did its primary job
I recently hit a big 6' wallaby at about 80kph/50mph on my BMW G650GS and thanks to my jacket, my upper body didn't get torn up and barely got road rash. I only had the armored mesh layer on over a not tucked in light t-shirt.

It stayed in place mostly as I skidded across the pavement mostly left side belly down- I do remember checking to make sure it was down at the waist, it was - and only sustained minor to moderate damage. Nothing gave way, all armor stayed secure and pretty much in place. Left elbow, arm that took all the blunt force, did ride up slighly but my skin was only slighlty scuffed.

I believe the jacket could come through a slightly faster crash and certainly with the outer layer you'd be even better off against road rash.

It's likely I'll shortlist this jacket when I'm healed enough to ride again (no jacket guards against broken bones!) as I loved the comfort, versatility and, yes, style. But the most important thing for me is protection - and this jacket did its job for me. I could have easily kept wearing this same jacket after the crash but the medical team had to cut it off :(

awesome concept, interesting fit.
I just ordered the alter ego 3.0 to go along with my new motorcycle I purchased last week. I bought a 2011 suzuki gsxr- 750. I was looking for a versatile jacket for both the hot summers in Texas and the cooler winters, though mainly for the spring, summer, and fall. This jacket looked to be exactly what I wanted! My husband had a jacket similar to this one and I loved that he could tear off an outer layer and have a cool mesh jacket, so I was determined to find one for the ladies.

I love the way the jacket comes apart into 2 jackets, as opposed to a puzzle of fabric and zippers like my husbands does. Also the outer jacket folds up into a pouch that is just small enough to fit in the undertail of my bike. It seems pretty warm, though I haven't been able to get out on the bike yet, I've just been wearing it around my house and yard in debate on whether to keep it or return it.

Here's why I have had some debate, the fit is weird. The under jacket fits great, exceptional without the spine protection, but still a pretty great fit in the shoulders, neck, and arms. However, zip on the outer layer and the whole thing gets longer and not just longer but the shoulders of the jacket actually sit like an inch off my shoulders. This causes the collar of the jacket to go all the way to my chin and I feel like I am suffocating. I have to leave it unzipped like halfway for it to be comfortable, so that's a problem because its not giving maximum protection. The whole shoulders and chest area are a bit large on me.

I am 5'3" and 115 pounds, based on my measurements 32-26-32 I ordered a small to ensure I could fit an extra hoodie or fleece under the jacket if I needed too.

Overall I am pretty happy with it and since my winters are so short I don't think the outer layer will really be a problem and I will probably just see if it needs some breaking in time to let the fabric settle.

Don't Believe The Waterproof!
Pros:

My wife ordered this jacket and we both love the style and versatility. Great on very warm days and very good wind protection on cooler days.

The decision to design the riding protection into the middle layer is a great idea and works very well in this respect. When it is warm, take off the outer later. When it turns windy or chilly, just throw on the outer layer and you are set - there is no taking off the outer layer, zipping or snapping in the middle layer, before you are finally off again. This jacket is quick and easy to adapt to changes in the weather.

She has yet to get the jacket into colder temps (below 10C), but believes it will work with her into Fall and early Winter.

The styling is simply great. My wife is 5'7", 125lbs, and petite. Work with the sizing chart and you should be fine. She simply looks sexy in this jacket...well, all the time, but you know what I mean. The jacket is very European in styling and she wears it well.

Cons:

Now for the bad/disappointing report: THIS JACKET IS NOT WATERPROOF AT ALL! We just had a 30-minute ride in a very strong downpour yesterday. The jacket had her wet within 5 minutes. The complete arm (both) was soaked through. The body was also seeping in very quickly. Sorry, Joe Rocket, but you really missed the testing of this jacket in the rain. It failed miserably.

