Nolan N104 EVO Helmet - Solid Colors

The N104 EVO is an update of the N104 and combines technical solutions with an improved level of comfort. Its ventilation system, conceived with AirBooster Technology, now offers better internal climate control in every condition. The (patented) chin guard rotation movement with elliptical trajectory makes it possible to keep the total size of the helmet's front section to a minimum, when the chin guard is open. The "sail" effect is consequently highly reduced and riding comfort is still guaranteed, even when the chin guard is lifted. The N104 EVO is also fitted with an ultrawide faceshield, allowing the motorcyclist to enjoy a wider-than-average field of vision. It also comes with a Pinlock ready anti-fog faceshield. A VPS sunscreen, Microlock2 retention system and set up for the N-Com B5 Bluetooth Kit communication system complete the standard outfit of this stunning helmet.

Shell Features:

  • Injected polycarbonate Lexan shell
  • Two Shell engineering allows Nolan N104 EVO to offer sizes from 2XS to 3XL (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
  • Dimensionally-correct sizing allows ample cubic volume in chin/nose area

Faceshield Features:

  • Face shields are sized to fit the two different shell sizes (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
  • Ultra wide eye port opening is the largest on any Nolan helmet for superior visibility
  • Shield is changed by a simple push button mechanism
  • Pinlock shield included with each helmet
  • VPS (Vision Protection System) slider bar to lower the sun shield, push button release for instant retraction
  • VPS lens is scratch and fog resistant

Chin Bar Features:

  • Centromatic chin guard opening mechanism requires dual action, simultaneous action to prevent accidental opening
  • Dual action opening mechanism is positioned in the center of the chin guard and allows for easy, one-handed opening

Ventilation:

  • AIRBOOSTER ventilation system, ensures optimal ventilation where is is most required
  • Air intake in the chin guard draws air in and onto the inside of the faceshield
  • 3 position top vent (closed, crown vent, crown/brow vent)
  • 2 venturi exhaust ports at rear of helmet
  • Plastic vent tube channels in EPS disperse cool air throughout the helmet interior

Inner Liner:

  • Removable cheek pads, inner liner, neck roll and wind protector
  • The inner padding of the N104 EVO is easily removable and washable and antibacterial
  • The shape of the inner comfort padding facilitates eyeglass wearing
  • Reflective insert at the center of the roll neck further improves the rider's visibility at night
  • Neck roll can be removed easily, for more comfort in the warmer months

Other Features:

  • N-Com Communication System-compatible (sold separately)
  • Features Microlock2 quick-release retention system
  • Microlock2 consists of a plastic ergonomic opening lever, and of a second aluminum toothed and holding lever
  • Microlock2 minimizes the possibility of unintentional opening while still making it ergonomic and easy to use
  • Meets or exceeds DOT standards

If you like Arai, you owe it to yourself to try a Nolan.
Rock solid construction. Impressive fit & finish. Clever features like "lock in open" button and snap down sun shade. I've owned only Arai's for the past 20 years but would gladly buy Nolan again.

Good product at a good price: I would buy it again
I was looking for a new helmet and decided to go modular. After trying helmets from three different manufacturers, I decided to purchase the Nolan.

Fit, Comfort and Safety
Every head shape is different, so all I can say is that the Nolan fits true to size. It's a bit oval which matches with my head shape. Comfort wise, it has nice padding which is a good thickness. I've now had it for a few weeks and have put about 300km on it with no pressure points or other areas of discomfort. This helmet is not ECE rated which was a concern to me. Being modular there are also additional points of failure if you do crash. These are trade offs that I accept given the features I wanted in a helmet.

Sound and noise
Being modular, there is wind noise at a higher level than you would find in a comparable full face helmet. Compared to my current full face helmet, it's not as quite but I find it within comfort range. Like any helmet (no matter how quite) I would recommend the use of ear plugs for longer rides. In regards to audio technology, there are speaker pockets that I plan to fill with low tech wired speakers. You can go bluetooth but I personally prefer to keep things simple.

Features
This is where this helmet shines. Pin lock? Check Visor detents with a city position? Check. Ability to lock the chin guard up? Check. Speaking of the chin guard, it stays very close to the helmet in the up position. This is my first modular and I find this functionality really useful as I wear glasses. This also accommodates in-ear headphones if you choose to go that route. Let's not forget the built in sun visor: I commute on my bike and now that the days are getting shorter I have to ride in the dark. It's nice to not have to pack a clear visor (or ride with the visor up at night)

Cool factor
This is a very cool looking lid. My one complaint would be the width of the helmet. Being modular and having an internal sun visor, it is a bit wider which can produce just a bit of the bobble head effect (making your head look giant) but let's remember why we're here: To find functional protective products that *also* look cool. This helmet fits that description.

Overall
I would buy this helmet again. I tried quite a few others over a period of months to find this one and I'm happy with my choice. I would recommend this product if you are looking for a modular helmet.

Some Improvements and One Lost Feature
Having bought a N104 in the first production/release here in the USA, I can compare it with the more recent EVO N104 version, as well as my earlier helmet experiences. The redesigned top vent does flow more air than the previous N104, however the loss of the two(2) front brow vents is not fully compensated by the improved design. Liner and EPS redesign is a bit better. The N104 isn't quite on the level of the Shoei Neotec or the Schuberth C3, but for the price is beter than most others in the same price range. Good enough that I intend to purchase another, a N104 EVO Tech (Corsa red). Ride well, ride safe!

