K-Tech RCU Razor-R Rear Shock Yamaha FZ-09

The K-Tech Razor R Shock was developed specifically for the street rider who is looking to improve both riding comfort and handling of their motorcycle. The majority of factory shocks do not offer a wide enough range of adjustment to suit every rider’s needs. Whether that is spirited canyon carving, cross-country touring or commuting, a factory shock may not make the cut. This is where the Razor R Shock comes into it’s own. It features four adjustable settings: compression, rebound, spring preload and shock length. Unlock the hidden potential of your motorcycle with the K Tech Razor R Shock!

The K-Tech RCU Razor-R Rear Shocks are available in multiple weight options to best match your riding needs. Your total weight must include your combined rider weight with all gear.

Makes the FZ-09 a Cornering Monster
I installed this in my 2016 FZ-09 after getting tired of the harshness from fast bumps and the complete lack of rebound damping, even when cranked to max (though really it just made things harsh).

You can install this if you have a rear stand and a pair of jackstands.
I installed this by flipping the right foot peg and the left passenger footpeg (because the left main footpeg can't be flipped), then placing them on jackstands. This allows the rear wheel to be just above the ground. All it takes then is the removal of the two bolts that hold the shock in, put in the new shock, and you're done! Took me about an hour to figure this out, but if I have to do this again it will take about 20 minutes.

I bought the "soft" option, and I'm 150 lbs loaded with gear. I'm glad I went with the soft option, as it's already quite a bit higher spring rate than stock. Preload set to ~20% of full is best for me. I think they did choose the correct spring rates (better to go a tiny bit too stiff than a tiny bit too soft).

Rebound and compression damping adjustability is HUGE. I can go from moderately floppy to stiff-as-stone on both dials, both of which are hand-adjustable. Ride height and preload are both moderately easy. You can go a little bit higher, and a lot lower on the FZ-09, though I don't recommend lowering at all - lower only the front for better cornering stability.

The FZ-09's forks can be helped a bit by putting in really thick fluid on the right fork, but the only way to fix the rear (which is where it needs it the most) is by getting a new rear shock.
