Schuberth E1 Guardian Helmet

The Schuberth E1 Helmet offers adventure riders a premium modular helmet designed to perform when the ride leaves the pavement. The Schuberth design team developed the E1 in Schuberth’s proprietary aeroacoustics lab, resulting in a helmet optimized for both aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance. Schuberth’s Anti-Roll-Off System keeps the helmet in place, while the removable and washable inner lining allows riders to keep their helmet clean in between adventures.

One of the most innovative features is the fully articulating peak visor, which can be adjusted to three different positions independently from the face shield and chin bar. The E1 can be worn with both the faceshield and peak in place, or riders may opt to easily remove either piece for the ride. The E1 also features a closable air vent in the chin bar to ensure that riders get enough air as the ride intensifies, while a removable and washable filter will help clean the air in dirty and dusty conditions.

The E1 includes a built-in antenna for Schuberth’s SRC-System PRO. Utilizing the latest in Cardo communication technology, the Bluetooth® SRC-System serves as an intercom with other riders and can connect to a GPS unit, MP3 player or mobile phone for navigation, music listening or phone calls.

Features:

  • Interior liner has been designed with fewer seams and a more universal interior fit
  • Improved EPS with integrated antennas for SRC-System which improves radio and Bluetooth range
  • Micro-lock ratchet chin strap
  • Large reflective panels on neckroll
  • Improved faceshield ratchet mechanism
  • Integrated sun visor

Outer Shell:

The outer shell is offered in two helmet shell sizes and combines an aerodynamically optimal shape with excellent protection. It is manufactured using Schuberth's typical compression molding process and thus permits great stability and a low weight.

  • Shell material: S.T.R.O.N.G. fiber
  • Helmet shell technology from SCHUBERTH permits low weight
  • Glass fiber with a special resin added is compressed in a vacuum at high pressure to form a helmet shell which is exceptionally sturdy
  • Perfected aerodynamics for higher speeds
  • Upward lift = 0!
  • Directionally stable
  • No oscillatory tendency
  • No buffeting
  • Spoiler integrated into the helmet shell

SRC-System Ready:

The E1 is equipped to accommodate the SCHUBERTH SRC-System (sold separately). To guarantee ideal radio reception, the E1 is already equipped with two integrated antennas to boost FM and Bluetooth reception.

  • Optimum reception at all times
  • FM and Bluetooth antennas integrated into the helmet for optimum reception

EPS:

The EPS foam liner is modular in design to ensure optimal shock absorption. This complex segmentation guarantees enhanced force absorption and distribution.

  • Made of specially optimized EPS foam
  • Complex multizone foaming allows optimal shock absorption

Inner Lining:

A special inner lining of the E1 was developed according to Schuberth's  innovative Comfort Fit concept that ensures the helmet fits comfortably and securely in all situations. The combination of carefully selected COOLMAX and Thermocool materials, with the additional use of Interpower coatings, also make the inner lining a highly-effective moisture removal and cooling system.

  • COOLMAX pad system, completely removable and washable (hand wash, 30°C)
  • Optimized fit
  • Variable venting for effective ventilation
  • Adjustable for summer/winter
  • Allergen-free
  • Antibacterial
  • Removable comfort cheek and head band pads

Ventilation:

Thanks to the design of the vents, the supply of fresh air is increased by up to 60%. The combination of multipath channels in the EPS foam liner and the head/chin/mouth ventilation ensures that fresh air is distributed effectively over the entire head area.

A.R.O.S. and Neck Strap:

The Anti-Roll-Off System (A.R.O.S.) was especially developed by SCHUBERTH as a safety feature and is incorporated into every SCHUBERTH motorcycle helmet. It ensures that the helmet cannot roll off of the head when the chinstrap is closed and correctly adjusted:

  • The helmet cannot pivot off the head from behind
  • The risk of contact between the chin section of the helmet and the chin or throat of the rider is minimized due to the small angle of tilt
  • Reduces the chance of the helmet coming into contact with the chest as the result of an accident
  • Precise setting of the chinstrap length through adjustment on both sides
  • Micro-lock ratchet lock

Face Shield:

The EasyChange visor mechanism makes changing visors extremely quick and simple without the use of tools.

  • City position offers maximum ventilation while traveling at slower speeds
  • Pinlock visor prevents shield from fogging

Safety Certification:

  • DOT (as of Spring 2018, Schuberth USA is no longer importing ECE rated E1 Helmets)
Shape: Intermediate Oval

Typical Schuberth, high quality
I’ve been buying Schuberth helmets every since the first Concept. The E1 is an enhanced C3 Pro. Quietest modular helmet on the market. I just wish they would’ve made a visor to fit the C3 Pro, would have saved me a lot of money.

