Oxford Heaterz Premium Adventure Heated Grips

The Oxford Heaterz Premium Adventure heated handlebar grips are made especially for adventure bikes. The grips have ergonomically engineered surface structures to optimize riding performance. Thicker rubber in areas of maximum wear; rhombus tread patterns for high levels of grip and feel; diamond tread pattern where maximum grip is required. Overall grip length is 5.19" and can be trimmed to a minimum length of 4.80" without damaging the heating elements.

What really sets the Oxford Heaterz apart? The answer is many tried and tested features such as the silicon cables which provide flexibility in the coldest weathers and the winter grade wiring prevents cracking and short circuits. The bonded grip design has been in use for many years and is well proven. The grip compound and thermo plastic rubber construction is designed to absorb vibration, making them extremely comfortable and durable, often outlasting standard grips. The silicone wires that come from the grip are angled to eliminate water ingress and resulting corrosion/ice damage and have special unique internal supports which are heat shrunk together to prevent damage if the wires are snagged.

In addition, five carefully chosen heat settings allow the perfect temperature to be selected in ALL weathers and most importantly, the switch will switch off if the voltage drops to 10.5V to ensure that the battery is not damaged to the point that it cannot be recharged to full capacity. Easier than ever to install due to the new intelligent heat controller eliminating any need to wire the positive to a live ignition feed; simply connect the 2 ring connectors to the battery. You'll find everything supplied by Oxford to fit your Heaterz from a wiring loom with ring connectors to the battery with simple plug and play connectors to attach to the switch and grips, smart mounting bracket and switch right down to the glue and cable ties all neatly packaged in one box.

  • Fits most 7/8" handlebars
  • Standard length: 5.19"
  • Minimum length: 4.80"
  • Sealed for life

  • Rainproof switch

Very Nice Product
I purchased a new to me 1996 BMW R1100GS in October, 2014, and installed these in January, 2015. I rode throughout our Missouri winter, with temps in the mid 20's through mid 40's. With 3+ season touring gloves, the Oxfords were more than adequate to keep my hands warm. Generally in the coldest of winter days, 75% for startup was adequate, and usually had to turn them down to 50%, as they tend to get hot.

Cool spring riding is no problem either, on days that start at 40 to 50 degrees, with these heaters set at 50% or less, hands get toasty fast.

Installation is relatively easy. Biggest pain is getting the wires laid out in appropriate fashion. There is adequate length to the harness, and in my case, almost too much length. Other than attaching the leads to the battery, each component of the harness snap-connects together well, and securely.

I ended up attaching the controller to the inside of my left hand guard. From there I can extend my middle finger and adjust the buttons, without really removing my hands from the bars. It also helps protect the controller from direct exposure, although the controller appears to be sturdy and water tight. In this position I was able to keep the grip wires aligned with existing cables, and after cable ties, blends perfectly. The kit came with a metal bracket that supposedly attaches to the brake handle mounts, but I found it useless on my bike, without major surgery.

The auto shut-off feature is nice, as I have twice forgotten to turn it off; only to remember later. Both times the controller did its job, and shut the system down. I believe it has a 5 minute timer.

Nicely packaged, professionally made, nice look, feel, and function, if you don't have heated grips yet, this really fills that void.
Short story: After the first 5 months of use I totally recommend.

Used in 20s, work very well
I installed these on my KLR650 in the fall, and rode most of this winter. I have fairly standard winter gloves, and these grip warmers work extremely well. I've ridden in the low 20s (for 30-45 minutes during commute) with these and my hands have been plenty toasty. I just rode for 4 hours last week in the 30s, and again, hand warmth was not an issue. These are kind of a no brainer: you can use any glove you want, they're cheaper than heated gloves, and they're pretty simple to install. I should point out, they do make the diameter of your grips larger for KLR650s: not a problem for me, but you might want to know that. And another useful fact is that cramp busters fit right on these grips without additional rubber.

Nightmare installation; Warm hands
NOTE: I have Barkbusters Storm handguards installed on my motorcycle.

