Nexx XR2 Carbon Zero Helmet

With the Nexx X.R2 Carbon Zero Helmet, the best just got better. The two top vents are redesigned to increase airflow and reduce noise levels, carrying more fresh air directly to the forehead and interior of the helmet. The XR2 spoiler and aerodynamic profile reduce turbulence at high speeds. A race-ready flat face-shield has posts for tear-offs and Pinlock insert (both sold separately). The Easy Lock shield is more soundproof and airtight. The carbon fiber weave shell is state-of-the-art, offering performance driven weight savings and improved safety. The Nexx XR2 is a combination of technology, comfort and protection that helps you keep your mind on the road.

Note: The XR2 has a fairly long narrow internal shape. It is best for people who need more forehead room but conversely it is less suitable for people who need more room in the ear and temple area.

  • Carbon fiber shell
  • 3 density EPS / impact absorption levels
  • 2 shell sizes: 2XS - LG and XL - 3XL

Worth the weight
When the helmet arrived I was very impressed with the weight. Comparing it to my Shoei it was obviously lighter. Weight was one of the main reasons I made the purchase. My old neck just doesn't support heavy helmets like it used to. The style was not an important factor in my choice but the helmet does look nice. The vents work well but not used on an open bike so I am sure they work very well as even behind a fairing I could get some air movement. A nice feature was the accommodations for speakers without protruding into the helmet head space. I made phone calls while traveling at freeway speeds and everyone thought I was calling from nextdoor plus I could hear them plainly. (use a Sena smh10# Not a totally quiet helmet but with some wind and bike noise to be expected. One small issue was with the initial try on. I have a xxxl head and when first trying to get the helmet on I thought for sure they had sent me a too small helmet. I had to "rock" it on front then back. Once on no problem and a comfortable firm fit. I would make one recommendation and that would be to include a suture kit to sew your ears back on after removal of the helmet. #Just kidding of course) Once used a few times and adjusting to the technique of putting it on and off, no problem. This is the most expensive helmet I have ever bought but worth the money. So far I have used the helmet on one 1700 mile trip and can think of no issues with the helmet. The light weight is a real plus with this helmet. My neck thanks it. Also the bike used was a K1200GT with a laminar lip on the windshield.

GREAT AT MANY THINGS, lacks in a few key areas to make it good for me for everyday.
If you are going to track and want the lightest helmet with the best view size and great airflow, this helmet is amazing.
If you are summer riding you will love it, it is a great helmet overall.
4-5 star at what it does right, but at the price it is not well rounded, if it was only made for sport and track, it does well, not a great riding helmet for everyday for everyone.
BUT there are plenty of reason to give this helmet a chance and you may absolutely love it for all it does well.

Rider specs: I Rode this Helmet on a Triumph Speed triple with extra windscreen and a CBR600RR...I am 5'10. Currently have a Matte Black Bell Star 2016 size medium. I have also owned HJC, Arai Defiant, Shoei Hornet X2 all in medium.

Pros:
-Beautiful looking helmet (though the carbon fiber had some lines that were off at times)
-So stinkin light you will feel like your wearing a bowling ball with other helmets
-nice wide chin straps
-speaker pockets for comms system
-Pinlock ability
-excellent aerodynamics
-great airflow
-Great vision n the road you can see everything
-Best Silver Shield I have had or seen.

Cons:
-odd head shape neither small nor medium really fit me right, it needed a longer back of head than I have apparently.
-whistling and chin vent that would not full properly close
-Shield way to difficult to open without pulling hold head back
-Foam pad/support piece at base of the head was poorly designed and glued, mine did not appear to be placed right as the whole piece wasn't secured with glue and half fre floating in helmet and than half of the foam had torn off (I returned it because of this, I should not have to re glue and re position pieces within a safety device, Not bought from Revzilla.)
-With great airflow comes inability to cut air out of helmet, chin curtain basically worthless.
-At this price point a Pinlock lens should be included
-I also found this helmet to be noisy in comparison to other helmets I have worn.

Looks great, has some kinks
The Carbon Zero is astonishingly light. The medium is around 1300g which feels great on long rides. I came from a scorpion r2000 (6lbs) which would strain my neck on longer rides. I haven't run into any issues with the Nexx. After three hours straight on an r6 the only thing hurting was my back.

The design is beautiful. I'm usually not a fan of carbon but Nexx did a great job on this one. Ordered a dark smoke visor along with the helmet and it all looks so sleek. The fit is even better than the r2000, then again this helmet is double the price, and you can tell that all of the money went into the helmet itself and nothing else. The r2000 came with a nice soft thick bag along with an extra visor. Nexx offers no such thing. What you get is a helmet and a helmet alone, practically. The bag that Nexx provides is so thing that it'd offer no protection if you were to accidentally drop the thing while bagged up. Extra visors are around $60 at the moment and I don't see them going down soon.

