Saddlemen Adventure Track Seat for BMW R1200GS/Adventure

The Saddlemen Adventure Track Seat is a hybrid seat design that combines Saddlemen's exclusive elements of a GEL comfort layer and progressive density foam with a GEL-Channel design to provide Adventure and Dual Sport riders with unparalleled comfort and control. Rugged marine-grade synthetic suede resists the elements while providing the proper balance of grip and comfort under the rider's posterior.

The pillion section is covered with high-tech gripper material to help hold cargo in place and is shaped to match the rear rack's height for simplified cargo packing. Integrated bag or cargo mounting points on the pillion match Saddlemen Adventure PACK bags or use them to secure your own load.

Features:

  • Hybrid seat design combines SaddleGel interior, progressive density foam and a Gel Channel saddle to provide Adventure and Dual Sport riders with unparalleled comfort and control
  • Saddlemen’s Gel Channel (GC) technology (patent pending) seats incorporate a split piece of SaddleGel  and a channel in the base foam to relieve seating pressure on the perineal area, increase blood flow, thus keeping the rider in the saddle longer
  • Gel Channel seats offer high quality, durable construction and styling that’s as unique as it is  functional
  • The vinyl and rugged micro-fiber suede cover holds up to hard use while providing a superb blend of comfort and control (certain models feature a rugged gripper style cover)
  • Some seat applications, such as mid-sized Dual Sport motorcycles, have a standard foam design (no GC) with a gripper and vinyl cover better suited to rigorous riding
  • Integrated bag/cargo mounting points on the pillion portion of the Adventure-class seat sets make it easy to attach Saddlemen’s Adventure PACK luggage or other cargo
  • Most mid-sized Dual Sport applications also include a luggage/cargo mounting strap set that  installs or removes in seconds from the seat
  • A solo rider-seat, rather than a full two-piece set, is available in some applications
  • Most seats are also available in low-profile designs

Note: Image is for reference only, actual seat may vary slightly.

PLUG AND PLAY - ALMOST
R1200GS 2008 - Ooops that looked like it would slide right into place - no hardware to transfer - this should be a piece of cake - HOWEVER is seems to be stopping short of landing in correct position going forward enough to lock into position - called Saddlemen - tech asked for pictures - turned out the metal tabs at aft section of tank that hold owners manual in place via O ring need to be bent slightly forward - which was stopping progress of seat landing in position - fit great after that and looks great - nice alternative to other seat mfgs offerings

Not the best answer if you are short
So I have waited a bit to review this saddle to get a more complete impression. I have ridden it now for about 2 weeks, and about 500 miles. I ride a 2011 R1200GS and have a 29 inch inseam. I have always had to 1 foot the bike at stops and can tippy toe 2 feet, but even with the low version of this seat it has increased the overall reach over the standard seat. This is because it is simply a wider seat which limits the reach. Also being wider, I do not care for it nearly as much when standing. It feels too wide at the front. It does somewhat cure the issues I have with hip roll, or poor posture on the stock seat that put pressure on my lower back. That is 50-70% better. It does help most, as you might expect, with decreased pressure on the perineum which makes longer ride much better. Many people say it is a hard seat, and sure the foam is more rigid than the stock seat, but I kind of like that. I can tell that even after only 500 miles it is starting to conform to me. It will get even better with time I expect. If I were going on a long weekend ride that was mostly off-road and would require me to stand all day, I would definitely put my stock seat back on for that ride. Lastly, it was very finicky to fit. The fuse block at the back under the seat had to be moved from its bracket and tucked up under the rear rack plastic just to get the seat on and it still took way too many attempts to get it on correctly. I would hate to have to remove and re-install it often. So those are my thoughts. I think it is be a better choice than stock for touring and my daily commuting, but not my choice for off-road standing use.

Good looking saddle; but uncomfortable for me
I have had this saddle for some time and have waited to see if a longer break in would help. The main thing that I was looking for was greater comfort in the seat for my R1200 GSA. This seat does not do that for me. I think I get about the same distance out of this seat as I do for my stock seat. I am a heavy (240 lbs).

I am inseam challenged and I have a tall bike, so I was worried that this seat would raise me too high in the saddle. I found that for me that was not the case. In the low setting, I actually believe that I might be a little lower than the stock seat.

