with the quick lock mechanism is fast and the bolts are held onto the racks so you don't lose them, and you don't notice the mounting points when the racks are off; perfect.

My one niggle, and hence the 4 stars, is that the US standard license plate holder doesn't fit over the tail mounting bracket, the side reflectors get in the way. After confirming this problem with RevZilla and SW-Motech, I took a hacksaw to the license plate holder and carefully cut off the reflectors, then cut away the top part of their mounting so that the plate holder would fit over the bracket and then remounted the reflectors on the bottom part of their mounting. All done, all legal.

I reviewed both SW-MOTECH and Touratech panniers for my Multi. I was close to going with Touratech despite the additional costs (and sales tax in WA) but saw the new EVO ADV panniers from SW-MOTECH and that flipped me. Plus these have Quick Lock so that I can remove the racks when I'm not using the panniers.

Hi I have a 2014 Pikes Peak, and thinking of purchasing this rack. Problem, I have fitted an R&G tail tidy as to remove the back number plate holder. I have noticed that there is a u shaped bar that mounts under the number plate directing forward. Wondering if side brackets are enough to keep it sturdy or if there is an extension bracket for the rear. ?
Thanks.
