Shoei Neotec II Excursion Helmet

The Shoei Neotec 2 Helmet finds ways to improve upon an already exceptional modular touring helmet. Exhaust outlets complement the upper air intake vents for improved air flow. Wind tunnel testing optimized the Neotec 2's aerodynamics to perform in a variety of riding positions. The integrated shell spoiler is repositioned to better reduce lift and drag at speed, while the Aero Deflector along the chin bar adds stability. A micro ratchet chin strap makes securing the helmet and removing the helmet quick and easy. Noise Isolator cheek pads improve the seal along the neck opening of the helmet to keep turbulent air out. The 360 Pivot Locking System secures the chin bar in the down locked position and a multi-piece EPS liner made out of varying densities of foam absorbs impact energy. The Shoei Neotec 2 is designed to integrate with the Sena SRL Communication System for a clean and low profile installation. All of these features combine to produce one of the ultimate long distance touring helmets.

Aerodynamic Shell Design

  • Aerodynamic properties are maximized through extensive wind tunnel testing
  • Dual-layer EPS liner enhances impact absorption and ventilation
  • Four shell sizes and five liners present increased fit options that help to comfortably fit most head sizes from XS through XXL
  • Shoei’s exclusive, state-of-the-art shell forming technology incorporates the aerodynamic advantages of a spoiler right into the shell of the Neotec 2
  • Vortex Generator on the face cover and visor works to reduce noise and manage air flow around the helmet

Flip-Up Face Cover and Face Shield

  • 360º Pivot Locking System made of high quality stainlees steel components, ensures a safe and secure closure
  • Enlarged single-button release for chin bar and shield allows ease of use with riding gloves
  • Increased space inside the chin bar was added by adjusting the shape to create a smart and light design
  • Opening the face cover up will automatically close the face shield

Sun Shield System

  • Built-in QSV-1 inner sun shield gives riders instant relief from sun glare in one quick motion
  • Meets ANSI Z80.3-2010 standard for non-prescription eyeglasses
  • Large and easy to reach slide switch activates the 3D injection-molded inner sun shield
  • Distortion-free shield blocks 99% of harmful UV rays
  • Forehead area of the outer shell is raised slightly to accommodate the internal sun shield. This allows the integrity of the helmet’s inner EPS liner to remain intact.

Ventilation System

  • Shoei's wind tunnels helped to reveal the optimal balance between airflow and silence
  • Large lower vent shutter for ease of use with riding gloves optimizes air flow while in the riding position
  • All-new exhaust outlets flank adjustable upper air  intake for improved hot-air expulsion

Micro Ratchet Chin Strap

  • 100% stainless steel interlocking mechanism
  • Quick and smooth closure and release
  • Comfortable and easily adjustable

Noise Reduction

  • All-new Noise Isolator cheek pads deflect wind and reduce unwanted noise
  • New airtight window bead and the chin bar’s Vortex Generator lip reduce noise and manage airflow around the helmet
  • Enhanced shell shape improves noise control and aerodynamics

3D Interior Liner System

  • Entire interior liner (cheek pads, upper liner, and chin strap covers) is easily removed for cleaning or replacement
  • Each component of the inner liner is ergonomically designed to offer the ultimate in safety, fit, and comfort
  • Comfortable, 3D helmet liner material quickly dissipates moisture
  • Eyeglass compatible interior is optimized for many different sizes of eyeglasses, while still minimizing gaps that can cause excess interior noise

CNS-3 Shield and Base Plate System

  • All-new design provides approved air/water sealing and noise reduction
  • Protects from 99% of the sun’s damaging UV rays
  • 3D injection-molding ensures distortion-free view throughout the entire field of vision
  • CNS-3 base plate system facilitates smooth and easy shield changes and a wind and waterproof seal
  • New airtight window beading drains and prevents water from entering the helmet
  • Comes equipped with a Pinlock EVO fog-insert lens
  • New shell design improves noise control and aerodynamics

Very comfortable, good ventilation, excellent visibility
First of all, I have purchased helmets from Revzilla but this one I did not because it wasn't available from them when I was shopping for one. However, I use Revzilla regularly and wanted to leave a review on this helmet.

This is my second high-end modular helmet. Shoei has never fit me well until this helmet but I liked the graphics so much I tried one on. I'm not sure if they've changed their headform or if this is a different shell but the fit on this helmet has been excellent from the first day. No hot spots, tight fit around the head and neck but no pinching. The optics are excellent and on par with my previous (don't want to compare brand names but) German helmet. I actually like the sun-visor mechanism better on this helmet. The wind visor has a very positive ratchet system and I also really like the stainless chin clip. The helmet has a very beefy chin bar and isn't the lightest but on my bike at least there is no buffeting or neck fatigue. The liner is very comfortable and the cheek pads provide a nice hug but don't press too hard. Noise-wise it's on par with other modulars I've worn. They aren't quietest no matter what the manufacturer advertises. I wear ear plugs most of the time so it isn't an issue anyway.

I use the helmet almost every day because I commute in it. I've ridden about 1500-2000 miles with it and I still really like it. In really heavy rain the visor leaks very slightly but unless it's really pouring it keeps the water out.

