Welcome to the detailed breakdown of the Icon 1000 Forestall Glove available at RevZilla.com.
All murdered out, Icon 1000, this is the new Forestall. I like it when they do that; I like it even better when Icon 1000 makes a product that is going to be a good product that comes in several hundred bucks.
If you're looking at it, we’re black only. We're short cuff, leather and stretch textile using that Icon 1000. Really, it's going to be that soft-shell material. If we're looking at it though it's going to be that 2 season hot weather glove: spring or summer, early fall, it's going to cover you. It's very, very basic. If you're checking out something like the Anthem in the Icon line, don't buy an Anthem: It's a cheap glove. Spend $50 bucks, come up to something that's going to have a leather palm, and battle-hide goat skin. It's going to have D30 protection across the knuckles and it's going to carry a different level of style, especially if you're blacked out.
Now, if you want a more functional glove with more protection, they do make their Pursuit, which is all leather. It's going to be a couple of more dollars. In my opinion, it's the more protective glove. I want to frame it out for you where it lives in that Icon line. Now, quick note on fitment: On the forestall, which is built to meet or match tat Forestall jacket as well, it has that military inspiration. I'm wearing a size extra large. They sent me an extra large to wear: It's not my size. I'm a size large. This is going to fit just the same as the normal Icon fit scheme. I'm a large in American cut gloves. Icon, first gear, I'm an XL. In Alpine Stars, Dianese, which are more European cut, keep that in mind: No surprises here: Icon has the American cut dialed in. There's a little bit of flexibility here with this accordion stretch panel too, depending on the width of the inside of your hand and your fingers.
Now, we dive into some of the nuance. It's all about the creature comforts and style elements you expect from Icon 1000. So, you have the stamped metallic Icon 100 logo on the back of the hand. You have some of that goat skin that comes through; that battle hide goat skin. Moving to the knuckle: D30 armor, we talked about it. It's molecular, it's used in a ton of Icon products. Upon impact, it disperses the energy. The crystalline lattice structure becomes rigid. Again, molecular armor is not your basic TPU. Do your research: That's a nice upgrade, especially for $50.
Now, one of the most polarizing features on this glove is also the most stylish for me personally. The webbing is military style webbing. I think it looks cool. It adds an additional touch, adds an additional layer, adds some abrasion resistance. What I don't like about it is this glove without it would be a 10 out of 10 on comfort; with it, it's about a 7 and a half out of ten. you feel some of that extra stitching on the inside of the fingers. Again, it's a $50 glove: Not the end of the world. There's a bang for the buck factor here. Just know what you're getting into. If you can't stand feeling a single stitch in your fingers, this might not be the glove for you. just calling that out.
I like how they wrap the leather up around the fingers. If we move it to our side, we already talked about our elasticated panel and you'll notice there's a nice little break here on the knuckle of the thumb and you still have that battle-skin goat hide that's coming across the thumb as well.
Moving in to my palm. I wish there was a little bit of reinforcement, but for at this price again, I'll make the sacrifice. It's the diamond-etched battle-hide goat skin from Icon. And remember: They're using goat skin versus cow because it offers the same amount of abrasion resistance, but offers a little bit more tactile response. I also like that they gave you a little bit of TemperFoam landing protection. And If we look micro-velvet in the cuff: No strings attached there, just basic.
You can wear this in any type of riding; sports bike, cruiser, if you're cafe on a naked bike, again, it's a rock solid, blacked-out glove for 2 to 3 season hot or warm season riding. Remember, in the Icon line, it's one of their more entry level gloves.
