Works at less than 65 mph
I purchased the tall touring screen because I didn't want a tinted screen, and they only offer clear in the tall. Sometimes, on other bikes in downpours, I have tucked down and looked through the screen. I don't like to look through tinted. So, the screen is too tall- I'm short, and had to look through it all the time. I installed it, and checked it out. Lots of buffeting at over 65 mph. At 85, the movement from buffeting was severe enough to make my vision jiggle. My ears (with earplugs) thrum with the vibration. I cut 2 1/2" off the screen, and the buffeting, surprisingly, didn't really change at all. I know that 85 might seem excessive to some, but on 5-6,000 mile tours, originating in the Midwest, a lot of the freeway travel can be at those speeds, if you are trying to get to a destination/ riding type quickly.
Having said all that, at 55 mph, this is a great shield. If you are dinging around on county roads at the posted limit, you will love it. I also believe that the material and finish are very good. After I cut the screen down, I polished off some tape adhesive. No micro scratches whatsoever. The stock screen scratches if you look at it out of the corner of your eye. I have had a number of screens in the past 35 years, and this material might be the best.
Installation, as you might guess, is a breeze. Four replacement bolts, spacers, and washers, and you're done.
The manufacturer should offer a clip-on laminar lip, or create one, as I think that would solve the problem, and maybe even get some protection for a passenger.
My bike reads as an ST1300, but this shield is on my 2015 V-Strom 1000.
