major design flaws
This rack plate looks great and fits my Givi Trekker top case nicely however it has two major design flaws related to strength. The first is the three quick release twist pins that attach it to the aluminum plate - they are weak and eventually get loose. I had to replace them with stainless steel bolts. The second is the two corner pins that the top case hooks into - the plastic area where the pins are attached is thin and all it took was hitting a decent pothole for them to self destruct, game over. This is not covered by warranty apparently, so I had to buy a new plate. I'm looking into ways to make this stronger - probably a longer countersunk bolt and washers. I shouldn't have to modify the product to make it work.

Could use a better design
I have this SW Motech adapter plate fitted to my Triumph Tiger 1050 so I can carry a Givi Outback 42L top-case.
It seemed like the obvious choice because the previous owner had already installed the Alu-Rack and I really like most things manufactured by SW Motech.
This adapter iis a very sturdy piece of plastic that could benefit from a more thorough design. My first problem came with the installation of six very small screws, which can be easy to loose while handling. These tiny screws barely thread onto the adapter plate but have managed to stay in place for the last 5,000 miles.
Next is the loose fitting of the top-case. The adapter plate comes with two sets of rubber "bobbins" which are used to dampen vibrations and to provide a tighter attachment fit to the top-case. First of all, they're a pain in the neck to install in the tiny holes of the adapter. If you try to screw them they'll break their inserts as they're not designed to sustain any torsional movements.. I broke a couple of the first set (thinner ones) so I ended up using the other included set (thicker ones). I had to hammer them down to get them inside the adapter holes.
It doesn't matter how hard they are to install, they will fall off very easily when washing your bike or by riding over bumps without the case attached. The printed instructions have a part number for those rubber grommets but I haven't figured out a way to order them from SW Motech yet.
The overall fitting of the top-case is loose as it moves slightly around the adapter in all directions. I guess that the mounting points are smaller than they should be allowing the case some movement. I had never had that problem with other Givi adapters.
The other day I discovered another irritating design flaw in which I tried to attach a smaller, lighter commuter rear bag via straps and couldn't find any attachment points within the adapter plate. Is just a massive piece of plastic with no holes or slots to securely slide in a thin strap, regardless of how it looks in the pictures. I was forced to remove the adapter and carry the small duffel bag directly on the Alu-Rack, which is way smaller for carrying almost anything. I'm definitely switching for the whole Givi setup.

Very Weak Mounting System
One pin has already sheared off. I would not buy the Alu-rack or this adapter plate again.

There is no other way to mount a Givi Monokey onto the Alu-rack other than this system, so because of that i would recommend not getting that rack as well.

There are 3 pins total, but 2 are inline with eachother and the whole box will pivot about that point. The moment about the 2 pins creates a shear force on the 3rd, which is taking almost all the stress of the entire system as u ride down the road.

ONE pin less than 1/8" in diameter is the weakest link in this whole system!!! The strength of the Alu-rack doesnt matter if the weakest link is a tiny pin.

Just take your time
I was hesitant to buy this adapter even though it was probably my only real choice. I had a SW MOTECH Alu-rack installed on my BMW F650GS Twin, then recently picked up a used Givi Monokey topcase. After reading the reviews on this adapter plate, it sounded like it had some design flaws. l thought about going with Givi's universal adapter, but Revzilla's customer service provided some sound reasons for sticking with the SW MOTECH plate. Well, I just finished installing the adapter and I'm really happy with it. Granted, there are some really small self-tapping screws and even smaller washers, but they went on fine and tightened up real solid. If you're thinking about this adapter plate and start getting second thoughts about some of the reviews, take my advice (which happens to be the same advice I got from Revzilla) and take your time on the install. I did and I'm one happy customer.

Must-have for Givi top case
If you want to mount a top case on your bike, this is the bit that connects the top case to whatever rack you have already installed on your bike. In my case, I bought a SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack and installed that first, then installed this to the Alu-Rack. Only issue for me was those six little tiny screws that hold the quick-release plates to the bottom of this plate. They are waaay tiny, easily stripped, and/or easy to lose, so make sure you use some sort of thread-locker when you install them.

