Nice slip-ons, but louder than expected
I had heard Rinehart slip-ons on some other Sportsters and thought they were warmer, a little quieter, and more "musical" than some other pipes. I liked the sound, and was not looking for in-your-face loud, so wanted to get a pair for my Iron. But they did not make anything for the 2016 model. I snooped around at many others and finally resigned myself to the idea of getting another popular brand (which I thought were a little loud and a little harsh), but right before ordering them, Rinehart released their new slip-ons for my year. I was excited. So I bought them.

When I first started it up, I was shocked at the sound. MUCH louder than the prior versions I had heard. And BIG sounding. Deep. But definitely not quite as "warm" as I had remember with the prior versions. And since I was not looking for loud loud, it threw me off.

The next think I noticed was how awful the bike ran. Backfiring. Deceleration popping its a** off. Completely "bogging" out at low RPMs while accelerating. So rough that I actually thought someone was seriously wrong. So I did some research and found that this was not that uncommon. After all, I had just switched to wide-open racing pipes – a major change from the prior set up. So a performance change was expected. I decided V&H's FP3 tuner was the way to go, to see if it would help my situation (it literally had one of the highest ratings of any product I'd seen on Revzilla, and almost seemed too good to be true). So I ordered it and flashed the bike. Immediate improvement. Instantly ran smooth. Not one decel pop. And with every mile (as the adaptive fuel values settled in more and more), the bike began to feel like a racing machine (and sound like one too).

So now it was running amazingly (did some other things with autotune, etc. but this is not a review on the FP3, so I'll stay with the mufflers). But it was LOUD. At idle, I love it. Traffic now knew I was there. But I have to say, when riding it, there are time when it's too loud for my tastes. Actually hurts at some particular RPMs. I've since gotten used to it more, and it's getting easier to ride. But the reason I really bring up this point is because I actually love the Rineharts (which is interesting because for the first week, between the volume and performance, I thought for sure I'd need to get rid of them), but wish I had some baffle options to tone it down a bit. But there are none for this muffler.

My review should be considered very good. These are great mufflers for someone who likes/wants loud. And once the bike was tuned for them, ran like a racing machine. But I'm still considering switch them out due to the volume. If there were some baffle options from Rinehart that brought them a little more under control (but still retains a good portion of the big, great sound), this review would be a stellar one.