The removal of the visor itself is scary. You have to really pull on the thing to the point where it feels like it's about to snap, and the release of the visor is violent. There is no button to depress or tab to pull. The fastshot button on the sides slide up, and out. Build quality on the buttons themselves are decent, but one day while riding I was pulling my visor down and had one of the buttons pop right off. $15 for a replacement which is a bit of a rip if you ask me, but it's understandable. Nexx did everything they could to keep the weight down on this helmet, so some luxuries had to be sacrificed.

As for the locking of the visor itself, I am very disappointed. There isn't a tab the the visor slips into nor is there a slider to lock the visor down. You need to push down on the visor until it locks into place, and to unlock it requires quite a bit of force. Airflow is great. I've yet to complain about heat, but then again it's almost spring.

To boil it all down, if you want a lightweight helmet that looks and feels great, this is your best bet. If you want something with a plethora of vents and smooth visor movement, look elsewhere.

Great Helmet!
I have had this helmet for about a month, and have loved every minute of it. I don't think it is possible to make a helmet look more attractive. The CARBON fiber looks wicked matched up with the dark smoke screen. It is crazy light and the screen provides a very large view to see out of. All in all this helmet works great at the track, and works great on the street for daily use.

By far hands down best helmet i have ever had
I received the xr2 carbon ZERO as well as the dark smoke face shield and pinlock last month and when the box on my porch came I didn't know what it was at first....the box was so light. I always liked the xr2 series but the PURE had too much going on for me and I didn't like the way it looked. but when the ZERO came out it was perfect. I opened it up and found my helmet. First use I was in shock how awesome the helmet felt and looked it's extremely light and I love all the carbon fiber. I fitted my Sena 10s to the side and fitment is great. I couldn't say any more good things about the helmet and nothing bad.

Lightest weight with great visibility!!!
The helmet was worth the wait (was sold out). It is 1270gms for the Medium, right out of the box; tag on the helmet says, "1300gms without accessories." It is so light when first put it on (compared to my ol' 1669gm helmet) the "Zero" almost feels like a toy. The first ride convinced me of the delight of such light weight. I'm small (and old), so I appreciate the weight loss compared to my old helmet. And, the Zero fits me fine. I measure at 57.5cms, right in the middle of the published size chart for Medium. I hope it gets little easier to get off after its worn a while, though--I'd really like to keep my ears!

Venting seems to work well but I'll know more when summer arrives--only in the high 80s here today. It's not particularly quiet but riding with ear-protection it's perfectly fine. I did notice that it is noisier in a full tuck, but on an FZ-07 I never right that way.

Style is a personal issue, of course, and I'd prefer none of the molded-in logos and such (more like the new carbon Simpson that has nothing but easily peeled off stickers), but there are much worse, imho. My only gripe is that the "buckle" thingee, though nicely padded, fits right under the center of my chin and not off the side, which I find more comfortable. I suppose I'll get used to this... or, have my wife fix it.

Contrary to what some reviewers report, mine arrived in perfect condition. And, for those who gripe about how much effort it takes to remove the shield or how the unconventional guts come out or install, may I respectfully suggest watching the videos here... they show it all.

Overall, this fully carbon helmet seems to be well worth the bucks and I look forward to many comfortable miles in the NEXX Carbon Zero.

Finally, revzilla personel were quite helpful in sizing and buying this, as it was sold out when I decided to order.

Pictured is what's in the box and a shot of the underside. Normally, I remove all stickers but I'm leaving the one that notes the emergency removable cheek pads!!!

Great helmet for the money
This helmet has an excellent field of vision in any direction because the visor is tall as well as very wide. It is also extremely light and features great ventilation. Another positive is that the shape of the helmet allows you to wear eyeglasses with no interference at all. The only negatives I can think of are the old fashioned chin strap buckle and the noticeable (but not overbearing) wind noise. But noise comes with moving air, and I'll take the ventilation over perfect quiet every time!

Why is this helmet more expensive than other nexx xr2 carbon?
A shopper on Mar 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Because it is 3 ounces lighter. :)
Is it eyewear compatible?
jmead75 on May 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes i love it since I do wear glasses it does move enough air so my glasses don't fog up and I also love the bigger visor opening it helps me see even better In a tuck cause now I'm not looking at the rim plus my glasses so to me that's a plus. If you do wear glasses I would buy this helmet. Cause I just might buy me another one.
I am in between sizes large and extra large which size do you recommend ?
Phillip R on Mar 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I had an Icon Lifefrom in Medium and fit me perfectly. However, I ordered this helmet in size Medium and i found out that I need a Large. The helmet fit too tight on my cheeks and had a really hard time taking it off. I would say the fit is close to arai helmet, but more narrowed than oval. So, If you have an oval shape, then go for Extra Large. I hope that helped you out a bit
Is this an intermediate or long oval head shape?
A shopper on May 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Intermediate
Does this helmet meet the strict Australian Standards foe motor cycle helmets ?
Phillip R on Mar 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yep :) ECE 22-05 now legal in Australia.