Very pleased, but far from perfect
I had this setup on an 07 FJR for a Givi V46 topcase. Years later, after a thorough review of the options, I settled on the same setup for my 15 FJ09. Why? One, this setup provides better clearance between the grab handles and my SHAD SH36 side case latches. Two, I like that the mounting uses different attach points than my side cases and has a higher weight rating than other options. And three, I like that I can remove the plate when top case is not needed for a cleaner look.

First the pros - the Alu-Rack and Plate construction quality are top of the line - they are expensive but heavy, sturdy, with perfect smoothed edges, welds and powder coating. Installation is easy peasy, and the look definitely contributes to the bike. The rack provides more mounting points, but doesn't put your top case waaay back or up there. The Plate goes on and off easily, and provides exactly the versatility it promises. Easy on for top case and easy off for the clean look.

Now the cons. Three major opportunities to make these better...One, the rubber mounts are a joke - they were back when I had the setup for my 07 FJR and nothing's changed. This time, I didn't even waste my time with them - I threw them away and bought a better solution at Home Depot. Two, the tiny Phillips screws provided are small AND they thread INTO the Alu-Rack. All the screws went in fine with the exception of one (of course the last one - always happens that way!) which had a tiny flaw inside the "plus" where the screwdriver seats into the screw providing torque leverage - all went fine, but why should it be this hard? It shouldn't. Bigger screws that bolt on the other side of the rack, please. And three, the "quick release" screws work fine - just like they did on my 07, but...of course they will wear over time because, well, they are quick-release., and will have to be replaced with some other mechanism in time. But why start out that way? This is the top case on the back of my touring rig - I want something just as easy to remove but providing more security in keeping everything together for the long haul.

Obviously, since I knew what I was getting into and did it anyway, the pros outweigh the cons to me. The Givi rack is less expensive but ugly IMHO, has a lower weight rating (and feels like it), shares mounting points with the side cases and looks like it juts the top case further back - not what I want with a short wheelbase rig. I haven't seen any bad reviews of this setup, but the Alu-Rack grab handle design, build quality and versatility in the end won me over.

All its cons can be fixed with a Home depot. Shouldn't have to be this way but unfortunately after 25 years of motorcycling I've learned things are seldom perfect, and in the end, I'm willing to spend more time, effort and money to get exactly what I want.

mounting screws are made from cheap material, doesn't feel very secure
If I had the option to mount my top case directly to my rack, I would do that instead, but the engineers at SW-MOTECH only seem to want to make things a bit more complicated and a little less secure. upon installing the 1/4 turn mounts to my ALU rack one of the screws sheered off inside the rack. no replacement screws provided. I just have to live with it I guess. the plastic is not flimsy itself, but all the mounting points are in the center of the plate which seems like it would be easy to break after a while.

Super easy to install
This adapter was super easy to install on the SW-Motech luggage carrier. I have only had it mounted for less than a week so I really can't speak for it's durability but it seems as though it will be long lasting. Four of the six little screws that hold the the lock mechanism in place just long enough to look it did strip but after the plate is locked on they are pretty much useless.
It fit the Monokey top Case PERFECTLY.

I needed a rack for my Honda NC700X to attach my Givi top case to and the SW-Motech Alu-Rack was the best built rack on the market. Wanted a steel built product, not a high percentage plastic built, that would hold up to years of weather and years of use.

Looks much better than the Givi rack. I like the fact that they can take the quick detach side racks and the quick detach top case adapter so I can remove the uglies when cruising. I have had one of these on my Versys for years now and it has been great.

This is a handy accessory to attach my GIVI Topbox to my SW-MOTECH ALU RACK. When you don't need the topbox mounted, you can easily remove this mounting plate. This gives you access to the rack and looks better too!
