Scorpion EXO-T1200 Mainstay Helmet

This high-end road helmet won't stop evolving, coming to you with an aggressive shape and bold ambition. The Scorpion EXO-T1200 Helmet has been developed for the rider looking for that all day riding comfort from a helmet.

Features:

  • TCT Composite Shell - Developed exclusively by Scorpion, the revolutionary TCT (Thermodynamic Composite Technology) process consists of a proprietary 5 layer blend of interlaced and specially formulated fiberglass, Aramid and organic poly-resin fibers
  • AirFit - Inflatable cheek pad system for a superior, personalized fit
  • Contour Cheek Pads - Three-dimensionally sculpted foam that contours the rider’s head shape for better comfort and fit
  • EverClear Face shield - Optically-clear shield with state-of-the art fog-free technology, anti-scratch hardened coating and 100% UV protection
  • SpeedView - Adjustable to 3 positions, the retractable sun-visor incorporates Everclear anti-fog technology on both sides
  • KwikWick III - The third generation of Scorpion’s moisture-wicking lining material feels cool to the touch in warm weather and warm in cool weather while maintaining anti-microbial and hypo-allergenic properties
  • KwickFit - Allow easy on and off of the most common styles of eye glasses
  • VSV (Venturi Super Vent) Ventilation System - Scopion’s innovative VSV (Venturi Super Vent) System was specially designed and wind-tunnel tested to increase the venturi effect, a creation of negative air pressure. The two intake ports both serve a separate function, the first draws cool air into the helmet interior while the second draws cool air across the three exhaust ports. As the second intake port passes air through the graduated super vent air channel, it accelerates the flow of air over the three exhaust ports, thus increasing the venturi effect which will draw more warm air out of the helmet interior.
  • Ellip-Tec Base Plate - Scorpion’s ratchet system uses an elliptical motion that creates 7.6mm of travel which pulls the shield securely against the eyeport, ensuring a proper seal. The Ellip-Tec ratchet system allows for 100% tool-less shield changing in a matter of seconds.
  • Emergency Release System - Tabs located under the neck roll allow easy removal of the cheek pads by trained emergency medical personnel
  • Rear spoiler
  • 3 shell sizes
  • Double D ring
  • 5 year warranty

Note: Helmet ships with clear face shield only.

Decent product ruined by quality issues
The good:
The helmet looks amazing, straight out of the box.
Really good airflow
Reasonably lightweight

The not so good:
The new KW3 liner feels nice but out of the box the medium size fit more like my old EXO-1000 medium after 6 years of use, luckily the air bladder can help there.
Then there was the noise. Compared to my old EXO-1000 this thing is like riding with a jet airplane strapped to your head. The buffeting is better on the T1200, but the noise is distracting at interstate speeds. (I ride with earplugs)
Last, and my biggest complaint is the quality control. My cheek pads were not installed correctly from the factory. When I took everything apart and tried to install them correctly I found that the retention tabs were off center and now to attach the pads correctly, my entire cheek pad is off center. This means my glasses never sit straight on my face which is a huge annoyance. When I had the cheek pads out, I found strings of melted plastic throughout the liner which explained the burnt plastic smell that had permeated the helmet out of the box. The sun visor took about an hour to clean and rid of some sticky blurry substance that has been mentioned on other reviews. After one gentle cleaning, following the included Scorpion instructions, the fantastic paint job is already showing scratches and swirls. RevZilla helped and got me in touch with Scorpion, but then Scorpion completely dropped the ball. Scorpion's customer service was uninterested in my concerns and offered no help beyond "you’ll want to push it further into the clip. Once it engages, you’ll want to tuck the cheek pad further underneath the rubber molding." Which wasn't very helpful when my clip was nearly 1/4inch out of place. So after a decade of Scorpion ownership a combination of quality concerns and customer service issues will ensure that I buy a different brand when I need a new helmet. Based on my experiences, I can't recommend this helmet, but I definitely recommend RevZilla.

Great helmet for the price
It sounds like a Scorpion add but this helmet has great features and finish for an affordable price. I haven't ridden in the rain yet but I have an EXO1100 and the face shield has never fogged up, even in an all day down pore with the temp between 37 and 42 degrees F.

Beats HJC in Bang4Buck
OVERALL: I definitely recommend this helmet to friends, family, and strangers. Below is my opinion...

