First Class Add On
The only difficult part for me in installing the Machineart Moto MudSling on my 2011 R1200R was removing the two Star (Torx) T25 screws underneath the wheel well. I bought Torx screw drivers but the screws wouldn't budge. Once I used Torx head sockets from Harbor Freight, the screws came right out. It does help to have two people to line up the MudSling so that it has proper clearance from the rear shock. The final thing, after inserting and tightening the longer screws supplied, is fitting and tightening long, black, plastic ties to the frame. Everything is very snug, and the MudSling looks like it's an OEM part, rather than an add on. (The New Jersey guy who makes this borrows a BMW from Hermy's Cycle in Port Clinton, PA to exactly measure, shape and produce this part.)

Should have been a factory part!
The MudSling is a great addition to the R1200R.

Functionally, it keeps water and dirt from the read tire from spraying on the rear shock and under-seat/battery area.

Aesthetically, it does so while looking like it could have come on the bike from the factory. The Machineart Moto logo is really the only sign that it isn't.

The only small detail that looks out of place at all is the use of zip ties to help hold the sling firmly against the frame, but even those are hard to distinguish from wiring zip ties on the bike from the factory.

Machineart Moto Mud$ling.
Of course, great service form Revzilla as usual.

The Moto Mudsling was easy to install and I was impressed by the excellent finish and quality of the product. Now, I know that the R1200R is not one of the most popular models for BMW, but I feel the price for a molded piece of plastic was excessive. I guess Machineart Moto don't sell enough to justify a lower price based on quantity. I shopped high and low for a similar product at a cheaper (sub $100) price, but could find none. Apparently Machineart Moto has cornered the market on this product. There are products out there that serve the same function, but are considerably more expensive.

The Mudsling will save hours of time in trying to keep the spray and road slime out of the shock / battery compartment areas under the seat. So, I held my breath and bought the product.

Over time, I will forget about the cost, just like Disney World.

Expensive for what you get, but very functional.
I've been looking at this for over a year. I promised myself if I installed new shocks, I would purchaser and install this simultaneously to protect my investment from road debris.

It's wider than it looks, and offers substantial protection to the rear shock and surrounding area. The screws that come with it aren't stainless steel (and in my opinion they should be considering the price). It also attaches to the frame with two cable ties on each side. I was not crazy about this, but there really is no other option, and it is surprisingly solid once in place.

I've not had it out in any wet weather, but now that it's installed I can say It looks promising that it will provide the protection that I'm after. Looks factory, and merges nicely with the existing rear fender and is inconspicuous. I'm pretty happy with it!

will this work on my 2016 bmw r1200rs ?

Will this fit the R NineT?
David L on Jul 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The Rear Fender fitted my R1200R perfectly and I have not had any problems with it and its been over 1 year.

However your R Nine T may have different mounting points and architecture.
So you may have to investigate further.

Best of luck.
