R&G Racing Stainless Steel Radiator Guards BMW R1200GS / Adventure

Why would you want a radiator guard? Did you know something as tiny as a valve stem cap can puncture a radiator? Whether you are commuting to work or are riding that uncharted road, blowing a hole in a high pressure cooling system will ruin your day.

The R&G Stainless Steel Radiator Guard is a rugged version of the standard aluminum guard. The 1mm stainless steel construction allows it to be incredibly strong and provides significant protection from rocks and road debris. Airflow to the radiator is unrestricted thanks for the last-cut grills. Perfect for riders tackling rough terrains and conditions.

Features:

  • Each radiator guard is bike specific
  • Corrosion resistant finish
  • Mounts to OEM points with no modifications necessary

A great quality product that looks great on your bike.
I didn't get these for their looks, but they do look great.
They are definitely solid and will keep the rocks and debris out of your radiator.
These used to sell on Revzilla at a much lower price, but still a fair value at current price.
I recommend these, especially if you run off road or on gravel.

Easy install
This is a very easy install, takes about 5 minutes. Remove 3 screws on each side then slide them into place. Put the screws back and you're Done! Inexpensive and looks great.

Easy install and looks great on my new 2015 BMW R111200GS
Have not had chance to see how durable the guard is, however it appears to be very well made and makes the bike look better than without it. Easy install, good price!

Did installing these guards cause your engine to operate at a higher temperature? Other BMW R1200GS riders have reported the Altrider guards raised engine temperature significantly. Thanks!
R12RIDER on Jul 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: As a matter of fact, they did. Let me explain: When I first put these on I did not have any significant issues with them. I live in central California where summer temperatures regularly climb over 100 degrees. I noticed that my engine's normal (mean) and fairly stable temperature of 181 degrees would fluctuate between 181 and 185 degrees every few minutes. I was not concerned about this on shorter rides; however I wondered about whether or not these temperature fluctuations would cause a premature failure of the thermostat. I took the bike on a 4k mile ride to Canada about a month ago and I decided to take these guards off half way through the trip. One day while riding 80mph on the freeway through Oregon on a 101 degree day caused the mean temperature to hover in the area of 196-198 degrees, and regularly climbed to 208-210 or so when stopped at traffic signals, triggering the cooling fan to turn on. It is worth mentioning that the bike never overheated, even in these extremes, and never gave me any warning lights or such. As soon as I took the guards off, the engine ran about 10 degrees cooler. I just feel like these guards could use a redesign to improve air flow for those of us who ride where its exceptionally hot. I will not put them back on and I plan to give another brand a try. Perhaps the Altrider or Cox racing guards. I hope you find this information helpful.

Has anybody seen a marked increase in engine temp running these as opposed to without them?
