EASY Install, Good sound, Seamless and neat integration to helmet.
I've just installed my 10u to my GT-air and the install was pretty pain free. The only issue I had was getting one of the buttons back in on one of the side but I feel that's more operator error (see: Me being useless) than a problem with the unit itself. The design really fits well with the helmet, is well hidden and doesn't add a great deal of weight.

The only parts that show are the low profile battery at the rear of the helmet and the buttons on the left hand side of the visor opening. Nice.

Sound is quite clear, not the most amazing sound in the world (don't expect this unit to complete with high end headphones or similar) but perfect for what it is and what it's used for.

All in all I'm pretty happy with the purchase, certainly beats the earphones that I was using up until now.

Being that I've only just installed the system, I'll come back in a month or so and do an update with any issues I may or may not find.

Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try and respond to them quickly.

Ultimately Disappointing. Would Recommend, Grudgingly
I was so excited about this product, I actually selected the Shoei GT-Air helmet specifically so I could use this headset with it.

First the good: The fit and final installation are excellent. Everything fit perfectly and one would never know there was a headset installed. I really didn't want one of those bulky control units on the side of my helmet, which is the #1 reason I chose the SENA 10U. However, i found the installation instructions are not very specific and the diagrams are not all that helpful.

Now the bad:

SOUND QUALITY: Sound quality is simply terrible. I am by no means an audio buff, but music sounds very, very "tinny" with absolutely no bass. It is so bad that very often it is hard to even tell what song is playing.

THE REMOTE: While the concept of having a remote a good idea, the execution is terrible. In addition to a big joystick (FANTASTIC!!) it has two VERY SMALL buttons; one on the front and one on the back. The button usage is also stupid. Press the small rear button to answer a call? Why not use the big round joystick? Up to answer, Down to reject? It is supposed to have auto voice answer, but I cannot get that to work yet. And, the shape doesn't make any sense to me at all, kind of diamond shaped that doesn't really grip the handlebar snugly. Why not just have a round mount plus some rubber inserts for smaller handlebars (like many other products that attach to handlebars)???

FINAL ANALYSIS: So, overall, it's just OK and I'm going to keep it, but only because it's all self-contained inside the helmet. The rest of the "features" are really only so-so.

Sounds great, changes the fit of the helmet
I just finished installing the unit in my GT-Air. Tested the sound and it sounds great. Seems fairly easy enough to use. My only problem at the moment is that my helmet is still brand new(medium - less than two weeks old) and is still pretty tight fitting on my head. Adding this unit inside the helmet has made the fit even more so. Overly so that my ears are unable to unfold or spring back to their normal shape once my head is inside the helmet. Its very uncomfortable to a point where it is painful. Even trying to "re-arrange" it by moving the helmet back and forth and tugging and pulling doesn't help. I ordered the 31mm cheek-pads to see if that would help.

I also noticed the microphone when inserted all the way down tends to pull the rubber gasket of the face shield up which makes the dual rubber lip go downwards, and leaves an open gap for air to get through. Even with the shield locked.

Once the battery was installed, the snaps of the liner did not match properly the way it did previously. It had to be bowed more and basically had somewhat bend it to fit and snap in.

I still give it 4 stars. It could just be my helmet being overly tight.

Money well spent
Seriously, you need this. Everything snapped in perfectly. There's a little head scratching during install, but just know that every piece is designed to use the Shoei padding snaps to secure it in place. Also on mine I did remove the factory pads in the ear wells as it was squeezing my head a little too much for comfort. After removing those pads though helmet fits just the same as ever. The sound is pretty good. I bought my wife the Sena SMH5 to go in her HJC helmet, and the intercom function is awesome. No more trying to figure out what the heck 2 shoulder taps means compared to 3 etc. Just push your button and say it woman!!! This is a really awesome product, a must have if you have a gt air helmet

Some Drawbacks, but a nice integrated solution
OK, lets get this out of the way - It is expensive and the remote SUCKS.

That said, for my own use, it has been pretty easy.

I don't use this as an intercom. I use it to hear GPS directions and to allow me to take cell calls when on the road. It also does a good job notifying me of email or text message, but alas you have to pull over to check those.

Press both helmet buttons to turn on or off. To answer a call, just yell something. Otherwise, just listen.

Would be nice if there was a way to activate voice control to read email or text messages. I suppose even a voice dial would be nice.

As for the remote, there is no place to put it on my bike and even if I could attach it, using it is a royal PIA. Ruins an otherwise fantastic setup.

