What's this?

LS2 FF324 Metro Rapid Helmet

The LS2 Metro Modular Motorcycle helmet is one of the most innovative flip-up style helmets LS2 has ever developed. With a lightweight, aerodynamic shell and 3 shell sizes, the Metro Helmet offers a perfect fit and the smallest shell possible. A full metal latch assures the chin bar will stay locked when closed, and a solid detent at the top so it won’t drop unexpectedly. There’s an additional locking switch that allows you to lock the chin bar in the open position. The chin bar has four removable plates that cover large intake vents, and removing them gives you ventilation similar to an MX helmet.

The shield is optically correct, is scratch/UV resistant and changed quickly and easily with the tool-less quick change system. The Metro uses LS2's Twin Shield System drop down sun shield that is cable-operated for a smooth, and easy to use operation...even with a gloved hand.

The removable, washable comfort padding uses breathable technical fabric and is easy to keep as fresh as new. The cheek pads use ultra-high quality foam that is cut to shape using LS2’s 3D laser technology for all day comfort and no hot spots. Fully adjustable, flow through ventilation keeps you cool and more in control when the weather gets rough. A DOT approved quick release chinstrap makes it a breeze to get the helmet off and on your head.

Features:

  • Dual homologation as both a full face and an open face helmet
  • 3 shell sizes
  • Kinetic Polymer Alloy (KPA) shell made from a  proprietary blend of polycarbonate, space age thermoplastics and additional materials specifically formulated by LS2
  • Multi-density EPS
  • 3D optically correct face shield with Quick Release System
  • Removable and washable comfort liner
  • Inner drop down sun shield
  • Top and chin vents with summer vents and an exhaust port in back
  • Quick release, security plate reinforced strap
  • Emergency release system cheek pads with laser cut foam
  • Neck roll
  • Breath deflector
  • Bluetooth ready
  • DOT approved

WAY better than I expected
The only thing keeping this excellent helmet from 5 stars is the noise level, which seems unfair as it is a modular so noise will always be higher but them's the breaks.

This is the first helmet I've owned that I actually enjoy putting on before a ride. I've had Nolans, Scorpions, the odd Bell here and there, but this little fella feels like a dream putting on.

Plenty of space for my bluetooth mic to not brush my lips, a small but very useful chin curtain, and a "dark but not too dark" sun visor are great too. But the comfort of the helmet (after the usual "ouch my cheeks" after a few hours break in) is what will make me recommend this lid to any and every one.

I've only put in about 1000 miles with this helmet so far, but as of right now it is the best one I have ever owned.

Needs improvement
I've been using the LS2 Metro helmet for nearly 2 months now and here are my thoughts:

Pros: Good value and features for the money. Plenty of airflow, drop down visor is a nice touch, face shield detents, and the modular design is actually nice and unobtrusive. Comfort-wise I found the sizing to be spot on. After a few rides the cheek pads felt broke in and comfort was even better.

Cons: For a street/commuter style helmet the wind noise was actually louder than I expected. It was comparable to my dual sport helmet so that was frustrating. I'm riding an F800GS so the windshield is small and obviously part of the problem. Behind the windshield wind noise was quite low. Nothing has broken on me in terms of major parts but the biggest problem with this helmet is the front vents. While great in warmer weather (I rode with no vents down to 40 degrees) you cannot close them. LS2 gives you these plastic covers for the vents....what a joke! 1 out of 4 I got to even snap in. They do not fit any of the holes or snap in. The 2nd one I tried putting in the tabs broke immediately. Total junk here so expect no ability to close the front vents.

Honestly if LS2 would fix the front vents this helmet would be an excellent commuter value. For now it is my highway helmet of choice since I do not want to spend double for similar helmets. I'm not sure why helmets are so expensive but if you are like me and have a budget this is a nice option. Just remember the front vents you will need your own solution to close or consider a balaclava.

