SW-MOTECH Blaze Saddlebag System Yamaha FZ-07

The SW-MOTECH Bags-Connection Blaze Sport Saddlebag System offers an innovative way to mount soft saddlebags onto sport-style motorcycles. The system features mounting arms that quickly attach to the motorcycle and then slip into channels located on the backside of each bag. These arms make installation a breeze and support the bags to prevent side-to-side movement and potential contact with the exhaust or rear tire. The mounting arms detach quickly to retain the stock look of the motorcycle when the bags are removed. The SW-MOTECH Bags-Connection Blaze Sport Saddlebags feature durable YKK RC-Fuse zippers and are expandable from 14 to 21 liters per bag.

Features:

  • Made from high quality 1680 ballistic nylon
  • Volume 14-21 liters per saddlebag
  • Solid panniers prevent contact between saddlebags and tires
  • Quick lock pannier bracket
  • Main compartment with top loading function and outside pocket with side loading function
  • Reflective trim
  • RC-Fuse Zippers
  • 2 Year warranty

Nice little addition
So first of all, huge shout out to Revzilla! I ordered these Thursday morning and they were at my door Friday night!

As for the bags I'm pretty happy with them. They are a little smaller than I expected, but too much bigger and I don't think they would fit my FZ 07 as well. Install took me about an hour, could have been quicker if I actually organized my tools. Hardest part was getting my passenger pegs off because Yamaha did a great job of making sure they were secure.

After installing I immediately went to the store and picked up a couple of six packs of soda and 8 bottles of powerade. Had to expand the bags but they all fit fine. Then took it on some fast and twisty roads, bags didn't move at all. The clip from the bags to the brackets does its job.

I'm looking at going on a 4 day trip to socal soon (1000 miles round trip or so) and these seem to be perfect for what I'll need.

I really like the minimalistic mounting brackets that don't ugly up my bike if I don't ride with the bags. The bags look good on and feel pretty sturdy for soft bags.

Decent kit, but disappointed on a few longevity/build quality issues.
I bought this set up for an FZ-07.

Everything fits together very well, so Ease of Install gets a 5. People complaining about breaking the plastic bits must be very hamfisted. I was worried about that after reading reviews, but the plastic bits seem to have a very nice amount of flexibility to them. No problems there.

Style gets a 5 because the size of these bags seem like they were cut specifically for an FZ-07.

My main concern is how the parts will hold up to the elements. The hardware is not stainless,so I am sure that will rust. On my specific bike, they do not include longer bolts where you sandwich the mounting brackets behind the passenger footpeg bracket. The supplied bracket is about 5-6mm thick. It only leaves you with about 5 or 6 threads engaged back in to the frame. For the cost of the kit, I think stainless hardware and two extra bolts would have been affordable for SW Motech.

Also, the plastic receptacles for the stabilizer bars are three-sided. Meaning, they are "C" shaped, and not a complete receptacle. The frame bracket makes up the "back wall" of the bracket, which is fine...except the bracket is steel. So I can see the finish being rubbed off and rust forming there, too. Again, aluminum brackets would have fixed this and would not be out of line in this price range.

My biggest complaint is the raw, rough ends of the metal tubes used on the stabilizer bars. They are rather rough and not even slightly rolled over. It would only be a short matter of time before they chew their way through the pockets they slip in to, thus allowing the bags to eventually slide all over the place. I picked up two rubber bumpers from a hardware store to fix this, but again, SW Motech should have tossed in two $0.50 end caps for us.

The bags seem well made, though the zippers are much lighter than the ones on my Cortech bags. The material is not as thick as my Cortech's either. These aren't bad nags, but they are not top of the line, either.

I was worried about the plastic "buttons" you use to release the stabilizer bars. I was curious if they would hold up, or snap off and eventually leave the whole system useless. However, that button is actually just for looks as there is a nice metal spring behind it that actually does the work, so good job there!

Would I buy them again? Nope. I had a brand new bike and I needed luggage NOW. Had it to do over again, I would've just figured something out with my Cortechs. The quick disconnect stabilizers are nice, but in the future I would not pay more than $30-40 for them, considering the hardware needs to replaced, the brackets will eventually rust and the arms have rough, un-capped ends on them. This was my first SW Motech product. I'll be very hesitant to buy their products in the future. IMO, it's mediocre build quality at top level pricing.

Nice looking watchout for the plastic bits
separatelyFirst off I love these and have already recommended them to friends. They are great if you want something that you can slip on and off without having your bike looks like something is missing when they are off. Easy to install mostly on my FZ-07 but the instructions are a little bit lacking.

The one thing I really don't like is the plastic clips for the standoffs. But that is mostly just me not paying the proper amount of attention when putting them together. I over tightened the nuts and pulled the bolts right through the plastic brackets. I haven't been able to tell if this is a part you can order separately so right now I'm just using lock ties to hold the two bolts I messed up on. As this is a piece of the kit that would seem to get a lot of work out as you slip the bags on and off, it really should be something you could order separately. And of course if you have a knack for torking down bolts to tightly. ;) Buy them you will like them.

Are these saddlebags compatible with a tail tidy (fender eliminator)? i.e. would you still be able to see the blinkers?
Travis V on Aug 3, 2015
Yamaha suggest not to use saddle bag system with Akrapovic exhaust system.
Has anyone fitted the saddlebag system to their MT07/FZ07 with an after market exhaust system?
A shopper on Oct 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Owning the bike and the Akrapovic Titanium exhaust, I can't imagine any way this bag system would interfere with it. The exhaust on this bike is so low, there is no way that it would come close to touching, burning, melting or anything to these bags. I have no idea why Yamaha would advise against saddle bags. Granted I do not own the saddle bags, but I own the other two parts of the three part puzzle. :P so take my answer with a grain of salt, but I don't think the pictures of the bags would lie and I'm telling you there is no way they will ever come in contact with each other.
So this comes with the bags and the brackets?
A shopper on Apr 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes everything you need comes with this set up. It looks good on the bike and the brackets remove if you want to ride with out the bags. I highly recommend this set up.