I didn't trash the rating for this seat because it is well constructed, looks awesome, and it fits the bike great. The saddleman folks have really created a nice seat. For others; this might work great.

The only additional comment; it gets VERY hot in direct sunlight. So much so I had to stand on the pegs for a few minutes to let some air flow over it to cool down. I am going to try and towel or something next time I take it to work where there isn't any shade.

not at all what I expected
Although it looks nice, it is not anymore comfortable than the stock seat. Gets and stays very wet after rain for a long time.

Comfortable
Bought this seat to replacement my GS's original seat. For those of you that ride a GS you know just horrible that seat is. I installed the Saddleman seat and took it for a quick 300 mile ride. I immediately noticed how much more comfortable it was over the original seat. No more pain in my tail bone or lower back, didn't need to get off the bike after an hour of riding. I am now looking forward to getting out for a ride as soon as possible. I would recommend this seat for any GS rider that is still suffering with their original seat.

Endless Quest for Perfect Saddle!
It seems that finding the perfect saddle and windscreen are extremely personal endeavors and a large part luck and maybe voodoo as well. I am certainly glad that I had read other reviews of this saddle before purchasing because my initial reaction to sitting on it was, "No living way!" It arrives as hard as a rock and seemingly engineered by a lumberjack. Slowly, VERY SLOWLY, it is conforming to my "sitter bones" which must be more pronounced than my expanding profile would suggest. I think the fitting process has been protracted because ambient temps are now low and I am now sort of regretting having not purchased the heated version which, I imagine, would have helped accelerate this process given the current cold snap. I am even considering applying a therapeutic heating pad to warm it up and then jumping on! Anyway, I have great hopes that once fully "personalized," this saddle ultimately will be great and the trick center channel will work to solve discomfort related to my aging anatomy.

The appearance, workmanship and materials used on this saddle (and pillion seat) are top-drawer. I love the faux suede main rider seating. It is MUCH nicer than the OEM textured vinyl. The D-rings on the pillion saddle are a super idea and I have already used them.

NOTE: The underside of the pan of the Saddleman saddle is a bit different from the OEM saddle on my 2010 BMW R1200GSA and fits closer to the airbox unit which sits immediately ahead and above the OEM battery. Unfortunately, I had vertically mounted a Centech AP-1 power distribution module to that airbox wall. Consequently, what should have been a simple swap of saddles turned into a project to move the Centech unit rearward to the tool tray which had already become home to the computer module for new Ohlin ESA shocks! Just FYI in case you have changed the arrangement of things under your present saddle.

Great Gel padding
I ride a 2010 BMW GS Adventure. After suffering with the stock seat and reading about alternatives, I thought I would try the Saddlemen Adventure Track seat. Revzilla got it to me in perfect order. Amazing order to delivery time! The seat is simple to replace the original with....turn of a key. My first few uses were easy quick commutes to and from work (10 minutes). It was the next week before I got to ride for some mileage. I didn't even think about my new seat until I stopped for fuel an hour and half later that I realized I was riding on my new gel seat from Saddlemen. No numb butt! No stiff painful few steps as I climbed off my ride! Wow! What a difference! Easily the best farkle I have added to my ride. Great job Revzilla! Super job Saddlemen! Fit and finish is superb. Finally an all day seat for an all day machine.
Cheers

Saddleman low for R1200GS
This seat is a little wider than stock. Although sold as a "low" seat, because of the width, the reach is about the same as the stock seat on low position. It is definitely a lot more comfortable, though, and I am very satisfied with the purchase.

Not Comfortable
I got this seat because my tail bone was aching after long rides on my R1200GS. In that regard, it works well, relieving the pressure on my tailbone. But other than that, I'm not that happy with it. It's actually a fairly hard seat, and I have rode several thousand miles on it, hoping it would break in and soften up, but it really hasn't. When you combine the channel in the middle, with the fact that it is a bit more narrow than the stock seat, you end up sitting on what feels like two hard rails. This is definitely not a long distance, in the saddle, seat. Luckily I spend as much time as I can standing on the pegs, thus have learned to deal with its hardness. The stock seat is actually more cushioning, and being bigger, it disperses your weight out over a larger area. The suede covering also retains moisture a lot more than the stock seat. If it left out in the rain, getting it dry takes some time. If you're riding in the rain, it seems to draw in the rain and hold it there, like sitting on a damp sponge. It is well constructed, sturdy and fits well.