Consolation:

That said, if you really like the styling of this jacket - to which we can attest - and you only require warmth, good airflow, and good wind protection, then this jacket is a safe bet. Instead of returning the jacket for a better rain protection and, thus, sacrificing style, my wife decided that she would use another outer rain jacket above the riding protection mesh middle layer (again, a great idea). This way she gets the great styling of the jacket for walking around town when rain protection isn't needed, the great airflow of the middle later, good wind protection of the outer layer, and a warm vest addition for colder days. When it rains, she just leaves off the outer layer and wears a true rain jacket over it all. This way she also can change her look using the rest of her rain wardrobe without worrying about protection, which is underneath it all.

If you want rain protection, do not buy this jacket. If you are amiable to working with the jacket because of protection and style - and just need wind protection in the outer layer, go for it!

This jacket is absolutely awesome!
I love this jacket. I bought it while the weather was still hot so the inner mesh portion with armor was perfect by itself. I got so much airflow I barely felt like I was wearing a jacket. I now have the vest liner zipped in and I'm still just wearing the inner jacket. Perfect for the beginning of fall. I love the look of the inner jacket and the outer jacket. The fit is great too. I am 5'6" 129 lbs and the small fits me perfectly. The extra small was a little tight. The cool thing is I can also wear the inner jacket under my leather jacket for a different look and still have all the armor protection. I highly recommend this jacket.

I love it!
This is the first real riding jacket I have bought and I absolutely love it. I have only worn the mesh as I live in the desert and the airflow is great. I was unsure of what size to get and ended up getting a medium. I have a pear shape, am about 5'4" with a 32 in waist. The great thing about the jacket is that is has zippers to make the waist bigger, so if you are pear shape, this is very helpful.

Excellent value
I wanted a 4-season jacket that was in a girly color other than pink or stark white with flowers. This jacket hit all the marks and then some as I've worn it through all 4-seasons (temps low 30s through 100+) and am very happy with it.

Sufficient number of pockets, 4 configurable layers for different temperatures, cinches and other adjustment features for a secure yet stylish fit.

Have not had issues staying dry in heavy rain, IF I take time to stop and zip up all properly. I did forget I had the vents open once, soaked to the bone. Plus the outer layer does take a long time to dry, but when properly zipped no water seepage.

My only complaints are mostly superficial: the self-storage pouch is a waste of material as the jacket doesn't fit into it, not enough reflective piping or material, the mesh jacket pockets are mesh so be careful when putting keys in them, the fit at the waist is huge but small at the hips, my hubby's jacket has an inner clip for his keys mine does not.

Awesome jacket
Have been wearing this jacket for about a month and a half. Have used all parts of the jacket together and have broken them down individually according to the winter here in Florida, which ranges from highs in the 80's to lows in 50's during the day. Love the mesh jacket with the liner for most days and the outer shell for colder days. Fits great, only 1 minor complaint that the sleeves were a little long. Not enough to cause any real problems though.

Why cant you find womens' jackets like this in stores?
This is a great jacket. I got it for my girlfriend who is an occasional passenger on my Tenere. I wanted something that would protect her and offer three season comfort. She is very style conscious and while agreeing with the protection / comfort approach also wanted something that would look good.
This jacket does all that. The design - with the mesh inner jacket holding all the armor - is brilliant. We got the black and purple. Both the mesh jacket and the outer jacket look fantastic, and the customizable fit highlights her highlights.
I saw the reviews saying the rain protection isn't what it could be. I can't comment on that - I don't plan to bring her along if it's raining.
We checked several brick and mortar stores in the area - no women's jacket anyone had in store was close to the features, look, and fit of this jacket.

Great Jacket
I purchased the men's Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket last year and absolutely love it. I live in SW Florida and wear the mesh even past 90 degrees. This past Christmas I bought the ladies version for my wife. It was a tad too small so I returned it with no hassle. They sent the larger size and she loves it. Thanks Revzilla.

Great Air Flow
I purchased this jacket as a beginner rider. I like that this jacket has 3 layers; a thermal, a mesh jacket, and the outer shell.

I've ridden in mid-50's temperatures with all of the layers and it kept me warm and comfortable. I've also ridden in 70-80's range with just the mesh and the air flow is great. I have yet to test out the waterproof feature, but other reviews hint that that feature isn't done well.

Love the versatility and I recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a nice looking jacket that will also protect you if you go down.