I love the integration. The charging port is handy and the battery seems to last forever. I left it on by accident one night and still had enough of a charge to put in a full day following. Granted, there wasn't a lot of talking, but that kind of standby is amazing.

Even with the issues, the remaining features and the day to day function on the road make this a great choice.

If you have GT-Air and want Bluetooth, buy this.
Cleanest and easiest installation I've seen in a helmet coms system so far. Simple install with perfect integration.

**I always wear ear plugs when riding** Speakers are more than loud enough riding at 80+ on a naked bike. I'm sure if you had some kind of faring they would be even better. I typically listen to podcasts and books on tape while riding and get good clarity and volume from this system without turning the volume all the way up.

I had a SMH-10r before this and was impressed with the size and got familiar with how the remote worked so this wasn't a big jump for me. I like how the remote works but I mount it upside down on my bars so it doesnt interfere with my horn and signal switch.

Leaves Me Longing for My SMH-10R
I've had this unit in my helmet for over 1 1/2 years, but this weekend convinced me it was review time. Hopefully, this will help someone with their buying decision.

The Good: It integrates well into the helmet, and I find the quantity and quality of sound to be sufficient. I'm on a motorcycle, not at Albert Hall listening to the London Symphony Orchestra.

The Not So Good: It integrates a little too well into the helmet. The position of the buttons is not optimal. I ride almost everywhere with my visor up, so I use the helmet buttons almost exclusively. Unfortunately, on the occasions my visor is down, like it's pissing rain, I have to either raise my visor or use the remote. Since I almost never use it, I have a very difficult time remembering which remote button does what. The remote is also not so good.

I had a very difficult time finding somewhere to put it. It doesn't fit on the inside of the grip, due to my meathooks. I ended up putting it just left of the bar riser on my Street Triple R, and that makes the rear button a bit of a chore to operate. Someone else mentioned the button lay-out, and what each button does is much less than intuitive. I agree. Plus, it's just another device that needs to be charged and paired with the helmet unit. In my mind, they could have easily put the buttons on the side of the helmet, like the almost unnoticeable control unit on the 10R and eliminated the remote, thereby eliminating unnecessary complexity

Stand-by time is pretty good, but if you are on a long ride with some friends, it will die on you. With my 10R, that was not an issue. I could put a battery back in my jacket pocket, run the wire to the control unit on the outside of my helmet, and be back on the air in seconds. The 10U is completely disabled while charging, so when the battery dies, you're done.

Also, if your unit goes into fault mode, like mine did this weekend, and like me you aren't the type to read the entire manual, the instructions for resetting the unit are covered under 15.3 Fault Reset on page 47 of the users manual. You will see a red LED you never noticed before on the left speaker. The pin-hole reset button is right next to it. No need to completely remove the unit from the helmet. DOH!

I would recommend this to a friend with reservations, but I'd probably urge them to get the 10R over it. The simplicity of the 10R trumps the virtual invisibility of the 10U, in my mind.

Perfect Fit - Shoei GT Air
Definitely made for this helmet. It integrates into every nook and cranny perfectly. Super easy install. The handlebar mount is useless on my ZX-11 as it interferes with clutching. Im getting the wrist remote to strap to hopefully the clutch reservoir or something else in reach.

Sound is ok street riding, but tinny at freeway speeds. Dont expect high quality audio out of this thing or any other BT in helmet comm set. Just be happy you can get half descent quality out if it.

I just dropped my brand new helmet from the mirror and the brunt of it was on the main unit in the back. It saved my helmet and works just fine still.

Its nice to have nothing on the outside of my helmet, instead of a big unit that catches on everything.

Buy it!

If you have a GT-Air you WANT this. It completes your helmet. The sound quality is C+, plenty of room for improvement. I hope future generations have better remote function and sound clarity but this unit is a tremendous upgrade for a helmet I already had.

all around good device
Alright so this is a great hidden headset. After you figure out the operation it works great as it should for the price. Love the handlebar controller i would see a big issue if it didn't come with it due to the fact you can get to the buttons without lifting the visor. To be honest i think they need to design one to fit on the bottom edge on the helmet. like the battery is but on the left side.
Only bad thing i have to say is the range is doo doo butts man. Were talking maybe 100 feet before crackle and cut out. And it needs better speakers, from what i have heard the 20s has the better ones that this headset needs. Why they do not come with this is beyond me considering you can fit the 20s speakers in your helmet why give us outdated speakers on a new model. Change those to things and this head set out get a 100% all around
