Icon Hoodlux Soft Shell Hoody

More than just a hoody, the Icon 1000 Hoodlux Jacket is an anomaly. Splitting the difference between casual hoody and riding jacket, the Hoodlux has a wind-resistant construction and a modified raglan fit, neatly assembled with stretch-woven 330-gram soft shell fabric. The fabric is expertly bonded to a fleece interior for added warmth and protection from the elements and the elbows are reinforced with a washable synthetic overlay. When worn in concert with an Associate vest or a Field Armor Stryker rig, the Hoodlux is tactical cover in a world of exposure.

Features:

  • Modified raglan fit with drop tail and pit zips
  • Stretch woven 330 gram softshell fabric bonded to polar fleece interior
  • PU synthetic leather elbow patches
  • Washable
  • Applique’d embroidered felt shoulder patches
  • Waist cinch strap with locking one handed adjusters
  • Snorkel hood with low profile auto locking adjusters
  • Icon ergo zipper puller on front zip and molded cord keepers on others

Best jacket I have ever purchased.
I bought this jacket last fall to wear for the season. As it turns out we had one of the worst Chicago winters in decades, snow and cold. I lived in this jaclet from 60 to -10 degrees (with a sweatshirt hoodie under.) It is honestly the most versatile jacket I have ever bought, and I am a jacket guy. I own as many jackets as I own shirts.

Ohh yeah, it is great in the bikes as well. It doesn't really have any protection though.

Excellent Cool Weather Gear
Riding in the high desert on a 50 degree morning is hella comfortable in this hoody, and opening the under arm vets provides enough air flow for riding home on an 80+ degree afternoon.
Fleece lining is very warm , and wind proof exterior is top notch. The long arms are great and dont ride up exposing skin to the cool air.
Under arm zippers are great for air flow and dont make the jacket catch wind and balloon up like many front vented jackets.
Front zipper zips up a little to high for my taste but is still comfortable.
Hood catches a lot of wind and can pull the jacket a bit. I normally tuck the hood inside the jacket or tuck it under my required ICON MIL-SPEC Safety vest, to keep it from catching wind.
Overall this is an excellent product and great value. It's a daily wear for me! High Recommended!

Nice looking hoodie
I never really bought this to ride in, I bought it as a jumper. It has great attention to detail, and compared to Australian surf shop stuff, isn't exactly expensive.

You do have to buy a size smaller, I am a large and bought a medium, and can wear the striker armour underneath without anyone being the wiser, haven't actually ridden with that setup though.

Very happy so far
Great jacket so far. Comfortable and very happy with the purchase. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want a full on motorcycle jacket. Some protection and looks good with everyday clothes.

A jacket for my jacket?
Needed something to block the wind while riding. Didn't wanna invest another $300- $400 in a riding jacket, so I found this. Very comfortable. I wear it while not riding. Fits a bit large, which is great as I wear this over my Icon hypersport prime jacket. Material is top notch. The fleece interior is so damn comfortable.

Nice Hooded Jacket, perfect mid-layer
This jacket is comfortable, and nice looking, it replaces a Target brand Champion sweatshirt I wore as a mid-layer and the wind came right thru.
I wear this under my ICON TiMax.
I'm 6'2" 200lbs and the Medium fits me perfectly. Not baggy like a sweatshirt might be.
Sleeve length is just short of my knuckles, torso length is 2 inches below the belt.
Some other measurements for reference, I wear a large t-shirt, all of my ICON outer layers jackets are XL.
Exactly what I was looking for, for fall/winter/spring riding.
The hood is snug, not baggy, which is good because on cold mornings I throw the hood up and then helmet on. No cold air down the back of the neck.
I've worn it under my TiMax down to 40 degrees, at this point it was getting cold, luckily I only had 2 miles to go. Wind blocking is way better than what I had before.
Going home at ~70degrees it's still comfortable, not hot.
I know this might sound weird, but the sleeve feel really nice against the skin. I guess I don't own or wear fleece that often.
Acouple things about this jacket, I'd say that the video makes this jacket look like a big baggy thick sweatshirt, it is not. The video also makes the elbow patches look a bit, dare i say, gaudy. They are actually barely noticeable.
#1 negative: no zipper garage, when fully zipped, which is how I protect my neck from the cold wind of course, in a 2 mile ride my neck was getting sore. Typically I tie a handkerchief, the one time I rode without it to test this jackets level of comfort and wind protect, my neck paid the price.
#1 suggestion for Icon would be some kind of velcro adjusters on the sleeve ends, for individual customization and stopping the wind from going up the sleeve, which I haven't experienced with this jackets actually but given the right conditions I suspect it will be a weak point in coverage; minor issue though as the sleeves has a decent tapper towards the wrist already.
I have my concerns about the longevity of this jacket, I intend on using the heck out of it. It is the first motorcycle type jacket that I've bought brand new. Everything else I own came off Craigslist. As mentioned by another writer the zipper seems dainty, but I can't fault it yet.
Safe riding folks. Hopefully the more info the better, I live and die by the Revzilla product reviews.

It does fit big
That is the only complaint but it was my fault I didn't read reviews before I bought the hoody. I do have room to grow but it still fits better than I expected after reading the reviews. It is very comfortable and is warm on a 40deg day! I love all of my icon product so far!

A big fall jacket that looks like a hoody
I got this in a small. Most of my shirts are mediums, some are small. This was huge on me. It's really just a hoody with leather-like elbow patches. It's made of a wind-proof soft nylony kind of fabric, kind of like some north face jackets. It's nice, but even with the stryker vest, it's really not much protection, might as well wear a normal hoody.

Expected More
I bought this to wear under my Roland Sands Ronin jacket to extend the season of my jacket.

This hoodie is really good for above 50 degrees. While it is windproof, the insulation is very lacking. My expectations may have been too high but I was thinking it would be as warm as a windproof Patagonia jacket, especially at this price.

If you're intending to use this for warmth, I would look elsewhere.

Does this jacket have pockets to put armor?
A shopper on Sep 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No. It's fleece lined, there are NO pockets, mesh, velcro, or otherwise for armor installation.
Does this jacket have pockets for armor?
Logan D on Sep 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, it is not a riding jacket. Nice jacket but not capable of armor/armour.
