Stylish, Protective, High Quality, Thoughtful Ergonomics
What I really like about this engine guard design is its low profile and smart look. The bar is bent in a way that keeps the riders comfort in mind, rather than just trying to replicate some old school look with clumsy clamp-on foot pegs. The fold out foot pegs in the Kuryakyn Ergo Plus are integrated into the design of the bar. It is sleek and purposeful and ergonomic. I also like that this highway bar design interferes less with the lean angle than other highway bar designs.

However, it fell short of 5-stars for me because I think the design could leave extra room for the break pedal and toe shifter. Kuryakyn provides the parts to shorten the break pedal, but that is additional work, which I believe might not be necessary if they only tweaked the design of the bar. That said, after about an hour of riding, muscle memory takes over and you will quickly learn to reposition your feet to minimize interference from the Kuryakyn bar.

Warning to taller riders, this product may not be optimal for you. Right on the front cover of the Kuryakyn Engine Guard Ergo Plus box it says, "Optimal for riders with a 30" inseam". I am about 5'9" with a 30" Inseam, this engine guard fits me and riders a little shorter than me very well. I would say if your inseam is no greater than 32" you should be fine too. But beyond that your legs will be too long to comfortably rest on the bar or foot pegs - this engine guard is not for you.

Also, I wear size 9 engineer boots when I ride, I can get away with not installing the shorter break pedal-arm that comes with this kit. But if you wear a size 10 or greater, then you will absolutely need to change to a shorter break lever-arm.

Overall, I really like this engine guard. I am the right size for it and it truly is very comfortable, well thought out and ergonomically well designed. In summary, I high recommend this unit to riders under 6 feet tall.

Saved my life...literally
I am a fan of highway bars. These were my second ones I bought for my 2008 HD Cross Bones. I first bought the Linbar, but the ones they sent didn't fit. So I bought these ones after selling the Linbar to my buddy. It was easy to install (three bolts) and it looked good on the bike. They were comfortable riding because it gave me more places to put my feet on long rides. Most of all, they saved my life and my legs. on Sunday June 11, a group of buddies and I were coming back from a 3 day ride. I was lead and a Semi truck pulled out in front of me. I tried to stop and maneuver but there was no place to go. The best did was position the bike to hit on my left side. I was able to bring the bike down to 45 mph (I think) before hitting the semi. These bars took much of the impact. The bike is totaled, but I have my life and my legs because of these bars. They are durable, the finish after the collusion is decently good (considering) and three bolts are pretty easy to install with a wrench and a ratchet. I'll buy them again when I get a new bike.

According to Kuryakyn as well as Revzilla, these engine guards "should" fit on my softail slim. I guess will see if they know what they're talking about when these arrive.
