Reviews & Questions
The Versys uses a 160/60/17 and Revzilla didn't have it on list, but I made the observation and they search with the supplier and put it available in 1 day!
Overall Excellent tire, excellent customer service.
I installed these on my Versys after running a set of Michelin Road Pilot 2 sport touring tires. I would say pavement grip is sufficient for sport riding, at least I have not reached their limits yet. I ride fast sometimes in the corners but never to the point of going knee down if that's any help. I still think the RPs probably had slightly more grip on pavement although they are a street only tire and these are DS tires. Overall really exceptional pavement performance for a DS tire. Wet traction and traction on dirt and gravel is superior to my previous street tires but obviously not as good as more off road targeted tires. I rated grip average as they are good but not exceptional compared to a street only tire and adequate for off road use. A perfect balance/compromise for a bike like my Versys and my 98% pavement/2% off road use.
It handles well in the rain. I never got any shocks when riding in some pretty heavy rain.
I only had it off pavement a few times on packed beach road with quiet a bit of sand. They seemed ok fir that. I am not much of an off road type rider though.
This tread really is amazing. While in FL, my girlfriend and I had to ride through plenty of sand (camping on the beach often) and plenty of storms... I trusted these tires to get us through just about anything 2 up. I highly recommend them!
Me and 5 other friends on R1200GS.. will keep buying this Tire from now on...trust me.
I have ridden from Venezuela, to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brasi and back to my country... this trip and some others have given us some experience on tires.
Buy it you will be happy, and for the value you are getting much more than expected.
The stock tires are great but I think the Scorpions would fit well with the riding I do. I'm not dragging knee or going to the track anytime soon so think these should be fine. Anyone ride in cooler/wet climates with a zingy bike have experience on wet roads?
For comparison, I only got 3000 miles out of Angel GT's.
Hope this helps.
The Pirellis have a bit wider contact patch so they don't give the lightning-quick turn in of the Metzlers. For what I do, however, they more than make up for that with increased stability; both passing trucks at highway speeds, and especially on any sort of loose surface.
If you're never going to put that Beemer on a patch of dirt I'd probably look at street-only tires like the offerings from Metzler, Continental, Bridgestone or Avon. Whichever you choose you've found the right place to buy ’em at Revzilla.
Tires show no signs of loosing grip even when they have almost no thread. At least when they are warm enough.
I like them a lot.
My question: What is the difference between the R, ZR, and ZR K-spec?
From the Pirelli Catalog:
180/55 R 17 M/C 73V TL Bi-Compound 2111200
180/55 ZR 17 M/C 73W TL Bi-Compound 1920300
180/55 ZR 17 M/C 73W TL Bi-Compound (K) 2147700
"Rear K 180/55 ZR 17 M/C 73W TL 2147700. 1 ply Rayon for improved handling. Kawasaki new Versys 1000."
My gut tells me the tire I want is the 180/55ZR17 TL 73W (1920300) but would like to confirm. Would the K-spec tire fit on my Duc? Is it worth it?
Z= is the speed rating, 149+ mph
K= original replacement for the Kawasaki Versys.
V=speed index up to 149 mph
W=speed index up to 168 mph
Your gut is correct. Its the same tire I buy for my Multi except I take a 190.
