Michelin Pilot Road 3 Rear Tires

Building on the tremendous reputation Michelin has built over the years, the Michelin Pilot Road 3 Tire is the successor to the award winning Pilot Road 2. With the Michelin Pilot Road 3 Motorcycle Tire you are really getting 2 tires in 1, by integrating a soft rubber compound on the tread shoulders with a wear-resistant compound down the middle, Michelin gives you the best of both worlds. The Pilot Road 3 is a dual compound sport-touring radial tire.

Revolutionary X-Sipes technology maximizes wet traction

  • Michelin’s newest technology delivers all-weather performance without compromising tread life or handling
  • Patented innovation resulting from years of research and development
  • Sipes increase the tread's drainage capacity
  • Sipes generate pressure at the edges of the sipe blade, which helps to break through water film

Two compound technology combines tread life and cornering grip

  • 2CT incorporated into all tire sizes, front and rear
  • Wider soft-compound shoulders on the front tire, compared to its predecessor

High performance and environmentally sound

  • 100% non-aromatic-oil rubber compound

Note: Sizes denoted by "B" are designed specifically for loaded sport touring bikes, or for riding two-up.

Need more tires to be like these...
I bought my bike last year, and the factory tires lasted only 7.5k of riding to school and work. The search started for replacement tires, after reading through so many forums and sites I decided to give these a try.
As soon as they arrived I had a local shop install them and needless to say, I have put 15.5k miles on these tires and still going strong.
I do a lot of freeway and side street commute to school and work and do occasional canyon rides here in So.Cal. And yes, rain or shine I do ride still.

Images are attached to this...feel free to browse and see what I am talking about...

Feels good, but different
Lots of people have reviewed this tire and mentioned that it wears well, has great grip and is probably the best rain tire out there. I’ll make the point that it feels different than other sport oriented tires. The Michelin “Pilot Road” tires have always had a bull nosed, flatter profile. The PR3 continues this. I just switched from Conti Sport Attack to the PR3 on my K1300S, and handling is much different. Not good or bad. Just different. The Sport Attack encourages quick turn in, and transitions with less effort. To me it is a “go where you look” tire. The PR3 is very smooth in transitions and very neutral through the turn requiring more counter steer to initiate and transition, but no effort to hold a line. The Sport Attack required less effort to change mid corner. To me the PR3 is biased more to the tour in sport touring. It tracks straight with less effort, and is much more confidence inspiring in a corner because it is not as sensitive to mid corner input as a sport tire. I felt the same difference on a friend’s Interceptor when he had a fresh set of PR3s. Relative to the sport/track/race tires, the PR3 is more of a “go where you think” tire. I took my wife for a ride after an initial scrub in and asked her if she could feel any difference. As a pillion her comment was “yeah… the transitions seem smoother and it tracks better”. If she can feel the difference on the back, I assume most riders will too. To me, this style of tire is what I want on my road bike. Thinking about trying the PR3 Trail on my GSA for summer trips too.

As always, you get what you pay for
I have always been a Pilot Power 2CT rider since I began on the street. I needed a new set of tires for my 2012 Z1000 and my friend turned me to the Road 3s. I was skeptical at first; I have been using the same tire for years and I wanted the grip that the 2CTs offer. I have been surprised. After the scrub period, I decided to give the Road 3s a little test. I grabbed an arm full of throttle mid turn and the response was nothing but stable, aggressive acceleration. I would have thought there would have been some slipping with a bike looking at 70+ lbs of torque at the wheel. For the track it would be a different story; however, if you suffer from the disease known as hooliganism, these tires will be more than capable to handle your street needs.

This is the best street tire for imperfect streets.
If you live in Montana,Wyoming,The Dakotas,Or just live somewhere that you encounter less than perfect street conditions,This tire is for you.
It is better than the Newer model.
It works great on supermotos,Cruisers,Sport bikes,And touring machines.
I currently have it on a WR250XX and a ZX14R SE.
Very versatile tire.

Great Tires
I have used these in all weather conditions; light rain, heavy rain, frost, sleet, hail, snow (1-2 inches), 25 degrees F thru 100+ degrees F.

Long trips, commuting, street, highway. Doing about an average of 1000 miles a month.

I have put about 19000 miles on a set of front and rears and they are still going. I think they may last 25k maybe even 30k. Flattening is visible but not bad at all thanks to 2ct. Tires will corner hard, and allow for a lot of lean on public roads, nearly scrubbed the tires edges to edge (about 0.25" left untouched) They also warm up pretty fast on cold days.

Wet grip is amazing, will still be able to take a 270 deg off ramp turn post for 25 mph at 40-50mph in the wet (granted I also have DTC) I am even passing awd cars and 4x4 trucks/suvs on the highway with 1-2 inches of snow down. These tires inspire confidence in un-desirable weather conditions.

Great tires for anyone in the Pacific Northwest like climates.

Best Riding Tire.
I have had just about every tire on my bikes you can think of. The thing that I like about this tire the most is the tread life... The second, smooth controlled ride. Third, confidence in corners. Fourth, best rain tire on the market (other than the Pilot Road 4).
I have been riding for thirty years and this tire is well worth the buck($). Pirelli, Dunlop, Bridgestone, Conti, Menzler, and then the lower shelf tires come close in a lot of different ways but none of them come close in all of the ways a rider demands in a tire. Each Gen of Michelin Pilot Road gets better and better in every way. The most stable all around tire.
Twisties, straight-a-ways, bad weather, and long rides this is the tire. I could go on and it would just be repeating myself as I have already have. I also could tell you a story of how I drove some race through Monti Carlo on a Ducati, in the sleet, blind folded, scraping my knees, and scraping my helmet on buildings at 165 mph but why? That has nothing to do with the tires specifically that is more of a testament of my superior driving skills. Too Funny... These are great tires and you cannot go wrong. Ride safe and PEACE!

The best all around tire
I've been riding on this tire for about 1000 miles now and I have to say that they are definitely a great pick for the all-around rider. They heat up decently quick and provide great traction in the twisties. I wanted to have a little longevity in my tire along with good wet handling so I went with the PR3's over the PP3's. I wouldn't recommend them for the track but for your daily commuter or spirited street rider, THE BUCK STOPS HERE!!!

Impressive Tires.
These tires surprised me right off the bat. My order came in 3 business days with free shipping! Got em installed and the traction is a tremendous difference from my stock Dunlop roadsmarts. My fz6r feels nimbler and I have more confidence making aggressive turns. Riding in the wet is much safer as I am more confident which is quite nice and is actually what drew me to these tires along with tread life. The price is worth it. Research reviews of the tire online and from everyday folks on youtube.

Excellent tires, worth the price
Returned from a club trip to heavy rain on Interstate 66. Tires handled the wet roads without a slip. There must have been a half inch of water on the roadway at times and the bike never felt out of control - and i was driving at speed limit speeds.
