Icon Variant Raiden Carbon Helmet

Taking the already stellar Variant to a new level of ADV madness, the Icon Variant Raiden Carbon Helmet serves up lightweight performance due to a carbon fiber / kevlar / spectra shell. Features such as the 3D molded shield, unlike the drape-molded shield of many others, this one provides the utmost in optical clarity across its oversize eyeport. Accented with the Raiden livery, the Icon Variant is the crowning glory of any ADV rider’s kit.

Features:

  • Carbon Fiber/Kevlar/Spectra shell construction
  • Wind tunnel tested and refined
  • Anti-lift visor to reduce glare
  • Multiple oversized intake and exhaust ports
  • Molded EPS nose reduces shield fogging
  • Quick-change fog-free shield
  • Fully removable/washable Hydradry interior
  • Rear spoiler for reduced helmet buffeting
  • Removable chin curtain
  • Long oval headform
  • All world standard, meets or exceeds the following: DOT FMVSS 218 (US), ECE 22-05 (EUROPE), SAI AS1698 (Australia) and SG (Japan) safety and testing standards. Does not ship with SAI or SG certification stickers unless purchased from an authorized dealer in that country

Note: Helmet ships with both Clear and Dark Smoke face shields.

Great looking, great feeling, super light helmet
I've always purchased medium to lower quality helmets, but after buying really nice safety gear (jacket/pants/boots/gloves), I wanted to update/upgrade my helmet.

I bought the Raiden Carbon in Large. (last helmet was an HJC FG-17 in Large)

The size was right on, I have a rounder shaped head and this helmet still fit me well. No pressure points anywhere, a tiny bit of wigggle room near the brow, but I believe thats more due to my round headshape.

The noise is average, with the visor up, visor down it is nice and quiet until the 70mph mark, 50-60mph or under and it is nice and quiet.

I got the full carbon version which feels like a feather compared to my HJC, super super light.

The vision is amazing, I've never had this much peripheral vision in all my previous HJCs or my father's Arai.

The raiden version also comes with a tinted visor which is a huge improvement.

The helmet fits a SENA headset no problem.

The 2 things worth mentioning that everyone wants to know:

Yes the helmet peak does catch some wind. BUT, much less than anticipated. Doing upwards of ~100mph on my sport touring bike it felt great, I even looked up to test it, and although it did pull a bit, it didn't rip my neck back. At normal cruising speeds of 70mph or under there is no drag. When you look side to side to check your blind spot there is again a small amount of drag, If you look down and to the side instead of Over the shoulder there is NO drag.

2nd, the visors are NOT the easiest to change over, which is a good and a bad thing, they are heavily secure, and do require a screw driver to change, but that to me is more of a high quality thing. There is no way they are breaking or coming unclipped on 1 side by accident.

I mainly do sporty riding in the twisties, and some trial riding and this helmet fits the bill. Its light, comfortable, has great vision, and looks B.A.

Oh Variant... Oh I love thee!
Carbon Variant... Seriously is there anything more sexy in a motorcycle helmet?!

The Carbon Spring series looks great. The coloring is vibrant and the fit is the same as every variant. They didn't change anything from an already amazing helmet. Again, they can be loud at higher rpms/speed but most helmets will. If you are new to the Variant design, you will feel some pull if you are high speed and sitting straight up. Just tuck in a bit and you will feel right at home.

The helmet fits great, i wear a XL in all ICON helmets, and i still do. The changing of the visor hasn't changed, and the faceshields are the patented ICON changing. It is great to see a company that hasn't changed it's design and continues to excel!

Love it.
Love this helmet. Great style. Quite. Well vented. Came with 2 shields. Light weight. The cheek pads are a little tight but still needs to be broken in. Thinking about buying the Airframe Pro in carbon fiber.

Hi Revzilla! I am wondering what the shell sizes are on the Icon variant helmets. I have tried on a Large and a Medium, and it seems like either one would work- Medium is quite tight however, so was wondering if the fit could be customized at all using different cheek pads? Or are the shell sizes just too different between M / L?

I read a few articles that claim only 2 shell sizes, and then some more that claim 3 shell sizes... Which is it?

Thanks!

Is the visor removable?
A C on Jun 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No. The top visor is an integral part of the protection.

Flip up face shields are, and available in different coatings and colors. And they can be left up if you are wearing glasses.
Hey revzilla is that red or orange strip in the helmet? Hard to tell
Calvin G on Mar 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Super interested in this helmet but only if I can throw on a pair of goggles if needed. Anyone know if the opening is big enough for a set of goggles?
Regarding the icon VARIANT RAIDEN CARBON helmet, the orange color on the video appears be more yellow/orange and the "photo" orange appears to be orange/red. Which color is it? I prefer the orange/red or "orange flame". Thanks
A shopper on Apr 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Looks more like orange red. Close to the KTM color.