This product works great and the wiring and left grip installation are very straight forward. It was a snap to route the wires and slide the clutch side grip into place. The throttle side, however, required the removal of the throttle tube, extensive filing and some work with a bench grinder wire wheel to take all the ridges off the throttle tube. This was needed to get the grip all the way on and clear of the bar end, allowing the throttle to rotate freely. It was not simple. It was not easy. It was not quick.

It is absolutely imperative that you dry fit and mark everything before you apply the supplied glue. The left side could be adjusted after the glue was applied to get things lined up properly. But the right side wouldn't even slide on all the way once I coated the throttle tube with adhesive. Cue the mad scramble to get the throttle tube back off and pound the grip the rest of the way on by slamming the whole thing down on a vice before the glue set up properly. I would recommend marking the throttle tube and then removing it to work on a bench BEFORE attempting to glue the grip in place. I did also have to trim both sides down the amount shown in the directions.

I've only got one ride in with the grips on so far so I can't comment on durability but they seem to work really well. I had to turn them off completely once I got into town because they were too warm. For reference it was about 55 out and I was wearing winter weight gloves.

I am slightly concerned about the owners manual saying that the controller draws 71 milliamps in "standby mode" (I assume that means "off"). Seems kind of high (rule of thumb is no more than 30 at key off). So if you have an ignition switched battery feed handy I would hook up to that.

Time consuming and frustrating install aside, the product works well and will greatly improve my comfort on the bike while extending my riding season.

Great for the price
Fit perfect on my 13 super tenere. No modifications needed. Prob took an hour to install. You will still need a pair of winter gloves in cold weather! If there is no insulation your fingers will still be freezing. The combo of the grips and a good set of winter gloves make riding down to ice temps comfortable. I ended up getting the tour master winter elite II and am happy with the combo. If I had to do it over I would get the gloves first, then the grips.

If you are installing on a super revere there is a factory heated grip connection by the battery. Obviously unused because your buying these....find this connection and then the grips can't turn on unless the engine is running and is turned off when the ignition is turned off. This made the install super easy.

Better than expected
My morning commute can be a 38 degree morning ride and a 80+ degree ride home. These grips are fantastic. Super easy install on my NC700x. Better and cheaper than heated gloves and allot more useful for me with the massive temperature swings I deal with.

If you are looking for heated grips this is a great product for the price!
I've had Oxford heated grip products for a number of years and I just replaced my original Oxford heated grips because they just wore out from use. My old grips were well worn from keeping me warm faithfully in temps down to the teens. I was hoping to make it through the winter of 2013-2014 but recently they finally quit. I was pleased to find out that Oxfor has an updated version (The Adventure grips you are now reviewing for yourself).

The Adventure grips are well worth the investment, It was a very easy installation and the improvements Oxford has made to the product makes is "plug-N-Play"-like so that you are back on the road quickly. In the two weeks that I've had this, my second set of Oxford grips, I am entirely pleased.

The control unit is waterproof and hardened for the weather. All the wiring is robust and connectors are designed to keep out the water. Wiring eyelets or loops are for ready connection to the battery and if you are worried about accidentally flat-lining your battery, this kit has a voltage sensor and watches out for you and will shut off the grips (if you forget to) at 10.5v with the battery saver feature.

The grips went on as expected (follow the instructions) and they are comfortable and bring up the heat as they should. When applying the grip glue use care to not foul up your throttle.

With a gloved hand in a few minutes you are again comfortable and your muscles are not tightening from the cold. Muscle fatigue is dangerous these grips provide the solution. Five settings on the controller provide you an improved range for heat. Two larger buttons provide for easy control of the heat levels. It comes with everything you need to install (mounting bracket, hardware, zip ties, etc.)

The price is worth the investment to ensure an enjoyable (AND SAFE) ride with hands that are warm and can safely adjust your motorcycle’s controls. Don’t miss out on this opportunity.
Highly recommended.

Work well, but the adventure version of the grips are thicker than normal grips
I like the grips in general. They are easy install, and easy to use. BUT... I purchased the adventure grips, thinking I have an adventure bike, only to find out after riding that the grips are thicker that normal grips, which drives me nuts. I have raced motocross most of my life, so maybe it is simply a muscle memory issue, but i am having a hard time getting use to the thicker grip. I will probably end up switching to one of the other, thinner models.

