Top Notch Protection for Us Hooligans
3 days after installing this cage (installation was quite easy and only took about an hour) I may have gotten a bit throttle happy in a wheelie and may have looped the bike. As I watched it crash over on its side, I dreaded the worst. I picked up the bike and to my amazement, this cage did its job exceptionally well. Short of a slightly twisted handlebar there was absolutely NO damage to the bike.

Comparatively, not too long before installing the cage, a light tip in the mud destroyed my radiator. Absolutely worth the price.

Be careful if you ride a KLR650
Top Frame Bolts should be carefully removed because the frame can slip and you CANNOT get the bolts back into the frame nut. If you follow directions the right side nut may not align with the new or existing bolt because the frame actually moves and with a one man operation it is all but impossible to move the back of the bike enough to thread the top right frame bolt. I had to cut new threads just to get the bike back on the road. Let Kawasaki do the install. I will ultimately need to replace the frame bolt and this will cost over a grand. Live and learn. The product is a great set of crash bars but on the KLR installation was EXTREMELY difficult.

Crash protection and vibration damping in one package.
Very well made. Well worth the expense. Relatively easy to install, beefs up the subframe slightly, and dampens out some of the buzzies above 4,000 rpm. Do they work? Yep. Dropped my bike on 'em several times now, all in the dirt exept one, in the driveway. The frickin' sidestand-being-too-long issue caught up with me on day in a sickening dead slam into concrete. All I gots is scratches. I think these are the best bars you can get for you KLR. Pair it up with the Motech skid plate. Nice combo.

Great bars for KLRs; buddy field tested his
I and a buddy put the SW-Motech crash bars on my 2017 KLR 650 and his '16 KLR recently. In both cases, the frames on our KLRs slipped a skoosh when removing the upper subframe bolt. On his, we could get the bolt hole in the subframe aligned with the mounting point for the crash bar by one of us tugging upward on the frame. Mine slipped far worse, necessitating the use of a pry bar to coax the subframe into position. A floor jack is another option if you have one available.

Each install took about four hours and it's mucho easier as a two-person job. We removed the fairings when doing his '16 KLR and just loosened the fairings on my '17 as snaking his fairings past the crash bars to reinstall was a challenge. The bolt securing the lower left fairing can be a challenge to reach, post-crash bar install.

The bars are rock solid and look great. No vibrations. The directions were light on text, but the diagrams were very clear. Overall, the directions were easy to follow and made sense, unlike what you get from Happy Trails.

Two weeks later, we were on a ride and he hit a patch of oil and went off the road at about 40 mph, going down in the dirt. The crash bars did their jobs as lower fairings were unbroken; the top fairings both cracked. (He came out slightly worse the wear, thanks to wearing the proper gear.). Only damage to bars was clamp on lower right slightly loosened. Impressive.

Awesome Crash Bars
These bars look awesome on my KLR650 and feel really sturdy. While I have not "tested" these bar (and hope not any time soon).

I can say that the install was relatively easy once I removed the gas tank.

For the price and what you get they are a great buy!

Really like these bars!
These particular bars were recommended to me by a friend. I was impressed with the fit and finish. They are heavy, so if the bike falls over rest assured they will do their job and protect the bike. I had some minor trouble installing the bars the first time, but now that I've done it once, I could do it again in half the time.

Great looking bars, can be tricky to install
After eyeing these bars for a while, I was able to get them for 20% off and pulled the trigger. Reading the reviews, was definitely a little concerned about installing myself (mainly subframe slippage), but overall it wasn't too bad. Took me about 2.5hrs (3 beer job) from end to end. Aligning everything can be a bit tricky, causing me to have to redo things a couple times. Also was super careful when removing the right side subframe bolt, having the replacement all queued up and ready to insert immediately.

Overall these bars look great, feel very strong/polished, and would definitely recommend. Just make sure to be careful with those subframe bolts!

good for the money
I put them on my new 2016 KLR. I found the install relative easy, I guess I was lucky as the frame did not slip. The directions were written well and straight forward. They look very nice on the bike and the shipping department must have a bubblewrap contract as everything was wrapped soundly...nothing could have harmed them in transit. They seem strong and sturdy.

Easy to install and look great.
These were very easy to install and look great on my KLR650. They seem very sturdy and strong but hope that I do not have to test out how strong they are. These look and fit like they are OEM pieces and most people think they are. Can't go wrong with these.