Good Compromise
I am a 60/40 (on-road vs off-road) rider on big adv bikes. Money is no object when it comes to safety equipment for me or my family.

I have owned/used Arai, Shoei and Schuberth helmets. My road helmet of choice is a Schuberth C3 Pro for fit, comfort and noise attenuation. I personally find the helmet the best for my goofy head.

I tried the E1 because I wanted a "better" helmet for the 40% of my time spent offroad....better airflow and sun protection than the C3 Pro. I also wanted a helmet that was appropriate traveling to the trails at highway speed, without feeling like a bobble-head.

The E1 has proven to be quiet, comfortable and much better airflow than the C3 Pro. Love the removable peak. The airflow is so much better that I question if I will use this helmet in the winter. I am much happier with this lid than riding with my XD4 or Shoei. Solid, safe, comfortable, convertible, cool (maybe too cool for winter). Great compromise for my style of riding.

Love the helmet
I have both the C3pro and E1. Both great helmets. I prefer the E1 because of the peak - I ride an adventure bike and often ride in the evening so it helps to block the sun when it gets just at the blinding angle...

Very quiet, very comfortable. Weight is OK but not light. I don't like the inbuilt com-system (I prefer the sena) because the buttons on the neck piece can be quite difficult to access depending on the gloves I use (I often use thick gloves as I am in cold Canada...). The water seal could be improved: when it rains and you ride higher speeds there is water infiltration once in a while: annoying...

Great on and off road as well as for long trips. Not a lot of air though if you ride in hot conditions...

Broke the helmet by accident: put it on my mirror in the open position. It fell off... and the chin bar ripped off the side of the helmet... darn... I think it's bad luck.

Visor flutter
At highway speeds the visor flutters in all positions causing vision to blur. I had to take it off for touring.

I don't like it, brought it and sold it after a few trip
I brought it with the high expectation since i got the C3 pro, and its really good quality. This E1 on the other hand the size is a bit too big, I wear XL on C3 Pro but E1 XL seems bigger than the standard XL, that is ok however, when riding in summer time 120km/h (100Mph) the helmet is shaking and baffle, make me having headache and hard to concentrate. I tried this twice and sold it immediately. The problem is with the peak is pulling the helmet on the side way.

excellent product
Wearing this E1 Guardian:
I was so surprised how a quality helmet Schuberth's is.
It fits really well, so easy strapping it on, does not feel claustrophobic, very quiet no need for earplugs, sun visor a big asset. Ventilation is pretty good in warm weather.
The outside has bright reflecting green colors, in my case.
And I like the wind visor's appeal.
A little minus so far: the helmet tends to fall forwards, iow I have to lift it up once in a while!

Worth it
I have the schuberth guardian bought it in a size L according to the chart, used it for almost a year, never felt comfy, so I got these one on XL made a huge diferance, so if you are in the last number of the chart for a large, get the XL, the helmet is great! I believe worth the money! Specially since I got it with 170 less on revzilla

Definitely tighter than a C3 Pro of the same nominal size
I wore a C3 Pro for a year. The E1 in the same size (Large) was much tighter in the temples and has stayed tighter after a couple thousand miles. Maybe because it fits me tighter, it seems a bit quieter than the C3 Pro. I need earplugs with both. The peak visor works well. Much better than holding my left hand up in a turn to block the sun! When new, the peak visor caused the helmet to vibrate at over 55 mph. Now I leave the peak visor loose (unlocked at the tabs at the temples, but locked at the circular connectors). This way I can adjust the peak visor to three positions with my left hand while riding, and the vibrations seem to be less of an issue. At the highest position, the vibrations are not an issue. The peak visor stays in the position that I put it. (I am not riding at freeway speeds.) If I will be riding away from the sun, I take off the peak visor so the ride will be quieter. It is easy to replace it for the return trip. All in all, it is great to have the many benefits of a C3 Pro and also to not be blinded by the sun and, as a bonus, better ventilation.

Disappointed.
Having waited for years for a top quality, flip face, adventure helmet with a visor, I dropped almost a grand on the Schuberth...

Having just returned from an 18,000 mile 6 month trip with the helmet so I can say it has been adventure tested. Being able to open the face at border crossings, for fresh air, conversation or a drink of water is outstanding. Fit eventually became comfortable though not initially, and the helmet is fairly quiet when the shield is closed.

However, the helmet was an immediate disappointment. The visor fluttered and vibrated at any speed over 50 mph, the two locking tabs for the visor position sheered off after about a thousand miles - and I am meticulously careful with my gear. They seriously need to be manufactured of something other than 1/16" thin cheap plastic. In short order the face shield became so loose it would not stay open at any speed above 30 mph, in any position.

