Excellent helmet at this price point
Finally a helmet under $200 that has vents and also fits my mostly oval head. It’s been a long journey. I’ve been looking for an open face helmet, with shield, for about a month. Tried the HJC IS-33 II, AFX FX-43, GMax GM67, Scorpion EXO-CT220, Bell Mag-9 Sena, and finally the Kabuto Avand II.

The fit and finish of the Kabuto is impressive at its price point. The EXO-CT220 is a close second followed by the IS-33 II. The biggest disappointment was the Mag-9 Sena. I wanted to like that helmet but couldn’t due to the forehead snaps of the interior liner; right side one created a pressure point when wearing the helmet and since it’s plastic it’s not going anywhere (won’t “break in”).

Back to the Kabuto Avand II. I went with the Eternal Blue since it’s something different and it, to me, looks great in person. It has a very slight metallic sparkle in bright sunlight. Cool Max interior is comfortable and living in Florida will hopefully be an advantage. Venting is pretty good. I wondered about the placement of the rear ports at the top but I can feel the air moving over the top of my head.

The only thing I can grumble about is the chin strap. Sorta presses into my throat more than I’d like; but not enough to return the helmet.

Finally, sizing. I have just about a 22” melon so this places me in 99% of helmets the top end of size small. For the Kabuto I had to size up to a medium. The small was like trying to wear an XS, way too snug and no way it would break in enough that it would be relatively comfortable.

And as always, thanks Revzilla for the outstanding customer service.

Nice Helmet for an Oval Head Shape
Short version:
Pros:
-Inexpensive
-Quality is reasonably good
-Finish is nice (matte black version)
-Quick latching strap is very easy to operate
-Vents are very simple and easy to operate
-Looks nice without overly aggressive styling (appropriate for my cruiser)
-Feels fine with glasses/sunglasses
-Excellent vision; 99% unobstructed for me
-Clear image through the face shield, no apparent distortion

-Cons
-Face shield is close to my face and chin and fogs easily
-No integrated sun visor
-Would love a chin-guard/modular attachment

Why 5 stars? I feel this helmet and it's features are a good value, and little improvement could be expected while keeping within this same price range.

Longer Version:
I was looking for an open face 3/4 helmet, but had problems with my big oval head. I tried on quote a few styles and brands at local shops, with no clear winners. I liked the Scorpion and HJC models best for price, looks, and features, but both were a tight fit on my crown and forehead. I liked the 'Avand 2' for looks, and tried it based on another review reporting it fit oval heads better (thanks Eleison). I would have preferred it have an integrated sun visor as many competing models do, but this was obviously not a deal breaker. Also, I feel like the absence of this option keeps the helmet thinner and lighter (the Scorpion models I tried looks very large on my already large head). I fell on the upper end of size-chart for XL, but ordered and XL anyways. I found the XL fit a bit snug, but comfortable even at initial fitting, and is great now I have worn it a for a few hours on the road.

It is winter, so I cannot comment on cooling but I did try it and didn't feel an incredible amount of flow. The helm is open faced, so it was tough to really judge fairly how well it will serve as the days get warmer here in NC. However I did find it to be reasonably warm for me, and the visor seemed to do a good job of diverting the cool air around me.

The noise level seemed reasonable but not 'quiet' at highway speeds, and I didn't notice much lifting or buffeting for normal driving, but I almost exclusively drive in-town and usually under 60 mph.

Best open face helmet for the price.
Quiet, comfortable, light, nice style, and good quality. I checked out several helmets in this price range and this surpasses them all. I have a medium oval head and had a hard time finding a relatively inexpensive open face helmet that was not on the rounder side. This one is it. I'm going to get a second one for my wife. Highly recommended.

Great helmet for the money.
I tried on several other helmets locally ranging from sub $100 all the way to top dollar. I found this one here and on paper it had all the features I was looking for. I like the quick release buckle. The venting works fairly well. I haven't ridden with a full face so I can't compare the noise levels but I don't think this one is super loud. I feel safe when I have it on as the construction seems decent. I would recommend this to someone who is looking for the 3/4 helmet but doesn't want to pay Shoei prices.

Excellent value!
The website was extremely helpful in describing the facets of the helmet. The video was bang-on! The value was incredible and would happily buy and again and recommend the site and helmet to others! If you are buying, pay attention to the video, it will help you make a solid decision.

Nice helmet, good value
Very pleased with this helmet. Sizing was a little difficult. I usually wear a large but measured a medium per the sizing chart. It was too small. Returned for a large and fit was perfect. Great air flow, reasonably quite and lighter that the brand I've used for years. High end features at a reasonable price. Time will tell about the quality, but it looks and feels to be quite robust.

Hi -Vis Great.Light Weight and Cool
Thanks to Peter for great recommendation. Tried two others that I picked out that did not work. Peter got it right the first time. Great return policy for first time helmet buyer. Wear glasses and get helmet on and off with no problem. Have windshield so no noise but good air flow for 90 plus degree riding.

Great Bang for the Buck
After seeingyour review for this helmet I decided to give it a try. I currently own a Fly Tourist which is a decent helmet for its price. The Avand 2 is a step up in fit and finish. The helmet looks great and the materials feel like that of a helmet costing in the 200 buck range. I like the quick release strap very much and it operates easily. As previously stated the shield is very close to your face which allows for lost of fogging, but disappears quickly, but it also allows for great sight!!! The shell itself is very nice and the flat black is awesome looking!!! It seems to fi my oval shaped head much better than the Tourist! I would purchase again!!

Great helmet at an awesome price and still Made in Japan.
This is a great helmet, great features at a great price and free shipping this was a no brainer. This is my second OGK/Kabuto helmet and it's just great. I love that they make great helmets at a very reasonable price. Still Made in Japan, but not for Arai/Shoei prices. Build quality is amazing!

The Avand II, is a great open 3/4 helmet: it's light, has very good vents, and is pretty quiet when on the road. I just love the micro ratchet closing system, which makes putting on or taking off the helmet a breeze. No more double D rings to fidget with, especially with gloves.

Great visibility, clear shield and the ability to put the pinlock tint inside as well. Super light weight, almost feels like your not wearing a helmet. And the venting is very good, four to choose from.

My only complaint is the closeness of the shield to my nose, which makes it fog up. I wish there was just a bit more space, but it only really fogs up when I'm not moving, Otherwise, the vents are good enough to keep the fogging to a minimum while moving.

I would buy helmet again, perhaps my wife needs one too? Great job Kabuto/OGK and Revzilla.
