Icon Airflite Quicksilver Helmet

Don't be pigeonholed into a certain type of riding. You may not fit into a neat little riding category so rock a helmet that doesn't either. The Icon Airflite Helmet can attack corners on the weekends and battle against traffic on the weekdays. It doesn't matter if you're looking through ape hangers or gripping clip-ons. The Icon Air Flite Helmet doesn't care what you ride. It just wants to go fast and look threatening.

Its chin vent is functional to flow air and terrify a la a Hannibal Lecter face mask. Intake vents snort in so much fresh air that you can smell pedestrian's fear as you're rolling down the block. They will not jaywalk in front of you. A drop down internal sun visor allows you to manage the sun or go to incognito mode at the flip of a switch. The injection molded polycarbonate shell is strong to absorb energy and remain intact just in case you unintentionally headbutt something solid. Its Hydradry liner wicks moisture to keep your noggin dry and comfortable.

The Icon Airflite Helmet has functional features and an aggressive style that stands out. Chianti and fava beans not included.

Features:

  • Injection molded polycarbonate shell for strength
  • Multiple oversized intake and exhaust ports
  • Fog-free inner sun shield
  • Quick-change fog-free face shield
  • Removable side plates
  • Molded breath deflector
  • Chin curtain
  • Removable Hydradry moisture wicking liner
  • Recessed twin channel supervent cooling system
  • All world standard, meets or exceeds the following: DOT FMVSS 218 (US), ECE 22-05 (EUROPE), SAI AS1698 (AUSTRALIA) and SG (JAPAN) safety and testing standards. Does not ship with SAI OR SG Certification stickers unless purchased from an authorized dealer in that country

So I'm not going to waste my time or yours talking about the look of this helmet. If you're considering this helmet you obviously like how it looks. Instead, I'm going to talk about the fit, the highway noise level, and the mounting of a Bluetooth unit.

The fit:
It is very comprable to the airmada in terms of sizing. If you're a large in the airmada or Airframe Pro helmet, your best bet is a large with the airflite. It is a bit more narrow around the temples and cheek than either of those, not substantially though, and once broken in, it should conform nicely. After an all day ride with this helmet new out of the box, I didnt feel any pressure or discomfort.

Noise:
I wore foam earplugs with this helmet which made the wind noise a total non-issue. I did find that this helmet was about as loud as an Airmada when riding with the helmet in an upright position on the highway. It seemed to get quieter when in 1/4 tuck. For me it was loudest in an agressive full tuck position, as air pushes into the gaps at the top of the faceshield and the side plates. YMMV. At no point did I feel like the noise levels were unacceptable. I did notice that high speed head checks with this helmet were met with much less wind resistance than what you get with the Airmada Airframe Pro, or the Alliance.

Bluetooth:
I successfully mounted a Sena unit and can confirm that you do NOT have to trim anything to mount a Bluetooth coms unit IF you use a sticky mount and you just need to run the wires under and behind the left cheek pad. That said, its almost impossible to mount a clamp-style unit without serious alterations to the helmet's trim. The cheekpad trim is a very different design from any previous Icon helmet. Watch this part of Anthony's breakdown video carefully and you'll see why.

Overall, I would say the only dealbreaker for this helmet would possibly be your specific Bluetooth unit's mounting requirements. Otherwise this helmet is on par with other recent Icon helmet designs in terms of comfort and performance.

Amazing Quality, Looks and Construction for the price.
I own 2 Airmada's and comfort and fit are identical with the AIRFLITE. Can't wait till the RST Silver Shield is back in Stock. At this price point you get a great value for your $$$.

Aggressive and high quality!
This is my first nice helmet, coming from a basic Bilt helmet that I got just in case I crashed while I was learning to ride. Since that never happened, I had my eye on the Airframe pro. My Buell isn't really a crotch rocket and it's not an upright cruiser either, so the tucked position never really made sense.

I got this helmet as soon as I could because not only do you get the drop down inner shield, but you get the full front visor that has some cool styling and a nice big vent. I hated wearing sunglasses during my ride, and this fixes that!

The only "complaint" I have is that the quicksilver finish looks like they took sandpaper over all the edges and scratched it up and clear coated over it. It's smooth, but when I got it out of the box I was like, oh... It's not really artsy, just scratched.. oh well.

Overall, you can't go wrong for the price. It just feels like it's high quality, the visor is smooth and clicks into place.. No worries about it flying up during a fast ride. Everything is accessible with gloves, and it just feels right on my head. It's pretty light too!

The only reason I say it's a little small is the cheek pad hurts my jaw on the left, and the measurements fit the small-medium size. So I will keep riding in it and the pad will probably break in.

Amazing
I went from my DS helmet to this and I love it. It literally feels like my head is in a car. Pretty quiet with zero fog. High speed head turns are effortless. Great vision even with the RST Blue shield. I’m not a fan of the internal visor but it still came in handy when it got super bright. This helmet is by far the best looking helmet when paired with a reflective face shield than any other helmet. Don’t think just buy.

BEST ANSWER: Yes you can
How quiet is it?
Eric P on Mar 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I've only ever had one other helmet. A Castle Atom modular. It's quieter and louder at the same time? Way more wind noise, almost too much. But with a straight pipe R6 the exhaust note is quieter in the Airflite than in the Atom.
I think it's those visor clips on the side that cause so much wind noise.
How many shell sizes are there and what are the size ranges?