In Alaska, a dealer had replacement parts for the shield attachment plate and a new shield, but in no time the floppy face shield returned which became maddening for the next 6000 miles. The only solution for the problem was to add large thin O-rings between the shield and helmet, and shield and visor - a cheap hardware store solution for a poorly designed helmet.

My previous Arai XD and Nolan X-Lite 550 never had any issues even approaching what the Schuberth does. Both had solid visors with almost no vibration and the face shields stayed at whatever position they were placed in.

I think Schuberth's reputation is akin to the "Emperor's Clothes" tale rather than reality. Fluttering visors, wafer thin plastic in high stress points and a ridiculously poor shield ratchet system have no place on such an expensive helmet.

If driving to Starbucks is your thing, get one, but if you plan on doing any serious adventure riding for any extended time you will have issues that should never occur at such a price.

Anthony says in the video that there is no goggle strap. However, on another retail site, it shows a goggle strap on the rear of the helmet and says "a goggle-strap holder for those days in the dirt". Has Schuberth perhaps added this AFTER the video was made?
David W on Jan 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The helmet you're referring to is the Touratech version of the E1, the Touratech Aventuro Mod Helmet. Very similar helmet, and made by Shuberth, but these are two different animals.
Can we retro-fit the visor assembly to an existing prior year Schubert C3 Pro ?

If you have any sizing problems, return it to Revzilla and exchange it for another size. Take note that there is a break-in period for the helmet to get more loose. My E1 loosened up by the 12th time I rode with it.
Anthony stated in the E1 video that it fit the same as the C3 Pro, but that was a different fitment than the "regular" C3. Can you elaborate on that a little bit? Would you say that the fitment is similar to a Schoei Neotec?
I had a regular C3, but got rid of it because after wearing it for ~1.5 hrs, my left ear would be in unbearable pain. The replacement Schoei Neotec fits great with no pain issues after long distances without removing it from my head.

Thanks!
Craig G on Nov 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: My previous helmet was the Neotec size XL. When I transitioned to the E1, my size was XXXL. I have to admit to everyone that the first time I wore the helmet, it was tight and there was a little discomfort on the ear part. I got through the break-in period so by the 12th time I rode with helmet, it became perfect. For my Neotec, I used it for about 2 years. The first time I got the Neotec, the fitment was perfect but got loose througout time.
Can the inner visor be removed for cleaning?
Donald C on Feb 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Definitely and you can also replace the sun visor with a different color. Check out the different sun visor for the E1 on the Schuberth website.
Is the Guardian paint scheme Matte or Gloss? Looks to be Matte but no website specifies this including Schuberth
Joseph S on Mar 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The Guardian paint scheme based on Anthony's video is matte colored. I have the black matte colored E1 and I love it. Goes well with my all black Dainese D-Explorer Gore-Tex Jacket.
I already have a sena com system that rides on the left side of the helmet. The helmet has the inner visor control along there. can a left mount external com system fit this helmet?
A shopper on Dec 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have used both the SENA 10 and 20 on my C3 (non-pro) with no issues. I mount it just behind the inner visor slide using the adhesive mount.
What is the difference btw E1 Guardian and E1 Hunter and the S2 Sorts drag other than modular? I drive a 2016 S1000XR and don't offroad.
A C on Aug 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Difference between the E1 Guardian and E1 Hunter is only graphics. The E1 is totally different to the S2. (I've never owned the S2, so these comments are not from experience with both, but I do have an E1.) You're kinda comparing an apple and an orange here..
Apart from the E1 being modular, which you already highlight, it is a redesigned version of the C3, with the addition of sun visor and chin vents. The S2 is a full face (non modular) helmet and is more like a sport helmet than an adventure helmet, so it will be totally different. I expect it will be significantly lighter and quieter than the E1, since the modular design adds both weight and noise... I like the E1, but I was disappointed with both the weight and noise levels compared to the Nolan N103's that I have been wearing until now... I expected much more from the Schuberth at twice the price. The E1 without the visor was still noisy, but otherwise, you can still remove it and you basically have a C3 with extra chin vents. Apart from the above, the S2 appears to have similar features to the E1 in terms of Shuberth construction and safety features. Hope this helps.
Is the pinlock included with the Schuberth E1 Guardian helmet? I have just received me E1 Adventure but do not see a pinlock included in the box.
Cameron N on May 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It should be already on the visor with a yellow protective sheet. You have to remove it before riding. Contact Revzilla if you are having problems.
Color or option is yellow. The E1 in Reveille video looks hiviz day comes color. Which is it?
A shopper on May 8, 2016