Pros:
- Price for what you get; only helmet I like more than this one for street adventure riding is a Schuberth S2 (twice the price)
- Light weight, especially with internal visor
- Visor mechanism is smooth, crisp
- Visor setting allows it to remain slightly open and locked for increased airflow in city (I love this feature)
- Does NOT fog; ever.

Cons:
- I don't like the air bladder; IMO it's gimmicky. I does work, but I would prefer SCORPION to just cut it out and save me $5 or something.
- It's loud; think the chin/wind guard is the problem.
- Scorpion logo; it's ugly.
- No built in spot for SENA/voice accessory (all touring/street helmets should have this now)

EXO T1200 Mainstay
Great helmet, airflow can be adjusted from zero to Wind Tunnel. The air-fit system snugs it right up nicely. Owned another Scorpion helmet in the past and i loved it (the 'Urban Destroyer' model) I believe i love this one even more!. Great product. Awesome companies. (Revzilla And Scorpion both.)

Good Buy but Noisy
This is my first Scorpion helmet and upon receipt, was impressed with the fit. Although a little tight, it broke in just fine.

The good Stuff:
1. Lots of Safety Features
2. Good Ventilation
3. Average Visibility
4. Sun Visor

The Not so Good:
1. Very noisy with an annoying whistle around 65 mph when you turn your head to the side to check traffic.

Would recommend as an everyday helment

The EXO-T1200 Mainstay Helmet is going to be your premium touring helmet from Scorpion's lineup. Now keep in mind that T stands for touring and this is going to be a step up over something like the T510, and really what you're getting with this, is you are getting that TCT composite shell which is going to give you a nice lightweight design. We threw the medium on the scale, comes in right around that three and a half pound mark with this, which is going to give you a nice lightweight lid for you touring riders out there.

Now again, the Mainstay graphic you're going to see in front of me, this is done up by Dom Designs, three different colors available. You have a black in a high vis with red accents, you're going to have the black and the silver with blue accents, and you're going to see the white and the black in front of me with a blue accent. Now when we talk about the accents, we'll get into this in a little bit, you're going to see almost the colors change, they're very chameleon effect, nice pearlescent base to this, going to be a really nice graphic from Scorpion with the Mainstay.

Now again with the T1200, this is your touring helmet, going to be intermediate oval fit to it, a little bit longer front to back, it's going to work for the majority of you riders out there in the American market, and there is the AirFit technology. And this is something that Scorpion incorporates in their helmets to let you...there's little air bladders behind the cheek pads and it really allows you to just fine tune exactly how much pressure you're getting on your cheeks from this particular lid. Now one of the nice features of the T1200, it does have an internal sun visor baked right in, so for you touring riders out there that like the added sun protection, it's right there for you with the flip of a switch. Again, DOT-rated helmet with this, and if you are not familiar with the T1200, make sure to check out our detailed breakdown video, where we take the helmet, we rip it apart, we show you the inside, the outside, and we give you all the down and dirty details on the T1200.

Now the Mainstay graphic that you see in front of me is going to be done up by Dom Designs, and this is going to have a really nice tech-inspired feel to this, and honestly the colors on this are second to none, the paint is absolutely perfect. You're going have a nice metallic base, real pearlescent to the white on this, and one of the things you're going to notice with the colors, the accent colors, there's a real chameleon-like effect. I just want to hold this up, because it's really hard to see, it almost goes from a blue to a purple to a green, depending on how the light's hitting it. Now I'm just going to rotate the helmet slowly, giving you just a little bit of that effect, really nicely done with this, and that's incorporating all the different colors in the Mainstay line .

Now you're going to see with the sides on this, symmetry coming into play, really pulls from the front to the back. But you have what's almost like this dot matrix design, it starts as a dot matrix in the middle, and then as it expands to the top of the helmet down, it almost turns into more of a block pattern. Really cool feel to this, and again the color is second to none, the paint is absolutely exquisite, and it really does a great job of just looking the part. You're going to see these lines pulling from the front to the back, and everything kind of wraps around nicely. You do have the Dom Design logo, you do have the Scorpion logo back there, and again for you touring riders out there, it just gives you some flair and some color, and the paint was just perfectly executed with this. As we wrap around the front, the other final thing to notice, I love how they just kind of gave you this little circle around the Scorpion logo. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of the zigzag, the raised Scorpion logo, but the way they've kind of encompassed this, with this kind of broken circle, I like that. It was simply done and it just gives it a great feel. Overall the mainstay graphic looks fantastic, nice addition to the Scorpion lineup.