Top of the line for modest price
I've had a Nolan since 2003 and decided it was time to upgrade to a newer version. My #1 priority was noise level and comfort. After doing my research, it was between the Nolan and the Schuberth. The price was the final deciding factor, and I am not disapointed whatsoever so far.

Noise Level:
This is absolutely the quietest helmet I've ever owned. I can't compare it to the Schuberth, but I can tell you it is was night and day difference from my old helmet.

Comfort:
Very comfortable. Nice padding. Easily removable.

Only downside is the sun visor......it doesn't go down enough for my face/eyes and is kind of distracting if I put it down.

I also added the Sena Bluetooth with some modification to the helmet.

All in all I would highly recommend this helmet. Top of the line helmet in the mid-price range!

Great fit!
I just upgraded from my Nolan 102 to the 104evo and am very pleased with the choice. My sena will need to be mounted differently on the new lid, but if that's all I find wrong with the helmet, I'd say I'm a satisfied customer. I'm a huge fan oh Nolans ratchet chin strap!

Another Nolan Winner
I am completely impressed with this helmet which I purchased to replace my most recent Nolan flip-up. Over the past decade I've owned an N100, N100E and an N43 (which I absolutely love for everything but cold weather). Once you get used to the enormous visor and peripheral view of the N43 it's hard to go back to tighter visibility of any other helmet. Until now. The field of vision of this helmet is HUGE. On top of that, the visor mechanism allows you to crack it open just slightly as well as the usual multiple stops. A nice feature.
Everything about the N104 is an improvement on my N100E. The padding is far more plush and fits a bit more snug. The noise level is significantly reduced, latch system works great and it comes with a pin-lock in the box.
The drop down sun-visor is crystal clear, easy to deploy and retract, and is deep enough that it's lower edge is out of view. I never liked the one on my N43 but this one I will definitely use.
The top vent allows a ton of air in but the lower vent seems a bit weak, although this might have more to do with the height of my windscreen than the function of the vent. Even the ratcheting chinstrap latch has improved.
Overall I am totally satisfied with this helmet. It surpassed my expectations. Sweet.

Nolan 104 EVO
2 years and 15,000mls on my previous 104 EVO. Buying the same one again due to recent crash. Stayed snug on my head from start to now. Weight and airflow dynamics were well sorted, not a hindrance. Excellent, quick & reliable sun visor flip up mechanisms. Would have liked slighty larger air flow on/off toggles for winter gloves. Small niggle with the upper air vent scooping up insects inside my face shield but that's a minor point. Definitely not a quiet helmet but I use ear plugs anyway.
Overall, if the kit does what its intended for and doesnt intrude in your conscious thought and you dont need to compensate for it then its functionally good. If it does it well continuously with reliability then its very good value for the money considering its a mid range price. Very pleased with the EVO 104.

Excellent helmet
I've had the helmet for 2 days now so I'll give my initial impressions.
The helmet is extremely light and quiet for a modular befitting the price and the chin bar pivots up is brilliant, you don't look like an idiot when you need to talk to someone.

The face shield has excellent clarity and because it was designed for the pinlock system the pinlock plate doesn't obstruct your vision at all. The detents are actually in the right places, the "city" or just cracked detent allows for more airflow without blowing straight into your eyes.

The sun visor could be darker but otherwise functions very well and is easy to manipulate with gloves on.

Air flow is for the most part very good keeping my face cool and the top of my head dry and cool, my only issue is that no air reaches my forehead or ears leaving them sweaty if the face shield is down.

My Sena was easy to install using the clamp with some minor modifications using a dremel tool to cut a slot in the housing for the N-COM system. The speaker cutouts are the perfect size and the area built for the N-COM holds all the wires nicely. There's a chance I may be able to find a USB battery pack that will fit in the cavity at the base of the neck.

My only serious gripe with this helmet is the neck roll and chin guard, first you won't ever get the helmet on without lifting the chin bar. I would feel safe not doing up the clasp because the helmet is not coming off of your head, ever. I was able to hold up my 210 lbs off the ground using just the helmet with no strap. This is great for fitment because the helmet is comfortable once it's on but if you wear ear plugs or especially ear buds they will be knocked out when you pull the helmet on. I had to cut my green foam plugs in half so that they fit far enough into my ear not to get snagged.

Secondly, while the back and sides of the neck roll make a seal against your neck there are gaps between the chin guard and the neck roll. When you're riding on a cold morning, air comes up through these two gaps and your nose and face get very cold.

Overall I am very pleased with this helmet so far and once I figure out the neck roll gap it will be almost perfect.

Great Helmet
I received my N104 EVO a couple of days ago and had to give it a whirl in this cold weather. First, the fit is comfortably snug. I would say the chart is spot on. Its relatively quiet. I ride a HD Road King with stock pipes. The view port is great. No fog.The sunshade feature is a real plus. The quick release is a great feature. Nolan makes a strong product. You feel the quality. This is a great all around helmet. In the price range, for a modular, it can't be beat. Thanks Revzilla !!!
