Reviews & Questions
I would still rather have a bracket that mounts up by the speedo if Joker Machine make one.
Easy to install
Mounts too close to the flange of the fuel tank.
This bracket was really easy to install and the location looks really natural. I also like that this bracket only reveals the cylindrical section of the ignition switch and not the whole switch like some other ignition switch relocation brackets for the Bonneville.
The only problem I have is that the mounting location is too close to the tank. After the initial installation there didn't seem to be a problem but then I started hearing the tank making noises when I would hit bumps. I figured out that the tank was hitting the relocation bracket. I did a quick forum check and the opinion is that the brackets were originally designed for the carbureted bikes and that it's not just one manufacturer of the ignition relocation brackets that has this problem.
I like the look of the bracket and I will be replacing the headlight brackets so I need to relocate the ignition switch. I'll have to figure out a good workaround.
2013 Triumph Bonneville, mag wheel
The bad: look at the pictures above. See how close it comes to the tank? Once mine was installed, it had a little wiggle room, but ultimately no matter where I held it when tightening down, it always ended up a hair's width from the tank. Road vibration caused the tank to vibrate strongly against it at certain speeds. I could feel it and thought I had a bad front wheel bearing. It took me forever to figure out. Now my paint is chipped where this bracket hit the tank.
I'm guessing this was designed for pre-EFI bikes with smaller tanks and because it fits when installed, no mention was made of compatibility issues. All it would take is a little machining, or a change in the shape of the bracket, or a rubber pad for the tank side, and everything would be just fine. It's too late for me, but if you want to buy this anyway, make sure there is generous clearance before you go for a ride. But please don't return parts you've fitted to your bike because they didn't work! You were warned!
The better solution if you haven't already committed to something else would be to get a gauge bracket with ignition switch hole. But I haven't tried that option.