Conquer the winter
I ride year-long and after purchasing the Oxford Heaterz Premium Adventure Grips - I have realized that for years I've been such a fool.

Now I get to experience the joys of riding in any temperature with the comfort of toasty hands and finger tips!

Oxford is the way to go - their plug-and-play system is fantastic. Wiring directly to the battery leads - its just connect and route it through the bike. Oxford is generous with their wire lengths, so I decided to tuck and bundle the excess length (no problem, I had room).

The grips are fantastic. Thicker in diameter than my original grips - I quickly adjusted and prefer the feel. It gives more area that my glove contacts the grip = more heat. Regular cold days I might run 20 or 40%. It was low 20s today w/snow - cranked those baby's to 100% and I was happy.

I had to file the lip off my throttle end (plastic on the KTM) for a proper fit, a few extra minutes but installation was a breeze. Like others, I had a panic moment when installing the grips with the super glue (the second you put it on and it gets stuck mid-way through the grip I just started mashing on it thinking it'd get glued stuck mid-way on my throttle).. but it went on smooth and secure. Had to adjust my throttle and brake because the right grip end poked out even after trimming. No biggie.

Love the product! It's a must-have, I feel I'll be using it all year long because it adds so much comfort.

Great Price and Warmth
I've had two sets of these for 2 different 2014 Yamaha Super Tenere's. They really keep the palms toasty at different temps I can control. I put Good for Eas of Install as my local mechanic actually put them on. I was able to buy a whole bunch of things with the money I had left over between these and Yamaha's version. Well spent and totally worth it!

Easy to Install, Plenty of Heat, but Tricky to Trim Length
Installed on my 2014 Versys 650. The procedure was as simple as this video suggests and they get plenty warm. I needed to trim the ends to their maximum extent and making a neat/clean edge was difficult. Given another opportunity, I would have gone with one of the shorter styles and not worried about "grip pattern".

I want the adventure style grips, but my WR250R grip length is 4.5" - these say I can't cut them down that far. So...I've gotta get the sport model?
Robert W on Feb 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You can use the Adventure ones. I have same bike (2017) w/Adventure grips. You cut off the end because if you don't already, you likely will be installing hand guards and you need access to the hole in the end of your handlebar for it's bolt and you don't want the heated grip rubbing against the aluminum backbone of the handgrip anyway.
If the bike is connected to a Battery Tender and the unit is left "on", will the grips stay warm since the battery voltage is above 11Volts? Or, does the "no vibration" feature turn the system off regardless?
Brenten C on Jan 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I am pretty sure the no vibration feature will turn the system off.
Lots off talk about auto shut-off to conserve battery but my question is can you turn them off manually?
A shopper on Dec 4, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can turn them off manually. i was wary of the auto-shutoff and tested it. It does work as advertised, but to save as much juice as possible I almost aalways turn off the grips manually before turning the bike off. To turn them off just press the down button until the lights go off.
Is this grip longer than the other Oxford heated grips? If yes, how long is the Adventure grip?
A shopper on Nov 12, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I believe the Adventure grip has the longest grip of the three I saw offered which is one reason I chose them. But according to the instructions they can be shortened approximately, (and this is an eyeball guesstimate,) one quarter inch if need be. Mine were installed on a 2008 1250 Bandit and I was able to use them with no problem without cutting them although I had to remove the inside lip on the throttle tube to get the grip up next to the switch housing.
Hey! I have a kawasaki kz550 1981. My throttle side has a 1" O.D handlebar and my right right side had 7/8" O.D. Would these grips work on my handlebars?
A shopper on Nov 30, 2014
BEST ANSWER: My boyfriend installed these for me and he says they should work for your Kawa. Warm hands happy rider!
Hi, I was wondering if the ends of the grip can be cut out for "Bark Busters" without damaging them?
Brian S on Apr 30, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the come with the ends open, I use mine with hand guards and they work perfect. After using them for 2 months in 28 degree montana weather I have to say I love them and I will get them for all my bikes.
