Scorpion EXO-CT220 Bixby Helmet

The EXO-CT220 was designed to offer a modern, protective and functional helmet for riders who need more than just an old-school open face helmet. The versatile EXO CT220 can be fitted with a sun blocking visor (included) for that wind-in-your-face feel or a full face shield (also included) for serious wind blocking. The face shield is specially extended in length and reduces turbulence inside the helmet by redirecting airflow under the helmet instead of the interior.

Features:

  • Advanced LG polycarbonate shell
  • SpeedView retractable sunvisor with 3 position settings
  • KwikWick II anti-microbial fabric liner with triple density foam
  • KwikFit cheek pads accommodate eyeglasses
  • Anti-turbulence face shield with locking pin
  • Open-face peak visor included
  • Aero-tuned ventilation system
  • Communication system speaker pockets
  • Double D-ring chin strap
  • Emergency release system
  • 2 shell sizes
  • DOT approved
  • 5 year warranty

Great fit, great features, great price
A little nervous when I first ordered the Scorpion EXO-CT220 given some of the reviews on fit, but given Revzilla's amazing return policy I went ahead an bit the bullet. After a few dozen uses, I can safely say that this is one of the best fitting and comfy helmets I've worn in 25+ years or riding. I have a fairly large and true oval shaped dome but stuck with the sizing recommendations on the Revzilla site. Helmet broke in nicely after about two uses.

As an MSF instructor, I'm putting this thing on and taking it off all day long while on the range with students and I have zero complaints about fit, comfort, visibility, or general features/operation. My one and only gripe is wishing for more air flow/air vents. The visor and full shield both work flawlessly and I use them intermittently/frequently depending on conditions for the day. And it's light enough that I never feel burdened by having to keep it on for longer periods while talking/demo'ing to students.

Can't go wrong with this helmet in my opinion. If you're looking for an open face with a number of good and useful features, look no further.

Great helmet, small problem
As someone who wears glasses when I ride, I find helmets without the chin piece are much easier to wear. I can pull them on and off without removing my glasses, and my glasses stay put when I have them on. (Full-face helmets tend to pinch and cause my glasses to lift off my nose.)

I've been wearing a pretty terrible HJC for a couple of years, and I was curious about the shape of the face shield on this helmet, and its claims that it provides better airflow. Every single helmet face shield fogs up on me, so I'm willing to try anything once.

And it is true! The subtly different shape of the face shield definitely does improve airflow in this helmet and prevents too much fogging! Sure, there is still a bit, but it doesn't fog above my nose, so I can still see clearly.

The chin strap has a clever little pull-tab on it, that makes it MUCH easier to undo with gloves on.

And, as a glasses wearer, having an internal flip-down sunglasses thingie is GREAT. It is also shaped better than the sunglasses thingie in my HJC, and is therefore more effective.

If it didn't BREAK.

Like another reviewer mentioned, the slider on the side of the helmet to drop the sun shield into place, has seemingly disconnected from the internal mechanism. Slide the slider, and the shield comes down an inch or so, and I have to grab the bottom and pull it down the rest of the way. But when you slide the slider back, the sun shield fully retracts.

I have not spoken to Revzilla about this, because - like all bikers - I wanna try and fix it myself first. But this does seem like it might be a weak point in the design of this helmet.

Extremely comfortable
Very satisfied. Expected to remove the clear face shield but when it arrived I liked it so much I left it on. Blocks almost all the air from hitting your face. Flip down lense works great. Very comfortable. The pictures of the helmet do not do it any justice. This helmet with the Bixby graphics is beautiful and gets lots of looks.

Good, stylish helmet.
Bought this helmet for a summer ride from So. Calif. to Sturgis. I really liked the retractable sunvisor feature (one that I have on other Scorpion full-face helmets I own). I chose to use the clear drop down shield for the ride.

I like the helmet. It worked mostly as I had expected. I really liked how it fit and did not require any breaking in. Riding 500 miles a day for 8 days could be miserable with sore spots from pressure points. The helmet is also easier to get on and off than my previous Scorpion 3/4 helmet. (My ears say " thank ya"). The longer than usual face shield is a nice feature (also available btw in a tinted version).

My riding buddies say I look like Jack from Jack in the Box with my helmets on, but I think the extra protection beats the cool factor of the less safe helmets they wear.

The face shield had some minor leaks around the sides during some of the heavy turbulence we experienced on the high plains which surprised me, since my other Scorpion helmets don't have any such problems. The retractable sunscreen works fine, but the mechanism for raising and lowering it is not as smoorh as my other helmets, and I wonder how long it will last.

All in all, I am happy with the helmet's function, style, fit and price.

You get what you pay for
The positives:
I like the look of the helmet and it pretty much does what I was looking for it to do. It's light, it has a built in sun visor, lots of air flow, comes with removable peak and face shield. It's a great deal for $150!
The negatives:
With that said, some of the negatives about the helmet is that the peak option is great for city riding, but once you hit 50+ it will catch wind. I thought I would get used to this, but I got tired of fighting the wind and decided to ride without the peak option. The helmet still looks great without it though so that's a plus in my book.
Also, the sun visor mechanism gave me trouble from the start. On my first day trying the helmet it would get stuck 1/3 of the way down no matter how hard I pushed the slider on the side. It eventually snapped out and I had to pull over and luckily nothing broke and I was able to lock it back into place. I now push the slider till it drops down the usual 1/3 way down and pull it down the rest of the way with my hand. I don't know what is causing this problem though, because when I pull it down with my hand it goes down really easy.
Last thing is this helmet fits small and is rather narrow. Glad I went with my gut feeling and decided on going with the XXL instead of the XL. The cheek pads were tight. It was so tight it gave me a headache the first day. After a couple of hours I got used to it and the cheek pads got bearable. I do have chubby cheeks though, so if you suffer from chubby cheeks as well I suggest going with a size bigger.
Conclusion:
I still don't regret buying this helmet. It looks awesome and offers what I was looking for and more. I do regret not spending the extra money to buy a better helmet. The faulty mechanism was a great upset. Even GMax offers sub $100 helmets with internal sun visors that work great. I expected more quality goodness from Scorpion <\3

Bixby Helmet
Out of box it seemed to fit extra tight. After only a couple of uses however, it now fits exceedingly well. For a first time user of a 3/4 style helmet it seems to have good air flow and less outside noise then my old 1/2 helmets.

Nice helmet, but ...........??
Super fast shipping from RevZilla, but when I removed it from the box, the first time I tried the drop down visor, it wouldn't go back up, it was crooked. Gave gentle push with my thumb and it returned, tried it several more times was okay. I put the helmet on, it was a great fit and comfortable. Tried the visor and it wouldn't go back up again. Finally it returned, tried several more times and it jammed again. I called RevZilla and explained the situation and they said no problem, sent me a return postage label via email. I sent it back and had my card refunded within a few days. Great, fast and polite service. I hated that the visor was a problem, I really liked the fit and look of it. A big thank you to the RevZilla staff.

Excellent Open face helmet
I wanted to get an open face helmet that had a face shield to protect my face but give good air flow for the hot Summers in Georgia. This helmet met all my needs. The drop down visor is a great bonus for those afternoon rides back home directly into the sun. Good protection and comfortable helmet. I would buy again.

I am usually a full face rider but this one and another caught my eye. I am fully please with this helmet. I appreciate the reviews on RevZilla that pointed me in the right direction for my purchase. I couldn't agree with the video on this product any more. Spot on great helmet!!!