Great finish, Fits very tight at jaw, Huge eye port and Massive Airflow
Pros,

Airflow, venting
Weight
Vision
Looks cool

Cons,

Noise
Tight in the Jaw
Sits close to face

I bought this helmet based on airflow. This helmet is the coolest I have ever ridden in thanks to the cheek vents. I have not utilized the cheek covers, so I don't know how well they work: however, they are difficult to remember which vent each one fits. I recommend labeling them immediately. To install, make sure you have the proper cover in the correct orientation, slide the front clip under the vent port edge, then push gently forward until the back clip snaps into place. They are delicate plastic pieces, so be careful.

Weight is fairly light for a modular. This helmet doesn't feel any heavier than my old Scorpion EXO-500, and it's a modular.

The eye port is huge, giving great peripheral vision (best I have ever had) . The visor is optically correct. The fog fighter shield comes with installation directions; however, you are not told that it is wrapped in a protective blue film on both sides. It appears that the film is on the fog fighter before it is form cut, so it is hard to see the protective film edge. Once the shipping film is removed, the fog fighter is crystal clear. The internal sun visor is dark smoke, yes it is actually dark. it drops down beyond normal vision. Cable actuation works perfectly and is very quiet in operation.

This helmet is noisy. You should expect that from the massive venting. I ride with Earfuse earbuds and it sounds like I'm in a car with the windows down. It is loud, but not high pitched, so the annoyance level is low. This is to be expected from the large cheek ports. I have not ridden with the cheek vent covers, so i don't know how much that will cut down on the noise.

Fit. For most of my head this helmet fits perfect. There are 2 issues, and one of them nearly had me sending the helmet back.
1. The modular face fits very close to my nose and chin. The inside of the modular face is a little wide and I can not use the chin skirt without resting my chin on it.
2. When the modular face is in the down (riding) position, it pushes in on my jaw. Initially the cheek pad foam was very stiff and this was causing soreness in my jaw. I almost sent this helmet back because of that, but elected to try breaking it in. After 200-300mi the cheek pads softened up, and now the fit is tight without pressure unless I clench my jaw. This gives me an indication of when I begin to ride tense, and reminds me to relax.

All in all, this is a great helmet for the price. I recommend the Metro Rapid helmet for any rider on a $300 budget. just remember to wear in those cheek pads.

Excellant helmet
I've ridden about 1k miles with this helmet so far and overall I am very please. Replaced a Shoei Multitec Modular.

Pros: Prices, style, fit, internal sun visor, ratchet strap. removable liner.
Cons: Anti-fog system is inferior to pinlock. Chin vents let in a lot of water.

I really like this helmet. It's easy to get on and off and the internal sun shield is a a great bonus. Easy to operate and very effective. I got the LS2 Metro Rapid Helmet with the graphics so it looks cool to me. The clear shield is easy to operate with gloves and has a number of positions. Venting is good. Almost too good. In a heavy downpour I get a lot of water through the chin vents. Good trade off for the air that moves through. The anti-fog system compared to the pinlock on the shoei is probably the only remarkable negative. Being able to crack the visor one or two indents helps compensate for that negative.

Conclusion: If you are looking for an inexpensive helmet with all the features of a high price helmet your search is over. I would recommend this helmet and buy it again

Very impressive so far
I am still breaking this helmet in but I have been very impressed with how much air this helmet lets through. It is still hot here on the East Coast and this is a welcome feature.

The LS2 also seems to have a much larger eye port than my previous helmets. Very good visibility.

I can't comment on some of the complaints about noise as I always wear ear plugs, so I haven't noticed a difference.

Finally I will have to admit that it was the looks of this helmet that caused me to consider it in the first place. Most modular helmets are so plain but the LS2 has just enough color to make it really stand out.

LS2 Metro Rapid Modular helmet
The helmet was a bit snug at the start, I am figuring it will
loosen up with wear! Lots of air flow, mainly because of the
4 vents on the chin bar. There are covers for the chin bar
vents if I want to close them, they are separate pieces,
not integrated into the chin bar.
Price was very good!!!!!

Great first Helmet
I purchased the 2x and had to exchange for the 3X which fit perfect on my big mellon. The exchange process was very easy and quick. As several have already mentioned it is loud at high way speeds, so I strongly recommend ear plugs. Great bang for the buck and comparable to much more expensive helmets. I would definitely recommend this helmet for those who want a modular helmet that doesn't break the bank.