The one thing I wish was different is the narrowest setting on the visor leaves a lot of room between the helmet and visor. If it's cold and/or wet Mother Nature marches right in. It would be helpful if the helmet had another position between locked and this position - one that would engage the gasket at the top of the visor but not close it completely

If you're looking for a really nice helmet and Arai's or Schuberth's have fit you well, give this a try. Those lids have always fit me well when Shoei did not, until now. The helmet gets a lot of positive comments and is extremely comfortable. I can say it's one of the nicest ones I've owned.

good allaround buy
Im usually using ARAI helmets and have to say I dont feel the quality fit and finish of this helmet to be up to par with my ARAI. The main issue I am having with this helmet is the airflow. I ride in very hot and humid climates, but i find the Neotec with too few ajustments in terms of venting the helmet, so it can be a bit on the warm side. Other than that, the helmet fits true to size for me, very comfortable especially in the interior lining and pads. Even though i havnt tried the bluetooth set up, it seems to be very sleek and in a confortable location on the helmet. Other than this a very good helmet and worth the money.

Amazing helmet!
I've never owned a flip-up helmet before, and always thought they kind of gimmicky, until I had to give up two-wheelers due to an injury and bought a CanAm Spyder. Being on essentially a touring bike, I decided the convenience of being able to have a bite to eat and drink from a water bottle out-weighed the nerd factor for me. After waiting for almost six weeks for this helmet to come in stock a Revzilla, I broke down and bought it on Amazon (sorry, guys -- couldn't wait any longer). Was it ever worth the wait, tho! Best fitting helmet I've owned, although I'm ordering a thicker top pad to tighten it up a bit. Great looks (I got the Excursion in Matte black/grey), adequate ventilation, acceptible weight (it is heavier than any of my Bell RS-1/Star sportbike helmets). Just purchased the Sena SRL integrated comm system to complete the deal. Now if they would only come out with a Transitions faceshield, like they have for the RF-1200 (and Bell has for the RS-1 and Star), I would be a completely happy camper! Highly recommended.

A very nice helmet
I really like my Shoei Excursion Modular Helmet with Hi-Vis accents. It fits well and is reasonably quiet. With the chin baffle installed (for quiet) it seems like airflow is inadequate. When I slow or stop I need to open the clear visor a notch or two. I have no doubt that airflow would be less of an issue with the chin baffle removed.

Love it!
Just transitioned from my now 5-year old Neotec to the Neotec 2. If you love the original, you will love the sequel! While on the scale it might weigh a bit on the heavy side, while actually riding it felt significantly lighter to me than my original Neotec. I got the Excursion in gray, red and matte black, and to me it is a very sharp looking helmet. As always with Shoei products, fit of components, finish, operation and paint are all top-notch. While at first the liner felt a little scratchy, after a few hours or riding it now feels as soft and luxurious as my original Neotec has for the last 5 years. In general, it meets or exceeds the helmet it is replacing in all ways. There are a couple differences; The chin vent flows well, and won't dry out you eyes with a hurricane blast like the original does. Helmet crown airflow is better, and did not increase noise levels on my bike. Other than that, it is much like the original. Of course, the great Revzilla service is there, delivering my helmet only 48 hours after ordering it.

Great helmet - does not work for sportbikes.
Great helmet for upright riding. This is a big helmet compared to the other modulars. I was also surprised by the weight for being the next generation Shoei.

Neotec II : A Good Update
The original Neotec did not fit my XL head well, and it felt somehow cheap. I didn't care for it. The Neotec II seems to be a completely new design, and it functions and fits (me) well. I can live with the few noted gripes, and I believe that it is a safe and well made helmet. But if I lived in a hot region of the U.S.A., I might hesitate to buy one.

I gave it a moderate bang-for-buck score because it is already an expensive helmet that stretches my value sensibility, and the single hi-vis color is another $100 more.

My Features rating suffers due to ventilation hardware/function, the chin strap implementation, and the chore of removing the visor. I like D-rings, but I came to prefer a ratchet mechanism on my Nolan helmets. If only Shoei had done as well.

Ventilation. The part that mostly works is the front chin bar vent. It snaps open (or closed) with a touch and air streams up the visor into your eyes. Today was hot so it was welcome, but if it had been cold air my eyes would have teared up. There is no adjustment: it is full blast or nothing. If you want just a faint breeze you cannot just open the visor a bit–it is either closed, or open to the first position, which is too far. The top vent is difficult to operate underway, especially with gloves, but it really doesn't seem to matter anyway: when fully open you get a vague sense of something like comfort, but I would not call it airflow. The chin bar is doing all of the flowing that you will feel.
In sunshine you get a greenhouse effect in the visor/face area, and there is not enough airflow to provide relief, this even with the sun visor in protective position.

Most helmets have a few things about them that you would prefer to see implemented differently. My gripes with this helmet can be accommodated, but it astounds me that a company like Shoei puts a ventilation system like this on a nearly $800 helmet. As noted, I live in a place that doesn't get very hot in the summer, so I will do fine, and I will enjoy the helmet a lot.
Shoei makes a great helmet and that really is a bottom line thing for me.

Great helmet but shield not sealing correctly
I really love this helmet with the exception of the fit of the shield. The overall fit is really good, love the idea of the SENA integration and it's the lightest/best field of vision I've had in a helmet so far.

Unfortunately the shield does not seal correctly. I have tried adjusting multiple times and tested based on directions from Shoei - no luck. I'm not sure if it's because of the shield or the seal - but lots of noise. In fact it's so bad the noise is less with the shield open up to 65 MPH rather than closed. This is literally the loudest helmet I have owned in 40 years. However, this may be a warranty issue as opposed to a design issue which I'll try and resolve with Shoei. Just disappointing that I'm having this issue with a helmet at this price level.
