Icon Alliance GT Honcho Helmet

Whether you're running with the bulls, the matador slaying it, or the rodeo.....clown, showcase your inner madman with the Icon Alliance GT Honcho Helmet. Delivering the best graphics in the biz, Icon's Honcho serves up South Western vibes to showcase your moto madness.

The Alliance GT adds a little bit of Top Gun to the classic Icon Alliance Helmet. Anyone who rides every day is familiar with the two-shield two-step. A dark shield to block the glaring sun of the morning commute is swapped out for clear shield on the way back. The Alliance GT kills this do-si-do with one fell swoop; rather one swipe to drop down a tinted inner sun shield. Beyond this clear (tinted) upgrade, the Alliance GT features all of the perks of the proven Alliance ranging from great ventilation coupled with a moisture wicking interior lining to a DOT / ECE safety rating.

Note: The Alliance GT has a fairly narrow internal shape. It is best for people who need more forehead room but conversely it is less suitable for people who need more room in the ear and temple area.

Features:

  • Injection molded polycarbonate shell for strength and durability
  • Includes Silver RST interchangeable internal DropShield
  • Wind tunnel tested and refined
  • Molded twin channel supervent for increased cooling
  • Rear exhaust ports prevent heat buildup
  • Removable molded breath deflector reduces shield fogging
  • Chin venting system reduces shield fogging
  • Fully removable/washable HydraDry interior
  • Quick-change fog-free Proshield with side plates
  • Prolock face shield locking system
  • Long oval headform
  • All world standard, meets or exceeds the following: DOT FMVSS 218 (US), ECE 22-05 (EUROPE), SAI AS1698 (Australia) and SG (Japan) safety and testing standards. Does not ship with SAI or SG certification stickers unless purchased from an authorized dealer in that country

High Value
A bit about my background; I've owned a Shoei RF1100, various Speed & Strength helmets, an Icon Airmada, and a Lazer Kite helmet. So my view of average may be different from yours.

Comfort & Fit:
I typically wear mediums in most helmets and small in Arai and SS1300. For the Alliance GT, medium fit perfectly whereas small was very uncomfortable. My headshape is intermediate oval. In terms of overall fit, the SS1300 is still the most comfortable in overall shape and fit, but the Icon Alliance GT is a very close 2nd. I'm still breaking it in, so it's slightly tight, but I can tell it'll get better over time. The liner is top notch, probably the smoothest I've worn. Plenty of padding inside that's slightly firmer than my previous helmets. Definitely fits my head better than the Airmada. The Airmada in medium constantly felt like it was squeezing my temple together, but I did not have an issue with the Alliance GT.

Design:
Great looking helmet, the finish reminded me of my Shoei RF-1100. All of the locks and levers were solid, easy to access even with gloves on. My only perceived downside was the locking pin on the visor. It works as intended to keep the visor shut, but takes a bit of effort to get it open. I had this issue on the Airmada, but it get's a bit easier over time.

Noise Level:
Noticeably quieter than the Airmada, but I'd say just as loud as any other helmet I've worn. Relatively loud on the freeway, but every helmet I've worn was like that. I can hear people clearly when chatting on the Sena on the freeway, which I couldn't do with the Airmada.

Weight:
This helmet feels a bit on the heavier side. Not too noticeable once you're wearing it, but compared to the Lazer Kite full carbon, it's noticeably heavier carrying it around.

Other notes:
The drop-down visor is amazing. I used to have to change out visors if I planned on riding at night, but didn't have to do it with the Alliance GT. The anti-fog coating works pretty well so far, but it hasn't dropped below 60, so it's difficult to really gauge. There are no cut-outs for speakers, but the padding is pretty thick and there’s no padding around the ear, so it’s a perfect spot for the speaker. I love that there’s no pressure on my ears wearing this helmet. I purchased a chin curtain and installation took a bit of effort. I couldn’t get it completely flush in the helmet, but it appears to work.

For around the $200 range, this has amazingly high value. A comfortable helmet that doesn't fog, built in drop down visor, and quality parts, you can't go wrong with this. Is it better than an Arai helmet, I'd say no, but the Arai isn't $300 better than this helmet. If you're looking for a high quality helmet at a lower price, this helmet is for you (if it properly fits your noggin).

Icon Honcho
This is my first helmet, riding my first bike. Love it. I don't have a Shoei to compare it against, or much experience outside of motocross helmets. But so far it has been great. Everyone comments on it, they think it looks awesome. My favorite feature is the flip down tinted visor inside.
Sunny or cloudy, I'm always ready to go and can see the road.
Airflow is a little lacking, on hot days it can get a little warm in those rhinos!
I'm used to it now, but the visor catch is pretty stiff, took me a bit to learn the best way to get it flipped up at lights or when I needed to get some more airflow.
All said and done, I would 100% buy another Icon helmet.

Would the Icon Proshield Face Shield work with this Helmet?
Doug M on Apr 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it will. I bought the smokes version to put into my Red and Black version and after I figured out the contraption, it fit right into place and still to this day!
Can you replace the innershield on this helmet? i like the mirrored one but the helmet i like comes with a black one. Thanks in advance!
